Abstract
To solve the problem that zinc oxide nanorods (ZnO NRs)-based self-powered ultraviolet (UV) photodetectors cannot obtain both higher responsiveness and shorter response time, P(EDOS-TTh) was prepared using 3,4-ethylenedioxyselenphene (EDOS) and terthiophene (TTh) as copolymers, which modify the ZnO NRs surface, and the ZnO/P(EDOS-TTh) P-N junction self-powered UV device is assembled. The effect of the number of electrochemical polymerization cycles on the UV photodetection performance of ZnO/P(EDOS-TTh) P-N heterojunction was studied by adjusting the number of electrochemical polymerization cycles at the monomer molar ratio of 1:1. Benefiting from the enhanced built-in electric field of the ZnO/P(EDOS-TTh) interface, balancing photogenerated carriers, and charge separation and transport. The results show that the contact between N-type ZnO NRs and P-type P(EDOS-TTh) is best when the number of polymerization cycles is 3, due to the fact that EDOS-TTh and ZnO NRs form excellent P-N heterojunctions with strong internal electric fields, and the devices show good pyroelectric effect and UV photodetection performance. Under 0 V bias and 0.32 mW/cm2 UV irradiation, the responsivity (R) of ZnO/P(EDOS-TTh) reaches 3.31 mA/W, the detectivity (D*) is 7.25 × 1010 Jones, and the response time is significantly shortened. The rise time is 0.086 s, which exhibited excellent photoelectric properties and stability. UV photodetection performance with high sensitivity and fast response time is achieved.

Abstract
Photodetection plays an essential role in the visible-light zone and is important in modern science and technology owing to its potential applications in various fields. Fabrication of a stable photodetector remains a challenge for researchers. We demonstrated a high-response/recovery and self-powered undoped ZnO (UZO) and Cu-doped ZnO (CZO) thin film-based visible-light photodetector fabricated on a cost-effective Si substrate using reactive cosputtering. The structural, morphological, and optical properties of CZO and UZO thin films have been examined using X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The results of the CZO/n-Si photodetector compared with those of the undoped ZnO (UZO)/n-Si photodetector show that the CZO/n-Si exhibits a higher on/off ratio, responsivity, and detectivity than UZO/n-Si. Also, the CZO/n-Si photodetector shows high stability and reproducibility over 20 cycles after 180 days. A relative study of CZO/n-Si- and UZO/n-Si-based photodetectors reveals the enhanced performance of the CZO/n-Si photodetector, which has a high on/off ratio of ∼300 with a high specific detectivity of 2.8 × 1010 Jones for 75 mW visible light. The prepared self-powered CZO/n-Si/Ag thin film-based visible-light photodetector paves the way for the development of high-performance photodetector designs.

Abstract
Plasmonic Cu nanoparticles (NP) were successfully deposited on ZnO substrates by atomic layer deposition (ALD) owing to the Volmer-Weber island growth mode. An evolution from Cu NP to continuous Cu films was observed with an increasing number of ALD cycles. Real and imaginary parts of the NP dielectric functions, determined by spectroscopic ellipsometry using an effective medium approach, evidence a localized surface plasmon resonance that can be tuned between the visible and near-infrared ranges by controlling the interparticle spacing and size of the NP. The resulting Cu NP/ZnO device shows an enhanced photoresponse under white light illumination with good responsivity values, fast response times, and stability under dark/light cycles. The significant photocurrent detected for this device is related to the hot-electron generation at the NP surface and injection into the conduction band of ZnO. The possibility of tuning the plasmon resonance together with the photoresponsivity of the device is promising in many applications related to photodetection, photonics, and photovoltaics.

Abstract
Tunable plasmonic resonance induced by the collective oscillation of the electrons on metallic nanostructures can excellently enhance the light response of ZnO films, which provides an effective way to break through the limitation of the performance of ZnO photodetectors. Here, broad-band high-performance ZnO/Au heterostructures photodetectors with various morphologies of self-assembled Au nanoantennas are fabricated via a facile approach under the spin-coated ZnO colloidal quantum dots films. With a systematic control on growth condition, the self-assembled Au nanoantennas undergo a drastic evolution from the corrugated nanomounds to the island-like nanostructures, and the light absorption of the resulting ZnO/Au heterostructures correspondingly exhibits a strongly morphological dependence on the Au nanoantennas. Meanwhile, the photoresponse of the ZnO-based photodetectors is significantly improved throughout a wide spectrum between UV and visible regions owing to the enhanced light absorption induced by the localized surface plasmon resonance. As a result, the optimal switch ratio of the ZnO/Au heterostructures photodetector increases by 1 order to ∼1.13 × 105 than that of the pristine ZnO one because of the obviously increased photocurrent ( Iph) and comparable dark current, thus leading to ∼9.1 and ∼4.9 times increases in the photoresponsivity and the normalized detectivity. Meanwhile, the significant increases in the Iph of ∼5.2 and ∼9.7 times are likewise observed with the ZnO/Au heterostructures under 530 nm and white-light illumination. This work can offer a handy and effective approach for the fabrication of ultrasensitive ZnO-based photodetectors within a broad-band wavelength by utilizing the Au plasmonic nanostructures.

