Abstract
Incorporating sulfur (S) atoms into polymer main chains endows these materials with many attractive features, including a high refractive index, mechanical properties, electrochemical properties, and adhesive ability to heavy metal ions. The copolymerization involving S-containing monomers constitutes a facile method for effectively constructing S-containing polymers with diverse structures, readily tunable sequences, and topological structures. In this review, we describe the recent advances in the synthesis of S-containing polymers via copolymerization or multicomponent polymerization techniques concerning a variety of S-containing monomers, such as dithiols, carbon disulfide, carbonyl sulfide, cyclic thioanhydrides, episulfides and elemental sulfur (S8). Particularly, significant focus is paid to precise control of the main-chain sequence, stereochemistry, and topological structure for achieving high-value applications.

Abstract
New functional initiators for the cationic ring-opening polymerization of 2-alkyl-2-oxazolines are described to introduce a thiol moiety at the α terminus. Both tosylate and nosylate initiators carrying a thioacetate group are obtained in multigram scale, from commercial reagents in two steps, including a phototriggered thiol-ene radical addition. The nosylate derivative gives access to a satisfying control over the cationic ring-opening polymerization of 2-ethyl-2-oxazoline, with dispersity values lower than 1.1 during the entire course of the polymerization, until full conversion. Cleavage of the thioacetate end group is rapidly achieved using triazabicyclodecene, thereby leading to a mercapto terminus. The latter gives access to a new subgeneration of α-functional poly(2-oxazoline)s (butyl ester, N-hydroxysuccinimidyl ester, furan) by Michael addition with commercial (meth)acrylates. The amenability of the mercapto-poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) for covalent surface patterning onto acrylated surfaces is demonstrated in a microchannel cantilever spotting (µCS) experiment, characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and time-of-flight secondary-ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS).

Abstract
Click reactions are utilized widely to modify chain ends and side groups of polymers while click polymerizations based on step-growth polymerization of bifunctional monomers have recently attracted increased attention of polymer chemists. Herein, the combination of two highly efficient click reactions, namely para-fluoro-thiol click and thiol-bromo substitution reactions, is demonstrated to form fluorinated polymers with tuned hydrophobicity owing to the nature of the dithiol linker compound. The key compound in this study is 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluoro benzyl bromide that provides the combination of thiol click reactions. The thiols used here are 4,4-thiobisbenzenthiol, 2,2'-(ethylenedioxy) diethanethiol, and 1,2-ethanedithiol that allow tuning of the properties of obtained polymers. The step-growth click reaction conditions are optimized by screening the effect of reaction temperature, base, solvent, and stochiometric ratio of the compounds. Thermal properties and hydrophobicity of synthesized polymers are determined via water contact angle, thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry measurements, showing thermal stability up to 300 °C, glass transition temperatures ranging from -25 to 82 °C and water contact angles ranging from 55 to 90 °C.

Abstract
A newly prepared tetraphenylethylene-based (TPE-based) covalent organic polymer (COP) named COP-1 exhibits high selectivity for sensing Fe3+ and the limit of detection (LOD) for Fe3+ is 0.42 μM, which is lower than the reported metal-free porous polymers. Furthermore, a WLED is fabricated and the CIE coordinates are (0.32, 0.33), very close to pure white light. The COP-1 shows potential applications in biosensors of Fe3+ and preparation of WLEDs.

Abstract
In a previous work ( ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces 2017, 9, 34349-34355), a facile approach was reported to prepare thin hydrogel films based on the Marangoni effect. After dripping onto a water surface, a drop of ethanol solution of poly(stearyl acrylate- co-acrylic acid) [P(SA- co-AAc)] spread quickly to form a thin film. The solvent exchange from ethanol to water led to the gelation of polymer solution which turned into a hydrogel film. Here, we investigate the scenario and seek for the governing kinetics of the Marangoni effect-assisted preparation of hydrogel films. By incorporating aggregation-induced emission fluorogens into the P(SA- co-AAc) solution, so that fluorescence appears at the gel state, we found that the spreading usually completed before the full gelation of the entire film. The spreading and formation of the gel films were influenced by the molar fraction of SA, f, and the polymer concentration of ethanol solution, CP. The spreading was blocked when CP was too high, whereas the film was fragmented into small pieces when CP was too low. At an intermediate CP, uniform hydrogel films were obtained. Steady spreading at a constant speed was observed during the processes which yielded uniform hydrogel films. Both CP and f influenced the spreading process by tuning the surface tension of the ethanol solution and the viscoelasticity of the gelated film, as suggested by our theoretical model. This work provided kinetic insights into the Marangoni phenomena of viscous polymer solutions. The strategy and principle should be applicable to other systems on preparing thin supramolecular gel films with versatile functions.

