Abstract
Chemical sensing of harmful species released either from natural or anthropogenic activities is critical to ensuring human safety and health. Over the last decade, conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) have been proven to be potential sensor materials with the possibility of realizing sensing devices for practical applications. CMPs found to be unique among other porous materials such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) due to their high chemical/thermal stability, high surface area, microporosity, efficient host-guest interactions with the analyte, efficient exciton migration along the π-conjugated chains, and tailorable structure to target specific analytes. Several CMP-based optical, electrochemical, colorimetric, and ratiometric sensors with excellent selectivity and sensing performance were reported. This review comprehensively discusses the advances in CMP chemical sensors (powders and thin films) in the detection of nitroaromatic explosives, chemical warfare agents, anions, metal ions, biomolecules, iodine, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), with simultaneous delineation of design strategy principles guiding the selectivity and sensitivity of CMP. Preceding this, various photophysical mechanisms responsible for chemical sensing are discussed in detail for convenience. Finally, future challenges to be addressed in the field of CMP chemical sensors are discussed.

Abstract
The development of new metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) thin films is important for expanding their functions and applications. Herein, we first report a new kind of MOF thin film by using aggregation-induced emission (AIE) dicarboxyl ligand through a liquid-phase epitaxial (LPE) layer-by-layer (LBL) spraying method (named AIE surface-coordinated metal-organic frameworks thin film, AIE-SURMOF). The obtained AIE-SURMOF Zn4O(TPE)3 (ZnTPE) has highly growth orientation and homogeneous thin film, showing strong fluorescent property. Furthermore, by loading chiral guest in the MOF pore, the formed chiral encapsulated AIE-SURMOF can clearly indicate obvious circularly polarized luminescence performance with glum of 0.01. This study provides new MOF thin film and new strategy for expanding function and application of MOF materials.

Abstract
Radioactive uranium leaks into natural water bodies mainly in the form of uranyl ions (UO22+), posing ecological and human health risks. Fluorescent europium-based metal-organic frameworks (Eu-MOFs) have been demonstrated to be effective fluorescent sensors for UO22+, but the large size, powder state and poor dispersity limit their further application. In this work, fluorescent Eu-MOFs were in-situ grown on TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibers (TOCNFs), which is the first time that spherical Eu-MOF crystals with sizes below 10 nm were prepared. Fluorescence spectral analysis revealed a nine-fold increase in the fluorescence intensity of TOCNF@Eu-MOF compared to Eu-MOF. The nanocomposites achieved rapid and sensitive fluorescence quenching to UO22+ through the "antenna effect" and unsaturated Lewis basic sites on the ligands binding with UO22+. Moreover, TOCNF@Eu-MOF demonstrated excellent selectivity and anti-interference for UO22+ detection. For the nanopaper-based sensor made from TOCNF@Eu-MOF, the Stern-Volmer quenching constant (KSV) was calculated as 8.21 × 104 M-1, and the lowest limit of detection (LOD) was 6.6 × 10-7 M, significantly lower than the 1.32 × 10-6 M of Eu-MOFs. In addition, the nanopaper exhibited good fluorescence stability and cyclic detection performance, enabling the rapid and convenient detection of UO22+ in the aqueous phase within 30 s by simple dipping.

Abstract
Nitroaromatic compounds are illicit explosive chemicals. For environmental security and homeland safety, selective and sensitive identification of these secondary-class explosives has been a reason for the exhaustive research arena of chemists for about a decade. We introduced a sensitive optical sensor with desalted neutral red (NR) dye. After ingressing picric acid (PA) in acetonitrile, the probe becomes non-fluorescent, displaying a colorimetric change from yellow to pink. The quenched phenomena and the changed color were re-established with aliphatic amine, trimethylamine (TEA). The reversibility is produced cyclically, both in fluorimetrically and spectrophotometrically. The detection limit for PA with our probe comes out as 0.639 µM; this value is significantly lower than many chemosensors available in the literature. Also, NR-stained filter paper strips-based test kit analysis has been deployed as a displayable photonic device for in-situ detection of PA. Furthermore, the whole system was conceptualized to produce single input, single output, and double input single output logic gates, which can be applied to digital devices. The chronological input manner as NTP (NR- TEA-PA) pushed us to configure a molecular keypad lock system, the basis of digital locking devices. The repeatable & reversible detection system exhibits "Write read- Erase-read Write-read' type memory devices.

