Abstract
We present the first example of Au-catalyzed reduction of nitriles into primary amines. In contrast to monohydrosilanes which are completely unreactive, diethylsilane (a dihydrosilane) is capable of reducing aryl or alkyl nitriles into primary amines under catalysis by Au nanoparticles supported on TiO2, via a smooth double hydrosilylation pathway. The produced labile N-disilylamines are readily deprotected by HCl in Et2O to form the hydrochloric salts of the corresponding amines in very good to excellent yields. The catalyst is recyclable and reusable at least in 5 consecutive runs.

Abstract
The highly efficient reductive amination of aldehydes with ammonia (NH3) and hydrogen (H2) to form secondary imines is described, as well as the dehydrogenative homocoupling of benzyl amines. Using an air-stable, well-defined PN3-manganese(II) pincer complex as a catalyst precursor, various aldehydes are easily converted directly into secondary imines using NH3 as a nitrogen source under H2 in a one-pot reaction. Importantly, the same catalyst facilitates the dehydrogenative homocoupling of various benzylamines, exclusively forming imine products. These reactions are conducted under very mild conditions, without the addition of any additives, yielding excellent selectivities and high yields of secondary imines in a green manner by minimizing wastes.

Abstract
The reductive Heck hydroarylation of unactivated alkenes has emerged as an essential reaction for regioselective hydroarylation. Herein, we report a palladium-catalyzed reductive Heck hydroarylation of unactivated alkenes under mild conditions with enhanced functional group tolerance using hydrosilane as the reducing reagent. Under the optimal conditions, the alkylarene yields increased, resulting in minimal undesired products. Mechanistic studies using deuterated reagents indicated the involvement of two competing catalytic cycles.

Abstract
The N,N'-chelated conjugated bis-guanidinate (CBG) supported zinc hydride (Zn-1) pre-catalyzed highly challenging chemoselective mono-hydrosilylation of a wide range of nitriles to exclusive N-silylimines and/or N,N'-silyldiimines is reported. Furthermore, the effectiveness of pre-catalyst Zn-1 is compared with another pre-catalyst analogue, i.e., DiethylNacNac zinc hydride (Zn-2), to know the ligand effect. We observed that pre-catalyst Zn-1 shows high efficiency and better selectivity than pre-catalyst Zn-2 for reducing nitriles to N-silylimines. Mechanistic studies indicate the insertion of the C≡N bond of nitrile into Zn-H to form the zinc vinylidenamido complexes (Zn-1' and Zn-2'). The active catalysts Zn-1' and Zn-2' are confirmed by NMR, mass spectrometry, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. A most plausible catalytic cycle has been explored depending on stoichiometric experiments, active catalysts isolation, and in situ studies. Moreover, the synthetic utility of this protocol was demonstrated.

Abstract
Hydrosilylation reactions are commonly used for the reduction of carbonyl bonds in fine chemistry, catalyzed by transition metal complexes. The current challenge is to expand the scope of metal-free alternative catalysts, including in particular organocatalysts. This work describes the organocatalyzed hydrosilylation of benzaldehyde with a phosphine, introduced at 10 mol%, and phenylsilane at room temperature. The activation of phenylsilane was highly dependent on the physical properties of the solvent such as the polarity, and the highest conversions were obtained in acetonitrile and propylene carbonate with yields of 46 % and 97 %, respectively. The best results of the screening over 13 phosphines and phosphites were obtained with linear trialkylphoshines (PMe3 , Pn Bu3 , POct3 ), indicating the importance of their nucleophilicity, with yields of 88 %, 46 % and 56 %, respectively. With the help of heteronuclear 1 H-29 Si NMR spectroscopy, the products of the hydrosilylation (PhSiH3-n (OBn)n ) were identified, allowing a monitoring of the concentration in the different species, and thereby of their reactivity. The reaction displayed an induction period of ca. 60 min, followed by the sequential hydrosilylations presenting various reaction rates. In agreement with the formation of partial charges in the intermediate state, we propose a mechanism based on a hypervalent silicon center via the Lewis base activation of the silicon Lewis acid.

Abstract
Nitrile activation is a prominent topic in recent developments in chemistry, especially in organic, inorganic, biological chemistry, as well as in the natural synthesis of products and in the pharmaceutical industry. The activation of nitriles using both metal and non-metal precursors has attracted several researchers, who are exploring newer ways to synthesize novel compounds. Nitrile activation can be achieved by combining various catalytic double hydroelementation reactions, such as hydrosilylation, hydroboration, and hydrogenation of organonitriles using silanes, pinacolborane, and other sources of hydrogen. These methodologies have garnered considerable attention since they are effective in the reduction of organonitriles, whose end products are extensively applied in synthetic organic chemistry. In this review, we summarize the development of selective hydroborylation, hydrosilylation, dihydroborysilylation, and hydrogenation of organonitriles, as well as their reaction mechanisms and the role of metal complexes in the catalytic cycles. This review article explains various synthetic methodologies applied toward the reduction of organonitriles into corresponding amines.

Abstract
Organoborane-catalyzed hydroboration of nitriles provides N,N-diborylamines, which act as efficient synthons for the synthesis of primary amines and secondary amides. Known nitrile hydroboration methods are dominated by metal catalysis. Simple and metal-free hydroboration of nitriles using diborane [H-B-9-BBN]2 as a catalyst and pinacolborane as a turnover reagent is reported. The reaction of monomeric H-B-9-BBN with nitriles leads to the hydrido-bridged diborylimine intermediate; a subsequent sequential double hydroboration-transborylation pathway involving B-N/B-H σ bond metathesis is proposed.

