Abstract
Triphenylamine functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS@TPA) was prepared using the Friedel-Crafts reaction with tris(4-bromophenyl)amine (TPA) as the functional monomer and polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) as the framework. The as-prepared POSS@TPA has a stable structure and accomplished pore performance, allowing for the selective adsorption of Sudan I and result in the fluorescence quenches of POSS@TPA. Thus, the POSS@TPA could be used as sensors to fluorescence detect 0.12-7.4 mg/L Sudan I, with a detection limit of 0.091 mg/L. Moreover, the POSS@TPA have good reuseability can be reused more than 5 cycles after washing. Noteworthily, the response time of POSS@TPA for determination was as short as 1 min. Furthermore, the sensor was effectively used to determine Sudan I in cakes with excellent recoveries (86.4-108.8 %) and relative standard deviations (2.5-4.9 %). The results matched those of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Our work shows great potential in terms of the rapid detection of food safety.

Abstract
Organic electronic materials have advantages over inorganics in terms of versatility, cost, and processability. Recent advancements in organic materials for light-emitting diodes (OLED), field effect transistors (OFET), and photovoltaics have engendered extensive innovation potential on this field. In this research, we focus on synthesizing SQ (silsesquioxane) based oligomers cross-linked by dibromo-aromatic linkers and explore how the cross-linker influences their photophysical properties. Bis-trialkoxy silyl (linker) model compounds were synthesized to compare noncage photophysical properties with the oligomers. Several techniques such as UV/vis, fluorescence, FTIR, and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) have been used to characterize the systems. Time-resolved fluorescence and femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy were used to understand the excited state dynamics of these materials. Studies were carried out to understand the differences between monomers and oligomers and potential energy transfer and charge transfer between the cages and cross-linking chromophores. Transient absorption showed lower energy absorption from the excited states, suggesting short-range communication between moieties. Single photon counting studies have shown distinct lifetime differences between most linkers and cages display possible excitation energy transfer through these materials. Transient absorption anisotropy measurements have shown signatures for excitation energy transfer between linker chromophores for oligomeric compounds. The silsesquioxane (SQ) backbone of the oligomers gives substantial thermal stability as well as solution processability, giving better flexibility for achieving energy transfer between linking chromophores.

Abstract
This study reports a novel series of imidazolium ionic liquids (ILs) based on polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) towards effective detection of metal ions, especially Fe3+ ion. 1H, 13C, 29Si NMR, high resolution mass spectra (HRMS) and Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR) were applied to confirm the structures of the ILs based on POSS (ILs-POSS). The three ILs-POSS were synthesized via a green chemistry approach-a thiol-ene "click" reaction without metal ions as catalysts. Furthermore, the spherical vesicle structures of the ILs-POSS were observed and caused by self-assembly behaviors. Through comprehensive characterizations, these ILs-POSS have performed excellent thermal stabilities and low glass transition temperatures. In addition, we found it very meaningful that the limits of detection (LODs) of the three ILs-POSS for the detection of the Fe3+ ion were 7.91 × 10-8 M, 1.2 × 10-7 M, and 1.2 × 10-7 M, respectively. These data illustrate that these ILs-POSS have great potential for the detection of the Fe3+ ion. In conclusion, this study not only prepared novel ILs-POSS, but also provided new materials as fluorescent sensors in the detection of Fe3+.

Abstract
In this work, we reported the preparation and chemical analysis of novel polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-based porous materials, which were prepared according to Friedel-Crafts chloromethylation by using aluminum chloride as the catalyst and dichloromethane as the solvent. Through controlling the treatment solvent (water or methanol) and kinds of POSS, several materials with different morphologies were conveniently obtained. The chemical structure of porous materials was systematically characterized by Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectra, 29Si Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), 13C NMR, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The samples were further characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) to study their crystallinity, morphology, and thermal properties, respectively. The work systematically demonstrated the chemical structure of the porous materials. Moreover, the advantages and disadvantages of the preparation method and typical properties of the material were evaluated through a comparative analysis with other related research works.

Abstract
Anthracene-conjugated octameric silsesquioxane cages thermodynamically display intramolecular excimer formation, which can be used to identify anions through the change of fluorescence.
Anthracene-conjugated octameric silsesquioxane (AnSQ) cages, prepared via Heck coupling between octavinylsilsesquioxane (OVS) and 9-bromoanthracene, thermodynamically display intramolecular excimer emissions. More importantly, these hosts are sensitive to each anionic guest, thereby resulting in change of anthracene excimer formation, displaying the solvent-dependent fluorescence and allowing us to distinguish up to four ions such as F–, OH–, CN– and PO43– by fluorescence spectroscopy. Depending on the solvent polarity, for example, both F– and CN– quenched the fluorescence emission intensity in THF, but only F– could enhance the fluorescence in all other solvents. The presence of PO43– results in fluorescence enhancements in high polarity solvents such as DMSO, DMF, and acetone, while OH– induces enhancements only in low polarity solvents (e.g. DCM and toluene). A picture of the anion recognizing ability of AnSQ was obtained through principal component analysis (PCA) with NMR and FTIR confirming the presence of host–guest interactions. Computational modeling studies demonstrate the conformation of host–guest complexation and also the change of excimer formation. Detection of F–, CN– and OH– by AnSQ hosts in THF is noticeable with the naked eye, as indicated by strong color changes arising from charge transfer complex formation upon anion addition.

Abstract
One of the most pressing environmental concerns of our age is the escalating level of atmospheric CO2 . Intensive efforts have been made to investigate advanced porous materials, especially porous organic polymers (POPs), as one type of the most promising candidates for carbon capture due to their extremely high porosity, structural diversity, and physicochemical stability. This review provides a critical and in-depth analysis of recent POP research as it pertains to carbon capture. The definitions and terminologies commonly used to evaluate the performance of POPs for carbon capture, including CO2 capacity, enthalpy, selectivity, and regeneration strategies, are summarized. A detailed correlation study between the structural and chemical features of POPs and their adsorption capacities is discussed, mainly focusing on the physical interactions and chemical reactions. Finally, a concise outlook for utilizing POPs for carbon capture is discussed, noting areas in which further work is needed to develop the next-generation POPs for practical applications.

Abstract
Two series of new polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-based fluorescent hybrid porous polymers, HPP-1 and HPP-2, have been prepared by the Heck reaction of octavinylsilsesquioxane with 2,2',7,7'-tetrabromo-9,9'-spirobifluorene and 1,3,6,8-tetrabromopyrene, respectively. Three sets of reaction conditions were employed to assess their effect on fluorescence. These materials exhibit tunable fluorescence from nearly no fluorescence to bright fluorescence both in the solid state and dispersed in ethanol under UV light irradiation by simply altering the reaction conditions. We speculated that the difference may be attributable to the fluorescence quenching induced by Et3 N, P(o-CH3 Ph)3 , and their hydrogen bromide salts employed in the reactions. This finding could give valuable suggestions for the construction of porous polymers with tunable/controllable fluorescence, especially those prepared by Heck and Sonogashira reactions in which these quenchers are used as organic bases or co-catalysts. In addition, the porosities can also be tuned, but different trends in porosity have been found in these two series of polymers, which suggests that various factors should be carefully considered in the preparation of porous polymers with tunable/controllable porosity. Furthermore, HPP-1 c showed moderate CO2 uptake and fluorescence that was efficiently quenched by nitroaromatic explosives, thereby indicating that these materials could be utilized as solid absorbents for the capture and storage of CO2 and as sensing agents for the detection of explosives.
