Abstract
The present study investigated the removal of malachite green dye from aquifers by means of microalgae-derived mesoporous diatom biosilica. The various process variables (dye concentration, pH, and adsorbent dose) influencing the removal of the dye were optimized and their interactive effects on the removal efficiency were explored by response surface methodology. The pH of the solution (pH = 5.26) was found to be the most dominating among other tested variables. The Langmuir isotherm (R2 = 0.995) best fitted the equilibrium adsorption data with an adsorption capacity of 40.7 mg/g at 323 K and pseudo-second-order model (R2 = 0.983) best elucidated the rate of dye removal (10.6 mg/g). The underlying mechanism of adsorption was investigated by Weber-Morris and Boyd models and results revealed that the film diffusion governed the overall adsorption process. The theoretical investigations on the dye structure using DFT-based chemical reactivity descriptors indicated that malachite green cations are electrophilic, reactive and possess the ability to accept electrons, and are strongly adsorbed on the surface of diatom biosilica. Also, the Fukui function analysis proposed the favorable adsorption sites available on the adsorbent surface.

Abstract
The effectiveness of a copper(II) complex with a Schiff base derived from 2-amino-4-phenyl-5-methylthiazole and salicylaldehyde (APMS) as a corrosion inhibitor for XC18 steel in an HCl solution was investigated. Experimental findings indicated a slight negative correlation between inhibition efficiencies in 1 M HCl and temperature but a positive correlation with both inhibitor concentration and immersion time, respectively. The weight loss measurement revealed that APMS achieved a maximum inhibition rate of 92.07% at 303 K. A fitting analysis demonstrated that APMS adheres to the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The electrochemical results revealed an enhanced inhibitive performance of APMS, with the efficiency increasing as concentrations increased, ultimately reaching a peak of 94.47% at 5 × 10-3 mol L-1. Potentiodynamic polarization measurements revealed that APMS acted as a mixed-type inhibitor without affecting the corrosion mechanism. Scanning electron microscopy investigations of the metal surfaces corroborated the presence of an adsorbed organic layer. Advanced theoretical calculations utilizing density functional theory and first-principles density-functional tight-binding were conducted to gain insights into the behavior of APMS on the metal surface. APMS derives its advantages from crucial inter- and intramolecular interactions, resulting in the formation of a resilient adsorption layer, in line with the experimental findings. It is found that the presence of the APMS-based inhibitor exhibits a significant synergistic corrosion inhibition effect. The current study offers a design direction for enhancing the structural characteristics of Schiff base metal complexes, laying the groundwork for multifunctional frameworks to minimize corrosion rates with considerations for real-world use and cost-efficiency. The ability to replace harmful, expensive constituents with sustainable, and cost-effective organic alternatives represents a significant outcome of this study.

Abstract
Industries today place a high premium on environmentally friendly supplies that may effectively inhibit metal dissolution at a reasonable cost. Hence, in this paper, we assessed the corrosion inhibition effectiveness of the Thiazole derivative namely, 2, 2-Dithio Bisbenzothiazole (DBBT) against mild steel (MS) corrosion in 1 M HCl. Several experimental approaches, including gravimetric analysis, potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and surface exploration using scanning electron/atomic force microscopy (SEM/AFM) and contact angle (CA), were utilized to conduct the measurements. In 1 M HCl corrosive medium at 298 K in the subsistence of 800 ppm of DBBT, this experiment indicated DBBT as an environment-friendly and sustainable corrosion inhibitor (CI) for MS, demonstrating an inhibition efficiency (IE %) of 97.71%. To deliver a deeper knowledge of the mechanism behind inhibitive behavior, the calculated thermodynamic and activation characteristics were applied. The calculated Gibbs free energy values indicated that the CI interacted physically and chemically with the MS surface, validating physio-chemical adsorption. The findings of the EIS research revealed that an upsurge in the doses of the CI is escorted by an upsurge in polarization resistance (Rp) from (88.05 → 504.04) Ωcm2, and a diminution in double layer capacitance (Cdl) from (97.46 → 46.33) μFcm-2 at (50 → 800) ppm respectively, affirming the inhibitive potential of DBBT. Additionally, the greatest displacement in Ecorr value being 76.13 mV < 85 mV, indicating that DBBT act as a mixed-form CI. To study the further impacts of DBBT on the inhibition capabilities of the compound under investigation, density functional theory (DFT) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation were employed. Chemical and electrochemical approaches are in agreement with the computational analysis indicating DBBT is the most efficient CI.

