Kinetic Insights into the Antioxidant Effect of Isatin-Thiosemicarbazone in Biodiesel Blends

Biodiesel has several drawbacks, such as being prone to oxidation, having reduced stability, and having limited storage time. Antioxidants compatible with biodiesel are being used to address its drawbacks. Utilizing antioxidants effectively improves the quality of biodiesel. Enhancing the quality of biodiesel for use as a clean energy source benefits both the global economy and ecology. Therefore, we believe that our work will contribute to the advancement of the biodiesel industry worldwide. This study used blends consisting of 20% biodiesel and 80% diesel fuel. Isatin-thiosemicarbazones were tested as additives in blends at a concentration of 3000 parts per million (ppm) using an oxifast device and were compared with the chemical antioxidant Trolox. FT-IR, DSC, and TGA were used to characterize these samples. DSC measured sample crystallization temperatures (Tc). Samples with antioxidants showed decreased values compared to the non-antioxidant diesel sample D100. Several DSC tests were conducted to determine the antioxidant strengths of various samples. The results show that the FT-IR spectrum's antioxidant effect regions grow clearer with antioxidants. The extra antioxidant is effective. Biodiesel's oxidative stability improves with isatin-thiosemicarbazones at varying concentrations. The kinetics of thermal decomposition of isatin-thiosemicarbazones under non-isothermal conditions were determined using the Kissinger, Ozawa, and Boswell techniques. The activation energies of compounds 1 and 2 were calculated as 137-147 kJ mol-1 and 173-183 kJ mol-1, respectively.

Novel N-pyrocatechoyl and N-pyrogalloyl hydrazone antioxidants endowed with cytotoxic and antibacterial activity

Over the years, pharmacological agents bearing antioxidant merits arose as beneficial in the prophylaxis and treatment of various health conditions. Hazardous effects of radical species hyperproduction disrupt normal cell functioning, thus increasing the possibility for the development of various oxidative stress-associated disorders, such as cancer. Contributing to the efforts for efficient antioxidant drug discovery, a thorough in vitro and in silico assessment of antioxidant properties of 14 newly synthesized N-pyrocatechoyl and N-pyrogalloyl hydrazones (N-PYRs) was accomplished. All compounds exhibited excellent antioxidant potency against the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical. The extensive in silico analysis revealed multiple favorable features of N-PYRs to inactivate harmful radical species, which supported the obtained in vitro results. Also, in silico experiments provided insights into the preferable antioxidant pathways. Prompted by these findings, the cytotoxicity effects and the influence on the redox status of cancer HCT-116 cells and healthy fibroblasts MRC-5 were evaluated. These investigations exposed four analogs exhibiting both cytotoxicity and selectivity toward cancer cells. Furthermore, the frequently uncovered antimicrobial potency of hydrazone-type hybrids encouraged investigations on G+ and G- bacterial strains, which revealed the antibacterial potency of several N-PYRs. These findings highlighted the N-PYRs as excellent antioxidant agents endowed with cytotoxic and antibacterial features.

Phytochemical Analysis, Antioxidant Activities In Vitro and In Vivo, and Theoretical Calculation of Different Extracts of Euphorbia fischeriana

Euphorbia fischeriana has a long-standing history of use in traditional medicine for the treatment of tuberculosis diseases. However, the plant's therapeutic potential extends beyond this specific ailment. The present study aimed to investigate the antioxidant properties of Euphorbia fischeriana and lay the groundwork for further research on its potential therapeutic applications. Phytochemical tests were performed on the plant, and 11 types of phytochemicals were identified. Ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry was used to evaluate the active components and antioxidant properties of eight different solvent extracts, ultimately selecting acetone extract for further research. UHPLC-ESI-Q-TOF-MS identified 43 compounds in the acetone extract, and chemical calculations were used to isolate those with high content and antioxidant activity. Three stability experiments confirmed the extract's stability, while cell viability and oral acute toxicity studies demonstrated its relatively low toxicity. In rats, the acetone extract showed significant protective effects against D-galactosamine-induced liver damage through histopathological examination and biochemical analysis. These results suggest that Euphorbia fischeriana's acetone extract has potential in treating diseases related to oxidative imbalances. Therefore, this study highlights the plant's potential therapeutic applications while providing insight into its antioxidant properties.

