Abstract
Polyoxometalates (POMs) are known antitumoral, antibacterial, antiviral, and anticancer agents and considered as next-generation metallodrugs. Herein, a new biological functionality in neutral physiological media, where selected mixed-metal POMs are sufficiently stable and able to affect membrane transport of impermeable, hydrophilic, and cationic peptides (heptaarginine, heptalysine, protamine, and polyarginine) is reported. The uptake is observed in both, model membranes as well as cells, and attributed to the superchaotropic properties of the polyoxoanions. In view of the structural diversity of POMs these findings pave the way toward their biomedical application in drug delivery or for cell-biological uptake studies with biological effector molecules or staining agents.

Abstract
Incorporating catalytic units into a crystalline porous matrix represents a facile way to build high-efficiency heterogeneous catalysts, and by rational design of the porous skeleton with appropriate building blocks the catalytic performance can be significantly enhanced for a series of organic transformations owing to the synergistic effect from the multicomponent and confined porous microenvironment around catalytically active sites. Herein, we demonstrate that the design and synthesis of a porous polyoxometalate-based metal-organic framework YL2(H2O)2[CrMo6O18(PET)2]·4H2O (POMOF-1) constructed from Anderson-type [CrMo6O18(PET)2] (PET = pentaerythritol), which can be employed as a multifunctional platform for synthesis of N-containing compounds via selective oxidative coupling with amines. POMOF-1 features microporous 1D channels defined by Y3+ and L, with [CrMo6O18(PET)2] arranged orderly between adjacent Lvia electrostatic interactions. Upon using POMOF-1 as a catalyst and H2O2 as an oxidant, a variety of amines could be effectively converted to value-added amides, imines and azobenzenes via the oxidative cross-coupling with alcohols or homo-coupling. In particular, POMOF-1 showed dramatically improved activity for the N-formylation reaction owing to the synergistic and confinement effect, with the yield of amides up to 95% and 4 times higher than that of homogeneous [CrMo6O18(PET)2]. Meanwhile, the oxidative homo-coupling of arylmethylamines and arylamines can be facilely tuned by adjustment of the amount of oxidant, solvent and additive, affording imines and azobenzenes in high selectivity and yield, respectively. POMOF-1 is robust and can be reused for 5 cycles with little loss of catalytic activity and structural integrity. The work demonstrates that the combination of catalytically active POMs with crystalline porous MOFs holds great potential to build robust and recyclable heterogeneous systems with enhanced activity and selectivity for multifunctional catalysis.

Efficient Diesel Desulfurization by Novel Amphiphilic Polyoxometalate-Based Hybrid Catalyst at Room Temperature. Molecules 2023; 28:molecules28062539. Abstract
Amphiphilic hybrid catalysts were prepared by modifying [SMo12O40]2− with tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB), 1-butyl-3-methylimidazole bromide (BMIMBr) and octadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (ODAB), respectively. The prepared catalysts were characterized by IR, XRD, SEM, TG and XPS. The desulfurization performance of the catalysts was investigated in model oil and actual diesel using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as an oxidant and acetonitrile as an extractant. All catalysts exhibited favorable activity for removing sulfur compounds at room temperature. Dibenzothiophene (DBT) can be nearly completely removed using SMo12O402−-organic catalysts within a short reaction time. For different sulfur compounds, the [TBA]2SMo12O40 catalyst showed a better removal effect than the [BMIM]2SMo12O40 and [ODA]2SMo12O40 catalyst. The [TBA]2SMo12O40 dissolved in extraction solvent could be reused up to five times in an oxidative desulfurization (ODS) cycle with no significant loss of activity. The [BMIM]2SMo12O40 performed as a heterogeneous catalyst able to be recycled from the ODS system and maintained excellent catalytic activity. The catalysts showed a positive desulfurization effect in real diesel treatment. Finally, we described the ODS desulfurization mechanism of DBT using SMo12O402−-organic hybrid catalysts. The amphiphilic hybrid catalyst cation captures DBT, while SMo12O402− reacts with the oxidant H2O2 to produce peroxy-active species. DBT can be oxidized to its sulfone by the action of peroxy-active species to achieve ODS desulfurization.