Abstract
Metal-organic framework (MOF) thin films could be used for ion/molecular sieving, sensing, catalysis, and energy storage, but thus far no large-scale applications are known. One of the reasons is the lack of convenient and controllable fabrication methods. This work reviews the cathodic deposition of MOF films, which has advantages (e.g., simple operations, mild conditions, and controllable MOF film thickness/morphology) over other reported techniques. Accordingly, we discuss the mechanism of the cathodic deposition of MOF films which consists of the electrochemically triggered deprotonation of organic linkers and the formation of inorganic building blocks. Thereafter, the main applications of cathodically deposited MOF films are introduced with the aim of showing this technique's wide-ranging applications. Finally, we give the remaining issues and outlooks of the cathodic deposition of MOF films to drive its future development.

Abstract
Both nitroaromatic compounds (NACs) and heavy metal ions are accumulative high-risk environmental pollutants, so high-sensitivity detection of these environment pollutants is necessary. In this work, a cucurbit[6]uril (CB[6]) based luminescent supramolecular assembly [Na2K2(CB[6])2(DMF)2(ANS)(H2O)4](1) (CB[6] = cucurbit[6]uril, ANS2- = 8-Aminonaphthalene-1,3,6-trisulfonic acid ion) has been synthesized under solvothermal conditions, using ANS2- as a structural inducer. Performance studies have shown that 1 exhibits excellent chemical stability and easy regeneration ability. It can highly selective sensing of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) through fluorescence quenching with a strong quenching constant (Ksv = 2.58 × 104 M-1). Additionally, the fluorescence emission of 1 can be effectively enhanced with Ba2+ in aqueous solution (Ksv = 5.57 × 103 M-1). More impressively, Ba2+@1 was successfully used as anti-counterfeiting fluorescent ink functional material with strong information encryption function. This work illustrates the application prospects of luminescent CB[6]-based supramolecular assembly in environmental pollutants detection and information anti-counterfeiting for the first time, which extends the multifunctional application scope of CB[6]-based supramolecular assembly.

Abstract
Amine/hydrazone functionalized dual ligand Cd(II)/Zn(II) based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) denoted as CdMOF- and ZnMOF-NH2, respectively were synthesized via a simple conventional high-yield reflux method using low-cost and readily available starting materials, i.e., a Schiff base linker, 4-pyridylcarboxaldehydeisonicotinoylhydrazone (L1) and 2-aminoterephthalic acid (H2ata) linker. Crystallographic and thermogravimetric studies confirmed the formation of MOFs with good crystallinity and thermal stability. Photoluminescence studies point out that both MOFs can be used efficiently for fast sensing of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) in water with noticeable turn-off quenching response. Their limits of detection (LODs) for TNP were 7 ppb and 10 ppb, respectively with enhanced selectivity toward TNP (over other nitro explosives) as verified by competitive nitro explosive tests. Density functional theory calculations and spectral overlap were used to assess the sensing mechanism. These MOF-based fluorescent sensing systems for TNP are demonstrated to have easy recoverability and high sensitivity.

