Abstract
The present study demonstrates the influence of small portion (20 %) of organic co-solvent (DMSO/THF/ACN/MeOH) in mixed aqueous media (80 % water) in controlling the size, quantum yield and life time of the through space charge transfer assemblies (TSCT) of pentacenequinone derivative (TPy-PCQ-TPy). Among various solvent systems [H2 O : DMSO (8 : 2), H2 O : THF (8 : 2), H2 O : ACN (8 : 2) and H2 O : MeOH (8 : 2)] examined, highly emissive (Φf =12 %) and nano-sized assemblies having long life time (3.11 ns) were formed in H2 O : DMSO (8 : 2) solvent system. The solvent dependent differences in the size and excited state properties of TPy-PCQ-TPy assemblies are reflected in their photosensitizing behaviour in different solvent systems. Backed by excellent photosensitizing properties, TPy-PCQ-TPy assemblies smoothly catalyse the photoamidation reactions between unactivated/activated aldehydes and secondary amine under mild reaction conditions (visible light irradiation, aerial atmosphere, room temperature) in H2 O : DMSO (8 : 2) solvent mixture. The as prepared assemblies of TPy-PCQ-TPy also exhibit high potential to catalyse the oxidation of benzyl alcohols to aromatic aldehydes, thus, generating a possibility to use aromatic alcohols as the starting material in photoamidation reactions. The real time application of TSCT assemblies has also been demonstrated in gram scale transformation of aromatic aldehydes to aromatic amides and photooxidation of benzyl alcohol to aromatic aldehyde.

Abstract
A fluorescent probe TPSBT was developed to monitor hydrazine detection with a "turn on" response, converting from a "non-responsive" probe by a simple structural modification. The probe shows very weak fluorescence due to the strong ICT process and upon treatment with hydrazine, green fluorescence appears due to the blocking of this ICT by the formation of a hydrazone. The probe TPSBT can detect hydrazine with a very low detection limit (1.22 × 10-7 M) and within a very short time period of 50 s. Additionally, the probe is able to give a response in live cell imaging (MDA-MB 231) and also in the solid phase.

Abstract
Giving the fact that mercury ions (Hg2+) is highly toxic, migratory and bioaccumulative and even very small amounts of mercury can cause serious damage to health, resulting in many diseases, such as abdominal pain, renal failure, nervous system damage. The content of mercury in drinking water quality standard of our country has been strictly limited. Therefore, it is of good research interest to develop a stable fluorescent probe capable of detecting the presence of mercury in biological cells. In this study, a novel fluorescent probe based on isophoronitriles scaffold, DNC-Hg, was designed and synthesized for monitoring mercury ion in living HeLa cells. The good properties of the probe may be attributed to the unique strong electron-absorbing group in the structural design, the good conjugation effect, and the mature Hg2+ recognition site. The probe exhibited good selectivity and stability, large Stokes shift(174 nm) and low cytotoxicity. Furthermore, this stable probe DNC-Hg could be used for cellular imaging.

Abstract
Highly photostable supramolecular photosensitizing 'lighted metal-free' assemblies of DPZ-Th have been developed which show strong absorption in the visible region and excellent electron transportation potential from donor to acceptor units. The as-prepared assemblies of DPZ-Th activate aerial oxygen to generate Type I reactive oxygen species (ROS) under visible-light irradiation in mixed aqueous media. Owing to these properties, the as-prepared DPZ-Th assemblies exhibit high photocatalytic activity in catalyzing the aerobic oxidative coupling of benzylamines and synthesis of quinazolines. Various spectroscopic studies support the participation of Type I reactive species in the reaction mechanism. The 'pure' oxygen environment was not needed for carrying out these transformations and all the reactions proceed very well under aerial conditions to furnish the desired products in high yields.

The major findings in the growing field of aggregation induced emissive (AIE) active materials for the detection of environmental toxic pollutants have been summarized and discussed in this Review article. Owing to the underlying photophysical phenomenon, fluorescent AIE active molecules show more impact on sensing applications. The major focus in current research efforts is on the development of AIE active materials such as TPE based organic fluorescent molecules, metal organic framework, and polymers that can be employed for the detection of toxic pollutants such as CN- , NO2- , Hg2+ , Cd2+ , As3+ , As5+ , F- , Pb2+ , Sb3+ ions.

Abstract
Mercury (Hg) is one of the major toxic heavy metals, harmful to the environment and human health. Thus, it is significantly important to find an easy and quick method to detect Hg2+. In this study, we designed and synthesized a simple fluorescent probe with excellent properties, such as high sensitivity and selectivity, rapid response, and outstanding water solubility. When Hg2+ (5 μM) was added to the probe solution, it exhibited a very large fluorescent enhancement (about 350-fold stronger than the free probe) with the help of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Probe HCDC could quantitatively detect Hg2+ in the range of 0–10 μM using the fluorescence spectroscopy method and the detection limit was measured to be about 0.3 nM (based on a 3σ/slope). Analytical application was also studied, and the probe HCDC exhibited excellent response to Hg2+ with the addition of H2O2 in real water samples. So, our proposed probe HCDC provided a practical and promising method for determining Hg2+ in the environment. A novel water-soluble, highly selective and sensitive rapid-response fluorescent probe was developed to monitor mercury ions in real water samples.![]()

Abstract
Despite of the enthusiastic research in aggregation-induced emission luminogens (AIEgens) in recent years, the ones that can be smoothly used for sophisticated biomedical applications such as in vivo bioimaging of pulmonary metastatic tumors during surgery are still limited. Herein, we report the design and synthesis of a new series of far-red/near-infrared (FR/NIR) fluorescent AIEgens that consist of methoxy-substituted tetraphenylethene (TPE) as the electron-donating moiety, (1,3-dimethyl)barbituric acid as the electron-withdrawing moiety, and different π-bridge units. As compared to benzene or 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene, using thiophene as the π-conjugation unit between the donor and acceptor results in a relatively higher absolute fluorescence quantum yield (14.5 %) in water when formulating the corresponding AIEgens into nanoparticles (AIE dots) with an amphiphilic co-polymer as the doping matrix. The highly FR/NIR-emissive thiophene-based AIE dots are demonstrated to be potent for intraoperative detection of pulmonary metastatic tumors, particularly the micro-sized ones, with excellent signal-to-background ratio.