Abstract
A thorough investigation of two novel hybrid materials, namely, (2,2'-Hbpy)3[PW12O40] and (4,4'-H2bpy)1.5[PW12O40]·1.5H2O built from Keggin phosphotungstic acid (PTA) and bipyridine, describes the impact of bipyridine isomers in their formation and physicochemical properties. The hybrids' formation was confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction, while infrared spectroscopy (IR) proved the polyoxometalate (POM) structural preservation. The stoichiometric composition and thermal stability of the hybrids were solved by thermogravimetric analysis-mass spectrometry, which also revealed newly acquired hydrophobic properties. Raman and IR spectroscopies demonstrated that the POM skeleton units in both hybrids were distorted compared to the POM in PTA, which induced a decrease of their reduction potentials as observed by diffuse reflectance ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (DR-UV-vis). The hybrids' acidity was assessed by ammonia temperature-programmed desorption, which showed no remaining acid sites compared to the strong acidic character of the pristine PTA. The properties of the hybrids were tested in the epoxidation of cyclooctene in the presence of H2O2. The reaction was boosted when the hybrids were pre-activated with H2O2.

Abstract
The degradation of dense non-aqueous phase liquid trichloroethene in low permeability zone is a challenging issue due to limited mass transfer between water-soluble oxidants (i.e., MnO4-) and residual phase trichloroethene and the bypassing of amendments in low permeability zone. This work accomplished trichloroethene oxidation enhancement through coupling viscosity modification by using xanthan with phase transfer of MnO4- by using phase transfer catalyst (PTC). Experiments were conducted by sand columns and 2D-tanks, and results revealed that after ~11.7 g of trichloroethene was injected in each tank, the mass of trichloroethene degradation was 1.3, 5.9, 6.9 and 8.5 g in MnO4-, MnO4- + xanthan, MnO4- + PTC and MnO4- + PTC + xanthan reaction systems, respectively. Combining PTC and xanthan with MnO4- increased the rate of continuous formation of Cl-, reflected in the acceleration of heterogeneous reactions and MnO4- transport enhancement in low permeability zone by PTC and xanthan. Moreover, PTC promoted dissolved Mn (Ⅱ) and Mn (Ⅲ) formation in the process of MnO4- reduction, and thus effectively inhibited MnO2 generation. In conclusion, the results revealed that PTC and xanthan could perform their respective contributions to mass transfer and amendment transport for jointly enhanced the remediation of trichloroethene polluted heterogeneous aquifer.

Abstract
In recent years, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), including N-doped ones (N-CNTs), have received significant attention as supports for the construction of heterogeneous catalysts. In this work, we summarize our progress in the application of (N)-CNTs for immobilization of anionic metal-oxygen clusters or polyoxometalates (POMs) and use of (N)-CNTs-supported POM as catalysts for liquid-phase selective oxidation of organic compounds with the green oxidant–aqueous hydrogen peroxide. We discuss here the main factors, which favor adsorption of POMs on (N)-CNTs and ensure a quasi-molecular dispersion of POM on the surface and their strong attachment to the support. The effects of the POM nature, N-doping of CNTs, acid additives, and other factors on the POM immobilization process and catalytic activity/selectivity of the (N)-CNTs-immobilized POMs are analyzed. Particular attention is drawn to the critical issue of the catalyst stability and reusability. The scope and limitations of the POM/(N)-CNTs catalysts in H2O2-based selective oxidations are discussed.

Abstract
We investigated the catalytic efficacy of silicotungstic acid (H4SiW12O40) polyoxometalate (POM) toward the reaction between furfural and amines that selectively yields trans-N,N-4,5-substituted-diaminocyclopenten-2-ones (trans-DACPs). H4SiW12O40 facilitates the synthesis of a library of trans-DACPs with loadings as low as 0.05 mol %, in open air, without additives, in short times and good to high isolated yields. The protocol was applied to secondary amines as well as to aromatic primary amines with pKb higher than ca. 9. The present catalytic synthetic protocol has an extended substrate scope with high yields and represents, to the best of our knowledge, the first polyoxometalate-driven paradigm as an efficient method to produce cyclopentanone frameworks under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract
Catalytic oxidative desulfurization (ODS) of fuel oils is considered one of the most promising non-hydrodesulfurization technologies due to the advantages of mild reaction conditions, low cost and easy removal of aromatic sulfur compounds. Based on this reason, the preparation of highly efficient ODS catalysts has been a hot research topic in this field. Recently, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted extensive attention due to the advantages involving abundant metal centers, high surface area, rich porosity and varied pore structures. For this, the synthesis and catalytic performance of the ODS catalysts based on MOFs materials have been widely studied. Until now, many research achievements have been obtained along this direction. In this article, we will review the advances in oxidative desulfurization of fuel oils over MOFs-based heterogeneous catalysts. The catalytic ODS performance over various types of catalysts is compared and discussed. The perspectives for future work are proposed in this field.

