Abstract
Background/Objectives: Nitazoxanide (NTX) exhibits promising therapeutic potential; its effectiveness is constrained by its low oral bioavailability due to its poor water solubility and limited permeability. Methods: This study focused on developing a complex of NTX with β-cyclodextrins (β-CDs), specifically β-CD and hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (Hβ-CD), to enhance the solubility and antiviral activity of NTX. Results: The formation of the β-CD:NTX in an aqueous solution was verified using UV-visible spectroscopy, confirming a 1:1 inclusion complex. Characterization of the solid β-CD:NTX complexes was confirmed via FTIR, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and DSC-TGA analyses. Molecular docking studies revealed that the NTX thiazole ring with the nitro group was positioned within the β-CDs cavity, while the benzene ring remained outside. Phase solubility tests showed that β-CD:NTX complexes were formed with high stability constants, demonstrating a linear increase in NTX solubility as the β-CD concentration increased. Dissolution tests revealed rapid and nearly complete NTX release within 90 min for β-CD:NTX and Hβ-CD:NTX complexes. The β-CD:NTX complexes were tested for their antiviral activity against Herpes simplex virus (HSV-1) cultures. Results showed that the Hβ-CD:NTX complex had significantly higher antiviral efficacy than β-CD:NTX and free NTX alone. Moreover, cytotoxicity and cellular uptake studies on Vero cells indicated that the Hβ-CD:NTX complex demonstrated lower cytotoxicity and had the highest IC50 value, followed by β-CD:NTX and free NTX. Conclusions: These findings suggest that Hβ-CD:NTX inclusion complexes may serve as effective carriers for delivering NTX in HSV-1 treatments using Vero cell models.

Abstract
Tenofovir (TFR) is an antiviral drug commonly used to fight against viral diseases infection due to its good potency and high genetic barrier to drug resistance. In physiological conditions, TFR is less water soluble, more unstable, and less permeable, limiting its effective therapeutic applications. In addition to their use in treating the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), cyclodextrins (CDs) are also being used as a molecule to develop therapies for other diseases due to its enhance solubility and stability. This study is designed to synthesize and characterization of β-CD:TFR inclusion complex and its interaction against SARS-CoV-2 (MPro) protein (PDB ID;7cam). Several techniques were used to characterize the prepared β-CD:TFR inclusion complex, including UV-Visible, FT-IR, XRD, SEM, TGA, and DSC, which provided appropriate evidence to confirm the formation. A 1:1 stoichiometry was determined for β-CD:TFR inclusion complex in aqueous medium from UV-Visible absorption spectra by using the Benesi-Hildebrand method. Phase solubility studies proposed that β-CD enhanced the excellent solubility of TFR and the stability constant was obtained at 863 ± 32 M-1. Moreover, the molecular docking confirmed the experimental results demonstrated the most desirable mode of TFR encapsulated into the β-CD nanocavity via hydrophobic interactions and possible hydrogen bonds. Moreover, TFR was validated in the β-CD:TFR inclusion complex as potential inhibitors against SARS-CoV-2 main protease (Mpro) receptors by using in silico methods. The enhanced solubility, stability, and antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2 (MPro) suggest that β-CD:TFR inclusion complexes can be further used as feasible water-insoluble antiviral drug carriers in viral disease infection.

Abstract
During the current outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), researchers have examined several antiviral drugs with the potential to inhibit the proliferation of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The antiviral drug acyclovir (AVR), which is used to treat COVID-19, in complex with methyl-β-cyclodextrin (Mβ-CD) was examined in the solution and solid phases. UV-visible and fluorescence spectroscopic analyses confirmed that the guest (AVR) was included inside the host (Mβ-CD) cavity. A solid inclusion complex of AVR was prepared by co-precipitation, physical mixing, kneading, and bath sonication methods at a 1:1 ratio of Mβ-CD:AVR. The prepared Mβ-CD:AVR inclusion complex was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. Phase solubility studies indicated the Mβ-CD:AVR inclusion complex exhibited a higher stability constant and linear enhancement in AVR solubility with increasing Mβ-CD concentrations. In silico analysis of the Mβ-CD/AVR inclusion complex confirmed that AVR drugs show potential as inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 3C-like protease (3CLpro) receptors. Results obtained using the PatchDock and FireDock servers indicated that the most favorable docking ligand was Mβ-CD:AVR, which interacted with SARS-CoV-2 (3CLPro) protease inhibitors with high geometric shape complementarity scores (2522 and 5872) and atomic contact energy (-313.77 and -214.70 kcal mol-1). Our results suggest that the Mβ-CD/AVR inclusion complex inhibits the main protease of SARS-CoV-2, although further wet-lab experiments are needed to verify these findings.

