Application of response surface methodology for optimization of the test condition of oxygen evolution reaction over La0.8Ba0.2CoO3 perovskite-active carbon composite

The Experimental Design was applied to optimize the electrocatalytic activity of La0.8Ba0.2CoO3 perovskite oxide/Active Carbon composite material in the alkaline solution for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction. After the preparation of La0.8Ba0.2CoO3, and structural characterizations, the experimental design was utilized to determine the optimal amount of the composite material and testing conditions. The overpotential was defined as the response variable, and the mass ratio of perovskite/active carbon, Potassium hydroxide (KOH) concentration, and Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) amount were considered effective parameters. The significance of model terms is demonstrated by P-values less than 0.0500. The proposed prediction model determined the optimal amounts of 0.665 mg of PVDF, a KOH concentration of 0.609 M, and A perovskite/Active Carbon mass ratio of 2.81 with 308.22 mV overpotential (2.27% greater than the actual overpotential). The stability test of the optimized electrode material over 24 h suggests that it could be a good candidate electrocatalyst for OER with reusability potential.

Raman scattering and red emission of Mn4+ in La0.7Sr0.25Na0.05Mn0.7Ti0.3O3 manganite phosphor for LED applications

The vibrational and optical properties of an La0.7Sr0.25Na0.05Mn0.7Ti0.3O3 (LSNMT) polycrystalline sample produced via a solid-state reaction were studied. The Raman spectrum at room temperature reveals the chemical disorder in our compound. The optical gap and Urbach energy were estimated on the basis of the absorption spectrum. Moreover, the polycrystalline manganite radiates in the near-infrared light (1000 nm) with 514.5 nm light excitation and in the temperature range from 10 K to 300 K. Crystal field analysis suggests that only the Mn4+ luminescent center is found in LSNMT. The measured activation proves that our compound possesses good thermostability. The chromaticity coordinates prove that the emission of the LSNMT sample occurs in the near-infrared region. All analytical findings demonstrate that LSNMT manganite has substantial prospective applications in white luminescent devices.

Promoting Electrocatalysis upon Aerogels

Electrocatalysis plays a prominent role in renewable energy conversion and storage, enabling a number of sustainable processes for future technologies. There are generally three strategies to improve the efficiency (or activity) of the electrocatalysts: i) increasing the intrinsic activity of the catalyst itself, ii) improving the exposure of active sites, and iii) accelerating mass transfer during catalysis (both reactants and products). These strategies are not mutually exclusive and can ideally be addressed simultaneously, leading to the largest improvements in activity. Aerogels, as featured by large surface area, high porosity, and self-supportability, provide a platform that matches all the aforementioned criteria for the design of efficient electrocatalysts. The field of aerogel synthesis has seen much progress in recent years, mainly thanks to the rapid development of nanotechnology. Employing precursors with different properties enables the resulting aerogel with targeted catalytic properties and improved performances. Here, the design strategies of aerogel catalysts are demonstrated, and their performance for several electrochemical reactions is reviewed. The common principles that govern electrocatalysis are further discussed for each category of reactions, thus serving as a guide to the development of future aerogel electrocatalysts.

Perovskite Electrocatalysts for the Oxygen Reduction Reaction in Alkaline Media

Oxygen reduction is considered a key reaction for electrochemical energy conversion but slow kinetics hamper application in fuel cells and metal-air batteries. In this review, the prospect of perovskite oxides for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in alkaline media is reviewed with respect to fundamental insight into activity and possible mechanisms. For gaining these insights, special emphasis is placed on highly crystalline perovskite films that have only recently become available for electrochemical interrogation. The prospects for applications are evaluated based on recent progress in the synthesis of perovskite nanoparticles. The review concludes with the current understanding of oxygen reduction on perovskite oxides and a perspective on opportunities for future fundamental and applied research.
