Abstract
Site-predictable and chemoselective C-H bond functionalization reactions offer synthetically powerful strategies for the step-economic diversification of both feedstock and fine chemicals. Many transition-metal-catalyzed methods have emerged for the selective activation and functionalization of C-H bonds. However, challenges of regio- and chemoselectivity have emerged with application to highly complex molecules bearing significant functional group density and diversity. As molecular complexity increases within molecular structures the risks of catalyst intolerance and limited applicability grow with the number of functional groups and potentially Lewis basic heteroatoms. Given the abundance of C-H bonds within highly complex and already diversified molecules such as pharmaceuticals, natural products, and materials, design and selection of reaction conditions and tolerant catalysts has proved critical for successful direct functionalization. As such, innovations within transition-metal-catalyzed C-H bond functionalization for the direct formation of carbon-carbon bonds have been discovered and developed to overcome these challenges and limitations. This review highlights progress made for the direct metal-catalyzed C-C bond forming reactions including alkylation, methylation, arylation, and olefination of C-H bonds within complex targets.

Abstract
Convenient, easily handled, laboratory friendly, robust approaches to afford synthetically important organoboron compounds are currently of great interest to researchers. Among the various available strategies, a metal-free approach would be overwhelmingly accepted, since the target boron compounds can be prepared in a metal-free state. We herein present a detailed study of the metal-free directed ortho-C–H borylation of 2-pyrimidylaniline derivatives. The approach allowed us to synthesize various boronates, which are synthetically important compounds and various four-coordinated triarylborane derivatives, which could be useful in materials science as well as Lewis-acid catalysts. This metal-free directed C–H borylation reaction proceeds smoothly without any interference by external impurities, such as inorganic salts, reactive functionalities, heterocycles and even transition metal precursors, which further enhance its importance. We present the metal-free ortho-C–H borylation of 2-pyrimidylanilines to afford synthetically important boronic esters and tetra-coordinated triarylboranes, which could be useful in materials science as well as Lewis-acid catalysts.![]()

Abstract
Direct alkylations of carboxylic acid derivatives are challenging and particularly nickel catalysis commonly requires high reaction temperatures and strong bases, translating into limited substrate scope. Herein, nickel-catalyzed C-H alkylations of unactivated 8-aminoquinoline amides have been realized under exceedingly mild conditions, namely at room temperature, with a mild base and a user-friendly electrochemical setup. This electrocatalyzed C-H alkylation displays high functional group tolerance and is applicable to both the primary and secondary alkylation. Based on detailed mechanistic studies, a nickel(II/III/I) catalytic manifold has been proposed.

Abstract
Low-valent manganese-catalyzed C-H alkylation of pyridine derivatives with both primary and challenging secondary alkyl halides was established by amide assistance. The strategy provided expedient access to alkylated pyridines with wide functional group tolerance and ample scope through weak chelation. Mechanistic studies provided strong support for a rate-determining C-H activation and a SET-type C-X scission.

Abstract
With regards to the importance of direct and selective activation of C–H bonds in oxidation processes, we develop a supported manganese amine bis(phenol) ligand complex as a novel catalyst with the aim of obtaining valuable products such as carboxylic acids and ketones that have an important role in life, industry and academic laboratories. We further analyzed and characterized the catalyst using the HRTEM, SEM, FTIR, TGA, VSM, XPS, XRD, AAS, and elemental analysis (CHN) techniques. Also, the catalytic evaluation of our system for direct oxidation of benzylic C–H bonds under solvent-free condition demonstrated that the heterogeneous form of our catalyst has high efficiency in comparison with homogeneous ones due to more stability of the supported complex. Furthermore, the structural and morphological stability of our efficient recyclable catalytic system has been investigated and all of the data proved that the complex was firmly anchored to the magnetite nanoparticles. An environmentally friendly and efficient catalyst containing three interesting parts, Mn, the amine bis(phenolate) ligand (H3LGDC) and the magnetic nanoparticles for benzylic C–H bond oxidation.![]()

Abstract
The present work introduces a facile synthetic route for efficient doping of [NiII(bpy)x] into silica nanoparticles with various sizes and architectures. Variation of the latter results in different concentrations of the NiII complexes at the interface of the composite nanoparticles. The UV-Vis analysis of the nanoparticles reveals changes in the inner-sphere environment of the NiII complexes when embedded into the nanoparticles, while the inner-sphere of NiII is invariant for the nanoparticles with different architecture. Comparative analysis of the electrochemically generated redox transformations of the NiII complexes embedded in the nanoparticles of various architectures reveals the latter as the main factor controlling the accessibility of NiII complexes to the redox transitions which, in turn, controls the electrochemical behavior of the nanoparticles. The work also highlights an impact of the nanoparticulate architecture in catalytic activity of the NiII complexes within the different nanoparticles in oxidative C–H fluoroalkylation of caffeine. Both low leakage and high concentration of the NiII complexes at the interface of the composite nanoparticles enables fluoroalkylated caffeine to be obtained in high yields under recycling of the nanocatalyst five times at least. The present work introduces a facile synthetic route for efficient doping of [NiII(bpy)x] into silica nanoparticles with various sizes and architectures.![]()

Abstract
Nickel-catalyzed electrochemical C-H aminations were accomplished by chemo- and position-selective C-H activation with ample scope. Detailed mechanistic studies highlighted a facile C-H cleavage with unique chemo-selectivity, while cyclovoltammetric analysis provided support for a nickel(II/III/IV) manifold.
