Hydrothermal Synthesis of Nitrogen, Boron Co-Doped Graphene with Enhanced Electro-Catalytic Activity for Cymoxanil Detection

A sample of nitrogen and boron co-doped graphene (NB-Gr) was obtained by the hydrothermal method using urea and boric acid as doping sources. According to XRD analysis, the NB-Gr sample was formed by five-layer graphene. In addition, the XPS analysis confirmed the nitrogen and boron co-doping of the graphene sample. After synthesis, the investigation of the electro-catalytic properties of the bare (GC) and graphene-modified electrode (NB-Gr/GC) towards cymoxanil detection (CYM) was performed. Significant differences between the two electrodes were noticed. In the first case (GC) the peak current modulus was small (1.12 × 10-5 A) and appeared in the region of negative potentials (-0.9 V). In contrast, when NB-Gr was present on top of the GC electrode it promoted the transfer of electrons, leading to a large peak current increase (1.65 × 10-5 A) and a positive shift of the peak potential (-0.75 V). The NB-Gr/GC electrode was also tested for its ability to detect cymoxanil from a commercial fungicide (CURZATE MANOX) by the standard addition method, giving a recovery of 99%.

Phthalocyanine Modified Electrodes in Electrochemical Analysis

Phthalocyanines are aromatic or macrocyclic organic compounds and attract great attention due to their numerous properties. They have many high-tech applications in different areas of the industry such as dyestuffs, thermal printing screens, photovoltaic solar cells, membrane catalytic reactors, semiconductor materials and gas sensors. In the last decade, electrochemical sensor studies have accelerated with the catalytic lighting. It plays a dominant role in the development and implementation of new generation sensors. The aim of this study is to review the electrochemical methods based on electrode modification with phthalocyanines and to shed light on new application areas of phthalocyanines. The focal point was based on the sensor applications of phthalocyanines in the determination of drugs, pesticides, organic materials and metals etc. by electrochemical methods. Experimental conditions and some validation parameters of the sensor applications such as metal phthalocyanine types, indicator electrodes, selectivity, working ranges, detection limits, and analytical applications were discussed. Consequently, this is the first review dealing with the applications of phthalocyanines in electrochemical sensors for the sensitive determination of analytes in a variety of matrices.

Advances in sensing and biosensing of bisphenols: A review

Bisphenols (BPs) are well known endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) that cause adverse effects on the environment, biotic life and human health. BPs have been studied extensively because of an increasing concern for the safety of the environment and for human health. They are major raw materials for manufacturing polycarbonates, thermal papers and epoxy resins and are considered hazardous environmental contaminants. A vast array of sensors and biosensors have been developed for the sensitive screening of BPs based on carbon nanomaterials (carbon nanotubes, fullerenes, graphene and graphene oxide), quantum dots, metal and metal oxide nanocomposites, polymer nanocomposites, metal organic frameworks, ionic liquids and molecularly imprinted polymers. This review is devoted mainly to a variety of sensitive, selective and reliable sensing and biosensing methods for the detection of BPs using electrochemistry, fluorescence, colorimetry, surface plasmon resonance, luminescence, ELISAs, circular dichroism, resonance Rayleigh scattering and adsorption techniques in plastic products, food samples, food packaging, industrial wastes, pharmaceutical products, human body fluids and many other matrices. It summarizes the advances in sensing and biosensing methods for the detection of BPs since 2010. Furthermore, the article discusses challenges and future perspectives in the development of novel sensing methods for the detection of BP analogs.

Preconcentration of bisphenols by using calix[4]arene derivatives modified porous polymer monolith coupled with HPLC

A functionalized calix[4]arene (alkenyl@C[4]A) was introduced into the poly(butyl methacrylate-ethylene dimethacrylate) monolith inside a capillary to prepare a polymer monolith microextraction (PMME) material (poly(BMA-alkenyl@C[4]A-EDMA)).