Evaluation of optimized molecular structure-antimicrobial and antioxidant efficacy relationship of Schiff bases

The synthesis, reactivity, structure, antimicrobial potential, and antioxidant property of some Schiff bases were extensively studied experimentally and theoretically using the B₃LYP method of DFT (density functional theory). Schiff bases formed with the interaction of salicylaldehyde and amino alcohols in a 1:1 molar ratio in ethanol. The physicochemical and spectroscopic investigations decide the plausible structure of these newly synthesized Schiff bases. The computational study can assess the molecular orbitals, chemical reactivity, stability, and molecular electrostatic potential of Schiff bases. The thermodynamic parameters and optimized structures of Schiff bases in the gaseous state investigated by the B₃LYP method of DFT. The evaluation of Schiff bases possesses antimicrobial resistance against gram-negative (Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and (Bacillus cereus)gram-positive bacterial strains as well as fungal strains (Candida albicans and Penicillium chrysogeum). The MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration) of all Schiff bases against Bacillus cereus was found in the range of 250 to 1200 µg. The MIC values of L₁H, L₂H, and L₃H against Penicillium chrysogeum were 400, 600, and 800 µg, respectively, whereas the MIC value of L₁H against Candida albicans was 600 µg. The free radical scavenging activity by the DPPH method was used to access potential antioxidant activity in Schiff bases.

Pyrazolone-type compounds (part II): in vitro and in silico evaluation of antioxidant potential; structure-activity relationship

The pyrazolone class comprises a variety of hybrid compounds displaying diverse biological actions. Although studied for decades, these compounds are still of interest due to their facile chemical transformations. In our previous work, we presented the synthetic route of functionalised pyrazolone derivatives. The presence of pyrazolone structural motif in many drugs, such as edaravone, prompted us to investigate the antioxidant features of the selected compounds. In this paper, we provide an extensive in vitro and in silico description of the antioxidant properties of selected pyrazolone analogues. The obtained in vitro results revealed their great antiradical potency against the DPPH radical (IC₅₀ values in the 2.6-7.8 μM range), where the best results were obtained for analogues bearing a catechol moiety. Density functional theory (DFT) was used to assess their antioxidant capacity from the thermodynamic aspect. Here, good agreement with in vitro results was achieved. DFT was employed for the prediction of the most preferable radical scavenging pathway, also. In polar solvents, the SPLET mechanism is a favourable scavenging route, whereas in nonpolar solvents the HAT is slightly predominant. Furthermore, antioxidant mechanisms were studied in the presence of relevant reactive oxygen species. The obtained values of the reaction enthalpies with the selected radicals revealed that HAT is slightly prevailing in polar solvents, while the SPLET mechanism is dominant in nonpolar solvents. Regarding the well-known antioxidant features of the drug edaravone, these findings represent valuable data for this pyrazolone class and could be used as the basis for further investigations.

Salicylaldehyde Suppresses IgE-Mediated Activation of Mast Cells and Ameliorates Anaphylaxis in Mice

Mast cells (MCs) play key roles in IgE-mediated immunoresponses, including in the protection against parasitic infections and the onset and/or symptoms of allergic diseases. IgE-mediated activation induces MCs to release mediators, including histamine and leukotriene, as an early response, and to produce cytokines as a late phase response. Attempts have been made to identify novel antiallergic compounds from natural materials such as Chinese medicines and food ingredients. We herein screened approximately 60 compounds and identified salicylaldehyde, an aromatic aldehyde isolated from plant essential oils, as an inhibitor of the IgE-mediated activation of MCs. A degranulation assay, flow cytometric analyses, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays revealed that salicylaldehyde inhibited the IgE-mediated degranulation and cytokine expression of bone-marrow-derived MCs (BMMCs). The salicylaldehyde treatment reduced the surface expression level of FcεRI, the high affinity receptor for IgE, on BMMCs, and suppressed the IgE-induced phosphorylation of tyrosine residues in intercellular proteins, possibly Lyn, Syk, and Fyn, in BMMCs. We also examined the effects of salicylaldehyde in vivo using passive anaphylaxis mouse models and found that salicylaldehyde administration significantly enhanced the recovery of a reduced body temperature due to systemic anaphylaxis and markedly suppressed ear swelling, footpad swelling, and vascular permeability in cutaneous anaphylaxis.