Abstract
A novel conjugated cationic polyfluorene (polyelectrolyte) derivative, PFBT, was developed by means of simple and cost-effective oxidative coupling polymerization method. PFBT displayed dual state emission in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) as well as in water, a characteristic phenomenon of polyfluorene homopolymers, and tested for nitroexplosive analytes detection to observe a remarkable fluorescence quenching response for picric acid (PA) in the both solvents. The polymer PFBT demonstrated substantial selectivity and ultrasensitivity toward nitroexplosive PA in both the solvents (DMSO and H2O) with exceptional quenching constant values of 2.69 × 104 and 2.18 × 105 M-1 and a ultralow limit of detection of 92.7 nM (21.23 ppb) and 0.19 nM (43.53 ppt) in respective solvents. Furthermore, economical portable test strip devices were prepared for easy and fast on-site PA sensing, which can detect up to 0.22 ag level of PA. PA sensing in vapor phase was also established, that could detect up to 42.6 ppb level of PA vapors. Interestingly, the mechanism of sensing in DMSO solvent was attributed to substantial inner filter effect and photoinduced electron transfer, while in H2O the sensing occurs via possible resonance energy transfer and photoinduced electron transfer, which is exceptional and not reported earlier for a single probe.

Abstract
The novel polytriphenylamines derivatives PTPA1-TPE and PTPA2-TPE with TPE as side groups and bis(tert-butyl)-TPE in the backbones have been successfully synthesized via Yamamoto-type coupling under microwave heating. The incorporation of TPE units in the backbones and side-chains endows the polymers with a distinct AIE effect and high fluorescence quantum yields in the solid state. Meanwhile, nitroaromatic explosive detection based on dispersed, electron-rich PTPA1-TPE and PTPA2-TPE nanoaggregates in THF/water was carried out. Both of them show high sensitivity towards the TNT analyte, with a maximum Stern-Volmer quenching constant K sv of up to 8.3 × 104 M-1. In addition, the paper strip test demonstrates the promising practical application of the polymers as solid state sensors towards PL-based nitroaromatic explosive detection.

Abstract
This study reports the synthesis and photophysical properties of a star-shaped, novel, fluoranthene-tetraphenylethene (TFPE) conjugated luminogen, which exhibits aggregation-induced blue-shifted emission (AIBSE). The bulky fluoranthene units at the periphery prevent intramolecular rotation (IMR) of phenyl rings and induces a blueshift with enhanced emission. The AIBSE phenomenon was investigated by solvatochromic and temperature-dependent emission studies. Nanoaggregates of TFPE, formed by varying the water/THF ratio, were investigated by SEM and TEM and correlated with optical properties. The TFPE conjugate was found to be a promising fluorescent probe towards the detection of nitroaromatic compounds (NACs), especially for 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (PA) with high sensitivity and a high Stern-Volmer quenching constant. The study reveals that nanoaggregates of TFPE formed at 30 and 70% water in THF showed unprecedented sensitivity with detection limits of 0.8 and 0.5 ppb, respectively. The nanoaggregates formed at water fractions of 30 and 70% exhibit high Stern-Volmer constants (Ksv=79,998 and 51,120 M(-1), respectively) towards PA. Fluorescence quenching is ascribed to photoinduced electron transfer between TFPE and NACs with a static quenching mechanism. Test strips coated with TFPE luminogen demonstrate fast and ultra-low-level detection of PA for real-time field analysis.

Abstract
The suitability of pentafluorophenyl (PFP) esters and PFP alkyl moieties for orthogonal dual functionalization of block copolymer segments is evaluated. While amidation followed by para-fluoro–thiol substitution is a viable reaction sequence, thiol-based substitution can occur on PFP esters at a high rate, thereby hampering the viability of the reverse sequence.
