Abstract
Given that adsorption is widely regarded as a favorable technique for hydrogen storage, it is appropriate to pursue the development of suitable adsorbent materials for industrial storage. This study aimed to assess the potential of Fe-doped carbon nanotubes (FeCNT) as a remarkable material for hydrogen storage. The structures of pure and Fe-doped CNTs were optimized based on quantum mechanical calculations using density functional theory (DFT) with the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof (PBE) method. To gain a comprehensive understanding of the adsorption behavior, Monte Carlo simulation was employed to investigate the adsorption of hydrogen molecules on FeCNT. The study specifically examined the impact of temperature, pressure, and hydrogen mole percentage on the adsorption capacity of FeCNT. The findings indicated that the uptake of hydrogen increased as the pressure increased, and when the pressure exceeded 5 MPa, FeCNT reached a state of near saturation. At room temperature and pressures of 1 and 5 MPa, the hydrogen capacities of FeCNT were determined to be 1.53 and 6.92 wt%, respectively. The radial distribution function diagrams confirmed the formation of a one-layer adsorption phase at pressures below 5 MPa. A comparison of the temperature dependence of hydrogen adsorption between FeCNT and pure CNT confirmed the effectiveness of Fe doping in hydrogen storage up to room temperature. FeCNT exhibited a greater reduction in initial hydrogen capacity at temperatures above room temperature. To evaluate the safety of the system, the use of N2 as a dilution agent was investigated by examining the hydrogen uptake of FeCNT from pure and H2/N2 mixtures at 300 K. The results showed that the addition of N2 to the environment had no significant effect on FeCNT hydrogen storage at pressures below 4 MPa. Furthermore, the study of H2 selectivity from the H2/N2 mixture indicated that FeCNT demonstrated a preference for adsorbing H2 over a wide range of bulk mole fractions at pressures of 4 and 5 MPa, suggesting that these pressures could be considered optimal. Under these conditions, Fe doping can offer an efficient and selective adsorption surface for hydrogen storage.

Abstract
Computational screening methods have changed the way new materials and processes are discovered and designed. For adsorption-based gas separations and carbon capture, recent efforts have been directed toward the development of multiscale and performance-based screening workflows where we can go from the atomistic structure of an adsorbent to its equilibrium and transport properties at different scales, and eventually to its separation performance at the process level. The objective of this work is to review the current status of this new approach, discuss its potential and impact on the field of materials screening, and highlight the challenges that limit its application. We compile and introduce all the elements required for the development, implementation, and operation of multiscale workflows, hence providing a useful practical guide and a comprehensive source of reference to the scientific communities who work in this area. Our review includes information about available materials databases, state-of-the-art molecular simulation and process modeling tools, and a complete catalogue of data and parameters that are required at each stage of the multiscale screening. We thoroughly discuss the challenges associated with data availability, consistency of the models, and reproducibility of the data and, finally, propose new directions for the future of the field.

Abstract
Abstract
In this study, the carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration (CCUS) supply chain network with real geographic locations of sources and sinks, and different CO2-based products for Germany is proposed here for the first time, because not yet investigated in the literature. The CCUS network is a large-scale comprehensive model which is used to meet the mandated target of CO2 emission reduction at different levels with a maximum profit. The novel CCUS infrastructure includes various stationary sources, capture processes, transportation modes, and sequestration and utilization sites. The results suggest that it is possible to reduce current CO2 emissions by 40–80% in Germany with the total annual costs ranging from 519.34 to 1372.03 billion euro while generating 681.55 to 1880.98 billion euro of revenue annually as a result of producing CO2-based chemical products including methanol, dimethyl ether, formic acid, acetic acid, urea, and polypropylene carbonate. Overall, the optimal CCUS systems achieve economic profits of 999.62–1568.17 euro per ton of CO2 captured and utilized. The CCUS model may be critical in aiding decision-makers to ascertain investment strategies for designing CCUS infrastructures.