Abstract
Recently, 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid (MUA) molecule has attracted attention as a promising passivation agent of Ag nanowire (NW) network electrode for corrosion inhibition, but the underneath mechanism has not been elaborated. In this work, we investigate adsorption of MUA molecule on Ag(1 0 0) and Ag(1 1 1) surface, adsorption of air gas molecules of H2O, H2S and O2 on MUA molecular end surface, and their penetrations into the Ag surface using the first-principles calculations. Our calculations reveal that the MUA molecule is strongly bound to the Ag surface with the binding energies ranging from -0.47 to -2.06 eV and the Ag-S bond lengths of 2.68-2.97 Å by Lewis acid-base reaction. Furthermore, we find attractive interactions between the gas molecules and the MUA@Ag complexes upon their adsorptions and calculate activation barriers for their migrations from the outermost end of the complexes to the top of Ag surface. It is found that the penetrations of H2O and H2S are more difficult than the O2 penetration due to their higher activation barriers, while the O2 penetration is still difficult, confirming the corrosion protection of Ag NW network by adsorbing the uniform monolayer of MUA. With these findings, this work can contribute to finding a better passivation agent in the strategy of corrosion protection of Ag NW network electrode.

Abstract
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is a significant target for small organic and inorganic drug molecules. Understanding the DNA interaction mechanism of these molecules is vital for new drug designs. In this work, interactions between xanthine (XT), theophylline (TP), and theobromine (TB) with calf-thymus double-strained DNA (dsDNA) were monitored via an experimental and theoretical approach. Experimentally, cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) techniques were used on the surface of the NiO/MWCNT/NNaM/PGE electrochemical platform in vitro. Kinetic parameters, including diffusion coefficients, surface concentrations, and standard heterogeneous rate constants, were measured in the absence and presence of DNA using scan rate studies. In the presence of DNA, kinetic parameters were observed to be reduced significantly. Thermodynamic parameters, such as DNA binding constants and standard free Gibbs energies, were calculated for each molecule using the CV and DPV techniques. Both techniques suggested a binding affinity order of XT > TB > TP. Theoretically, density functional theory was applied for geometry optimization, natural bond orbital analyses, and molecular orbital energies of XT, TP, and TB. Experimental and theoretical binding affinities confirm each other. The most energetically stable ligand-DNA complexes expressed that XT, TP, and TB interact with dsDNA via minor groove binding mode, using mostly hydrogen bonds.

Abstract
The cleaning solution for the post-chemical mechanical planarization (post-CMP) process of tungsten in neutral-alkaline media requires corrosion inhibitors as an additive, especially for advanced devices where the device node size shrinks below 10 nm. In the present study, the corrosion inhibition performance of benzethonium chloride (BTC) is evaluated in neutral-alkaline conditions. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis showed ∼ 90 % of corrosion inhibition efficiency with an optimum concentration of 0.01 wt% BTC at both pH 7 and 11. Langmuir adsorption isotherm, frontier molecular orbital theory, molecular simulation, contact angle, precipitation study, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis were performed to identify the inhibition mechanism of the BTC molecule on the W surface. Based on the proposed mechanism, the electrostatic attraction between the positively charged N atom in the BTC molecule and the negatively charged W surface initiates the adsorption of the molecule. The high dipole moment and large molecular size enhance the physical adsorption of the molecule to the surface. In addition to this, the adsorption isotherm analysis shows that possible chemical interaction with a moderate value of Gibbs free energy change of adsorption exists between the W and BTC molecule. The excellent corrosion inhibition efficiency of BTC on W is confirmed by the frontier molecular orbital theory and molecular dynamic simulation analysis.