Evaluation of antioxidant and cytotoxic properties of phenolic N-acylhydrazones: structure-activity relationship

Cancer is still a relentless public health issue. Particularly, colorectal cancer is the third most prevalent cancer in men and the second in women. Moreover, cancer development and growth are associated with various cell disorders, such as oxidative stress and inflammation. The quest for efficient therapeutics is a challenging task, especially when it comes to achieving both cytotoxicity and selectivity. Herein, five series of phenolic N-acylhydrazones were synthesized and evaluated for their antioxidant potency, as well as their influence on HCT-116 and MRC-5 cells viability. Among 40 examined analogues, 20 of them expressed antioxidant activity against the DPPH radical. Furthermore, density functional theory was employed to estimate the antioxidant potency of the selected analogues from the thermodynamical aspect, as well as the preferable free-radical scavenging pathway. Cytotoxicity assay exposed enhanced selectivity of a number of analogues toward cancer cells. The structure-activity analysis revealed the impact of the type and position of the functional groups on both cell viability and selectivity toward cancer cells.

Antioxidant and cytotoxic activities of selected salicylidene imines: experimental and computational study

Selected salicylidene imines were evaluated for their antioxidant and cytotoxic potentials. Several of them exerted potent scavenging capacity towards ABTS radical and hydrogen peroxide. The insight into the preferable antioxidative mechanism was reached employing density functional theory. In the absence of free radicals, the SPLET mechanism is dominant in polar surroundings, while HAT is prevailing in a non-polar environment. The results obtained for the reactions of the most active compounds with some medically relevant radicals pointed out competition between HAT and SPLET mechanisms. The assessment of their cytotoxic properties revealed inhibition of ER-a human breast adenocarcinoma cells or estrogen-independent prostate cancer cells. Molecular docking study with the cyclooxygenase (COX) 2 enzyme was performed to examine the most probable bioactive conformations and possible interactions between the tested derivatives and COX-2 binding pocket.

Photophysical, photostability, and ROS generation properties of new trifluoromethylated quinoline-phenol Schiff bases

A new series of ten examples of Schiff bases, namely (E)-2-(((2-alkyl(aryl/heteroaryl)-4-(trifluoromethyl)quinolin-6-yl)imino)methyl)phenols 3, was easily synthesized with yields of up to 91% from the reactions involving a series of 2-(R-substituted) 6-amino-4-(trifluoromethyl)quinolines 1 and 4(5)-R¹-substituted salicylaldehydes 2 - in which alkyl/aryl/heteroaryl for 2-R-substituents are Me, Ph, 4-MeC₆H₄, 4-FC₆H₄, 4-NO₂C₆H₄, and 2-furyl, and R¹-substituents are 5-NEt₂, 5-OCH₃, 4-Br, and 4-NO₂. Complementarily, the Schiff bases showed low to good quantum fluorescence yield values in CHCl₃ (Φ_f = 0.12-0.80), DMSO (Φ_f = 0.20-0.75) and MeOH (Φ_f = 0.13-0.85). Higher values of Stokes shifts (SS) were observed in more polar solvents (DMSO; 65-150 nm and MeOH; 65-130 nm) than in CHCl₃ (59-85 nm). Compounds 3 presented good stability under white-LED irradiation conditions and moderate ROS generation properties were observed.

The reactivity of neurotransmitters and their metabolites towards various nitrogen-centered radicals: Experimental, theoretical, and biotoxicity evaluation

In the past few years, there has been a certain interest in nitrogen-centered radicals, biologically important radicals that play a vital role in various processes and constitute many important biological molecules. In this paper, there was an attempt to bridge a gap in the literature that concerns the antiradical potency of monoamine neurotransmitters (dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine) and their metabolites towards these radicals. The most probable radical quenching mechanism was determined for each radical out of three common mechanisms, namely Hydrogen Atom Transfer (HAT), Single Electron Transfer followed by the Proton Transfer (SET-PT), and Sequential Proton Loss Electron Transfer (SPLET). Marcus' theory was then used to determine the reaction rates for the electron transfer process. SPLET was the most probable mechanism for both reactions with the aminyl and hydrazyl radicals, while HAT and SPLET were plausible mechanisms for reactions with the imidazolyl radical. Special emphasis was put on the investigation of the substituent effect on the preferred mechanism. The necessity of both thermodynamic and kinetic parameters for the comparison of the antiradical potency of compounds was discussed. The same methodology was applied for the theoretical investigation of the reactivity towards DPPH^⦁, a member of the hydrazyl radicals. An ecotoxicity analysis was performed to assess the impact the investigated radicals have on the ecosystem. Except for histidine, every other neutral form was either toxic or highly toxic to some of the analyzed marine organisms.

