Abstract
In this work, thermoreversible poly(trimethylene carbonate) (PTMC) based networks with different crosslinking densities were obtained by Diels-Alder (DA) reaction between furan-functionalized PTMC precursors and a bismaleimide. Furan-grafted PTMC with various functionalities determined by 1H-NMR analyses were prepared from telechelic PTMC oligomer, glycerol, 4,4'-methylenebis(cyclohexyl isocyanate) (H12MDI) and furfuryl alcohol. The formation of network structures by DA reaction between furan and maleimide groups were proved by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Although both exo and endo DA adduct forms exist, the thermally more stable exo form dominates. The thermoreversibility of networks was evidenced by FT-IR, solubility, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and rheology experiments at different temperatures. By increasing furan functionality or node concentration, denser and stiffer networks could be formed with higher Young's modulus and true stress at break in tensile tests, as well as higher crossover temperature, which indicates a nominal transition from elastic behavior to viscous state. The disruption of networks was found to occur in high temperature ranges from 130 to 160 °C, depending on their crosslinking density.

Abstract
The actuation and energy-harvesting performance of dielectric elastomers are strongly related to their intrinsic electrical and mechanical properties. For future resilient smart transducers, a fast actuation response, efficient energy-harvesting performance, and mechanical robustness are key requirements. In this work, we demonstrate that poly(styrene-butadiene-styrene) (SBS) can be converted into a self-healing dielectric elastomer with high permittivity and low dielectric loss, which can be deformed to large mechanical strains; these are key requirements for actuation and energy-harvesting applications. Using a one-step click reaction at room temperature for 20 min, methyl-3-mercaptopropionate (M3M) was grafted to SBS and reached 95.2% of grafting ratios. The resultant M3M-SBS can be deformed to a high mechanical strain of 1000%, with a relative permittivity of εr = 7.5 and a low tan δ = 0.03. When used in a dielectric actuator, it can provide 9.2% strain at an electric field of 39.5 MV m-1 and can also generate an energy density of 11 mJ g-1 from energy harvesting. After being subjected to mechanical damage, the self-healed elastomer can recover 44% of its breakdown strength during energy harvesting. This work demonstrates a facile route to produce self-healing, high permittivity, and low dielectric loss elastomers for both actuation and energy harvesting, which is applicable to a wide range of diene elastomer systems.

Abstract
We report here a method for the synthesis of a unique hybrid gel system for the sustained delivery of P2X7 receptor (P2X7R) antagonist. P2X7R has been reported as a key mediator in inflammatory processes and controlled delivery of this molecule would be critical for the treatment of inflammatory arthritis. The hybrid gel designed here for the sustained delivery of P2X7R antagonists is based on crosslinked hydrophobic styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) polymer as a continuous network, where hydrogel particles prepared with hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) were embedded into this system. PEG hydrogel particle-incorporated SBS gels were characterized through electron microscopy, water contact angle observations, and strong mechanical properties were confirmed through nanoindentation measurements. The release of P2X7R antagonist from these hybrid hydrogel-elastomer system demonstrated a sustained drug release profile up to 28 days at physiological pH, which was not observed in earlier reports. We obtained drug release percentages ranging from 49.72% to 93.04% which indicated the tunability of release through SBS crosslinking and hydrophilic/hydrophobic nature of SBS. This tunability is significant to achieve simultaneous improvements in drug efficacy with reduced side effects. CellTiter-Glo luminescence measurements using human kidney cells revealed that these networks are non-toxic and highly biocompatible with percent cell viabilities of higher than 85%. The approach presented here with crosslinked, amphiphilic and elastic SBS gel systems is not only promising for extended release of P2X7R antagonist but could also allow for incorporation of different molecules so that simultaneous/sequential and extended release profiles for therapeutic molecules could be achieved. We report here a method for the synthesis of a unique hybrid gel system for the sustained delivery of P2X7 receptor (P2X7R) antagonist.![]()

Abstract
Pristine carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were activated to exhibit Diels-Alder (DA) reactivity in a polymer matrix, which was modified with monomers containing furan groups. The DA-active polymer matrix was transferred into a dynamic reversible cross-linked inorganic-organic network via a Diels-Alder reaction with CNTs, where pristine CNTs were used as dienophile chemicals and furan-modified SBS acted as the macromolecular diene. In this system, the mechanical properties as well as resilience and solvent resistance were greatly improved even with the presence of only 1 wt % CNTs. Meanwhile, the hybrids retained recyclability and exhibited some smart behaviors, including self-healing and reprogrammable shape memory properties. Furthermore, due to the photothermal effect of CNTs, a retro-Diels-Alder (rDA) reaction was activated under laser irradiation, and healing of a crack on the hybrid surface was demonstrated in approximately 10 s with almost complete recovery of the mechanical properties. Such fast and efficient self-healing performance provides a new concept in designing self-healing nanocomposites with tunable structures and mechanical properties. Furthermore, the DA and rDA reactions could be combined to reprogram the shape memory behavior under laser irradiation or thermal treatment, wherein the temporary shape of the sample could be transferred to a permanent shape via the rDA reaction at high temperature.

Abstract
Poly(urea-urethane) thermosets containing the 1-tert-butylethylurea (TBEU) structure feature a reversible dissociation/association process of their covalent linkages under mild conditions. Unlike conventional thermosets, TBEU-based poly(urea-urethane) thermosets maintain their malleability after curing. Under high temperature (100 °C) and applied pressure (300 kPa), ground TBEU thermoset powder can be remolded to bulk after 20 min.