The work presented herein reports on the synthesis, structural and physico-chemical characterization, luminescence properties and luminescent sensing activity of a family of isostructural coordination polymers (CPs) with the general formula [Ln2(μ4-5Meip)3(DMF)]n (where Ln(III) = Sm (1Sm), Eu (2Eu), Gd (3Gd), Tb (4Tb) and Yb (5Yb) and 5Meip = 5-methylisophthalate, DMF = N,N-dimethylmethanamide). Crystal structures consist of 3D frameworks tailored by the linkage between infinite lanthanide(III)-carboxylate rods by means of the tetradentate 5Meip ligands. Photoluminescence measurements in solid state at variable temperatures reveal the best-in-class properties based on the capacity of the 5Meip ligand to provide efficient energy transfers to the lanthanide(III) ions, which brings intense emissions in both the visible and near-infrared (NIR) regions. On the one hand, compound 5Yb displays characteristic lanthanide-centered bands in the NIR with sizeable intensity even at room temperature. Among the compounds emitting in the visible region, 4Tb presents a high QY of 63%, which may be explained according to computational calculations. At last, taking advantage of the good performance as well as high chemical and optical stability of 4Tb in water and methanol, its sensing capacity to detect 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) among other nitroaromatic-like explosives has been explored, obtaining high detection capacity (with Ksv around 105 M-1), low limit of detection (in the 10-6-10-7 M) and selectivity among other molecules (especially in methanol).

Abstract
In this work, an Eu3+-MOF-253@Au electrochemiluminescence sensor was successfully constructed for the first time by encapsulating nanogold in the metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) backbone and pore channels, and assembling Eu3+ on the MOF backbone. Firstly, the introduction of nanogold overcomes the weakness of MOFs, which was difficult to achieve, and enhances its catalytic performance, followed by the modification of Eu3+ to confer the electrochemiluminescence performance and the function of target detection on the sensor. Moreover, carbaryl was placed in an alkaline working solution to enhance the intensity of electrochemiluminescence signal, as well as to promote the hydrolysis of carbaryl into 1-naphthol, which caused the burst of Eu3+-MOF-253@Au electrochemiluminescence sensor, thereby achieving the sensitive detection of carbaryl. On this basis, the electrochemiluminescence detection conditions were optimized, the performance was analyzed, and finally it was successfully used for the detection of carbaryl with good linearity in the range of 0.2–200 μg L−1 and a low detection limit (0.14 μg L−1).

Abstract
Pore decoration of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with functional groups is a useful strategy to attain high selectivity toward specific analytes, especially in the presence of interfering molecules with similar structures and energy levels, through selective host-guest interactions. In this work, we applied a dihydrotetrazine-decorated MOF, TMU-34, with the formula [Zn(OBA)(H2DPT)0.5]n·DMF, where H2OBA is 4,4'-oxybis(benzoic acid) and H2DPT is 3,6-bis(pyridin-4-yl)-1,4-dihydro-1,2,4,5-tetrazine, for the highly selective detection of phenolic NACs, especially TNP (94% quenching efficiency, detection limit 8.1 × 10-6 M, KSV = 182663 mol L-1), in the presence of other substituted NACs especially -NH2-substituted NACs. Investigations reveal that the quenching mechanism is dominated by photoinduced MOF-to-TNP electron transfer through possible hydrogen-bonding interactions between the phenolic hydroxyl group of TNP and dihydrotetrazine functions of TMU-34. Despite extensive publications on the detection of TNP in the presence of other NACs, the significance of this work will be elucidated if attention is paid to the fact that TMU-34 is among the rare and highly selective MOF-based TNP sensors in the presence of -NH2-substituted NACs as the serious interferers.

Abstract
Three isostructural lanthanide coordination polymers (LnCPs), [Ln(L)6(DMF)]n {HL = 2-(2-formylphenoxy) acetic acid, Ln = Sm (1); Eu (2); Tb (3)} have been synthesized by solvothermal reaction and characterized. Single crystal analyses revealed that the architectures of these LnCPs own one dimensional chain which can be further packed into two-dimensional architectures by hydrogen bonds. Moreover, these LnCPs can offer strategically placed uncoordinated formyl groups, which may act as hydrogen-bond acceptor in the sensing of nitro explosives. Luminescence measurements reveal that LnCPs 2 and 3 exhibit strong luminescence in solid states. LnCP 2 shows quick, highly selective and sensitive detection of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) with the high quenching constant (2.6 × 104 M-1) and low detection limit (3.39 μM), which indicates that LnCP 2 is more efficient than most of Eu-based coordination polymers for the sensing of TNP. Furthermore, LnCP 2 represents the first example of one-dimensional Eu-based sensors with formyl group as hydrogen-bonding site in the detection of TNP.

