Abstract
The present work explores two biphenyl-dicarboxylate linkers, 3,3'-dihydroxy-(1,1'-biphenyl)-4,4'-dicarboxylic (H4L1) and 4,4'-dihydroxy-(1,1'-biphenyl)-3,3'-dicarboxylic (H4L2) acids, in hydrothermal generation of nine new compounds formulated as [Co2(μ2-H2L1)2(phen)2(H2O)4] (1), [Mn2(μ4-H2L1)2(phen)2]n·4nH2O (2), [Zn(μ2-H2L1)(2,2'-bipy)(H2O)]n (3), [Cd(μ2-H2L1) (2,2'-bipy)(H2O)]n (4), [Mn2(μ2-H2L1)(μ4-H2L1)(μ2-4,4'-bipy)2]n·4nH2O (5), [Zn(μ2-H2L1)(μ2-4,4'-bipy)]n (6), [Zn(μ2-H2L2)(phen)]n (7), [Cd(μ3-H2L2)(phen)]n (8), and [Cu(μ2-H2L2) (μ2-4,4'-bipy)(H2O)]n (9). These coordination polymers (CPs) were generated by reacting a metal(II) chloride, a H4L1 or H4L2 linker, and a crystallization mediator such as 2,2'-bipy (2,2'-bipyridine), 4,4'-bipy (4,4'-bipyridine), or phen (1,10-phenanthroline). The structural types of 1-9 range from molecular dimers (1) to one-dimensional (3, 4, 7) and two-dimensional (8, 9) CPs as well as three-dimensional metal-organic frameworks (2, 5, 6). Their structural, topological, and interpenetration features were underlined, including an identification of unique two- and fivefold 3D + 3D interpenetrated nets in 5 and 6. Phase purity, thermal and luminescence behavior, as well as catalytic activity of the synthesized products were investigated. Particularly, a Zn(II)-based CP 3 acts as an effective and recyclable heterogeneous catalyst for Henry reaction between a model substrate (4-nitrobenzaldehyde) and nitroethane to give β-nitro alcohol products. For this reaction, various parameters were optimized, followed by the investigation of the substrate scope. By reporting nine new compounds and their structural traits and functional properties, the present work further outspreads a family of CPs constructed from the biphenyl-dicarboxylate H4L1 and H4L2 linkers.

Abstract
The construction of complex intertwined networks that provide fast transport pathways for ions/electrons is very important for electrochemical systems such as water splitting, but a challenge. Herein, a three dimensional (3-D) intertwined network of Cu2-xS/CNFs (x = 0 or 0.04) has been synthesized through the morphology-preserved thermal transformation of the intertwined PEG-b-P4VP/ HKUST-1 hybrid networks. The strong interaction between PEG chains and Cu2+ is the key to the successful assembly of PEG-b-P4VP nanofibers and HKUST-1, which inhibits the HKUST-1 to form individual crystalline particles. The obtained Cu2-xS/CNFs composites possess several merits, such as highly exposed active sites, high-speed electronic transmission pathways, open pore structure, etc. Therefore, the 3-D intertwined hierarchical network of Cu2-xS/CNFs displays an excellent electrocatalytic activity for HER, with a low overpotential (η) of 276 mV to reach current densities of 10 mA cm-2, and a smaller Tafel slope of 59 mV dec-1 in alkaline solution.

Abstract
Ruthenium-based metallotherapeutics is an interesting alternative for platinum complexes acting as anticancer agents after the entry of KP1019, NAMI-A, and TLD1339 in clinical trials. Herein, we have synthesized three new arene ruthenium(II)-tetrazole complexes viz. [Ru2(η6-p-cymene)2(2-pytz)2Cl2] (1), [Ru2(η6-p-cymene)2(3-pytz)Cl3] (2), [Ru2(η6-p-cymene)2(4-pytz)Cl3] (3) [2-pytzH = 2-pyridyl tetrazole; 3-pytzH = 3-pyridyl tetrazole; 4-pytzH = 4-pyridyl tetrazole] which have been characterized by different analytical techniques. To aid the understanding of the complex formation, reactions of the arene ruthenium(II) dimer with tetrazoles were investigated using the first principles-based Density Functional Theory (DFT) B3LYP method. Electronic structures, equilibrium geometries of the reactants and products with the first-order saddle points, reactions mechanism, the changes of enthalpy (∆H) and free energy (∆G), chemical stability, and reaction barriers of the complexes were computed using the B3LYP DFT approach. The in vitro cytotoxicity of these complexes was investigated by MTT assay on different cancer cell lines which reveal complex 2 as the most significant cytotoxic agent toward the HeLa cell line. The complexes have also shown a strong binding affinity towards CT-DNA and albumin proteins (HSA and BSA) as analyzed through spectroscopic techniques. Investigation of the mechanism of cell death by complex 2 was further performed by various staining techniques, flow cytometry, and gene expression analysis by RT-PCR. Inhibition of cell migration study has been also revealed the possibility of complex 2 to act as a prospective anti-metastatic agent.