Abstract
Recently, scientist study the role of surfactants for carbon steel corrosion protection. In the present study, newly tetra-cationic surfactant (CS4: 1,N1'-(ethane-1,2-diyl) bis (N1, N2-didodecyl-N2-(2- (((E)-3-hydroxy-4-methoxy-benzylidene)amino)ethyl)ethane-1,2-diaminium) chloride) based on Schiff-base compound(5,5'-((1E,17E)-2,5,8,11,14,17-hexaazaoctadeca-1,17-diene-1,18-diyl)bis(2-methoxyphenol) was synthesised, purified and characterized using FTIR and 1HNMR spectroscopy. The synthesized Tetra-cationic surfactant (CS4) was evaluated as anti-corrosion for carbon steel (CS-metal) in aggressive 1 M HCl using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization techniques (PDP). CS4 compound had a good surface-active property by reducing the surface tension as a result to the hydrophobic chains role. The prepared CS4 behaved as hybrid inhibitor (mixed-type) by blocking the anodic and cathodic sites. CS4 exhibited good inhibition efficiency reached 95.69%. The surface morphology of CS-metal was studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS)confirming the anti-corrosive effect of CS4 compound returned into the adsorption process of CS4 molecules over CS-metal which obeyed Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The inhibitive effect of CS4 was supported by theoretical quantum chemical studies using the density functional theory (DFT), Monte Carlo (MC) and Molecular Dynamic (MD) simulation.

Abstract
Since the human body is one of the highly aggressive environments, the materials utilized for an implant should have high resistance to degradation and corrosion. One of the commonly used biomaterials in medicine is copper (Cu). The Cu corrosion can result in the release of ions in the body with high toxicity, thereby causing inflammatory diseases. Based on the literature, as biomolecules, amino acids act as a corrosion inhibitor in aggressive solutions. The current work aims at scrutinizing the inhibition impact of L-arginine (L-Arg) and L-Valine (L-Val), which have been rarely investigated, upon the corrosion process of Cu. We undertook density functional theory computations to scrutinize the inhibitory impact of L-Arg and L-Val as well as their conformers upon Cu corrosion. Also, we scrutinized the computed parameters according to the back donation of electrons between Cu and the inhibitors, transported electron fraction, energy gap, softness, hardness, EHOMO, and ELUMO. According to the theoretical indices of L-Arg, it prefers adsorption. We examined the inhibitory efficiency of L-Arg against corrosion and found that it is a promising inhibitor.

Abstract
Covering steel surfaces with suitable materials with the capacity to protect against corrosion represents a challenge for both research and industry, as steel, due to its paramount utility, is the most recycled material. This study presents the realization of new sandwich type materials based on 5,10-(4-carboxy-phenyl)-15,20-(4-phenoxy-phenyl)-porphyrin or 5,15-(4-carboxy-phenyl)-10,20-diphenylporphyrin and MnTa2O6 designed to improve corrosion inhibition of steel in aggressive media. The thin films, designed as single- or sandwich-type structures were obtained on carbon steel through the drop-casting technique. Morphological investigations of thin films were carried out by field emission-scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The inhibition of a steel corrosion process was evaluated in an aggressive environment of 0.1 M HCl by performing electrochemical investigations such as open circuit potential (OCP) and the potentiodynamic polarization technique. The influence of variations in the cathodic Tafel slopes βc and anodic Tafel slopes βa over the corrosion rates was discussed. The best corrosion inhibition efficiency of 91.76% was realized by the steel electrode covered with sandwich-type layers of 5,15-(4-carboxy-phenyl)-10,20-diphenylporphyrin on the bottom layer and MnTa2O6 on the top. The effect of location of the COOH groups in the cis or trans position on the tetrapyrrolic ring was also discussed to understand the corrosion inhibition mechanism.