Abstract
Six quaternary phosphonium salts (QPSs) in combination with phosphotungstic heteropolyacid, H3PW12O40, were tested in the epoxidation of rapeseed oil fatty acid methyl esters with a hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution. The QPSs consisted of trihexyl(tetradecyl)phosphonium [P6], tributyl-tetradecylphosphonium [P4] or tetraoctylphosphonium [P8] cation and different anions—chloride (Cl−), bromide (Br−), tetrafluoroborate (BF4−), bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide (NTf2−), bis(2,4,4-trimethyl-pentyl)phosphinate (Phosf−). The influence of the kind of QPS and temperature on the epoxy number, iodine number, glycol content has been determined. The epoxidation was confirmed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and elemental analysis CHO. Two QPSs with a trihexyltetradecyphosphonium cation—[P6][Fosf] and [P6][Cl]—were selected as the most effective in the studied epoxidation process. The proposed kinetic model takes into consideration the two reactions, namely, epoxidation and epoxy ring opening involving the formation of hydroxyl groups. The rate constants and activation energies for epoxidation fatty acid methyl esters were determined.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Propionic acid as a very valuable chemical is in high demand, and it is industrially produced via the oxo-synthesis of ethylene or ethyl alcohol and via the oxidation of propionaldehyde with oxygen. It is urgent to discover a new preparation method for propionic acid via a green route. Recyclable amino-acid-based organic-inorganic heteropolyoxometalates were first used to high-efficiently catalyse the selective oxidation of 1-propanol to propionic acid with H2O2 as an oxidant. RESULT A series of amino-acid-based heteropoly catalysts using different types of amino acids and heteropoly acids were synthesized, and the experimental results showed proline-based heteropolyphosphatotungstate (ProH)3[PW12O40] exhibited excellent catalytic activity for the selective catalytic oxidation of 1-propanol to propionic acid owing to its high capacity as an oxygen transfer agent and suitable acidity. Under optimized reaction conditions, the conversion of 1-propanol and the selectivity of propionic acid reached 88% and 75%, respectively. Over four cycles, the conversion remained at >80%, and the selectivity was >60%. (ProH)3[PW12O40] was also used to catalyse the oxidations of 1-butanol, 1-pentanol, 1-hexanol, and benzyl alcohol. All the reactions had high conversions, with the corresponding acids being the primary oxidation product. CONCLUSIONS Proline-based heteropolyoxometalate (ProH)3[PW12O40] has been successfully used to catalyse the selective oxidation of primary alcohols to the corresponding carboxylic acids with H2O2 as the oxidant. The new developed catalytic oxidation system is mild, high-efficient, and reliable. This study provides a potential green route for the preparation propionic acid.

Abstract
The world is suffering from chronic water shortage due to the increasing population, water pollution and industrialization. Desalinating saline water offers a rational choice to produce fresh water thus resolving the crisis. Among various kinds of desalination technologies, capacitive deionization (CDI) is of significant potential owing to the facile process, low energy consumption, mild working conditions, easy regeneration, low cost and the absence of secondary pollution. The electrode material is an essential component for desalination performance. The most used electrode material is carbon-based material, which suffers from low desalination capacity (under 15 mg·g−1). However, the desalination of saline water with the CDI method is usually the charging process of a battery or supercapacitor. The electrochemical capacity of battery electrode material is relatively high because of the larger scale of charge transfer due to the redox reaction, thus leading to a larger desalination capacity in the CDI system. A variety of battery materials have been developed due to the urgent demand for energy storage, which increases the choices of CDI electrode materials largely. Sodium-ion battery materials, lithium-ion battery materials, chloride-ion battery materials, conducting polymers, radical polymers, and flow battery electrode materials have appeared in the literature of CDI research, many of which enhanced the deionization performances of CDI, revealing a bright future of integrating battery materials with CDI technology.