Abstract
The reactions of 3,3'-{(pyridine-2,6-dicarbonyl)bis(azanediyl)}dibenzoic acid (H2L) with zinc(II), cadmium(II), and samarium(III) nitrates were studied, and the obtained compounds, [Zn(1κO:2κO'-L)(H2O)2] n (1), [Cd(1κO 2:2κO 2-L)(H2O)2]2 ⋅6n H2O⋅ n C4H8O2 ⋅1.5n DMF (2), and [Sm(1κO:2κO'O'':3κO'''-L)(NO3)(H2O)(dmf)] n ⋅ n DMF (3), were characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Compounds 1 and 3 have 1D zigzag- and double-chain-type structures, respectively, whereas 2 features a dinuclear metallomacrocyclic complex. The ligand (L2-) orients in different conformations, that is, syn-syn for 1 and anti-anti for 2 and 3. Compound 1 is the first example in which the syn-syn conformation for this ligand has been observed. These compounds act as heterogeneous catalysts for the nitroaldol (Henry; in water medium) and Knoevenagel condensation reactions of different aldehydes, and the most effective is zinc coordination polymer 1. Recyclability, heterogeneity, and size-selectivity tests were performed, which showed that the catalyst was highly active over at least four recycling runs.

Abstract
In this work, a trifunctional N,O-building block, 5-(4-carboxyphenoxy)nicotinic acid (H2cpna), that combines three distinct types of functional groups (COOH, N-pyridyl, and O-ether) was used for the hydrothermal assembly of thirteen new coordination compounds: [Co(μ3-Hcpna)2]n (1), [Mn(μ4-cpna)(H2O)]n (2), [Mn(μ4-cpna)(H2O)2]n (3), [Mn(μ-cpna)(2,2'-bipy)(H2O)2]n (4), {[Ni(μ3-cpna)(2,2'-bipy)(H2O)]2·H2O}n (5), {[Cd(μ3-cpna)(2,2'-bipy)]·2H2O}n (6), [Zn2(μ-cpna)2(2,2'-bipy)2] (7), [Cu(μ-cpna)(2,2'-bipy)(H2O)]n (8), {[Mn(μ-cpna)(phen)2]·6H2O}n (9), {[Ni(μ3-cpna)(phen)(H2O)]·H2O}n (10), [Zn2(μ-cpna)2(phen)2] (11), {[Pb(μ3-cpna)(phen)]·H2O}n (12), and [Ni(μ3-cpna)(4,4'-bipy)0.5(H2O)]n (13). These products were synthesized from the corresponding metal(ii) chlorides, H2cpna, NaOH, and optional N-donor supporting ligands or templates {bis(4-pyridyl)amine (bpa), 2,2'-bipyridine (2,2'-bipy), 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bipy), or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen)}. Products 1-13 were characterized in the solid state by standard methods, including elemental and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), IR spectroscopy, and powder (PXRD) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The structures of 1-13 feature distinct structural types, namely the 3D metal-organic frameworks (MOFs 1-3), the 2D coordination polymers (5, 6, 10, 12, and 13), the 1D coordination polymers (4, 8, and 9), and the 0D discrete cyclic dimers (7 and 11). Such a wide structural diversity of 1-13 is driven by various factors, including the type of the metal(ii) node, the deprotonation degree of H2cpna, and/or the type of supporting ligand or template. Notably, an addition of bpa can tune the structure of MOF 3 by the template effect. Topological classification of underlying metal-organic networks was performed, leading to several distinct topological nets: rtl (in 1), hxg-d-4-C2/m (in 2), sra (in 3), 2C1 (in 4, 8 and 9), fes (in 5, 10, and 12), hcb (in 6), and 3,4L83 (in 13). The magnetic behavior of 1-5, 8-10, and 13 was studied and theoretically modeled, disclosing antiferromagnetic interactions. The luminescence behavior of 6, 7, 11, and 12 was also investigated.