Abstract
In this manuscript, a layer of 2-methylimidazole zinc salt (ZIF-8) membrane is deposited on the surface of glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with platinum nanoparticles (Pt NPs) by reduction electrochemical method to obtain ZIF-8/Pt NPs/GCE, and then used for the detection of ascorbic acid (AA). The deposition of Pt NPs on the surface of GCE can not only guide the nucleation and growth of ZIF-8 membrane, but also exert a synergistic effect with it to enhance conductivity. For ZIF-8 membrane, it can increase the active area of electrode and thus improve the electrochemical response of the sensor for AA. Influence factors such as the deposition current density, deposition time on the surface morphology of the modified electrode, and the detection performance of the modified electrode during the electrochemical deposition of ZIF-8 membrane were explored to get the best performance. In addition, influence of conditions such as sweep speed and pH of the test solution on the electrochemical response signal of AA were also studied. Under the best conditions, the linear range of AA detection by this sensor is from 10 μmol L-1 to 2500 μmol L-1, and the detection limit is 5.2 μmol L-1 based on S/N = 3. What's more, the modified electrode also has good anti-interference ability, reproducibility and stability, and has achieved satisfactory results in the detection for AA in real samples.

Abstract
A novel 3D Eu(iii) metal-organic framework (Eu-MOF-1) formulated as [Eu(L)(H2O)(DMA)] (L = 2-(2-nitro-4-carboxylphenyl)terephthalic acid) has been successfully synthesized under solvothermal conditions and characterized by structural analyses. Eu-MOF-1 displays a new 3D framework containing EuIII ions, ligand L, and coordinated DMA molecules and water molecules. The fluorescence investigations indicate that Eu-MOF-1 emits bright red luminescence, and shows relatively high water stability and outstanding chemical stability under a relatively wide range of pH conditions. It is noteworthy that Eu-MOF-1 can quantitatively detect p-aminophenol (PAP) which is a metabolite of phenylamine in human urine. More significantly, Eu-MOF-1 is the first reported multi-responsive luminescent sensor for detecting the biomarker PAP, and MnVII and CrVI anions with high selectivity, sensitivity, recyclability and relatively low detection limits in aqueous solutions. Furthermore, the possible sensing mechanisms of Eu-MOF-1 for selective sensing have also been explored in detail. Eu-MOF-1 could be an ideal candidate as a multi-responsive luminescent sensor in biological and environmental areas.

Abstract
Dyes detection remains a serious task because of their high toxicity. In present work, designed Eu3+ functionalized Zr-metal-organic framework (Eu3+@Zr-MOF-808) as fluorescent probe was constructed via post-synthetic modification (PSM) for rapid monitoring four most commonly used dyes (malachite green (MG), brilliant green (BG), alizarin red S (ARS), indigo red (IDR)). Systematic exploring on the sensing mechanism reveals that fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) for BG, MG and IDR and inner filter effect (IFE) for ARS contribute to the realization of the fluorescence quenching process. It exhibits excellent sensing performances with low limit of detection (LOD) of 32, 58, 77 and 133 nM for BG, IDR, MG and ARS, respectively. The as-constructed Eu3+@Zr-MOF-808 was demonstrated to be a highly sensitive probe for screening of MG in fish pond and IDR in printing wastewater with satisfying results. Moreover, a portable test reagent bottle has been developed for visual on-site screening of sample containing dyes with naked eyes under UV light. This is the first attempt to construct the Eu3+@Zr-MOF-808 probe for sensingmultiple dyes in real samples and demonstrates promising applications in water quality monitoring.