Synthesis, potential antitumor activity, cell cycle analysis, and multitarget mechanisms of novel hydrazones incorporating a 4-methylsulfonylbenzene scaffold: a molecular docking study

Hydrazone is a bioactive pharmacophore that can be used to design antitumor agents. We synthesised a series of hydrazones (compounds 4–24) incorporating a 4-methylsulfonylbenzene scaffold and analysed their potential antitumor activity. Compounds 6, 9, 16, and 20 had the most antitumor activity with a positive cytotoxic effect (PCE) of 52/59, 27/59, 59/59, and 59/59, respectively, while compounds 5, 10, 14, 15, 18, and 19 had a moderate antitumor activity with a PCE of 11/59–14/59. Compound 20 was the most active and had a mean 50% cell growth inhibition (GI₅₀) of 0.26 µM. Compounds 9 and 20 showed the highest inhibitory activity against COX-2, with a half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC₅₀) of 2.97 and 6.94 μM, respectively. Compounds 16 and 20 significantly inhibited EGFR (IC₅₀ = 0.2 and 0.19 μM, respectively) and HER2 (IC₅₀ = 0.13 and 0.07 μM, respectively). Molecular docking studies of derivatives 9, 16, and 20 into the binding sites of COX-2, EGFR, and HER2 were carried out to explore the interaction mode and the structural requirements for antitumor activity.

Green One-Pot Synthesis of Coumarin-Hydroxybenzohydrazide Hybrids and Their Antioxidant Potency

Compounds from the plant world that possess antioxidant abilities are of special importance for the food and pharmaceutical industry. Coumarins are a large, widely distributed group of natural compounds, usually found in plants, often with good antioxidant capacity. The coumarin-hydroxybenzohydrazide derivatives were synthesized using a green, one-pot protocol. This procedure includes the use of an environmentally benign mixture (vinegar and ethanol) as a catalyst and solvent, as well as very easy isolation of the desired products. The obtained compounds were structurally characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy. The purity of all compounds was determined by HPLC and by elemental microanalysis. In addition, these compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antioxidant activity. Mechanisms of antioxidative activity were theoretically investigated by the density functional theory approach and the calculated values of various thermodynamic parameters, such as bond dissociation enthalpy, proton affinity, frontier molecular orbitals, and ionization potential. In silico calculations indicated that hydrogen atom transfer and sequential proton loss-electron transfer reaction mechanisms are probable, in non-polar and polar solvents respectively. Additionally, it was found that the single-electron transfer followed by proton transfer was not an operative mechanism in either solvent. The conducted tests indicate the excellent antioxidant activity, as well as the low potential toxicity, of the investigated compounds, which makes them good candidates for potential use in food chemistry.

Synthesis of new allylidene amino phenol-containing Schiff bases and metal complex formation using trimethinium salts

An efficient route for the synthesis of novel Schiff bases from the condensation reaction of 2-substituted 1,3-bis(dimethylamino)-trimethinium salts with diverse aminophenols in the presence of triethylamine in EtOH at reflux is described. Complexes of transition metals with Schiff base ligand (L) 3c, having the donor atom set N₂O₂, were studied. The ultraviolet spectral behavior of the complexes in DMSO was investigated and the λ_max of these compounds was examined. The structure of the new compounds was confirmed based on their spectral data from IR, ¹H NMR and ¹³C NMR, mass spectra, and elemental analysis.

