Defect Engineering in Ce-Based Metal-Organic Frameworks toward Enhanced Catalytic Performance for Hydrogenation of Dicyclopentadiene

Defective metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have shown great potential for catalysis due to abundant active sites and adjustable physical and chemical properties. A series of Ce-based MOFs with different defect contents were synthesized via a modulator-induced defect engineering strategy with the aid of the cell pulverization technique. The effects of modulators on the pore structure, morphology, valence distribution of Ce, and Lewis acidity of Ce-MOF-801 were systematically investigated. Among the different samples studied, the optimal Ce-MOF-801-50eq sample exhibited remarkable catalytic activity for DCPD hydrogenation, achieving a conversion rate of 100%, which is significantly higher compared to other Ce-MOF-801-neq samples as well as the Zr-MOF-801-50eq and Hf-MOF-801-50eq samples. The enhanced catalytic performance of Ce-MOF-801-50eq can be attributed to advantages provided by defect engineering, such as the high specific surface area, proper pore size distribution, abundant unsaturated metal sites, and Ce3+/Ce4+ atom ratio, which have been supported by various characterizations. This study provides important insights into the rational design of Ce-MOFs in the field of catalytic DCPD hydrogenation.

Synthesis of Cycloaliphatic Polyamides via Palladium-Catalyzed Hydroaminocarbonylative Polymerization

Polyamides represent one class of materials that is important in modern society. Because of the numerous potential applications of polyamides in various fields, there is a high demand for new polyamide structures, which necessitates the development of new polymerization methods. Herein, we report a novel and efficient palladium-catalyzed hydroaminocarbonylative polymerization of dienes and diamines for the synthesis of cycloaliphatic polyamides. The method employs readily available starting materials, proceeds in an atom-economic manner, and creates a series of new functional polyamides in high yields and high molecular weights. In contrast with the traditional polyamides based on adipic acid, the cycloaliphatic polyamides have superior thermal resistance, higher glass-transition temperature, and better solubility in common organic solvents, thus probably featuring the merits of high-performance and good processability.

Palladium-Catalyzed Regio- and Stereoselective Hydroaminocarbonylation of Unsymmetrical Internal Alkynes toward α,β-Unsaturated Amides

α,β-Unsaturated amides play a vital role in natural products, pharmaceuticals, organic synthesis, and functional materials. Herein, we disclosed a regio- and stereoselective hydroaminocarbonylation of unsymmetrical internal alkynes via palladium catalysis to synthesize α,β-unsaturated amides. This protocol features excellent regio- and exclusive (E)-stereoselectivity, high atom and step-economy, broad substrate scope, and functional group tolerance.

Copper-catalyzed enantioselective carbonylation toward α-chiral secondary amides

Secondary amides are omnipresent structural motifs in peptides, natural products, pharmaceuticals, and agrochemicals. The copper-catalyzed enantioselective hydroaminocarbonylation of alkenes described in this study provides a direct and practical approach for the construction of α-chiral secondary amides. An electrophilic amine transfer reagent possessing a 4-(dimethylamino)benzoate group was the key to the success. This method also features broad functional group tolerance and proceeds under very mild conditions, affording a set of α-chiral secondary amides in high yields (up to 96% yield) with unprecedented levels of enantioselectivity (up to >99% ee). α,β-Unsaturated secondary amides can also be produced though the method by using alkynes as the substrate.

Copper-Catalyzed Carbonylative Hydroamidation of Styrenes to Branched Amides

Amides are one of the most ubiquitous functional groups in synthetic and medicinal chemistry. Novel and rapid synthesis of amides remains in high demand. In this communication, a general and efficient procedure for branch-selective hydroamidation of vinylarenes with hydroxyamine derivatives enabled by copper catalysis has been developed for the first time. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions and tolerates a broad range of functional groups. Applying a chiral phosphine ligand, an enantioselective variant of this transformation was achieved, affording a variety of chiral α-amides with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99 % ee) and high yields.

Palladium-catalyzed highly regioselective hydroaminocarbonylation of aromatic alkenes to branched amides

Pd(t-Bu₃P)₂ has been successfully identified as an efficient catalyst for the hydroaminocarbonylation of aromatic alkenes to branched amides under relatively mild reaction conditions.

Selective Palladium-Catalyzed Aminocarbonylation of Olefins to Branched Amides

A general and efficient protocol for iso-selective aminocarbonylation of olefins with aliphatic amines has been developed for the first time. Key to the success for this process is the use of a specific 2-phosphino-substituted pyrrole ligand in the presence of PdX₂ (X=halide) as a pre-catalyst. Bulk industrial and functionalized olefins react with various aliphatic amines, including amino-acid derivatives, to give the corresponding branched amides generally in good yields (up to 99 %) and regioselectivities (b/l up to 99:1).

Rhodium-catalyzed hydroaminomethylation of cyclopentadiene

The substance class of amines is highly relevant for chemical and pharmaceutical industries. A one-step rhodium catalyzed direct route from cyclopentadiene to saturated C₆-amines is presented via hydroaminomethylation.
