Abstract
The design and development of a TfOH catalysed domino strategy for the double annulation of arenes with propargylic alcohols for the rapid generation of indene based polycyclic systems is reported. The dehydration, intramolecular 6-endo-dig hydroarylation, and cationic cyclization were consecutively promoted by TfOH. The key features of this strategy are the formation of two C-C bonds, unified access to indene polycyclic systems, excellent yields (up to 95%), high atom economy (>90%), an operationally simple procedure, and water being the only byproduct. By extending this strategy, a two-step synthesis of the pentacyclic systems of hypoxylonol A (43% overall yield from α-tetralone), daldinone A (63% overall yield from β-tetralone) and spiro-tetracyclic framework of incarviatone A has also been achieved.

Abstract
The indium(III)-catalyzed cascade cycloisomerization reaction of 1,5-enynes with pendant aryl nucleophiles is reported. The reaction proceeds in cascade under mild reaction conditions, using InI3 (5 mol %) as a catalyst with a range of 1,5-enynes furnished with aryl groups (phenyl and phenol) at alkene (E and Z isomers) and with terminal and internal alkynes. Using 1-bromo-1,5-enynes, a one-pot sequential indium-catalyzed cycloisomerization and palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling with triorganoindium reagents were developed. The double cyclization is stereospecific and operates via a biomimetic cascade cation-olefin through 1,5-enyne cyclization (6-endo-dig) and subsequent C-C hydroarylation or C-O phenoxycyclization. Density functional theory (DFT) computational studies on 1,5-enynyl aryl ethers support a two-step mechanism where the first stereoselective 1,5-enyne cyclization produces a nonclassical carbocation intermediate that evolves to the tricyclic reaction product through a SEAr mechanism. Using this approach, a variety of tricyclic heterocycles such as benzo[b]chromenes, phenanthridines, xanthenes, and spiroheterocyclic compounds are efficiently synthesized with high atom economy.

Abstract
An alternative Au(I)-catalyzed synthetic route to functionalized 1,2-dihydroquinolines is reported. This novel approach is based on the use of N-ethoxycarbonyl protected-N-propargylanilines as building blocks that rapidly undergo the IMHA reaction affording the 6-endo cyclization product in good to high yields. In the presence of N-ethoxycarbonyl-N-propargyl-meta-substituted anilines, the regiodivergent cyclization at the ortho-/para-position is achieved by the means of catalyst fine tuning.

Abstract
This work describes the 6-endo-dig cyclization of S-aryl propargyl sulfides to afford 2H-thiochromenes. The substitution at the propargylic position plays a crucial role in allowing intramolecular silver-catalyzed alkyne hydroarylation and N-iodosuccinimide-promoted iodoarylation. Additionally, a PTSA-catalyzed thiolation reaction of propargylic alcohols was developed to synthesize the required tertiary S-aryl propargyl ethers. The applicability of merging these two methods is demonstrated by synthesizing the retinoic acid receptor antagonist AGN194310.

Abstract
A practical enantioselective total synthesis of the unnatural (+)-quinine and (-)-9-epi-quinine enantiomers, which are important organocatalysts, is reported. The key transformation is a successive organocatalytic formal aza [3 + 3] cycloaddition/Strecker-type cyanation reaction to form an optically active tetrasubstituted piperidine derivative. This organocatalytic reaction proceeded in high yield and gave excellent enantiomeric excess with only 0.5 mol% catalyst loading. In addition, an imidate group, derived from a cyano group, was incorporated in the strategy for site-selective modification of the C4-alkyl chiral piperidine ring of quinine. Furthermore, an efficient coupling between the quinuclidine precursor and dihydroquinoline unit was achieved on a gram scale. The 15-step (LLS) synthetic protocol provided both (+)-quinine and (-)-9-epi-quinine, each with 16% overall yield.

Abstract
Indium(III) halides catalyze the hydroalkoxylation reaction of ortho-alkynylphenols to afford benzo[ b]furans in good yields. The reaction proceeds with 5- endo- dig regioselectivity with a variety of phenols functionalized at the arene and alkyne moieties in high yields using InI3 (5 mol %) in DCE. Experimental and computational studies support a mechanism based on the indium(III) π-Lewis acid activation of the alkyne followed by nucleophilic addition of the phenol and final protodemetalation to afford the corresponding benzo[ b]furan. DFT calculations suggest that dimer In2I6 is the catalytic species through a novel double coordination with the alkyne and the hydroxyl group.

Abstract
A combined Lewis acid system comprising of two or more Lewis acids occasionally exhibits augmented catalytic activity in organic transformations which are otherwise unrealizable by either of the components exclusively. On the other hand, the efficient construction of multiple new C-C bonds and polycyclic structures in minimal steps remains a subject of great interest in both academia and industry. Herein we report an efficient method to assemble aryldihydronaphthalene derivatives via a cascade reaction of diarylalkynes with acrylates under the catalysis of a combined Lewis acid derived from In(III) salt and TMSBr.

Abstract
A three component reaction with two different ketones and aromatic amines was firstly investigated. The difference in reactivity between ordinary ketones and ketone esters allowed for the production of 1,2-DHQs efficiently. The possible Skraup reaction with 2 equiv. of the same ketones was prohibited due to the fast formation of imines.

Abstract
An efficient synthesis of methyl nicotinates/6-halonicotinates by the domino isomerization of 4-propargyl/(3-halopropargyl)-5-methoxyisoxazoles under Fe(II)/Au(I) relay catalysis was developed. It was found that FeNTf2 is an effective catalyst for first step of the domino isomerization, transformation of isoxazole to 2H-azirine, which is compatible with Ph3PAuNTf2, catalyzing the second step.
