Abstract
A rapid pathway for the synthesis of various β-phenethylamines from aromatic aldehydes has been developed. Initially, a wide range of 5-aryloxazolidines was prepared via the [3 + 2] cycloaddition reaction of N-methylazomethine ylide derived from sarcosine and paraformaldehyde. The subsequent reduction of 5-aryloxazolidines with triethylsilane in trifluoroacetic acid yields three types of products: N,N-dimethylphenylethanolamines, N,N-dimethylphenethylamines, and tetrahydroisoquinolines, depending on the substituents in the aromatic ring and reaction conditions. Moreover, an additional step of oxazolidine hydrolysis or ring-opening with hydrogen cyanide allowed us to synthesize N-methyl- or N-methyl-N-(cyanomethyl)phenethylamines.

Abstract
A simple and practical method for the construction of 1,3,5-trisubstituted imidazolidine derivatives via [3 + 2] cycloaddition reaction has been developed. This reaction could smoothly proceed between nonstabilized azomethine ylides generated in situ and 2-benzothiazolamines to deliver a wide scope of differently substituted imidazolidines in high yields (up to 98%). The structure of one example was confirmed by X-ray single-crystal structure analysis.

Abstract
An unprecedented 1,3-dipole cycloaddition between acyclic CF3-ketimines and N-benzyl azomethine ylide has been allowed by tungsten catalysis, furnishing a range of novel imidazolidines bearing a trifluoromethylated tetrasubstituted carbon center. This reaction appears as one of rare examples that challenging acyclic CF3-ketimines have been engaged in 1,3-cycloaddition reactions. The capability for gram-scale synthesis and variant derivatizations of cycloaddition adducts illustrates the synthetic potential of this approach. This protocol provides a facile access to a rapidly enlarging pool of motifs with a trifluoromethylated fully substituted carbon.

Abstract
A study of the reactivity of a non-stabilised azomethine ylide, derived from N-(methoxymethyl)-N-(trimethylsilylmethyl)benzylamine, with nitro-substituted isatoic anhydrides was undertaken. N-Methyl-4-nitroisatoic anhydride underwent a 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction exclusively at the isatoic anhydride C1-carbonyl group, followed by decarboxylative rearrangement to yield a benzo-1,3-diazepin-5-one derivative. In contrast, N-methyl-5-nitroisatoic anhydride underwent competing cycloaddition processes to the isatoic anhydride C1-carbonyl group and to the nitro-substituted aromatic ring. The dearomative addition reaction resulted in the formation of novel tetracyclic products.

Abstract
We provide a comprehensive account of the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions of azomethine ylides with carbonyl dipolarophiles. Many different azomethine ylides have been studied, including stabilized and non-stabilized ylides. Of the carbonyl dipolarophiles, aldehydes including formaldehyde are the most studied, although there are now examples of cycloadditions with ketones, ketenes and carboxyl systems, in particular isatoic anhydrides and phthalic anhydrides. Intramolecular cycloadditions with esters can also occur under certain circumstances. The oxazolidine cycloadducts undergo a range of reactions triggered by the ring-opening of the oxazolidine ring system.
