Abstract
A lithiated m-terphenyl ligand bearing fluorine atoms at the ortho positions of the flanking aryl rings was synthesized and characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction, variable-temperature multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, and computational methods. Changes in 1JC,F on coordination to lithium as a spectroscopic observable parametrizing the strength of the C-F···Li interaction are described, and a general, qualitative relationship between C-F bond lengths, Δ1JC,F values, and the extent of C-F bond activation as a result of Lewis acid coordination is proposed.

Abstract
One-bond coupling constants 1JXY are usually used as a measure of the corresponding XY interatomic distances. However, the physical nature of this correlation is not well understood and, in some cases, a counterintuitive behaviour of 1JXY upon hydrogen bonded complex formation has been reported. In this work, the behavior of 1JCH upon formation and strengthening of complexes with CHX hydrogen bonds and upon a proton transfer process is investigated by means of 1H NMR spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations. 1H NMR spectra of 1,1-dinitroethane solution at room temperature in various solvents (carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, dichloromethane, acetone, dimethylformamide and dimethyl sulfoxide) illustrate the increase of 1JCH by several Hz upon an increase of the complex strength. Computational results (MP2/aug-cc-pVDZ) reproduce this observation and allow one to conclude that the increase of 1JCH is mainly caused by the change of the carbon hybridization (an increase of s-character), rather than by the change in interatomic distance rCH. The behavior of 1JCH was also examined computationally for a wide range of CHX hydrogen bond energies and geometries. For this purpose, quantum-chemical modeling of the partial proton transfer process for complexes formed by 1,1-dinitroethane and trinitromethane as hydrogen bond donors with acetone, pyridine and fluoride anion as hydrogen bond acceptors was performed. The obtained results have confirmed the above-mentioned idea - for rather weak complexes, the dominant impact on the change of 1JCH magnitude is the increase of the s-character of carbon atom hybridization, while for complexes with a significantly transferred proton, the exponential decrease of the Fermi-contact term dominates.

Abstract
The investigation of new photosensitizers for Grätzel-type organic dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) remains a topic of interest for researchers of alternative solar cell materials. Over the past 20 years, considerable and increasing research efforts have been devoted to the design and synthesis of new materials, based on "donor, π-conjugated bridge, acceptor" (D-π-A) organic dye photosensitizers. In this paper, the computational chemistry methods are outlined and the design of organic sensitizers (compounds, dyes) is discussed. With reference to recent literature reports, rational molecular design is demonstrated as an effective process to study structure-property relationships. Examples from established organic dye sensitizer structures, such as TA-St-CA, Carbz-PAHTDDT (S9), and metalloporphyrin (PZn-EDOT), are used as reference structures for an examination of this concept applied to generate systematically modified structural derivatives and hence new photosensitizers (i.e., dyes). Using computer-aided rational design (CARD), the in silico design of new chromophores targeted an improvement in spectral properties via the tuning of electronic structures by substitution of molecular fragments, as evaluated by the calculation of absorption profiles. This mini review provides important rational design strategies for engineering new organic light-absorbing compounds towards improved spectral absorption and related optoelectronic properties of chromophores for photovoltaic applications, including the dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC).

Abstract
Ciprofloxacin is a widely used fluoroquinolone antibiotic. In this work, a comprehensive evaluation of MP2 and DFT with different functionals and basis sets was carried out to select the most suitable level of theory for the study of the NMR properties of ciprofloxacin. Their relative predictive capabilities were evaluated comparing the theoretically predicted and experimental spectral data. Our computational results indicated that in contrast to the solid state, the molecule of ciprofloxacin does not exist as a zwitterion in gaseous state. The results of the calculations of the chemical shifts most close to the experimental were obtained with B3LYP/aug-cc-pVDZ. The F-C coupling constants were calculated systematically with different DFT methods and several basis sets. In general, the calculations of the coupling constants with the BHandH computational method including the applied in this work 6-311++G**, EPRII, and EPRIII basis sets showed a good reproducibility of the experimental values of the coupling constants.

Abstract
1H NMR and 13C NMR spectra of uracil, thymine, 5-hydroxymethyluracil, 5,6-dihydrouracil, and 5,6-dihydrothymine in DMSO-d6 solutions have been measured. Additionally, molecular structures as well as NMR parameters of these compounds and their various solvates have been calculated using DFT B3LYP/6-311++G(2d,p) PCM(DMSO) method. The analysis of the chemical shift data for these compounds has shown that, indeed, in DMSO solutions they occur as equilibrium mixtures of free molecules and solvates in which solute and solvent molecules are joined by NH···O or OH···O hydrogen bonds. The populations of particular species present in the solutions have been estimated. Moreover, it has been found that 5,6-dihydrothymine exists in DMSO solution preferentially in conformation with the methyl group occupying the pseudoequatorial position. This finding is based on the molecular energy calculations and remains in full agreement with the interpretation of NMR data and theoretical calculations of NMR parameters.
