Abstract
Synthesis of highly strained fused substituted dihydrobenzopyran cyclopropyl lactones derived from coumarin carboxylates are reported. The substrate scope tolerates a variety of 6- and 8-substituents on the coumarin ring. Substitution at the 5- or 7-position is resistant to tricyclic lactone formation except with 7-methyl substitution. Benzamide-containing coumarins afford the tricyclic ketal. A plausible mechanism is proposed for the formation of the fused lactone: intramolecular rearrangement of trans cyclopropyl methyl ketones with phenolic acetate via the formation of a hemiacetal.

Abstract
Due to the diverse applications of cyclopropane analogs in bioorganic, medicinal, and pharmaceutical chemistry, a clean and efficient procedure was established to synthesize spirocyclopropane via an electrochemical reaction which involves a sequence of Michael addition, halogenation, and intramolecular ring-closing reaction. In this study, an environmentally benign synthesis of spirocyclopropane was carried out through the condensation of indan-1,3-dione by aromatic aldehydes or 2-benzylidenemalononitrile derivatives. Constant current electrosynthesis was applied to a mixture of propanol containing sodium bromide as an electrolyte and a brominating agent at room temperature, respectively.

Abstract
Lanthanide bis(trimethylsilyl)amides, [(Me3Si)2N]3Ln(μ-Cl)Li(THF)3, were used as efficient catalysts for a one-pot reaction of α-ketoesters, dialkyl phosphite, and activated alkenes to produce α-dicarbonyl cyclopropanes in moderate to high yields. The reaction was stereoselective and the two adjacent carbonyls linked to the cyclopropane were in the cis-configuration. The high efficiency of the lanthanide amide in catalysing the reaction is the result of the cooperation between the lanthanide metal centre and the N(SiMe3)2 anion.

Abstract
Diactivated cyclopropanes containing two geminal electron withdrawing
groups, commonly called as ‘Doubly Activated Cyclopropanes’ are useful synthons for
the synthesis of many interesting natural products and functionalized molecules. These
geminal electron withdrawing groups (EWG’s) facilitate the regioselective ring opening of
cyclopropanes by polarizing the C-C bond adjacent to it. This polarization also allows
them to undergo 1,3 dipolar cycloaddition reactions when substituted with a suitable electron
donor substituent at the adjacent carbon (donor-acceptor cyclopropanes) in the presence
of suitable dipolarophiles. In this review, we discuss the recent advances in the
chemistry of doubly activated cyclopropanes: their synthesis, reactions and applications in
total synthesis.

Abstract
The applications of [Formula: see text]-tetrabromobenzene-1,3-disulfonamide [TBBDA], poly(N-bromo-N-ethyl-benzene-1,3-disulfonamide) [PBBS], [Formula: see text]-tetrachlorobenzene-1,3-disulfonamide [TCBDA], and poly(N-chloro-N-ethyl-benzene-1,3-disulfonamide) [PCBS] as novel reagents for the preparation of spirocyclopropylbarbiturates from 2-arylidenemalononitriles and barbituric acids are described. In addition, an effective and simple domino procedure for the synthesis of 3-substituted-1,1,2,2-tetracyanocyclopropanes from carbonyl compounds and malononitrile in a one-pot manner is reported. These reactions involve Michael addition, halogenation, and intramolecular ring-closing (MHIRC) reaction sequences. We have developed an efficient procedure for the synthesis of spirocyclopropylbarbiturates and 3-substituted-1,1,2,2-tetracyanocyclopropanes using TBBDA, PBBS, TCBDA, and PCBS as new reagents.