Abstract
Selective hydrogenation of unsaturated compounds is mainly carried out by using high-pressure hydrogen in the presence of a precious or transition metal catalyst. Here, we describe a benign approach to efficiently catalyze the hydrogenation of furfural (FUR) to furfuryl alcohol (FFA) over commercially available cesium carbonate using nontoxic and cheap polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) as hydrogen source. Good to excellent FFA yields (≥90%) could be obtained at 25-80 °C by appropriate control of the catalyst dosage, reaction time, and the hydride amount. FUR-to-FFA hydrogenation was clarified to follow a pseudo-first order kinetics with low apparent activation energy of 20.6 kJ mol-1. Mechanistic insights manifested that PMHS was redistributed to H3SiMe, which acted as the active silane for the hydrogenation reactions. Importantly, this catalytic system was able to selectively reduce a wide range of aromatic aldehydes to the corresponding alcohols in good yields of 81-99% at 25-80 °C in 2-6 h.

Carbonate-Catalyzed Room-Temperature Selective Reduction of Biomass-Derived 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural into 2,5-Bis(hydroxymethyl)furan. Catalysts 2018. Abstract
Catalytic reduction of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), deemed as one of the key bio-based platform compounds, is a very promising pathway for the upgrading of biomass to biofuels and value-added chemicals. Conventional hydrogenation of HMF is mainly conducted over precious metal catalysts with high-pressure hydrogen. Here, a highly active, sustainable, and facile catalytic system composed of K2CO3, Ph2SiH2, and bio-based solvent 2-methyltetrahydrofuran (MTHF) was developed to be efficient for the reduction of HMF. At a low temperature of 25 °C, HMF could be completely converted to 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)furan (BHMF) in a good yield of 94% after 2 h. Moreover, a plausible reaction mechanism was speculated, where siloxane in situ formed via hydrosilylation was found to be the key species responsible for the high reactivity.

Abstract
The catalytic double hydrometalation such as hydrosilylation and hydroborylation of organonitriles has attracted considerable attention because the obtained products are widely used in organic synthesis and it is thought to be one of the effective methods for reduction of organonitriles. However, the examples of these reactions are quite limited to date. This paper summarizes the development of selective double hydrosilylation, double hydroborylation, and dihydroborylsilylation of organonitriles, including their reaction mechanisms and the role of the metal species in the catalytic cycle.

Abstract
We report here the synthesis of a robust and porous metal-organic framework (MOF), Zr12-TPDC, constructed from triphenyldicarboxylic acid (H2TPDC) and an unprecedented Zr12 secondary building unit (SBU): Zr12(μ3-O)8(μ3-OH)8(μ2-OH)6. The Zr12-SBU can be viewed as an inorganic node dimerized from two commonly observed Zr6 clusters via six μ2-OH groups. The metalation of Zr12-TPDC SBUs with CoCl2 followed by treatment with NaBEt3H afforded a highly active and reusable solid Zr12-TPDC-Co catalyst for the hydrogenation of nitroarenes, nitriles, and isocyanides to corresponding amines with excellent activity and selectivity. This work highlights the opportunity in designing novel MOF-supported single-site solid catalysts by tuning the electronic and steric properties of the SBUs.

Abstract
Novel heterogeneous cobalt-based catalysts have been prepared by pyrolysis of cobalt complexes with nitrogen ligands on different inorganic supports. The activity and selectivity of the resulting materials in the hydrogenation of nitriles and carbonyl compounds is strongly influenced by the modification of the support and the nitrogen-containing ligand. The optimal catalyst system ([Co(OAc)2/Phen@α-Al2O3]-800 = Cat. E) allows for efficient reduction of both aromatic and aliphatic nitriles including industrially relevant dinitriles to primary amines under mild conditions. The generality and practicability of this system is further demonstrated in the hydrogenation of diverse aliphatic, aromatic, and heterocyclic ketones as well as aldehydes, which are readily reduced to the corresponding alcohols.

Inspired by the autoxidation processes, a dioxygen induced C-N bond activation of primary alkyl amines was demonstrated toward the synthesis of pyridines and quinolines. The transition-metal free conditions with O2 as the sole oxidant make this transformation very attractive. Notably, the substrate applicability of different kinds of ketones is greatly broadened for this transformation.

Abstract
The catalytic hydrogenation of carboxylic acid derivatives represents an atom-efficient and clean reduction methodology in organic chemistry. More specifically, the selective hydrogenation of nitriles offers the possibility for a green synthesis of valuable primary amines. So far, this transformation lacks of useful, broadly applicable non-noble metal-based catalyst systems. In the present study, we describe a molecular-defined iron complex, which allows for the hydrogenation of aryl, alkyl, heterocyclic nitriles and dinitriles. By using an iron PNP pincer complex, we achieve very good functional group tolerance. Ester, ether, acetamido as well as amino substituents are not reduced in the presence of nitriles. Moreover, nitriles including an α,β-unsaturated double bond and halogenated derivatives are well tolerated in this reaction. Notably, our complex constitutes the first example of an homogeneous catalyst, which permits the selective hydrogenation of industrially important adipodinitrile to 1,6-hexamethylenediamine.

Abstract
Metal and ligand free chemoselective reduction of keto group and complete reduction of the both keto and amide groups of α-keto amide with hydrosilanes using tetrabutylammoniumflouride (TBAF) as catalyst have been accomplished. This methodology affords an efficient and economic route for the synthesis of biologically important α-hydroxy amides and β-amino alcohols.