Abstract
The corrosion inhibition property of selected small organic compounds was investigated using electrochemical measurements, including potentiodynamic polarization (PDP), linear polarization resistance (LPR), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The inhibition efficiency (IE %) of the inhibitor on mild steel (MS) in 1 M HCl was then determined. Results show that the presence of the inhibitors resulted in decreased corrosion current density (Icorr) values and increased polarization resistance (Rp). Furthermore, the use of higher concentrations of inhibitors led to an increased inhibition efficiency. Tafel slopes and shifts in the Ecorr values suggested that the inhibitors tested are mixed-type inhibitors that form a protective layer on the surface of the substrate. Of the organic compound inhibitors tested, the inhibitor 4-ethylpyridine (EP) exhibited the highest Rp values and inhibition efficiency values from the PDP, LPR, and EIS analyses, respectively. DFT calculations showed negative adsorption energies and confirmed the chemisorption of the inhibitors allowing for the formation of a hydrophobic protective film against corrosion and correlations between the quantum chemical values and electrochemical data were demonstrated. The results show the influence of the presence of electronegative O, S, and N atoms, as well as the role of aromatic rings in the promotion of surface protection by preventing aggressive ionic species from binding onto MS.

Abstract
The addition of corrosion inhibitors is an economic and environmental protection method to prevent the corrosion of copper. The adsorption, performance, and mechanism of three 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium hydrogen sulfate ([BMIM]HSO4, [HMIM]HSO4, and [OMIM]HSO4) ionic liquids (ILs) on the copper surface in 0.5 M H2SO4 solutions were studied by quantum chemical calculation, quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR), and molecular dynamics simulation. It is found that the main reactive site is located on the imidazolium ring (especially the C2, N4, and N7 groups). When the alkyl chain of the imidazolium ring is increasing, the molecular reactivity of the ILs and the interaction between the ILs inhibitor and copper surface are enhanced. The imidazole ring of the ILs tends to be adsorbed on Cu (111) surface in parallel through physical adsorption. The order of adsorption energy is [Bmim]HSO4 < [Hmim]HSO4 < [OMIM]HSO4, which is in agreement with the experimental order of corrosion efficiency. On the imidazole ring, the interaction between the copper surface and the C atom is greater than that between the copper surface and the N atom. It is found that ILs addition can hinder the diffusion of corrosion particles, reduce the number density of corrosion particles and slow down the corrosion rate. The order of inhibition ability of three ILs is [Bmim]HSO4 < [Hmim]HSO4 < [OMIM]HSO4,which agree well with experimental results. A reliable QSAR correlation between the inhibition corrosion efficiency and molecular reactivity parameters of the ILs was established.

Abstract
Molecular modelling of organic compounds using computational software has emerged as a powerful approach for theoretical determination of the corrosion inhibition potential of organic compounds. Some of the common techniques involved in the theoretical studies of corrosion inhibition potential and mechanisms include density functional theory (DFT), molecular dynamics (MD) and Monte Carlo (MC) simulations, and artificial neural network (ANN) and quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) modeling. Using computational modelling, the chemical reactivity and corrosion inhibition activities of organic compounds can be explained. The modelling can be regarded as a time-saving and eco-friendly approach for screening organic compounds for corrosion inhibition potential before their wet laboratory synthesis would be carried out. Another advantage of computational modelling is that molecular sites responsible for interactions with metallic surfaces (active sites or adsorption sites) and the orientation of organic compounds can be easily predicted. Using different theoretical descriptors/parameters, the inhibition effectiveness and nature of the metal-inhibitor interactions can also be predicted. The present review article is a collection of major advancements in the field of computational modelling for the design and testing of the corrosion inhibition effectiveness of organic corrosion inhibitors.

