Synthesis and characterization of a series of novel perovskite-type LaMnO3/Keggin-type polyoxometalate hybrid nanomaterials for fast and selective removal of cationic dyes from aqueous solutions

Recent Progress on Functionalized Nanoporous Heteropoly Acids: From Synthesis to Applications

Functionalized nanoporous heteropoly acids (HPAs) have garnered significant attention in recent years due to their enhanced surface area and porosity, as well as their potential for low-cost regeneration compared to bulk materials. This review aims to provide an overview of the recent advancements in the synthesis and applications of functionalized HPAs. We begin by introducing the fundamental properties of HPAs and their unique structure, followed by a comprehensive overview of the various approaches employed for the synthesis of functionalized HPAs, including salts, anchoring onto supports, and implementing mesoporous silica sieves. The potential applications of functionalized HPAs in various fields are also discussed, highlighting their boosted performance in a wide range of applications. Finally, we address the current challenges and present future prospects in the development of functionalized HPAs, particularly in the context of mesoporous HPAs. This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary of the recent progress in the field, highlighting the significant advancements made in the synthesis and applications of functionalized HPAs.

Analysis of the photocatalytic activity of La0.9Sr0.1Fe0.8Co0.2O3±δ perovskite as a catalyst in the degradation of RB-5 dye

The photocatalytic efficiency of some semiconductors depends mainly on their morphological, optical, and structural properties, which can be modified by varying the calcination temperature. In order to evaluate how these properties change, as a function of temperature in a AA'BB'O3 perovskite material, La0.9Sr0.1Fe0.8Co0.2O3±δ (LSFC) was synthesized by the Pechini method and calcined at different temperatures (600 °C, 700 °C, 800 °C, and 900 °C). All the samples were characterized structurally, morphologically, and optically by XRD, SEM, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Additionally, specific surface area and pore size distribution were calculated by BET and BHJ methods. LSFC was evaluated as photocatalyst material, estimating the degradation of reactive black 5 (RB5), employing as irradiation source UV light and sunlight. The obtained results display a clear tendency between the photoactivity and the heat treatment: degradation percentage decreases as the calcination temperature increases mainly due to the crystal and grain size and, furthermore, loss of porosity and the decrease in surface area, affecting the photocatalytic activity (98%, 95%, 74%, and 50% degradation, respectively). All the ceramic samples follow a pseudo-first-order reaction.

Research progresses on the application of perovskite in adsorption and photocatalytic removal of water pollutants

The problem of global water pollution and scarcity of water resources is becoming increasingly serious. Multifunctional perovskites can well drive adsorption and photocatalytic reactions to remove water pollutants. There are many advantages of perovskites, such as abundant oxygen vacancies, easily tunable structural morphology, stable crystal state, highly active metal sites, and a wide photo response range. However, there are few reviews on the simultaneous application of perovskite to adsorption and photocatalytic removal of water pollutants. Thus, this paper discusses the preparation methods of perovskite, the factors affecting the adsorption of water environmental pollutants by perovskite, and the factors affecting perovskite photocatalytic water pollutants. The particle size, specific surface area, oxygen vacancies, electron-hole trapping agents, potentials of the valence band, and conduction band in perovskites are significant influencing factors for adsorption and photocatalysis. Strategies for improving the performance of perovskites in the fields of adsorption and photocatalysis are discussed. The adsorption behaviors and catalytic mechanisms are also investigated, including adsorption kinetics and thermodynamics, electrostatic interaction, ion exchange, chemical bonding, and photocatalytic mechanism. It summarizes the removal of water pollutants by using perovskites. It provides the design of perovskites as high-efficiency adsorbents and catalysts for developing new technologies.

Development of LaxCa1-xMnO3 materials for Bezaktiv Blue removal in aqueous media

In this work, mixed oxides of La_xCa_1-xMnO₃ perovskite type (x = 0, 0.5 and 1.0) were synthesized through modified proteic method using collagen and calcination process at 700 °C/2 h in order to remove the commercial textile dye Bezaktiv Blue S-MAX from water. Oxides were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), N₂ physisorption, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and point of zero charge (PZC) techniques while the dye only by the first two techniques. The XRD showed that perovskite monophase was obtained for x = 0.5 and 1.0. However, for x = 0, the low crystalline perovskite phase was obtained in the midst of precursor oxides. FTIR showed the adsorption process did not damage the adsorbents structure. The successful obtained materials have meso and macroporous with slit or cavity shape, rough surface and particles with varying sizes. The pseudo-second-order model was the one that best fit the kinetic data. The process must occur through electrostatic surface interactions between the adsorbent surface and the dye molecule. For the equilibrium study, Langmuir isotherm is the most suitable when using LaMnO₃ adsorbent, while Freundlich isotherm was better suited when used the other two materials. The adsorbents were termally regenerated and reused five times. The best performance was exhibited by LaMnO₃.