Abstract
Urgent demand for the prevention and diagnosis of physiological diseases is driving the development of biomarkers and physiological temperature fluorometric sensors. In this paper, a rare trinuclear lanthanide metal-organic framework (MOF), [(CH3)2NH2][Eu3(μ3-OH)(2,6-NDC)3(HCOO)3]·(solv)x (Eu(2,6-NDC), where 2,6-H2NDC = 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid) was synthesized using reticular chemistry via reducing the symmetry of the organic ligand from axisymmetric 1,4-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (1,4-H2NDC) to non-axisymmetric 2,6-H2NDC. Eu(2,6-NDC) shows exceptional chemical and thermal stability in acid-base solutions, PBS solution, and boiling water, and even under an air atmosphere up to 300 °C. As-synthesized Eu(2,6-NDC) exhibits ratiometric detection abilities for P1,P5-di(adenosine-5') pentaphosphate (Ap5A), for use as a biomarker of dry eye disease, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.031 μM, as well as excellent anti-interference properties. As far as is known, it is the first Ap5A sensor based on MOFs. In addition, the results show that the ratiometric parameters of co-doped Eu0.001Gd0.999(2,6-NDC) deliver a good linear luminescence response to physiological temperatures (20-60 °C) with high sensitivity.

Abstract
The thermodynamic (PCN-222) and kinetic (PCN-224) products of porphyrinic Zr-metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were synthesized via an anodic dissolution approach for the first time. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of MOF polymorphs being controlled by electrolysis. The selective formation of PCN-222 requires an amorphous component to be present on the electrode during the initial reaction process.

Abstract
The interaction between polyelectrolytes and metal ions is governed by different types of interactions, leading to the formation of different phases, from liquid state to weak gels, through an appropriate choice of metal ion/polyelectrolyte molar ratio. We have found that lanthanide ions, europium(III) and terbium(III), are able to form polymer composites with poly(sodium acrylate). That interaction enhances the luminescent properties of europium(III) and terbium(III), showing that Eu3+/poly(sodium acrylate) (PSA) and Tb3+/PSA composites have a highly intense red and green emission, respectively. The effect of cations with different valences on the luminescent properties of the polymer composites is analyzed. The presence of metal ions tends to quench the composite emission intensity and the quenching process depends on the cation, with copper(II) being by far the most efficient quencher. The interaction mechanism between lanthanoid ions and PSA is also discussed. The composites and their interactions with a wide range of cations and anions are fully characterized through stationary and non-stationary fluorescence, high resolution scanning electronic microscopy and X-ray diffraction.

Abstract
The improper use of organic explosives and antibiotics have brought serious threats to the public health and the environmental safety, exploiting cost-effective and handy luminescent sensors with water stability and high selectivity in monitoring and detecting these hazardous substances are of utmost importance. Herein, we developed a simple yet powerful luminescent test strip sensor in a facile way. As for fabricating this test strip, the filter paper used for filtering lanthanide MOF (Ln-MOF) of [Tb(HIP)(H2O)5]·(H2O)·(HIP)1/2 (Tb-HIP, where HIP is 5-hydroxyisophthalate) powders was firstly recycled, and encapsulated with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) polymer net. The as-fabricated Tb-HIP test strips exhibit enhanced mechanical stability than the un-encapsulated ones, and show characteristic green emission of Tb3+. These test strips can behave as promising highly selective luminescent probes for picric acid (PA) and macrodantin (MDT) even existence of relevant potentially competing analytes. The detection limit for PA is 0.26 μM, and for MDT is 0.21 μM. In addition, the sensors can be successfully applied to detect PA in the river water samples as well as MDT in serum samples with satisfactory results. More importantly, the Tb-HIP test strips are highly efficient, recyclable luminescence sensors to detect PA and MDT.

