A protecting group-free synthesis of (-)-hortonones A-C from the Inhoffen-Lythgoe diol

Transforming Pharmaceutical Synthesis with Sein-E-B Nanocomposite Photocatalyst through 1,4-NAD(P)H Cofactor Regeneration and C-N Bond Activation

The need for sunlight chemical renewal and contemporary organic transformation has fostered the advancement of environmentally friendly photocatalytic techniques. For the first time, we report on the novel crafting of a bright future with selenium-infused Eosin-B (Sein-E-B) nanocomposite photocatalysts in this work. The Sein-E-B nanocomposite materials were created using a hydrothermal process for solar chemical regeneration and organic transformation under visible light. The synthesized samples were subjected to UV-DRS-visible spectroscopy, FT-IR, SEM, EDX, EIS and XRD analysis. The energy band gap of the Sein-E-B nanocomposite photocatalyst was measured using UV-DRS, and the result was around 2.06 eV. to investigate the generated Sein-E-B catalytic activity as a nanocomposite for 1,4-NADH/NADPH re-formation and C-N bond activation. This novel photocatalyst offers a promising alternative for the regeneration of solar chemicals and C-N bond creation between pyrrole and aryl halides.

Non-volatile constituents from Monimiaceae, Siparunaceae and Atherospermataceae plant species and their bioactivities: An up-date covering 2000-2021

The Monimiaceae, Siparunaceae, and Atherospermataceae, formerly included in the broad ''old'' Monimiaceae family, have long been known for their uses in traditional medicine and have proven to be rich sources of chemically diverse specialized metabolites with numerous potent biological and therapeutical properties. The progress made recently has expanded their phytochemistry and pharmacology albeit to different extents. This review focuses on the non-volatile constituents isolated from the three plant families during the last two decades and their emerging therapeutic potential. Based on the data collected from multiple databases without statistical analysis, approximately 93 components, of which 35 undescribed compounds including γ-lactones, alkaloids, terpenoids, flavonoids, and homogentisic acid derivatives, have been reported. Moreover, diverse biological activities of pure isolated compounds such as anticancer, antioxidant, antiparasitic, antiviral, and antibacterial activities have been evidenced. Besides offering new important perspectives for different diseases' management, the chemical and biological diversities among the isolated compounds, open promising avenues of research and contribute to renewed interest in these families needing further studies. This review provides an updated overview of their potential as sources of leads for drug discovery, while also highlighting ongoing challenges and future research opportunities.

Total Syntheses and Absolute Configuration Assignment of (+)-Sootepdienone, (-)-Jambolanin C, (-)-Jambolanin I, and (-)-Gibberodione

Total syntheses of the sesquiterpenes (+)-sootepdienone, (-)-jambolanin C, (-)-jambolanin I, and (-)-gibberodione have been accomplished in 10 steps each from R-(+)-pulegone, allowing assignment of the absolute configuration of the natural products. A key step in the synthetic pathways involves the one-carbon ring expansion of a cyclic allylic phosphonate to a substituted cycloheptenone by a tandem oxidative cleavage/intramolecular Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons reaction.

A modular and divergent approach to spirocyclic pyrrolidines

An efficient three-step sequence to afford a valuable class of spirocyclic pyrrolidines is reported. A reductive cleavage/Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons cascade facilitates the spirocyclisation of a range of isoxazolines bearing a distal β-ketophosphonate. The spirocyclisation precursors are elaborated in a facile and modular fashion, via a [3 + 2]-cycloaddition followed by the condensation of a phosphonate ester, introducing multiple points of divergence. The synthetic utility of this protocol has been demonstrated in the synthesis of a broad family of 1-azaspiro[4,4]nonanes and in a concise formal synthesis of the natural product (±)-cephalotaxine.

A total synthesis of (-)-Hortonone C

A total synthesis of the cytotoxic terpenoid hortonone C was accomplished and its absolute stereochemistry confirmed. Intermediate (+)-4 was synthesized using either an asymmetric conjugate addition strategy, or by elaboration of the Hajos-Parrish ketone. Reduction of (+)-4 under dissolving-metal conditions and trapping the enolate intermediate served to control the cis-stereochemistry at the ring fusion and provide a silyl enol ether necessary for ring expansion. Comparison of optical rotation data confirmed that the absolute configuration of natural hortonone C is (6S,7S,10S).
