Abstract
Pharmaceutical pollutants are a group of emerging contaminants frequently found in water streams. In this study, the composite chitosan beads with incorporated molecularly imprinted polymers (monoliths or microparticles) and iron(III) hydroxide were fabricated to remove ibuprofen from aqueous solutions. The adsorptive properties were investigated in different conditions to evaluate the influence of solution pH, adsorbent dose, ibuprofen initial concentration, adsorption time, and temperature. The highest adsorption capacity (79.41 mg g-1), about twice as large as that for the chitosan beads without polymers (39.42 mg g-1), was obtained for the ones containing monoliths imprinted with ibuprofen. The theoretical maximum adsorption capacity of 103.93 mg g-1 was obtained based on the experiments in optimal pH 5. The adsorption of ibuprofen on the hybrid hydrogel beads followed the Freundlich isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic models. The process was found as endothermic and thermodynamically spontaneous. The adsorbent with a molecularly imprinted polymer retained its selectivity in the presence of other molecules. The imprinted cavities, chitosan functional groups, and iron hydroxide were presumably responsible for interactions with ibuprofen molecules. Additionally, the effectiveness of the adsorbent did not change significantly in real water samples and remained at a satisfactory level for up to four desorption-adsorption cycles.

Abstract
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a high-cost disease that affects approximately one in ten people globally, progresses rapidly, results in kidney failure or dialysis, and triggers other diseases. Although clinically used serum creatinine tests are used to evaluate kidney functions, these tests are not suitable for frequent and regular control at-home settings that obstruct the regular monitoring of kidney functions, improving CKD management with early intervention. This study introduced a new electromechanical lab-on-a-chip platform for point-of-care detection of serum creatinine levels using colorimetric enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The platform was composed of a chip containing microreservoirs, a stirring bar coated with creatinine-specific antibodies, and a phone to detect color generated via ELISA protocols to evaluate creatinine levels. An electromechanical system was used to move the stirring bar to different microreservoirs and stir it inside them to capture and detect serum creatinine in the sample. The presented platform allowed automated analysis of creatinine in ∼50 min down to ∼1 and ∼2 mg/dL in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) and fetal bovine serum (FBS), respectively. Phone camera measurements in hue, saturation, value (HSV) space showed sensitive analysis compared to a benchtop spectrophotometer that could allow low-cost analysis at point-of-care.

Abstract
There is an increasing demand for developing the novel methods for the detection of clinically important metabolites. One among those metabolites is creatinine (2-amino-1-methyl-5H-imidazol-4-one), a waste product, produced by the catabolism of phosphocreatine from muscle and protein metabolism, finally excreted by the kidney. It is very important to measure the creatinine level in human blood and urine because it reflects the muscular and thyroid functions. Importantly, the elevated level of creatinine is considered to be as impairment of the kidney. There are numerous methods existed to measure the concentration of creatinine in blood and urine. In this review, we consolidated the different conventional methods (chromatography, spectroscopy, immune sensor and enzyme-based detections) and their shortcomings. On other hand, we also dissertated the various nanomaterials (chemiluminescence, voltametric, amperometric, conductometric, potentiometric, impedimetric and nano polymer) based creatinine detection methods and their advantages. Finally, we also focussed on the point-of-care detection methods of creatinine determination. This review can conclude the low cost, more efficient and reliable new sensors have been developed with upgraded nanotechnology for the detection of creatinine.