Microwave assisted synthesis, experimental and theoretical characterization and antibacterial activity screening of novel azomethine compounds containing thiophene and aminophenol functionality

Eight new azomethine compounds (3a-3h) containing thiophene and aminophenol functionality were synthesized in excellent yields by using conventional heating and microwave assisted synthesis methods. The structures of newly synthesized compounds were characterized by spectroscopic techniques such as UV-Vis, FTIR, ¹H and ¹³C NMR and elemental analysis. UV-Vis and ¹H NMR results show that all compounds prefer the phenol-imine tautomer form in solvent media. The chemical structure of 3a, 3b and 3g was also confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction method. The molecular conformations of 3a, 3b and 3g are stabilized by an N⁺-H⋯O^- type intramolecular hydrogen bond in zwitterionic form in the crystalline solid state. The optimized molecular structures, ¹H and ¹³C NMR chemical shift values, UV-Vis spectroscopic parameters, HOMO-LUMO energies, Mulliken (MPA) and natural (NBO) atomic charges, Natural bond orbitals (NBO), molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) maps and solvent accessible surfaces (SASs) for 3a-3h were calculated by using DFT/B3LYP/6-311G(2d,p) approach. The theoretical spectroscopic features obtained by DFT calculations show a very good agreement with the experimental data. In addition, the synthesized compounds (3a-3h) were screened for their antibacterial activities against Bacillus cereus (NRRL-B3711), Bacillus subtilis (NRRL-B4378), Escherichia coli (NRRL B-3008), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC-6538) and Salmonella typhimurium (ATCC-13311). The results show that investigated compounds have either moderately active, slightly active or inactive among the tested microorganisms. 3a exhibited the stronger antibacterial activity against all test bacteria than other compounds. It also has been observed that compounds with relatively low HOMO-LUMO energy gaps exhibit better antibacterial effects.

Phenolic betalain as antioxidants: meta means more

Betalains are phytochemicals of nutraceutical importance that emerged as potent antioxidants, preventing radical chain propagation and the deleterious health effects of oxidative stress. However, despite the wide application of betalains as color additives in products for human consumption, little is known about the relationship between their structure and antioxidant potential. Here we investigate the mechanism of antioxidant action of three regioisomeric phenolic betalains and show that the meta isomer has higher antiradical capacity than most natural betalains, anthocyanins and flavonoids. Structural and pH effects on redox and antiradical properties were investigated and the results are rationalized in light of quantum chemical calculations. Our results demonstrate that hydrogen atom transfer/proton-coupled electron transfer or sequential proton loss electron transfer mechanisms are plausible to explain the radical chain breaking properties of phenolic betalains in water. Furthermore, mesomeric effects are responsible for the stabilization of the resulting radical phenolic betalains. These findings are useful for the design of biocompatible antioxidants and for the development of novel additives for functional foods and cosmetics with high antioxidant potential.

Efficacy of Novel Schiff base Derivatives as Antifungal Compounds in Combination with Approved Drugs Against Candida Albicans

BACKGROUND

The increasing incidence of fungal infections, especially caused by Candida albicans, and their increasing drug resistance has drastically increased in recent years. Therefore, not only new drugs but also alternative treatment strategies are promptly required.

METHODS

We previously reported on the synergistic interaction of some azole and non-azole compounds with fluconazole for combination antifungal therapy. In this study, we synthesized some non-azole Schiff-base derivatives and evaluated their antifungal activity profile alone and in combination with the most commonly used antifungal drugs- fluconazole (FLC) and amphotericin B (AmB) against four drug susceptible, three FLC resistant and three AmB resistant clinically isolated Candida albicans strains. To further analyze the mechanism of antifungal action of these compounds, we quantified total sterol contents in FLC-susceptible and resistant C. albicans isolates.

RESULTS

A pyrimidine ring-containing derivative SB5 showed the most potent antifungal activity against all the tested strains. After combining these compounds with FLC and AmB, 76% combinations were either synergistic or additive while as the rest of the combinations were indifferent. Interestingly, none of the combinations was antagonistic, either with FLC or AmB. Results interpreted from fractional inhibitory concentration index (FICI) and isobolograms revealed 4-10-fold reduction in MIC values for synergistic combinations. These compounds also inhibit ergosterol biosynthesis in a concentration-dependent manner, supported by the results from docking studies.

CONCLUSION

The results of the studies conducted advocate the potential of these compounds as new antifungal drugs. However, further studies are required to understand the other mechanisms and in vivo efficacy and toxicity of these compounds.

