Abstract
Smart membranes, nanodevices, chemical sensors, and catalytic coatings are some of the applications that make the metal-organic framework (MOF) thin films very important. Encapsulation of nanoparticles in the porous structure of MOFs can lead to the formation of effective catalysts with new unique properties and wide range of applications that may not be obtained by MOFs individually. Three main strategies, ship-in-a-bottle, bottle-around-the-ship, and in situ synthesis including the simultaneous formation of the two components, were applied for the synthesis of Pt(0)@zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) thin films at the toluene/water interface. The effects of platinum precursor transfer directions toward the interface on the properties of the films were investigated by using the [PtCl2(cod)] (where cod = cis,cis-1,5-cyclooctadiene) complex soluble in toluene as the upper phase and K2PtCl4 soluble in water as the lower phase. The six obtained films with different morphologies were applied as electrocatalysts for the methanol oxidation reaction. Considerable current density, mass activity, catalyst stability, activation energy, exchange current density, maximum power, and long-term poisoning rate are some of the advantages of the Pt(0)@ZIF-8 catalysts synthesized using the in situ strategy and K2PtCl4 as the platinum precursor. Furthermore, we report the formation of Pt@ZIF-8 nanorods at the interfaces without using any stabilizer or template. Our results suggest that the in situ strategy at the liquid/liquid interface is one of the best procedures for the synthesis of Pt(0)@ZIF-8 thin films as a suitable anode electrocatalyst for methanol fuel cells.

Abstract
Thin film technology is pervasive for many fields with high impact in our daily lives, which makes processing materials such as thin films a very important subject in materials science and technology. However, several paramount materials cannot be prepared as thin films through the well-known and consolidated deposition routes, which strongly limits their applicability. This is particularly noticeable for multi-component and complex nanocomposites, which present unique properties due to the synergic effect between the components, but have several limitations to be obtained as thin films, mainly if homogeneity and transparence are required. This review highlights the main advances of a novel approach to both process and synthesize different classes of materials as thin films, based on liquid/liquid interfaces. The so-called liquid/liquid interfacial route (LLIR) allows the deposition of thin films of single- or multi-component materials, easily transferable over any kind of substrate (plastics and flexible substrates included) with precise control of the thickness, homogeneity and transparence. More interesting, it allows the in situ synthesis of multi-component materials directly as thin films stabilized at the liquid/liquid interface, in which problems related to both the synthesis and processing are solved together in a single step. This review presents the basis of the LLIR and several examples of thin films obtained from different classes of materials, such as carbon nanostructures, metal and oxide nanoparticles, two-dimensional materials, organic and organometallic frameworks, and polymer-based nanocomposites, among others. Moreover, specific applications of those films in different technological fields are shown, taking advantage of the specific properties emerging from the unique preparation route.

Abstract
Reactions of SnX2 (X = Cl, Br) with [PtMe2(bipy)], 1, (bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine), followed by NaBH4 reduction at the toluene/water interface in the presence or absence of graphene oxide support rendered PtSn nanoalloy thin films. They were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The electrocatalytical activity of the PtSn thin films was investigated in the methanol oxidation reaction. Our studies showed that the PtSn/reduced-graphene oxide (RGO) thin film gave better catalytic results for MOR in comparison to bare PtSn or Pt thin films. A maximum jf/jb ratio (jf and jb are the maximum current densities in the forward and backward scans, respectively) of 6.77 was obtained for the PtSn/RGO thin film deriving from the 1 + SnBr2 + NaBH4 sequence.

Abstract
Performance degradation generated by reverse current flow during fuel cell shut-down/start-up is a big challenge for commercialization of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells in automobile applications. Under transient operating conditions, the formation of H2/O2 boundaries on Pt surfaces and the occurrence of undesired oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in an anode cause severe degradation of carbon supports and Pt catalysts in a cathode because of an increase of the cathode potential up to ∼1.5 V. Herein, to directly prevent the formation of H2/O2 boundaries in the anode, we propose a unique metal-carbon hybrid core-shell anode catalyst having Pt nanoparticles encapsulated in nanoporous carbon shells for selective H2 permeation. This hybrid catalyst exhibits high hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) selectivity along with fully subdued ORR activity during long-term operation because of the excellent stability of the carbon molecular sieves. Furthermore, the HOR-selective catalyst effectively suppresses the reverse current flow in a single cell under shut-down/start-up conditions.

Abstract
Zeolite faujasite is widely used as a catalyst in many industrial catalytic applications. In this study, synthesis and characterization of magnetic zeolite Y-palladium-nickel ferrite were studied. First, palladium nanoparticles were combined with nickel ferrite and then placed on zeolite Y by ultrasonic treatment. The structure and morphology of the synthesized magnetic zeolite Y-palladium-nickel ferrite were characterized using Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray, vibrating sample magnetometer, and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy analysis. Also, we investigated the catalytic activity of this prepared zeolite in Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction between phenylboronic acid and aryl halides. Our study shows that magnetic zeolite Y-palladium-nickel ferrite is a suitable catalyst for Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction. Short reaction time, high yield, and easy reusability are the advantages of using this catalyst in carbon-carbon cross-coupling reactions.

