Abstract
Herein, a new metal-free, molecular chlorine-free, environmentally friendly, atom-economical, short time, inexpensive and simple operation method with mild reaction conditions for chlorination of alkenes, cyclic alkenes, α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds, heteroaromatics, and natural products was reported with up to 96% yields using trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA) as the electrophilic chlorine source and TBACl as the nucleophilic chlorine source. It was demonstrated with bicyclic alkene benzonorbornadiene that regioselective chlorobromination and dibromination reactions can be carried out through TCCA/TBABr redox reactions, where TCCA acts as an oxidant in the presence of TBABr. The structures of the redox products were confirmed as a result of control experiments conducted with the newly presented DBI/TBACl and DBI/TBABr halogenation pairs.

Abstract
Herein, we report the first metal-free and molecular halogen reagent-free dihomohalogenation methodology by using Selectfluor as an oxidant and tetrabutylammonium bromide/chloride salts as a halogen source. This effective strategy provides various fluorine-free halogenated products easily in quantitative yields from alkenes, alkynes, and natural products.

Abstract
A family of novel bis-tridentate Ir(III) complexes (Ir1-Ir5) incorporating both functional N∧C∧N-type ligands (L1-L5) and N∧N∧C-type ligand (L0) were synthesized attentively and characterized scientifically. The crystalline structures of Ir1, Ir3 and Ir4 were resoundingly confirmed by XRD. With the aid of experimental and theoretical methods, their photophysical properties at transient and steady states were scientifically investigated. The broadband charge-transfer absorption for these aforementioned Ir(III) complexes is up to 600 nm as shown in the UV-visible absorption spectrum. The emission lifetimes of their excited states are good. Between the visible and near-infrared regions, Ir1-Ir5 possessed powerful excited-state absorption. Hence, a remarkably robust reverse saturable absorption (RSA) process can occur once the complexes are irradiated by a 532 nm laser. The RSA effect follows the descending order: Ir3 > Ir5 > Ir4 ≈ Ir1 > Ir2. To sum up, modifying electron-donating units (-OCH3) and large π-conjugated units to the pyridyl N∧C∧N-type ligands is a systematic way to markedly raise the RSA effect. Therefore, these octahedral bis-tridentate Ir(III) complexes are potentially state-of-the-art optical limiting (OPL) materials.

Abstract
Aryl halide (Br, Cl, I) is among the most important compounds in pharmaceutical industry, material science, and agrochemistry, broadly utilized in diverse transformations. Tremendous approaches have been established to prepare this scaffold; however, many of them suffer from atom economy, harsh condition, inability to be scaled up, or cost-unfriendly reagents and catalysts. Inspired by vanadium haloperoxidases herein we presented a biomimetic approach for halogenation (Br, Cl, I) of (hetero)arene catalyzed by tungstate under mild pH in a cost-efficient and environment- and operation-friendly manner. Broad substrates, diverse functional group tolerance, and good chemo- and regioselectivities were observed, even in late-stage halogenation of complex molecules. Moreover, this approach can be scaled up to over 100 g without time-consuming and costly column purification. Several drugs and key precursors for drugs bearing aryl halides (Br, Cl, I) have been conveniently prepared based on our approach. Tungstate-catalyzed halogenation of (hetero)arenes under mild condition Robust in 100-g-scale synthesis; good functional group tolerance Late-stage halogenation of complex molecules; good application in drug synthesis

Abstract
Transition-metal oxide nanoparticles and molecular coordination compounds are highlighted as functional mimics of halogenating enzymes. These enzymes are involved in halometabolite biosynthesis. Their activity is based upon the formation of hypohalous acids from halides and hydrogen peroxide or oxygen, which form bioactive secondary metabolites of microbial origin with strong antibacterial and antifungal activities in follow-up reactions. Therefore, enzyme mimics and halogenating enzymes may be valuable tools to combat biofilm formation. Here, halogenating enzyme models are briefly described, enzyme mimics are classified according to their catalytic functions, and current knowledge about the settlement chemistry and adhesion of fouling organisms is summarized. Enzyme mimics with the highest potential are showcased. They may find application in antifouling coatings, indoor and outdoor paints, polymer membranes for water desalination, or in aquacultures, but also on surfaces for food packaging, door handles, hand rails, push buttons, keyboards, and other elements made of plastic where biofilms are present. The use of natural compounds, formed in situ with nontoxic and abundant metal oxide enzyme mimics, represents a novel and efficient "green" strategy to emulate and utilize a natural defense system for preventing bacterial colonization and biofilm growth.

Abstract
Enantiomeric excess (ee) determination is crucial in many aspects of science, from synthesis to materials. Within this subject, coupling molecular sensors with chiroptical techniques is a straightforward approach to the stereochemical analysis of chiral molecules, especially in terms of process immediacy and labor. Stereodynamic probes typically consist of racemic mixtures of rapidly interconverting enantiomeric conformers able to recognize a chiral analyte and greatly amplify its chiroptical readout. A great number of sensors have been developed, but their activity is generally restricted to one or a few classes of chemicals, and the analysis outcome relies on precise knowledge of the probe and analyte concentrations. This aspect in particular limits the potential practical applications. Here we report an oxo-vanadium(V) aminotriphenolate complex that was found to act as a concentration-independent stereodynamic sensor for a wide range of compounds. The bare complex is CD-silent, but coordination of an enantioenriched substrate immediately gives rise to intense Cotton effects in the visible region. Furthermore, a geometry change during the substrate-complex interaction leads to a marked optical response, as witnessed by a strong red-shift of the probe absorption bands, thus allowing the generation of dichroic signals in an "interference-free" area of the spectrum. This peculiarity allows for a linear correlation at high wavelengths between the ee of the analyte and anisotropy g-factor. This parameter derives from the differential circularly polarized light absorption of the sample but is independent of concentration. The newly developed sensor based on a simple coordination process has an unprecedented general character in terms of substrate scope and employment.
