Fast screening method for early diagnostic of gastric cancer based on utilization of a chitosan - S-doped graphene - based needle stochastic sensors

Needle stochastic sensors were developed for the assay of carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in different biological samples (e.g., whole blood, tissues, urine, and saliva). Sulfur doped graphene powders were modified with chitosan; paraffin oil was added to form a homogeneous paste that was used as active side of the stochastic sensors. High sensitivities and low limits of determination were achieved for the assay of CA19-9 and CEA in biological samples. The validation of the proposed screening method (which is utilizing the stochastic sensors as screening tools) was made by using real biological samples obtained from confirmed patients with gastric cancer; very good correlations for the concentrations of CEA and CA19-9 were obtained using the needle stochastic sensors.

Fast screening method for molecular recognition of islet amyloid polypeptide from whole blood samples collected from diabetic patients with disposable stochastic sensors obtained by nanolayer, and nanolayer by nanolayer deposition using cold plasma

Nanolayer and nanolayer by nanolayer deposition of nanofilms of Ag and C using cold plasma in sequences (Ag, Ag-C, Ag-Ag-C), on porous paper, were used to design three disposable stochastic sensors for the assay of amyloid polypeptide from whole blood. The nanofilms were modified with α-cyclodextrin. The test developed using the nanofilm-based disposable stochastic sensors is used for early detection of diabetes. The wider linear concentration range (1.00 × 10^-6-1.00 ng mL^-1) and the lower limit of quantification (1.00 × 10^-6ng mL^-1) were obtained using the disposable stochastic sensors based on Ag-C and Ag-Ag-C, while the highest sensitivity (3.19 × 10⁴ s^-1/μg mL^-1) was recorded using the disposable stochastic sensor based on Ag-Ag-C. The screening methods were fully validated using whole blood samples from confirmed patients, when the recovery of the islet amyloid polypeptide was higher than 98.00%. Graphical abstract.

High Sensitive Immunoelectrochemical Measurement of Lung Cancer Tumor Marker ProGRP Based on TiO₂-Au Nanocomposite

Progastrin-releasing peptide (ProGRP), which is known to be highly specific and sensitive to small cell lung cancer (SCLC), has been proven to be a valuable substitute for neuron-specific enolase in SCLC diagnostics and monitoring, especially in its early stages. The detection of ProGRP levels also facilitates a selection of therapeutic treatments. For the fabrication of our proposed biosensor, titanium (IV) oxide microparticles were first used, followed by dispersing gold nanoparticles into chitosan and immobilizing them onto a carbon paste electrode (CPE) surface. The developed immunosensor exhibits a much higher biosensing performance in comparison with current methods, when it comes to the detection of ProGRP. Therefore, the proposed CPE/TiO₂/(CS+AuNPs)/anti-ProGRP/BSA/ProGRP is excellent for the development of a compact diagnostics apparatus.

Electrochemical Detecting Lung Cancer-Associated Antigen Based on Graphene-Gold Nanocomposite

Using a Au nanoparticle/reduced graphene oxide composite (AuNP-RGO), a signal-enhanced electrochemical immunosensor without label was created to detect neuron-specific enolase (NSE). Furthermore, an environmentally-friendly method was developed to prepare AuNP-RGO by employing chitosan (CS), which served as reducing and stabilizing agent. We showed that the sensitivity of the immunosensor designed in this report was remarkably enhanced because of the numerous active sites in the sensor provided by the AuNP-RGO nanostructure. For the quantification of NSE, the immunosensor exhibited a positive linear relationship with the concentration in the range of 0.1 to 2000 ng/mL, where the limit of the detection was 0.05 ng/mL.