Abstract
Here, we prepared the solid inclusion complexes between Caffeic acid (CA) and Cyclodextrins (β- and γ-CDs) (CA/CDs) that were effectively embedded into Poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) electrospun nanofibers via electrospinning technique to enhanced solubility and antibacterial activity. In tested Cyclodextrins are β-and γ-CDs with CA in the ratio of 1:1 resulting in the formation of CA/CDs by co-precipitation method. The physical properties of CA/CDs were examined by FT-IR, UV, and Raman Spectroscopy. The phase solubility test showed a much higher solubility of CA due to inclusion complexes (ICs). Furthermore, CA/β-CD and CA/γ-CD perfected achieved 0.70:1 and 0.80:1 the molar ratio of ICs, confirmed by NMR studies. The fiber size distribution, average diameter, and morphology features were evaluated by SEM analysis. The dissolution profile of PVA/CA and PVA/CA/CDs were tested within 150 min, resulting in CA dissolved in PVA/CA/CDs slightly higher than PVA/CA nanofibers due to enhanced solubility of ICs. Moreover, PVA/CA/CDs exhibit high antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria of E-Coli and gram-negative bacteria of S. aureus. Finally, these results suggest that PVA/CA/CDs may be promising materials for active food packaging applications.

Abstract
Lysozyme (LYZ) sensors have attracted increased attention because rapid and sensitive detection of LYZ is highly desirable for various diseases associated with humans. In this research, we designed L-cysteine-protected ultra small photoluminescent (PL) copper nanoclusters (CuNCs) conjugated with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) for rapid detection of LYZ in human serum samples at room temperature. The proposed β-CD-CuNCs exhibited excellent water solubility, ultrafine size, good dispersion, bright photoluminescence, and good photostability. The β-CD-CuNCs exhibit an excitation and emission maximum at 370 nm and 492 nm, respectively, with an absolute quantum yield (QY) of 54.6%. β-CD-CuNCs showed a fluorescence lifetime of 12.7 ns. The addition of LYZ would result in PL quenching from β-CD-CuNCs. The lowest detectable LYZ concentration was 50 nM for the naked eye and the limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) were 0.36 nM and 1.21 nM, respectively, by emission measurement observed in the LYZ concentration range from 30 to 100 nM. It is important to note that the PL β-CD-CuNC strategy possessed great selectivity toward LYZ relative to other biomolecules. The proposed nanosensor was efficiently applied to determine the LYZ level in human serum sample average recoveries from 96.15 to 104.05% and relative standard deviation (RSD) values lower than 3.0%. Moreover, the proposed sensing system showed many advantages, including high speed, high sensitivity, high selectivity, low cost, and simple preparation.

Abstract
We present self-assembled Pickering emulsions containing biocidal phytochemical oils (carvacrol and terpinen-4-ol) and β-cyclodextrin able to potentiate the antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity of miconazoctylium bromide. The carvacrol-containing emulsion is 2-fold more sensitive against C. albicans and S. aureus and highly active against E. coli, compared to the commercial cream containing miconazole nitrate. Moreover, this emulsion shows a synergistic effect against fungi, additive responses against bacteria, and remarkable staphylococcal biofilm eradication. These results are associated with membrane permeabilization, enzymes inhibition, and the accumulation of reactive oxygen species in microorganisms.
