Abstract
Porous zirconia medium (PZrM) has been fabricated successfully using polystyrene microparticles (MPs) as templates. The emission spectra of rhodamine B (RhB) [optical amplifying medium] loaded inside PZrM [porous scatterers] were obtained at numerous excitation light intensities. The lasing thresholds (Ith) have been determined experimentally from the variations in the intensity of random laser oscillation peaks, which are suitably separated from the measured emission spectra. Ith is closely related to the pore sizes of PZrM and the added amount of PZrM powder, and it clearly provided the minimum against the pore size. This fact is explained reasonably by the simulation of scattering efficiency on the basis of the Mie scattering theory. Consequently, PZrM as a porous scatterer is superior to Zr MPs from the viewpoint of random laser oscillation. Porous zirconia medium as a porous scatterer was superior to zirconia microparticles with respect to random laser oscillation.![]()

Abstract
Recyclable coherent random lasers assisted by plasmonic nanoparticles in DCM-PVA thin films are studied. Four DCM-PVA films with different nanoparticles are made, and the radiation characteristics of these random lasers are studied. The results show that the emission spectrum of the DCM-PVA film with Au nanoparticle of 50 nm in diameter is optimal, and its threshold is about 6.53 µJ/pulse. Underlying mechanisms are discussed in detail. Then the DCM-PVA film with Au nanoparticles of 50 nm in diameter is detached from a glass substrate and adhered to different substrates. Coherent random lasers also occur when the sample is based on different substrates. Finally, a method of making samples recyclable is proposed, and the emission spectrum of samples as a function of cycle index is studied. The results show that recyclable coherent random lasers can be realized with this method. This study provides a new way, to the best of our knowledge, to realize recyclable coherent random lasers with low-threshold.

Abstract
We report an alternative random laser (RL) architecture based on a flexible and ZnO-enriched cellulose acetate (CA) fiber matrix prepared by electrospinning. The electrospun fibers, mechanically reinforced by polyethylene oxide and impregnated with zinc oxide powder, were applied as an adsorbent surface to incorporate plasmonic centers (silver nanoprisms). The resulting structures - prepared in the absence (CA-ZnO) and in the presence of silver nanoparticles (CA-ZnO-Ag) - were developed to support light excitation, guiding and scattering prototypes of a RL. Both materials were excited by a pulsed (5 Hz, 5 ns) source at 355 nm and their fluorescence emission monitored at 387 nm. The results suggest that the addition of silver nanoprisms to the ZnO- enriched fiber matrix allows large improvement of the RL performance due to the plasmon resonance of the silver nanoprisms, with ~80% reduction in threshold energy. Besides the intensity and spectral analysis, the RL characterization included its spectral and intensity angular dependences. Bending the flexible RL did not affect the spectral characteristics of the device. No degradation was observed in the random laser emission for more than 10,000 shots of the pump laser.

Abstract
Hybrid organic-inorganic metal halide perovskites are currently arousing enthusiasm and stimulating huge activity across several fields of optoelectronics due to their outstanding properties. In this study, we present the incoherent random lasing (RL) emissions from CH3NH3PbBr3 perovskite thin films on both planar fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) substrates and patterned sapphire substrates (PSSs). A detailed examination of the spectral evolution indicates that inelastic exciton-exciton scattering called P-emission is the most plausible mechanism accounting for the lasing emissions. The RL threshold of the perovskite films on PSSs is found to be effectively reduced by more than one order of magnitude from 2.55 to 0.15 μJ per pulse compared to that on FTO substrates. The giant threshold reduction is ascribed to the enhanced random scattering of light and the photon recycling induced by the multireflection processes at the perovskite/PSS interface, which increases the likelihood that the inoperative random rays will re-enter the possible optical loops formed among the perovskite particles, resulting in considerable optical resonance enhancement. The simulation results reveal that the light extraction efficiency on the top facet of the perovskites is significantly increased by approximately 155% by utilizing the PSS instead of the FTO substrate. Moreover, the first direct experimental observation of the multireflection phenomenon of light, as well as the dynamic processes of photon propagation in the composite PSS structure, is presented by Kerr-gate-based time-resolved photoluminescence. Our results provide an effective strategy to achieve high-performance perovskite random lasers and novel light-emitting devices for speckle-free full-field imaging and solid-state lighting applications, by introducing ingeniously designed periodic nano-/microscale optical structures.

Abstract
Electrospun fiber-based random lasers are environment-friendly flexible systems in which waveguiding/scattering processes provided by their structure with a broad distribution of diameters are essential elements to generate a suitable lasing mechanism. In this work, we prepared electrospun fibers with dual-size diameter distribution (above and below the critical value for waveguiding), allowing that both optical processes can be established in the polymer network. As a result, random laser emission was observed for the electrospun fibers presenting dual-size diameters with rhodamine 6G as the gain medium, characterizing the combination of waveguiding/scattering as an adequate condition for development of organic nanofibrous random lasers. Degradation assays were also performed in order to evaluate the prolonged use of such random laser systems.

Abstract
We report on the embedded silver (Ag) nanoparticles fabricated by Ag+ ion implantation into the Bi4Ge3O12 (BGO) crystal. Localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) phenomenon has been observed by linear optical absorption spectrum, which is accordance with the expectation based on Mie theory calculation. Further proofs are given by SRIM, TEM and SAED analysis, which explain the slight difference between experiment and calculation. Based on the z-scan system, it is found that the nonlinear optical response is converted from two-photon absorption to three-photon absorption under the 515 nm femtosecond pulse excitation within the LSPR band. The nonlinear absorption coefficient is measured to be ~3.1 × 10-9 cm/W (two-photon absorption coefficient) and ~8.9 × 10-14cm3/W2 (three-photon absorption coefficient) for pure BGO crystal and the sample embedded with Ag nanoparticles (Ag:BGO), respectively. Finally, we have proposed a model to explain the asymmetric nonlinear transmittance, which is in good agreement with the experimental results.

Abstract
We report the observation of random lasing from Eu(3+) doped borate glass ceramic films embedded with Ag nanoparticles through three-photon absorption at room temperature. Under 1179 nm ultrashort femtosecond pulse excitation, discrete sharp peaks with linewidth ∼0.4 nm emerge randomly from a broad emission band with peak wavelength at ∼612 nm. In addition, the number of sharp peaks increases with the increase of excitation power. We also show that the emission spectrum varies with different observation angles and the corresponding lasing threshold is dependent on the excitation area. Hence, we verify unambiguously that the Eu(3+) doped borate glass ceramic film supports random lasing action via three-photon absorption excitation. In addition, Ag nanoparticles, which act as light scatterers, allow the formation of random microcavities inside the bulk film.