, (2), using the solution evaporation method. Both (1) and (2) were characterized by FT–IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis (EA), solid-state diffuse-reflectance UV–Vis spectroscopy, and powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Complex (1) shows a two-dimensional (2D) corrugated layer simplified as a 2D (4,4) topological network. The supramolecular interactions (π–π stacking, hydrogen bonding and C—Br...Br halogen bonding) play significant roles in the formation of an extended three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular network of (1). Complex (2) crystallizes in the chiral space group P212121 and exhibits a novel 3D homochiral framework, showing a diamond-like topology with Schläfli symbol 66. The homochirality of (2) is further confirmed by the solid-state circular dichroism (CD) spectrum. The second harmonic generation (SHG) property of (2) was also investigated. The hydrogen and C—Br...Br/O halogen bonding further stabilize the framework of (2). The central ZnII ions in (1) and (2) show tetrahedral and octahedral coordination geometries, respectively. The coordinated and uncoordinated water molecules in (2) could be removed selectively upon heating. Most importantly, (1) and (2) show rapid and highly sensitive sensing for a large pool of nitroaromatic explosives (NAEs).

Abstract
A fluorescent nanofibrous membrane (NFM) was successfully fabricated by functionalizing electrospun ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) NFM with 4‑aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and 1‑pyrenecarboxaldehyde (Py-CHO) for fast and selective determination of Cu2+ in aqueous solution. The effective grafting of PABA and Py-CHO on the surface of EVOH NFM was confirmed by FTIR and XPS spectra. Benefiting from the integrated merits of electrospun EVOH NFM, PABA and Py-CHO, the as-appeared EVOH-PABA-Py NFM exhibited high sensitivity and selectivity towards Cu2+ detection. The quenching efficiency was 91.7% when the concentration of Cu2+ reached 5 × 10-3 M, while the detectable fluorescence response of the NFM was still observed when the concentration of Cu2+ was 1 × 10-9 M. The fluorescence quenching caused by Cu2+ was hardly affected by other commonly co-existent metal ions. More importantly, the fluorescent NFM exhibited fast response and high reversibility towards Cu2+ detection. The "off-on" fluorescence switching process via alternating addition of Cu2+ and Na2EDTA occurred in 3 min, and the quenching efficiency of the NFM kept relatively stable values within 10 cycles. This work may provide a new insight into the development of rapid, portable, stable and reusable fluorescent sensor based on electrospun nanofibers that can satisfy the requirements of practical metal ions detection.

Abstract
Two luminescent lead phosphonates with two-dimensional (2D) layer and three-dimensional (3D) framework structure, namely, Pb3[(L1)2(Hssc)(H2O)2] (1) and [Pb2(L2)0.5(bts)(H2O)2]·H2O (2) (H2L1 = O(CH2CH2)2NCH2PO3H2, H4L2 = H2PO3CH2NH(C2H4)2NHCH2PO3H2, H3ssc = 5-sulfosalicylic acid, NaH2bts = 5-sulfoisophthalic acid sodium) have been prepared via hydrothermal techniques. The two compounds not only show excellent thermal stability but also remain intact in aqueous solution within an extensive pH range. Moreover, the atomic absorption spectroscopy analysis experiment indicates that there does not exist the leaching of Pb2+ ions from the lead phosphonates, which show they are nontoxic in aqueous solution. In compound 1, the Pb(1)O4, Pb(2)O7, Pb(3)O4, and CPO3 polyhedra are interlinked into a one-dimensional chain, which is further connected to adjacent chain by sharing the Hssc2- to form a 2D layer. Interestingly, compound 1 as a highly selective and sensitive luminescent material can be used to detect the thymine molecule with a very low detection limit of 8.26 × 10-7 M. In compound 2, the Pb(1)O6 and Pb(2)O5 polyhedra are interlinked into a dimer via edge sharing, which is further connected to adjacent dimer to form a tetramer via corner sharing, and such a tetramer is then interlinked into a 2D layer through bts3- ligands; the adjacent 2D layers are finally constructed to a 3D structure by sharing the L2 4- ligand. Compound 2 can be applied as an excellent luminescent sensor for sensing of VO3 - anion. Furthermore, the probable fluorescent quenching mechanisms of the two compounds have also been studied.