The Sorption Performance of Cetyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide-Capped La0.9Sr0.1FeO3 Perovskite for Organic Pollutants from Industrial Processes

La_0.9Sr_0.1FeO₃ perovskite, prepared by the microwave-assisted method, was capped with cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) cationic surfactant, and applied as a sorbent for the removal of the anionic Congo red (CR) dye from aqueous solutions. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns showed that the perovskite structure was not affected by capping; however, the particle size increased. There was a hipsochromic shift in the value of λ_max of the CR absorption spectrum in the presence of CTAB, which indicated the formation of an oppositely charged dye–surfactant complex. The adsorption efficiency of CTAB-capped La_0.9Sr_0.1FeO₃ was independent of the pH of the solution—equilibrium was reached after a few minutes. The value of the maximum adsorption capacity, q_m, was 151.52 mg·g⁻¹, which was 10-times higher than that of the pure perovskite. The proposed sorbent maintained its excellent sorption ability in the presence of the sample matrix; therefore, it can be regenerated and reused with unchanged performance.

Synthesis and sonocatalytic performance of a ternary magnetic MIL-101(Cr)/RGO/ZnFe2O4 nanocomposite for degradation of dye pollutants

In this study, new ternary magnetic MIL-101(Cr)/RGO/ZnFe₂O₄ catalyst (with 30% wt of ZnFe₂O₄) was synthesized via a hydrothermal route for sonodegradation of organic dyes. The structural, optical and magnetic properties of the nanocomposite were detected by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-visible spectroscopy (UV-visible), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), Raman spectroscopy and BET surface area analysis. To evaluate the sonocatalytic activity of the as-prepared MIL-101(Cr)/RGO/ZnFe₂O₄ nanocomposite, the H₂O₂-assisted degradation of organic dyes such as congo red (CR), methylene blue (MB), Rhodamine B (RhB) and methyl orange (MO) in aqueous solution was studied under ultrasound irradiation. The obtained results indicated that the ternary MIL-101(Cr)/RGO/ZnFe₂O₄ nanocomposite had better performance for sonodegradation of these dyes than MIL-101(Cr)/RGO, pure MIL-101(Cr) or ZnFe₂O₄. The enhanced sonocatalytic performance of the as-prepared ternary nanocomposite could be attributed to the fast generation and separation of charge carriers (electrons and holes) in ZnFe₂O₄and MIL-101(Cr) and their transfer to the surface of graphene sheets. Moreover, the relatively high specific surface area of the MIL-101(Cr)/rGO and magnetic property of ZnFe₂O₄ improve the degradation efficiency of the dyes. The recovery of the ternary magnetic sonocatalyst from treated water could be easily achieved using an external magnetic field. The main influence factors on the sonocatalytic activity such as catalyst dosage and dye initial concentration were also investigated. The trapping experiments indicated that OH radicals are the prominent active species in dye degradation. In addition, the reusability test, was also carried out to ensure the stability of the employed sonocatalyst.

Highly Efficient, Rapid, and Simultaneous Removal of Cationic Dyes from Aqueous Solution Using Monodispersed Mesoporous Silica Nanoparticles as the Adsorbent

In this work, a highly efficient and rapid method for simultaneously removing cationic dyes from aqueous solutions was developed by using monodispersed mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) as the adsorbents. The MSNs were prepared by a facile one-pot method and characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller. Experimental results demonstrated that the as-prepared MSNs possessed a large specific surface area (about 585 m²/g), uniform particle size (about 30 nm), large pore volume (1.175 cm³/g), and narrow pore size distribution (1.68 nm). The materials showed highly efficient and rapid adsorption properties for cationic dyes including rhodamine B, methylene blue, methyl violet, malachite green, and basic fuchsin. Under the optimized conditions, the maximum adsorption capacities for the above mentioned cationic dyes were in the range of 14.70 mg/g to 34.23 mg/g, which could be achieved within 2 to 6 min. The probable adsorption mechanism of MSNs for adsorption of cationic dyes is proposed. It could be considered that the adsorption is mainly controlled by electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding between the cationic dyes and MSNs. As a low-cost, biocompatible, and environmentally friendly material, MSNs have a potential application in wastewater treatment for removing some environmental cationic contaminants.

Various polyoxomolybdate-based hybrids induced by pH and solvents: structures, adsorption activities for dyes and bifunctional electrocatalytic properties

By changing the pH values and solvents, four different polyoxomolybdate hybrids were synthesized, which display good adsorption activities for different organic dyes and bifunctional electrocatalytic properties.