Abstract
AbstractFunctional materials are widely used in chemical industry in order to reduce the process cost while simultaneously increase the product quality. Considering their significant effects, systematic methods for the optimal selection and design of materials are essential. The conventional synthesis-and-test method for materials development is inefficient and costly. Additionally, the performance of the resulting materials is usually limited by the designer’s expertise. During the past few decades, computational methods have been significantly developed and they now become a very important tool for the optimal design of functional materials for various chemical processes. This article selectively focuses on two important process functional materials, namely heterogeneous catalyst and gas separation agent. Theoretical methods and representative works for computational screening and design of these materials are reviewed.

Abstract
Postcombustion CO2 capture and storage (CCS) is a key technological approach to reducing greenhouse gas emission while we transition to carbon-free energy production. However, current solvent-based CO2 capture processes are considered too energetically expensive for widespread deployment. Vacuum swing adsorption (VSA) is a low-energy CCS that has the potential for industrial implementation if the right sorbents can be found. Metal-organic framework (MOF) materials are often promoted as sorbents for low-energy CCS by highlighting select adsorption properties without a clear understanding of how they perform in real-world VSA processes. In this work, atomistic simulations have been fully integrated with a detailed VSA simulator, validated at the pilot scale, to screen 1632 experimentally characterized MOFs. A total of 482 materials were found to meet the 95% CO2 purity and 90% CO2 recovery targets (95/90-PRTs)-365 of which have parasitic energies below that of solvent-based capture (∼290 kWhe/MT CO2) with a low value of 217 kWhe/MT CO2. Machine learning models were developed using common adsorption metrics to predict a material's ability to meet the 95/90-PRT with an overall prediction accuracy of 91%. It was found that accurate parasitic energy and productivity estimates of a VSA process require full process simulations.

Abstract
A new class of highly porous organic sorbents called microporous humins is presented. These microporous humins are derived from sustainable and industrially abundant resources, have high heat of CO2 sorption, and could potentially be useful for the separation of carbon dioxide from gas mixtures. Their synthesis involves the polymerization of 5-hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF) in concentrated sulfuric acid and treatment with diethyl ether and heat. In particular, the porosities were tuned by the heat treatment. HMF is a potential platform chemical from biorefineries and a common intermediate in carbohydrate chemistry. A high uptake of CO2 (up to 5.27 mmol/g at 0 °C and 1 bar) and high CO2-over-N2 and CO2-over-CH4 selectivities were observed. The microporous humins were aromatic and structurally amorphous, which was shown in a multipronged approach using 13C nuclear magnetic resonance and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopies, elemental analysis, and wide-angle X-ray scattering.

Abstract
The CO2 adsorption properties of cation-exchanged Li-, Na-, K-, and Mg-ZK-5 zeolites were correlated to the molecular structures determined by Rietveld refinements of synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction patterns. Li-, K-, and Na-ZK-5 all exhibited high isosteric heats of adsorption (Qst ) at low CO2 coverage, with Na-ZK-5 having the highest Qst (ca. 49 kJ mol-1 ). Mg2+ was located at the center of the zeolite hexagonal prism with the cation inaccessible to CO2 , leading to a much lower Qst (ca. 30 kJ mol-1 ) and lower overall uptake capacity. Multiple CO2 adsorption sites were identified at a given CO2 loading amount for all four cation-exchanged ZK-5 adsorbents. Site A at the flat eight-membered ring windows and site B/B* in the γ-cages were the primary adsorption sites in Li- and Na-ZK-5 zeolites. Relatively strong dual-cation adsorption sites contributed significantly to an enhanced electrostatic interaction for CO2 in all ZK-5 samples. This interaction gives rise to a migration of Li+ and Mg2+ cations from their original locations at the center of the hexagonal prisms toward the α-cages, in which they interact more strongly with the adsorbed CO2 .
