Abstract
Alkyl sulfonamides are an important class of bioactive molecules. Historical syntheses have relied on multistep sequences incorporating harsh reaction conditions. Photochemical methods have been limited to hydrosulfamoylation, installing only one substituent across an olefin. Herein, radical/polar crossover (RPC) is used to establish the first multicomponent 1,2-difunctionalization reaction incorporating a sulfonamide moiety and a second reaction partner. This protocol, exemplified on a range of olefins, utilizes various commercial sulfamoyl chlorides and organotrifluoroborates as coupling partners.

Abstract
A bisperfluorotoluyl-BINOL catalyzed conjugate addition of trifluoroborate salts to doubly vinylogous esters and aldol condensation synthesized chiral δ-substituted cyclohexenones with high yields and enantioselectivities (10 examples, up to 89% yield, 89-98% ee). Stepwise and single-pot sequences were developed, with the former also providing β-substituted masked ketoaldehydes containing a vinyl ether. The transformation was used in a four-step total synthesis of penienone (24% overall yield), ≤ half the steps as in previous syntheses.

Abstract
Alkene 1,2-dicarbofunctionalizations are highly sought-after transformations as they enable a rapid increase of molecular complexity in one synthetic step. Traditionally, these conjunctive couplings proceed through the intermediacy of alkylmetal species susceptible to deleterious pathways including β-hydride elimination and protodemetalation. Herein, an intermolecular 1,2-dicarbofunctionalization using alkyl N-(acyloxy)phthalimide redox-active esters as radical progenitors and organotrifluoroborates as carbon-centered nucleophiles is reported. This redox-neutral, multicomponent reaction is postulated to proceed through photochemical radical/polar crossover to afford a key carbocation species that undergoes subsequent trapping with organoboron nucleophiles to accomplish the carboallylation, carboalkenylation, carboalkynylation, and carboarylation of alkenes with regio- and chemoselective control. The mechanistic intricacies of this difunctionalization were elucidated through Stern-Volmer quenching studies, photochemical quantum yield measurements, and trapping experiments of radical and ionic intermediates.

Abstract
Organoboron compounds are essential reagents in modern C-C coupling reactions. Their synthesis via catalytic C-H borylation by main group elements is emerging as a powerful tool alternative to transition metal based catalysis. Herein, a straightforward metal-free synthesis of aryldifluoroboranes from BF3 and heteroarenes is reported. The reaction is assisted by sterically hindered amines and catalytic amounts of thioureas. According to computational studies the reaction proceeds via frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) mechanism. The obtained aryldifluoroboranes are further stabilized against destructive protodeborylation by converting them to the corresponding air stable tetramethylammonium organotrifluoroborates.

Abstract
The reaction mechanism of the isomerization of α and β-pinene epoxides with Fe species as catalysts was studied with density functional theory (DFT) calculations and an experimental methodology. β-pinene epoxide can be isomerized into myrtanal and myrtenol in four steps, while in the case of perillyl alcohol, two additional steps are necessary. On the other hand, high selectivity to myrtanal obtained experimentally can be explained by the number of steps and the kind of the hydrogen transference that is easier for this compound in comparison with myrtenol and perillyl alcohol. A thermodynamic analysis showed that transformation into myrtenol, myrtanal, and perillyl alcohol is spontaneous but transformation into myrtanal is the most favorable. In the case of α-pinene epoxide rearrangement, a mechanistic study was carried out toward the optimization of the possible intermediates. Synthesis of campholenic aldehyde and carveol from α-pinene epoxide was carried out through three steps after the coordination of oxygen to iron, showing that in contrast to carveol formation, campholenic aldehyde synthesis is spontaneous. Analysis of ∇2ρ, the total energy density (H = V + G), and the |V|/G ratio evaluated at the bond critical point of the Fe-O bond showed for both epoxides that such interaction is closed shell instead of covalent. Apparently, α-pinene epoxide can be isomerized faster that β-pinene epoxide with Fe3+, which is in agreement with previous experimental results. This is the first report where a reaction mechanism of isomerization of monoterpenes epoxides is studied based on very detailed experimental and computational methodologies.

Abstract
A Lewis acid-promoted highly regio- and diastereoselective C(sp3)-C(sp2) cross-coupling reaction between unprotected aryl-substituted 1,2-diols and styryl-, aryl-, heteroaryl-, and polyarylboronic acids has been developed in a one-pot procedure. The regioselective opening of aryl-substituted cyclic boronic esters promoted by a Lewis acid followed by subsequent intramolecular 1,4-transfer of the carbon ligand from boron to a resonance-stabilized benzylic carbenium ion minimizing the allylic 1,3-strain in a stereoselective fashion led to the corresponding α-substituted syn-phenylethyl alcohols. The synthetic utility of the method was illustrated by a short and efficient enantioselective synthesis of cherylline diethyl ether (-)-16.

Abstract
The repertoire of synthetic transformations of the products of the Achmatowicz rearrangement has been expanded by exploring their reactivity with potassium organotrifluoroborates in the absence of transition metals. Depending on the reaction conditions and the substitution pattern of the starting material, the reaction may lead to the stereoselective synthesis of dihydropyranones (2,6- trans), tetrahydropyranones (2,3- cis-2,6- cis) or functionalized 1,4-dicarbonyl compounds. The method has also been adapted for the one-pot synthesis of functionalized pyrroles.

Abstract
The direct trifluoromethylation of (hetero)arenes is a process of high importance to the pharmaceutical industry. Many reagents exist for this purpose and have found widespread use in discovery efforts; however, the step-intensive preparation of these reagents and their corresponding cost have resulted in minimal use of these methods in large-scale applications. For the ready transition of direct trifluoromethylation methodologies to large-scale application, the further development of processes utilizing inexpensive CF3 sources available on a metric ton scale is highly desirable. We report the use of pyridine N-oxide derivatives in concert with trifluoroacetic anhydride to promote a high-yielding and scalable trifluoromethylation reaction. Key mechanistic insights include the observation of electron donor-acceptor complexes in solution as well as a high dependence on photon flux. These observations have culminated in the application of this chemistry on a kilogram scale, demonstrating the utility of this reagent combination for preparative applications.