Rationale on the High Radical Scavenging Capacity of Betalains

Betalains are water-soluble natural pigments of increasing importance as antioxidants for pharmaceutical use. Although non-phenolic betalains have lower capacity to scavenge radicals compared to their phenolic analogues, both classes perform well as antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents in vivo. Here we show that meta-hydroxyphenyl betalain (m-OH-pBeet) and phenylbetalain (pBeet) show higher radical scavenging capacity compared to their N-methyl iminium analogues, in which proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) from the imine nitrogen atom is precluded. The 1,7-diazaheptamethinium system was found to be essential for the high radical scavenging capacity of betalains and concerted PCET is the most thermodynamically favorable pathway for their one-electron oxidation. The results provide useful insights for the design of nature-derived redox mediators based on the betalain scaffold.

Molecular Investigations of the Newly Synthesized Azomethines as Antioxidants: Theoretical and Experimental Studies

BACKGROUND

In this study, the antioxidant property of new synthesized azomethins has been investigated as theoretical and experimental.

METHODS AND RESULTS

Density functional theory (DFT) was employed to investigate the Bond Dissociation Enthalpy (BDE), Mulliken Charges, NBO analysis, Ionization Potential (IP), Electron Affinities (EA), HOMO and LUMO energies, Hardness (η), Softness (S), Electronegativity (µ), Electrophilic Index (ω), Electron Donating Power (ω-), Electron Accepting Power (ω+) and Energy Gap (Eg) in order to deduce scavenging action of the two new synthesized azomethines (FD-1 and FD-2). Spin density calculations and NBO analysis were also carried out to understand the antioxidant activity mechanism. Comparison of BDE of FD-1 and FD-2 indicate the weal antioxidant potential of these structures.

CONCLUSION

FD-1 and FD-2 have very high antioxidant potential due to the planarity and formation of intramolecular hydrogen bonds.

Antiradical activity of catecholamines and metabolites of dopamine: theoretical and experimental study

The importance of molecules with antiradical potency that are produced in the human body has significantly increased. Among others, neurotransmitters and their metabolites act as the first line of defense against oxidative stress in the peripheral endocrine and the central nervous systems. Dopamine (DO), epinephrine (EP), norepinephrine (NE), l-DOPA, catechol, and three metabolites of dopamine (3-methoxytyramine (3-MT), homovanillic acid (HO), and 3,4-dihydrophenylacetic acid (DOPAC)) were investigated for their antiradical potency via computational methods and DPPH assay. Density functional theory calculations were used to determine the most probable reaction mechanism based on the thermodynamic parameters. These results suggested that hydrogen atom transfer (HAT)/proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) and sequential proton loss electron transfer (SPLET) mechanisms are preferable in polar solvents. Several techniques were employed to differentiate between HAT and PCET mechanisms via examination of the transition state structures. Kinetic studies of HAT/PCET and electron transfer (ET) reactions, the second step of SPLET, have proven that ET is much faster for an order of 10⁵-10⁶. Based on this, it was concluded that SPLET was the dominant mechanism for the antiradical activity towards DPPH radicals in polar solvents. The findings suggest that all the investigated molecules can be classified as excellent antiradical scavengers, except for 3-MT and homovanillic acid.

Investigation of the antioxidant and radical scavenging activities of some phenolic Schiff bases with different free radicals

The antioxidant properties of some phenolic Schiff bases in the presence of different reactive particles such as (•)OH, (•)OOH, (CH2=CH-O-O(•)), and (-•)O2 were investigated. The thermodynamic values, ΔH BDE, ΔH IP, and ΔH PA, were used for this purpose. Three possible mechanisms for transfer of hydrogen atom, concerted proton-electron transfer (CPET), single electron transfer followed by proton transfer (SET-PT), and sequential proton loss electron transfer (SPLET) were considered. These mechanisms were tested in solvents of different polarity. On the basis of the obtained results it was shown that SET-PT antioxidant mechanism can be the dominant mechanism when Schiff bases react with radical cation, while SPLET and CPET are competitive mechanisms for radical scavenging of hydroxy radical in all solvents under investigation. Examined Schiff bases react with the peroxy radicals via SPLET mechanism in polar and nonpolar solvents. The superoxide radical anion reacts with these Schiff bases very slowly.

Chelate N,O-palladium(ii) complexes: synthesis, characterization and biological activity

The structural characterization, cytotoxic and prooxidative activities of four chelate Pd(ii) complexes were examined. Complexes Pd-1 and Pd-6 showed the most significant cytotoxic and prooxidative effects on HCT-116 and MDA-MB-231 cancer cell lines.