Abstract
We demonstrate a straightforward and effective method to synthesize vertically oriented, Cu-doped ZnO nanorods (NRs) using a novel multipurpose platform of copper silicide nanoblocks (Cu3Si NBs) preformed laterally in well-defined directions on Si. The use of the surface-organized Cu3Si NBs for ZnO NR growth successfully results in densely assembled Cu-doped ZnO NRs on each NB platform, whose overall structures resemble thick bristles on a brush head. We show that Cu3Si NBs can uniquely serve as a catalyst for ZnO NRs, a local dopant source of Cu, and a prepatterned guide to aid the local assembly of the NRs on the growth substrate. We also ascertain the crystalline structures, optical properties, and spectroscopic signatures of the Cu-doped ZnO NRs produced on the NBs, both at each module of NRs/NB and at their ensemble level. Subsequently, we determine their augmented properties relative to the pristine form of undoped ZnO NRs and the source material of Cu3Si NBs. We provide spatially correlated structural and optical data for individual modules of Cu-doped ZnO NRs assembled on a Cu3Si NB by resolving them along the different positions on the NB. Ensemble-averaged versus individual behaviors of Cu-doped ZnO NRs on Cu3Si NBs are then compared. We further discuss the potential impact of such ZnO-derived NRs on their relatively unexplored biological and biomedical applications. Our efforts will be particularly useful when exploiting each integrated module of self-aligned, Cu-doped ZnO NRs on a NB as a discretely addressable, active element in solid-state sensors and miniaturized luminescent bioprobes.

Abstract
A broadband photodetector has been developed on the basis of ZnO nanowires (NWs)/Rhodamine B (RhB) hybrid system. The device is fabricated by spraying NWs on to gold interdigital electrodes followed by modifying the NWs via an RhB solution-casting process. Measurements show that the as-fabricated device demonstrates photoresponsivity ranging from 300 nm to 700 nm with a bandwidth as large as 400 nm. The role of the dye sensitizer adsorbed on the surface of NWs is modeled to alter the transportation path of photo-generated carriers. The calculations based on the measurements reveal that the device exhibits a prominent responsivity in the interested band with maximum responsivity of 5.5 A/W for ultraviolet (UV) light and 3 A/W for visible (VIS) light under 8 V bias, respectively. The sensitization not only widens the response spectrum with external quantum efficiency leaping up to 771% at VIS but also improves UV responsivity with maximum 51% enhancement. From the time–dependent photo-current measurement, it is found that the response time (rise and decay times in total) of the device largely reduced from 17.5 s to 3.3 s after sensitization. A comparison of the obtained photodetector with other ZnO-based photodetectors is summarized from the view point of responsivity and bandwidth.

Abstract
In the present work, a ZnO nanowire array/reduced graphene oxide film hybrid nanostructure was realized, and the photovoltaic responses from the visible to the near-infrared range were investigated. Compared with the pure ZnO nanowire array and rGO thin film, the hybrid composite exhibited a fast and greatly enhanced broadband photovoltaic response that resulted from the formation of interfacial Schottky junctions between ZnO and rGO.

Abstract
A new self-powered broadband photodetector was fabricated by coating an n-silicon nanowire (n-Si NW) array with a layer of p-cupric oxide (CuO) nanoflakes through a new simple solution synthesis method. The p-n heterojunction shows excellent rectification characteristics in the dark and distinctive photovoltaic behavior under broadband light illumination. The photoresponse of the detector at zero bias voltage shows that this self-powered photodetector is highly sensitive to visible and near-infrared light illuminations, with excellent stability and reproducibility. Ultrafast response rise and recovery times of 60 and 80 μs, respectively, are shown by the CuO based nanophotodetector. In addition, the broadband photodetector can also provide a rapid binary response, with current changing from positive to negative upon illumination under a small bias. The binary response arises from the photovoltaic behavior and the low turn-on voltage of the CuO/Si NW device. These properties make the CuO/Si NW broadband photodetector suitable for applications that require high response speeds and self-sufficient functionality.
