Covalently Anchored Molecular Catalyst onto a Graphitic Carbon Nitride Surface for Photocatalytic Epoxidation of Olefins

This study explores an innovative photocatalytic approach using pristine graphitic carbon nitride (C3N4) to anchor iron salen-type complexes (FeSalenCl2) without the need for additional linkers or heterojunctions. The resulting hybrid catalyst, [C3N4-FeCl(Salen)]Chem, exhibits a promising catalytic performance in the selective epoxidation of cyclic and linear olefins using gaseous oxygen as the oxidant. The catalyst's selectivity closely resembles that of the free iron complex, and its effectiveness varies depending on the olefin substrate. Additionally, solvent selection plays a critical role in achieving optimal performance, with acetonitrile proving to be the best choice. The study demonstrates the potential of C3N4 as an environmentally friendly, recyclable, and efficient support for molecular catalysts. The results highlight the versatility and significance of C3N4-based materials in advancing light-driven catalysis.

The influence of hydrogen bonding on the structure of organic-inorganic hybrid catalysts and its application in the solvent-free epoxidation of α-olefins

In this study, two types of catalysts were prepared by the combination of gemini quaternary ammonium salt with two distinct species of phosphotungstic acid. Catalysts prepared by the Wells-Dawson type of phosphotungstic acid and Keggin-type phosphotungstic acid both exhibited dual-phase catalytic behavior, demonstrating both heterogeneous and homogeneous catalytic activities. In comparison to the catalyst prepared by the Keggin-type phosphotungstic acid, due to the higher size of Wells-Dawson type of phosphotungstic acid, hydrogen bonding could not effectively affect the catalyst prepared by H6P2W18O62. Subsequently, the influential factors on the catalytic reaction were investigated. Through the utilization of techniques such as XPS, FT-IR, Raman spectra and other characterization methods, two distinct structure and reaction mechanisms for these catalysts were elucidated under the influence of hydrogen bonding.

Enhanced Visible-Light-Induced Photocatalytic Activity in M(III)Salophen-Decorated TiO2 Nanoparticles for Heterogeneous Degradation of Organic Dyes

In this work, the construction of two heterojunction photocatalysts by coordinative anchoring of M(salophen)Cl complexes (M = Fe(III) and Mn(III)) to rutile TiO2 through a silica-aminopyridine linker (SAPy) promotes the visible-light-assisted photodegradation of organic dyes. The degradation efficiency of both cationic rhodamine B (RhB) and anionic methyl orange (MO) dyes by Fe- and Mn-TiO2-based catalysts in the presence of H2O2 under sunlight and low-wattage visible bulbs (12-18 W) is investigated. Anionic MO is more degradable than cationic RhB, and the Mn catalyst shows more activity than its Fe counterpart. Action spectra demonstrate the maximum apparent quantum efficiency (AQY) at 400-450 nm, confirming the visible-light-driven photocatalytic reaction. The enhanced photocatalytic activity might be attributed to the improved charge transfer in the heterojunction photocatalysts evidenced by photoluminescence (PL) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analyses. A radical pathway for the photodegradation of dyes is postulated based on scavenging experiments and spectral data. This work provides new opportunities for constructing highly efficient catalysts for wastewater treatment.

Nickel(ii) riboflavin complex as an efficient nanobiocatalyst for heterogeneous and sustainable oxidation of benzylic alcohols and sulfides

A novel Ni(ii)Rf₂ nanocomplex was prepared, which efficiently oxidizes a wide range of benzyl alcohols and sulfides by employing ideal oxidants in green reaction media.

Cobalt immobilized on hydroxyapatite as a low-cost and highly effective heterogeneous catalyst for alkenes epoxidation under mild conditions

Transition metal Co immobilized on hydroxyapatite with a loading of 0.05 wt% (denoted 0.05 wt% Co/HAP) could catalyze partial oxidation of cyclic alkenes, aromatic alkenes and aliphatic alkenes to yield epoxide products with excellent selectivity at 30 °C with O₂ and iso-butyraldehyde as co-oxidant. The TOF value was as high as 6261 h⁻¹ for epoxidation of cyclohexene. In addition, the prepared 0.05 wt% Co/HAP catalyst can be re-used at least 6 times without significant loss of catalytic activity and selectivity.
