Abstract
We disclose herein a light-induced Hantzsch ester-initiated aryl and alkyl radical generation protocol from aryl halides (Br and Cl) and alkyl iodides. This method provides access to a wide range of benzo-fused heterocycles and C(sp3)-C(sp3) coupling products. The reductive detosylation reaction has also been demonstrated using the same reaction conditions. Initial mechanism studies provide evidence of the formation of an alkyl radical.

Abstract
This study presents a convenient approach to the synthesis of indole- and benzofuran-based benzylic sulfones using unactivated alkynes containing aryl iodides and sodium sulfinates under visible light irradiation. The procedure involves a sequential series of dehalogenation, carbo-cyclization, and radical sulfonylation. Plausible insights into the reaction mechanism are derived from control experiments, leading to the proposal of a radical cascade reaction pathway.

Abstract
Polymorphism is an exciting feature of chemical systems where a compound can exist in different crystal forms. The present investigation is focused on the two polymorphic forms, triclinic (MSBT) and monoclinic (MSBM), of ethyl 3-iodo-4-((4-methylphenyl)sulfonamido)benzoate prepared from ethyl 4-amino-3-iodobenzoate. The prepared polymorphs were unambiguously confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD) analysis. According to the SC-XRD results, the molecular configurations of both structures are stabilized by intramolecular N-H···I and C-H···O bonding. The crystal packing of MSBT is different as compared to the crystal packing of MSBM because MSBT is crystallized in the triclinic crystal system with the space group P1̅, whereas MSBM is crystallized in the monoclinic crystal system with the space group P21/c. The molecules of MSBT are interlinked in the form of dimers through N-H···O bonding to form R22(8) loops, while the MSBM molecules are connected with each other in the form of an infinite chain through C-H···O bonding. The crystal packing of both compounds is further stabilized by off-set π···π stacking interactions between phenyl rings, which is found stronger in MSBM as compared to in MSBT. Moreover, Hirshfeld surface exploration of the polymorphs was carried out, and the results were compared with the closely related literature structure. Accordingly, the supramolecular assembly of these polymorphs is mainly stabilized by noncovalent interactions or intermolecular interactions. Furthermore, a density functional theory (DFT) study was also carried out, which provided good support for the SC-XRD and Hirshfeld studies, suggesting the formation of both intramolecular and intermolecular interactions for both compounds.

Abstract
A visible light-induced diastereoselective synthesis of trifluoromethylated cyclobutane derivatives is described, consisting of [2+2]-photocycloaddition and water-assisted hydrodebromination by one pot. Quinolinones, isoquinolinones, and coumarins are able to participate in this one-pot process with 1-bromo-1-trifluoromethylethene. In addition, stereodefined trisubstituted trifluoromethylated cyclobutane alcohols, carboxylic acids, and amines can be obtained in a straightforward manner through the ring opening of lactone or lactam without the loss of original high diastereoselectivity given by the water-tristrimethylsilylsilane coordination. The antineoplastic bioactivities of those compounds are also well studied, which exhibit great antineoplastic potential comparable to cisplatin. In the proposed mechanism, thioxanthone (TX) serves as a dual catalyst and a radical chain pathway may be involved in the hydrodebromination process.

Abstract
The effective photoredox-mediated oxidative thiolation and cyclization of N-arylacrylamides with thiols leads to biologically interesting 3-thionated oxindoles through C-S and C-C bond formation. This process represents a straightforward reaction that starts from non-prefunctionalized thiolating reagents. Mechanistic studies demonstrated that the TBHP serves as a key radical initiator with visible-light catalysis.

Abstract
The formation of intramolecular C-N bond represents a powerful strategy in organic transformation as the great importance of N-heterocycles in the fields of natural products and bioactive molecules. This personal account describes the synthesis of cyclic phosphinamidation, benzosultam, benzosulfoximine, phenanthridine and their halogenated compounds through transition-metal-free intramolecular oxidative C-N bond formation. Mechanism study reveals that N-X bond is initially formed under the effect of hypervalent halogen, which is very unstable and easily undergoes thermal or light homolytic cleavage to generate nitrogen radical. Then the nitrogen radical is trapped by the arene to give aryl radical. Rearomatization of aryl radical under the oxidant to provide corresponding N-heterocycle. Under suitable conditions, the N-heterocycles can be further transformed to halogenated N-heterocycles.

Abstract
N-Alkyl-N-(2-(1-arylvinyl)aryl)cinnamamides are converted into natural product inspired scaffolds via iridium photocatalyzed intramolecular [2+2] photocycloaddition. The protocol has a broad substrate scope, whilst operating under mild reaction conditions. Tethering four components forming a trisubstituted cyclobutane core builds rapidly high molecular complexity. Our approach allows the design and synthesis of a variety of tetrahydrocyclobuta[c]quinolin-3(1H)-ones, in yields ranging between 20-99 %, and with excellent regio- and diastereoselectivity. Moreover, it was demonstrated that the intramolecular [2+2]-cycloaddition of 1,7-enynes-after fragmentation of the cyclobutane ring-leads to enyne-metathesis-like products.

