Abstract
An efficient Ru(II)-catalyzed C-H activation-based spiroannulation of benzoxazines with the easily available benzoquinone and N-sulfonyl quinone monoimine has been realized, providing a straightforward strategy to access NH-containing spiropyrans in moderate to good yields with good functional group compatibility. The procedure features atom- and step-economy, mild conditions, and excellent chemoselectivity. Moreover, a catalytically competent five-membered cycloruthenated complex has been isolated.

Abstract
A mild and efficient protocol for the synthesis of p-quinols under aqueous conditions was developed. The pivotal role of additives in the copper-catalyzed addition of aryl boronic and heteroaryl boronic acids to benzoquinones was observed. It was found that polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was the most efficient additive used for the studied reaction. The noteworthy advantages of this procedure include its broad substrate scope, high yields up to 91%, atom economy, and usage of readily available starting materials. Another benefit of this method is the reusability of the catalytic system up to four times. Further, the obtained p-quinols were characterized on the basis of their antimicrobial activities against E. coli. Antimicrobial activity was further compared with the corresponding 4-benzoquinones and 4-hydroquinones. Among tested compounds, seven derivatives showed an antimicrobial activity profile similar to that observed for commonly used antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin, bleomycin, and cloxacillin. In addition, the obtained p-quinols constitute a suitable platform for further modifications, allowing for a convenient change in their biological activity profile.

Abstract
An efficient synthesis of aryl-substituted quinones via Pd(II)-catalyzed C-H functionalization of less expensive and abundant benzoquinones with aryl acetamides is demonstrated. An auxiliary ligand N,N-bidentate-directing group 8-aminoquinoline plays a crucial role in the success of the reaction. A broad range of substituted phenyl acetamides including commercially available drug molecules were examined and also found to be highly compatible with quinones. The aryl-substituted quinones were also easily converted into aryl-substituted hydroquinone derivatives. A plausible reaction mechanism was proposed to account for the selective distal C-H bond functionalization.

Abstract
An atom-economical approach for the synthesis of arylquinones was achieved successfully via direct oxidative C–C dehydrogenative coupling reaction of quinones/hydroquinones with electron-rich arenes using an inexpensive Fe–I2–(NH4)2S2O8 system. The efficiency of this catalytic approach was established with a broad scope of substrates involving quinones and hydroquinones to give high yields (60–89%) of several arylated quinones. The present protocol is simple, practical, and shows good functional group tolerance. The synthesis of arylquinones was achieved via direct oxidative C–H/C–H cross-coupling of quinones/hydroquinones with electron-rich arenes using Fe–I2–(NH4)2S2O8 system involving quinones/hydroquinones to give high yields (60–89%) of arylquinones.![]()

Abstract
We report the hypoiodite-catalyzed oxidative C-C homocoupling of arenols to biarenols or biquinones using aqueous hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant. In addition, by combining hypoiodite catalysis and lipophilic Lewis acid-assisted Brønsted acid catalysis under aqueous conditions, we achieved a tandem oxidation/cross-coupling reaction of hydroquinones with electron-rich arenes. These results highlight the substantial scope of hypoiodite/acid co-catalysis for use in oxidative coupling reactions.

Abstract
Metal-catalysed C-H functionalization has emerged as a powerful platform for the derivatization of quinones, a class of compounds with wide-ranging applications. This review organises and discusses the evolution of this chemistry from early Fujiwara-Moritani reactions, through to modern directing-group assisted C-H functionalization processes, including C-H functionalization reactions directed by the quinone ring itself. Mechanistic details of these reactions are provided to afford insight into how the unique reactivity of quinoidal compounds has been leveraged in each example.

Abstract
An atom-economical and environmentally benign approach for the synthesis of indole-substituted 1,4-naphthoquinones from indoles and 1,4-naphthoquinones using readily available Lewis acidic B(C6F5)3 in water and with the recycling of water and part of the catalyst is reported. The reaction proceeded through the B(C6F5)3-catalyzed C(sp2)-H and C(sp2)-H bond coupling of 1,4-naphthoquinones with the C-3 position of indole derivatives in water. This methodology provides a facile protocol for the synthesis of some new indole-substituted 1,4-naphthoquinones in satisfactory yields and with a broad substrate scope. When compared to known methods for the synthesis of indole-substituted 1,4-naphthoquinones, this protocol is practical and efficient and does not require a transition-metal catalyst or toxic organic solvents. In addition, we utilized a simple filtration process for complete recycling of the solvent and the part of the catalyst in each reaction cycle.

Abstract
A metal free and highly regioselective oxidative arylation reaction of fluorophenols is described. The relative position of the fluoride leaving group (i.e., ortho or para) controls the 1,2 or 1,4 nature of the arylated quinone product, lending versatility and generality to this oxidative, defluorinative, arylation concept.

Abstract
An efficient, economic, and air-promoted metal-free method for direct arylation of benzoquinone with phenylhydrazines was developed. This approach leads to the formation of corresponding [1,1′-biphenyl]-2,5-dione derivatives as biological and pharmaceutical materials of interest in good yields, under mild reaction conditions, and at ambient temperature.

Abstract
A direct Pd-catalyzed C-H functionalization of benzoquinone (BQ) can be controlled to give either mono- or disubstituted BQ, including the installation of two different groups in a one-pot procedure. BQ can now be directly functionalized with aryl, heteroaryl, cycloalkyl, and cycloalkene groups and, moreover, the reaction is conducted in environmentally benign water or acetone as solvents.

Abstract
The room-temperature oxidative C–H/C–H cross-couplings between simple arenes and alkenes, coumarins or quinones have been reported by using a highly electrophilic palladium species [Pd(TFA)2] as the catalyst and cheap (NH4)2S2O8 as the oxidant under air.