Abstract
The energetically viable fabrication of stable and highly efficient solid acid catalysts is one of the key steps in large‐scale transformation processes of biomass resources. Herein, the covalent modification of the classical Dawson polyoxometalate (POMs) with sulfonic acids (‐SO3H) is reported by grafting sulfonic acid groups on the POM's surface followed by oxidation of (3‐mercaptopropyl)trimethoxysilane. The acidity of TBA6‐P2W17‐SO3H (TBA=tetrabutyl ammonium) has been demonstrated by using 31P NMR spectroscopy, clearly indicating the presence of strong Brønsted acid sites. The presence of TBA counterions renders the solid acid catalyst as a promising candidate for phase transfer catalytic processes. The TBA6‐P2W17‐SO3H shows remarkable activity and selectivity, excellent stability, and great substrate compatibility for the esterification of free fatty acids (FFA) with methanol and conversion into biodiesel at 70 °C with >98 % conversion of oleic acid in 20 min. The excellent catalytic performance can be attributed to the formation of a catalytically active emulsion, which results in a uniform catalytic behavior during the reaction, leading to efficient interaction between the substrate and the active sites of the catalyst. Most importantly, the catalyst can be easily recovered and reused without any loss of its catalytic activity owing to its excellent phase transfer properties. This work offers an efficient and cost‐effective strategy for large‐scale biomass conversion applications.

Abstract
Functionalization of vegetable oils (VOs) including edible, non-edible, and waste cooking oil (WCOs) to epoxides (EVOs) is receiving great attention by many researchers from academia and industry because they are renewable, versatile, sustainable, non-toxic, and eco-friendly, and they can partially or totally replace harmful phthalate plasticizers. The epoxidation of VOs on an industrial scale has already been developed by the homogeneous catalytic system using peracids. Due to the drawbacks of this method, other systems including acidic ion exchange resins, polyoxometalates, and enzymes are becoming alternative catalysts for the epoxidation reaction. We have reviewed all these catalytic systems including their benefits and drawbacks, reaction mechanisms, intensification of each system in different ways as well as the physicochemical properties of VOs and EVOs and new findings in recent years. Finally, the current methods including titrimetric methods as well as ATR-FTIR and 1H NMR for determination of conversion, epoxidation, and selectivity of epoxidized vegetable oils (EVOs) are also briefly described.

Abstract
By appropriate substitution, polyoxometalates (POMs) can be modified to be organic-inorganic supramolecules (OISMs) that are nonaqueous or water soluble and form aggregates in solution. Here, we report a new OISM, (TBA)3POM-PPCT, that can self-assemble to form bilayer vesicles controlled by Eu3+ in nonaqueous solution. Dynamic light scattering, transmission and scanning electron microscopy techniques, and atomic force microscopy clearly demonstrated the controllable formation of stable bilayer vesicles with an average hydrodynamic radius of about 510 nm. Because of the coordination between (TBA)3POM-PPCT and Eu3+, the stable vesicles possess fluorescence, determined by studying fluorescence spectra, and show highly selective response to Cu2+, allowing them to function as an ion-detecting platform to Cu2+.

Abstract
Classification of polyoxometalates (POMs) is based on their chemical composition, basically represented by two general formulae: a) [MmOy]p- b) [XxMmOy]q-, where M is the main transition metal, O is the oxygen atom and X can be a non-metal atom such as Si. Additionally, in the most cases, the structure of the polyoxometalates is derived from a combination of octahedral units MO6 with a central metal atom M and the oxygen atoms placed at their corners. In such octahedra, oxygen atoms allow the condensation between two octahedral units, while one oxygen atom (or max. two atoms) makes double bond with the central metal atom and is not shared with other metal atoms within the complex (terminal oxygens). On the other hand, niobium-containing mesoporous silicates contain mainly MO4 tetrahedra and reveal superior activity in heterogeneous catalysis. Thus, the proper coordination of niobium is crucial for the catalytic activity and will be deeply discussed. The similarity in the catalytic behavior of niobium-polyoxometalates and heterogeneous niobium single-site catalysts in selective oxidations will be demonstrated.

Abstract
Polyoxometalate (POM)-based materials of current interest are summarized, and specific types of POM-containing systems are described in which material facilitates multiple complex interactions or catalytic processes. We specifically highlight POM-containing multi-hydrogen-bonding polymers that form gels upon exposure to select organic liquids and simultaneously catalyze hydrolytic or oxidative decontamination, as well as water oxidation catalysts (WOCs) that can be interfaced with light-absorbing photoelectrode materials for photoelectrocatalytic water splitting.