Abstract
A variety of N-unprotected 2-amide-substituted indoles were synthesized from readily available furfural-based Ugi adducts in moderate to good yields via palladium-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization of o-iodoanilines bearing furan rings. These reactions involved a cascade sequence consisting of dearomatizing arylation, opening of the furan ring, and deprotection of the N atom. A variety of N-unprotected 2-amide-substituted indoles were synthesized from readily available furfural-based Ugi adducts in moderate to good yields via palladium-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization of o-iodoanilines bearing furan rings.![]()

Abstract
A visible-light-mediated deaminative thioesterification of amino acid derived Katritzky salts with thiobenzoic acid has been developed, which provides a novel synthetic method for the synthesis of α-mercapto acid derivatives under mild conditions. This photoredox catalyst-free generation of alkyl radicals via C-N bond cleavage is enabled by the formation of an electron-donor-acceptor (EDA) complex between the Katritzky salt and thiobenzoic acid anion, which represents a new entry for EDA complex chemistry.

Abstract
A practical palladium-mediated cascade Tsuji-Trost reaction/Heck coupling of N-Ts o-bromoanilines with 4-acetoxy-2-butenonic acid derivatives using a Pd(OAc)2/P( o-tol)3/DIPEA system is described for a straightforward synthesis of indole-3-acetic acid derivatives. This methodology was successfully applied to synthesize various substituted indole/azaindole-3-acetic acid derivatives and Almotriptan, which is a drug for the acute treatment of migraines. Moreover, a plausible cyclization mechanism has been proposed.

Abstract
In this overview, we present our analysis of the future of organic synthesis in Brazil, a highly innovative and strategic area of research which underpins our social and economical progress. Several different topics (automation, catalysis, green chemistry, scalability, methodological studies and total syntheses) were considered to hold promise for the future advance of chemical sciences in Brazil. In order to put it in perspective, contributions from Brazilian laboratories were selected by the citations received and importance for the field and were benchmarked against some of the most important results disclosed by authors worldwide. The picture that emerged reveals a thriving area of research, with new generations of well-trained and productive chemists engaged particularly in the areas of green chemistry and catalysis. In order to fulfill the promise of delivering more efficient and sustainable processes, an integration of the academic and industrial research agendas is to be expected. On the other hand, academic research in automation of chemical processes, a well established topic of investigation in industrial settings, has just recently began in Brazil and more academic laboratories are lining up to contribute. All these areas of research are expected to enable the future development of the almost unchartered field of scalability.

Abstract
In the title indole derivative, C17H15NO4S, the fused dioxolo-indole system is essentially planar [r.m.s. deviation of the 12 fitted atoms = 0.0249 Å] and is effectively perpendicular to the appended 4-tolyl ring, forming a dihedral angle of 89.95 (6)°. Overall, the mol-ecule has the shape of the letter L. In the crystal, supra-molecular layers in the ab plane are formed via weak 4-tolyl-C-H⋯π(C6-ring of indole) and S-O⋯π(1,3-dioxole) contacts. The aforementioned inter-actions along with inter-atomic H⋯H and H⋯O contacts are all shown to make significant contributions to the calculated Hirshfeld surfaces.

Abstract
The combination of visible-light and tris(trimethylsilyl)silane promoting intramolecular reductive cyclization protocol for the synthesis of functionalized indolines and 2,3-dihydrobenzofurans has been developed. The transformations occur in the absence of transition metal and additional photocatalyst. In addition, quantum yield (Φ) was determined and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy was performed to better understand the reaction pathway. The combination of visible-light and tris(trimethylsilyl)silane promoting intramolecular reductive cyclization protocol for the synthesis of functionalized indolines and 2,3-dihydrobenzofurans has been developed.![]()

Abstract
Radical alkynyltrifluoromethylation of alkenes with actylenic triflones has been achieved. This radical chain reaction is initiated by a catalytic amount of an electron-donor-acceptor complex composed of Togni's reagent and N-methylmorpholine. This transformation proceeds under exceptionally mild and operationally simple conditions. A variety of alkenes are compatible in this protocol including aliphatic alkenes, vinyl ethers, enecarbamates, styrenes, and even acrylates, providing diverse β- trifluoromethyl alkynes in good to excellent yields.

Abstract
An efficient and mild fluorination of vinyl azides for the synthesis of α-fluoroketones is described. The mechanistic studies indicated that a single-electron transfer (SET) and a subsequent fluorine atom transfer process could be involved in the reaction.

Abstract
A strategy for cross-electrophile coupling has been developed via the merger of photoredox and transition metal catalysis. In this report, we demonstrate the use of commercially available tris(trimethylsilyl)silane with metallaphotoredox catalysis to efficiently couple alkyl bromides with aryl or heteroaryl bromides in excellent yields. We hypothesize that a photocatalytically generated silyl radical species can perform halogen-atom abstraction to activate alkyl halides as nucleophilic cross-coupling partners. This protocol allows the use of mild yet robust conditions to construct Csp(3)-Csp(2) bonds generically via a unique cross-coupling pathway.