Abstract
The adsorption and inhibition mechanism of chain length increase and group substitution of imidazole tetrafluoroborate derivatives for the corrosion inhibition of carbon steel in HCl solution was revealed in detail via the density functional theory, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation, and quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) methods. The main reactive site of an ionic liquid is located on its imidazolium ring. With alkyl chain lengthening or the introduction of methyl groups onto the imidazolium ring, its molecular reactivity and electron-donating ability increase the interaction between the ionic liquid and the Fe (110) surface. Therefore, the imidazolium rings of four IL inhibitors are more likely to lie on the Fe (110) surface in parallel through chemical adsorption. The interactions between N atoms in ionic liquids and the Fe (110) surface are stronger than those between the C atoms on the imidazolium rings of the four ionic liquid, and coordination bonds can be formed between N atoms and the Fe (110) surface. Therefore, ionic liquids can hinder the interaction between corrosion particles and the Fe (110) surface, hinder the diffusion of corrosion particles, and effectively reduce the number density of corrosion particles on the Fe (110) surface. A methyl substituent on the C2 atom of the imidazolium ring can enhance the electron-donating ability and adsorption tendency much more than an increase in the alkyl chain on the N3 atom. The four inhibitors are ordered in terms of corrosion inhibition efficiency as [C12DMIM]BF4 > [C10DMIM]BF4 > [C12MIM]BF4 > [C10MIM]BF4, which agrees well with the experimental results. A good correlation between experimental inhibition efficiency, concentration and microscopic structures parameters of ILs such as energy gap ΔE, polarizability P, electronegativity χ, hardness η, softness σ, number of electrons transferred ΔN, and electrophilicity ω was achieved.

Abstract
Utilization of the coatings with self-healing anti-corrosion activities is one of the most promising routes for the development of advanced anti-corrosion coatings. In the present work, the green/sustainable corrosion inhibitive compounds based on the cerium acetylacetonate (CeA) was loaded into a beta-cyclodextrin (β-CD) nano-container (with negligible hazardous impacts) and through combined computer modeling and experimental approaches, the host-guest interactions/desorptions of the inclusion complexes of CeA with beta-cyclodextrin (β-CD) were assessed. The inhibition performance of the β-CD-CeA inclusion complex was investigated by electrochemical and surface experiments in a saline solution (NaCl, 3.5 wt.%). The particles were analyzed by Raman, XRD, FT-IR, and UV-vis spectroscopies. Additionally, the thermal properties in the 30-600 °C temperature range were examined by employing TGA/DTG test, and via the ICP analysis, the concentration of the released inorganic compounds in the electrolyte was studied. Achievements demonstrated 24 ppm Ce element existence after introducing β-CD-CeA inclusion complexes (during 24 h) in NaCl 3.5 wt.% solution. The analysis of Tafel curves proved that the prepared β-CD-CeA inclusion complex could inhibit the metallic substrate corrosion following the mixed cathodic and anodic mechanisms. The EIS investigation disclosed about 82 % inhibition degree after 48 h of metal immersion in the solution containing β-CD-CeA extract. The EIS analysis clarified that the silane coating (SC) resistance was enhanced noticeably by introducing the β-CD-CeA particles into the SC matrix. Using detailed-level (i.e., electronic and atomic) computer modeling techniques applying density functional theory (DFT), Mote Carlo (MC) and molecular dynamics (MD), the active sites, and the adsorption propensity of CeA complexes over the steel-based metallic adsorbents were explored. These modelings evidenced the CeA complexes interfacial adsorption on the steel.

Abstract
1,3-Diphenyl-2-thiourea (DPTU) and 1-phenyl-3-(2-pyridyl)-2-thiourea (PPTU) were selected as the researched subject for investigating the effect of heteroatoms on the low carbon steel corrosion inhibition ability. Results from the potentiodynamic polarization measurements (PPM) indicate that the addition of a nitrogen atom in the benzene ring increases the corrosion inhibition efficiency of PPTU (97.2%), being higher than that of DPTU (93.1%) at the same condition of 2.0 × 10-4 M at 30 °C. The Nyquist diagrams show that increasing the concentrations of both DPTU and PPTU will enhance the charge-transfer resistance and reduce the double-layer capacitance. The obtained data based on PPM and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy methods are in accordance to the analysis based on the scanning electrochemical microscopy images. Besides, results from quantum chemical calculations prove that the heteroatoms in the inhibitor molecules are the adsorption centers, and the benzene rings increase the electrostatic interaction between the inhibitor molecules and the steel surface. Results from Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics simulation have clarified the adsorption mechanism of DPTU and PPTU on the steel surface. Adsorption energies confirm that PPTU displays the higher inhibition ability as compared with DPTU.
