Simplifying metal-'ate' chemistry: formation and comprehensive characterisation of a homo-metallic amido lithiate complex

Synthesis, Crystal and Electronic Structures of a Thiophosphinoyl- and Amino-Substituted Metallated Ylide

α-Metallated ylides have revealed themselves to be versatile reagents for the introduction of ylide groups. Herein, we report the synthesis of the thiophosphinoyl and piperidyl (Pip) substituted α-metallated ylide [Ph2 (Pip)P=C-P(S)Ph2 ]M (M=Li, Na, K) through a four-step synthetic procedure starting from diphenylmethylphosphine sulfide. Metallation of the ylide intermediate was successfully accomplished with different alkali metal bases delivering the lithium, sodium and potassium salts, the latter isolable in high yields. Structure analyses of the lithium and potassium compounds in the solid state with and without crown ether revealed different aggregates (monomer, dimer and hexamer) with the metals coordinated by the thiophosphoryl moiety and ylidic carbon atom. Although the piperidyl group does not coordinate to the metal, it significantly contributes to the stability of the yldiide by charge delocalization through negative hyperconjugation.

Aluminates with Fluorinated Schiff Bases: Influence of the Alkali Metal⁻Fluorine Interactions in Structure Stabilization

New heterometallic aluminium-alkali metal compounds have been prepared using Schiff bases with electron withdrawing substituents as ligands. The synthesis of these new species was achieved via the reaction of AlMe₃ with the freshly prepared alkali-metallated ligand. The derivatives formed were characterized by NMR in solution and by single crystal X-ray diffraction in the solid state. Aluminate derivatives with lithium and sodium were prepared and a clear influence of the alkali metal in the final outcome is observed. The presence of a Na···F interaction in the solid state has a stabilization effect and the species [NaAlMe₃L]₂ can de isolated for the first time, which was not possible when using Schiff bases without electron withdrawing substituents as ligands.

Structural diversity of alkali-metal (Li, Na, K) alkyl zincates containing bidentate aminopyrrolyl ligands: from molecular complexes to coordination polymers

The exploration of co-complexation reactions between alkai-metal reagents and ZnEt₂ with bidentate aminopyrrolyl ligands afforded a series of alkali-metal (Li, Na, K) alkyl zincates with a variety of intriguing structures, ranging from molecular complexes to more coordination polymers. All aforementioned complexes have been characterized by X-ray crystallography, NMR, IR and UV-vis spectroscopy.