Abstract
By utilizing the hydrothermal in situ acylation of organic acids with N2H4, three acylhydrazidate-coordinated compounds [Mn(L1)2(H2O)2] (L1=2,3-quinolinedicarboxylhydrazidate; HL1=2,3-dihydropyridazino[4,5-b] quinoline-1,4-dione) 1, [Mn2(ox)(L2)2(H2O)6]·2H2O (L2=benzimidazolate-5,6-dicarboxylhydrazide; HL2=6,7-dihydro-1H-imidazo[4,5-g]phthalazine-5,8-dione; ox=oxalate) 2, and [Cd(HL3)(bpy)] (L3=4,5-di(3'-carboxylphenyl)phthalhydrazidate; H3L3=6,7-dihydro-1H-imidazo[4,5-g]phthalazine-5,8-dione; bpy=2,2'-bipyridine) 3, as well as two acylhydrazide molecules L4 (L4=oxepino[2,3,4-de:7,6,5-d'e']diphthalazine-4,10(5H,9H)-dione) 4 and L5 (L5=4,5-dibromophthalhydrazide; L5=6,7-dibromo-2,3-dihydrophthalazine-1,4-dione) 5 were obtained. X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis reveals that (i) 1 only possesses a mononuclear structure, but it self-assembles into a 2-D supramolecular network via the NhydrazineH⋯Nhydrazine and OwH⋯Ohydroxylimino interactions; (ii) 2 exhibits a dinuclear structure. Ox acts as the linker, while L2 just serves as a terminal ligand; (iii) In 3, L3 acts as a 3-connected node to propagate the 7-coordinated Cd(2+) centers into a 1-D double-chain structure; (iv) 4 is a special acylhydrazide molecule. Two OH groups for the intermediates 3,3'-biphthalhydrazide further lose one water molecule to form 4; (v) 5 is a common monoacylhydrazide molecule. Via the NhydrazineH⋯Ohydrazine, OhydroxyliminoH⋯Oacylamino and the π⋯π interactions, it self-assembles into a 2-D supramolecular network. The photoluminescence analysis reveals that 4 emits light with the maxima at 510nm.

Abstract
The reaction of the Schiff base (3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxybenzylidene)-2-hydroxybenzohydrazide (H3L) with a copper(II) salt of a base of a strong acid, i.e., nitrate, chloride or sulphate, yielded the mononuclear complexes [Cu(H2L)(NO3)(H2O)] (1), [Cu(H2L)Cl]·2MeOH (2) and the binuclear complex [{Cu(H2L)}2(µ-SO4)]·2MeOH (3), respectively, with H2L(-) in the keto form. Compounds 1-3 were characterized by elemental analysis, Infrared (IR) spectroscopy, Electrospray Ionisation Mass Spectrometry (ESI-MS) and single crystal X-ray crystallography. All compounds act as efficient catalysts towards the peroxidative oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexyl hydroperoxide, cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone, under mild conditions. In the presence of an acid promoter, overall yields (based on the alkane) up to 25% and a turnover number (TON) of 250 (TOF of 42 h(-1)) after 6 h, were achieved.

Abstract
Microwave assisted synthesis of the Cu(I) compound [Cu(µ₄-4-ptz)]n [1, 4-ptz=5-(4-pyridyl)tetrazolate] has been performed by employing a relatively easy method and within a shorter period of time compared to its sister compounds. The syntheses of the Cu(II) compounds [Cu₃(µ₃-4-ptz)₄(µ₂-N₃)₂(DMF)₂]n∙(DMF)2n (2) and [Cu(µ₂-4-ptz)₂(H₂O)₂]n (3) using a similar method were reported previously by us. MOFs 1-3 revealed high catalytic activity toward oxidation of cyclic alkanes (cyclopentane, -hexane and -octane) with aqueous hydrogen peroxide, under very mild conditions (at room temperature), without any added solvent or additive. The most efficient system (2/H₂O₂) showed, for the oxidation of cyclohexane, a turnover number (TON) of 396 (TOF of 40 h(-1)), with an overall product yield (cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone) of 40% relative to the substrate. Moreover, the heterogeneous catalytic systems 1-3 allowed an easy catalyst recovery and reuse, at least for four consecutive cycles, maintaining ca. 90% of the initial high activity and concomitant high selectivity.