Abstract
The high interfacial tension between two immiscible liquids can provide the necessary driving force for the self-assembly of nanoparticles at the interface. Particularly, the interface between water and oily liquids (hydrocarbon chains) has been exploited to prepare networks of highly interconnected graphene sheets of only a few layers thickness, which are well suited for industrial applications. Studying such complex systems through particle-based simulations could greatly enhance the understanding of the various driving forces in action and could possibly give more control over the self-assembly process. However, the interaction potentials used in particle-based simulations are typically derived by reproducing bulk properties and are therefore not suitable for describing systems dominated by interfaces. To address this issue, we introduce a methodology to derive solid-liquid interaction potentials that yield an accurate representation of the balance between interfacial interactions at atomistic and coarse-grained resolutions. Our approach is validated through its ability to lead to the adsorption of graphene nanoflakes at the interface between water and n-hexane. The development of accurate coarse-grained potentials that our approach enables will allow us to perform large-scale simulations to study the assembly of graphene nanoparticles at the interface between immiscible liquids. Our methodology is illustrated through a simulation of many graphene nanoflakes adsorbing at the interface.

Abstract
In this study, ultrasonic assisted synthesis of Pd-Ni/Fe3O4 core-shell nanoalloys is reported. Unique reaction condition was prepared by ultrasonic irradiation, releasing the stored energy in the collapsed bubbles and heats the bubble contents that leads to Pd(II) and Ni(II) reduction. Co-precipitation method was applied for the synthesis of Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs). Immobilized solution was produced by sonicating the aqueous mixture of Fe3O4 and mercaptosuccinic acid to obtain Pd-Ni alloys on Fe3O4 magnetic NP cores. The catalytic activity of the synthesized Pd-Ni/Fe3O4 core-shells was investigated in the Suzuki-Miyaura CC coupling reaction and 4-nitrophenol reduction, which exhibited a high catalytic activity in both reactions. These magnetic NPs can be separated from the reaction mixture by external magnetic field. This strategy is simple, economical and promising for industrial applications.

Abstract
Core-shell nanocatalysts are a distinctive class of nanomaterials with varied potential applications in view of their unique structure, composition-dependent physicochemical properties, and promising synergism among the individual components. A one-pot microwave (MW)-assisted approach is described to prepare the reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-supported Pd-Pt core-shell nanoparticles, (Pd@Pt/rGO); spherical core-shell nanomaterials (∼95 nm) with Pd core (∼80 nm) and 15 nm Pt shell were nicely distributed on the rGO matrix in view of the choice of reductant and reaction conditions. The well-characterized composite nanomaterials, endowed with synergism among its components and rGO support, served as catalysts in aromatic dehalogenation reactions and for the reduction of olefins with high yield (>98%), excellent selectivity (>98%) and recyclability (up to 5 times); both Pt/rGO and Pd/rGO and even their physical mixtures showed considerably lower conversions (20 and 57%) in dehalogenation of 3-bromoaniline. Similarly, in the reduction of styrene to ethylbenzene, Pd@Pt core-shell nanoparticles (without rGO support) possess considerably lower conversion (60%) compared to Pd@Pt/rGO. The mechanism of dehalogenation reactions with Pd@Pt/rGO catalyst is discussed with the explicit premise that rGO matrix facilitates the adsorption of the reducing agent, thus enhancing its local concentration and expediting the hydrazine decomposition rate. The versatility of the catalyst has been validated via diverse substrate scope for both reduction and dehalogenation reactions.

Abstract
We have developed Pt/Fe3O4/reduced-graphene oxide nanohybrids modified glassy carbon (Pt/Fe3O4/RGO/GC) electrode as a novel system for the preparation of electrochemical sensing platform. Characterization of as-made composite was determined using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and energy-dispersive analysis of X-ray (EDAX) where the Pt, Fe, Si, O and C elements were observed. The Pt/Fe3O4/RGO/GC electrode was characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Due to the synergistic effect between Pt, Fe3O4 and RGO, the nanohybrid exhibited excellent performance toward dihydronicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) oxidation in 0.1M phosphate buffer solution, pH7.0, with a low detection limit of 5nM.

Abstract
A simple method for the deposition of noble metal (Pd, Au) nanoparticles on a free-standing chemical vapour deposited graphene monolayer is reported. Metal deposition can proceed using either spontaneous or electrochemically-controlled processes. The resultant nanoclusters are characterized using atomic force and electron microscopy techniques, and mapping mode Raman spectroscopy.
A simple method for the deposition of noble metal (Pd, Au) nanoparticles on a free-standing chemical vapour deposited graphene (CVD GR) monolayer is reported. The method consists of assembling the high purity CVD GR, by transfer from poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), at the organic/water interface. Metal deposition can then proceed using either spontaneous or electrochemically-controlled processes. The resultant graphene-based metal nanoclusters are characterized using atomic force and electron microscopy techniques, and the location of the nanostructures underneath the graphene layer is determined from the position and the intensity changes of the Raman bands (D, G, 2D). This novel process for decoration of a single-layer graphene sheet with metal nanoparticles using liquid/liquid interfaces opens an alternative and useful way to prepare low dimensional carbon-based nanocomposites and electrode materials.
