Temperature-sensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-chitosan hydrogel for fluorescence sensors in living cells and its antibacterial application

It is meaningful and challenging to design and develop a fluorescent probe for living cell temperature sensors since it should have good cell compatibility and high-resolution features. In this work, the temperature-sensitive polymer of PA-loaded cysteine (Cys) modified chitosan (Cs) grafted PNIPAM (Cs-Cys-PN/PA) with aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) properties that reversible hydrogel in an aqueous solution is synthesized. Here, we interpret the temperature stimulus as a monochromatic signal through the AIEE active reversible hydrogel of Cs-Cys-PN. In addition, the cytotoxicity test shown that Cs-Cys-PN has good biocompatibility. Cs-Cys-PN can be used to build antibacterial drugs carrier, thereby providing a new platform of self-released drugs for the treatment of bacterial infections.

Naphthalimide-Based DNA-Coupled Hybrid Assembly for Sensing Dipicolinic Acid: A Biomarker for Bacillus anthracis Spores

We have designed and synthesized a novel, water-soluble naphthalimide-histidine receptor (1) with excellent fluorescent properties. Functioning of the synthesized receptor was performed through developing their DNA-receptor hybrid assembly (DRHA), which has shown significant changes in the emission profile upon interactions with dipicolinic acid (DPA), a biomarker for Bacillus anthracis spores. DRHA showed fluorescence enhancement upon binding with DPA with the characteristic of internal charge transfer. It is notable that this assembly exhibited a significant limit of detection (12 nM) toward DPA. The mechanism of sensing was fully defined using ethidium bromide (EtBr) interaction studies as well as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic analysis, which describes the binding mode of DRHA with DPA. This assembly selectively interacts with DPA over other anions, common cellular cations, and aromatic acids in aqueous media.

Functional 1,8-Naphthalimide AIE/AIEEgens: Recent Advances and Prospects

This comprehensive review surveys the up-to-date development of aggregation-induced emission/aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIE/AIEE) active naphthalimide (NI)-based smart materials with potential for wide and real-world applications and that serves as a highly versatile building block with tunable absorption and emission in the complete visible region. The review article commences with a precise description of the importance of NI moiety and its several restricted area of applications owing to its aggregation caused quenching (ACQ) properties, followed by the discovery and importance of AIE/AIEE-active NIs. The introduction section tracked an overview of the state of the art in NI luminogens in multiple applications. It also includes a few mechanistic studies on the structure-property correlation of NIs and provides more insights into the condensed-state photophysical properties of small aggregation-prone systems. The review aims to ultimately accomplish current and forthcoming views comprising the use of the NIs for the detection of biologically active molecules, such as amino acids and proteins, recognition of toxic analytes, fabrication of light emitting diodes, and their potential in therapeutics and diagnostics.
