Abstract
The expansive and dynamic field of the CO2 Reduction Reaction (CO2RR) seeks to harness CO2 as a sustainable carbon source or energy carrier. While significant progress has been made in two, six, and eight-electron reductions of CO2, the four-electron reduction remains understudied. This review fills this gap, comprehensively exploring CO2 reduction into formaldehyde (HCHO) or acetal-type compounds (EOCH2OE, with E = [Si], [B], [Zr], [U], [Y], [Nb], [Ta] or -R) using various CO2RR systems. These encompass (photo)electro-, bio-, and thermal reduction processes with diverse reductants. Formaldehyde, a versatile C1 product, is challenging to synthesize and isolate from the CO2RR. The review also discusses acetal compounds, emphasizing their significance as pathways to formaldehyde with distinct reactivity. Providing an overview of the state of four-electron CO2 reduction, this review highlights achievements, challenges, and the potential of the produced compounds - formaldehyde and acetals - as sustainable sources for valuable product synthesis, including chiral compounds.

Abstract
An unprecedented Et2 Zn-mediated gem-dicarboxylation of C─C/C─H single bond of cyclopropanols with CO2 is disclosed, which provides a straightforward and efficient methodology for the synthesis of a variety of structurally diverse and useful malonic acids in moderate to excellent yields. The protocol features mild reaction conditions, excellent functional group compatibility, broad substrate scope, and facile derivatization of the products. DFT calculations confirm that the transition-metal-free transformation proceeds through a novel ring-opening/α-functionalization/ring-closing/ring-opening/β-functionalization (ROFCOF) process, and 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU) plays dual important roles in the transformation.

Abstract
Interest in developing methods for direct CO2 fixation into readily available unfunctionalized C-H bonds in organic substances has recently surged. In contrast to the well-studied carboxylations of alkynyl C(sp)-H and aromatic C(sp2)-H bonds, carboxylation of benzylic C(sp3)-H bonds to produce 2-arylacetic acids is limited to photoirradiation reactions and continues to be a challenging issue because of the low chemical reactivity. We herein describe that a combined Brønsted base (i.e., LiO-t-Bu/CsF and LiOCEt3/CsF) achieves benzylic carboxylation of electron-deficient, -neutral, and -rich alkylarenes and enables various functionalities, including fragile ones such as bromide, alkene, alkyne, and carbonyl moieties. Dicarboxylation at the benzylic position is also established. Cs-alkoxide generated in situ acts as a reactive base, as demonstrated in experiments with independently prepared CsO-t-Bu and by 133Cs nuclear magnetic resonance studies.

Abstract
The zinc hydride compound, [Tptm]ZnH, may achieve the reduction of CO2 by (RO)3SiH (R = Me, Et) to the methanol oxidation level, (MeO)xSi(OR)4-x, via the formate species, HCO2Si(OR)3. However, because insertion of CO2 into the Zn-H bond is more facile than insertion of HCO2Si(OR)3, conversion of HCO2Si(OR)3 to the methanol level only occurs to a significant extent in the absence of CO2.

Abstract
A novel β-diketiminate stabilized gallium hydride, (Dipp L)Ga(Ad)H (where (Dipp L)={HC(MeCDippN)2 }, Dipp=2,6-diisopropylphenyl and Ad=1-adamantyl), has been synthesized and shown to undergo insertion of carbon dioxide into the Ga-H bond under mild conditions. In this case, treatment of the resulting κ1 -formate complex with triethylsilane does not lead to regeneration of the hydride precursor. However, when combined with B(C6 F5 )3 , (Dipp L)Ga(Ad)H catalyses the reductive hydrosilylation of CO2 . Under stoichiometric conditions, the addition of one equivalent of B(C6 F5 )3 to (Dipp L)Ga(Ad)H leads to the formation of a 3-coordinate cationic gallane complex, partnered with a hydroborate anion, [(Dipp L)Ga(Ad)][HB(C6 F5 )3 ]. This complex rapidly hydrometallates carbon dioxide and catalyses the selective reduction of CO2 to the formaldehyde oxidation level at 60 °C in the presence of Et3 SiH (yielding H2 C(OSiEt3 )2 ). When catalysis is undertaken in the presence of excess B(C6 F5 )3 , appreciable enhancement of activity is observed, with a corresponding reduction in selectivity: the product distribution includes H2 C(OSiEt3 )2 , CH4 and O(SiEt3 )2 . While this system represents proof-of-concept in CO2 hydrosilylation by a gallium hydride system, the TOF values obtained are relatively modest (max. 10 h-1 ). This is attributed to the strength of binding of the formatoborate anion to the gallium centre in the catalytic intermediate (Dipp L)Ga(Ad){OC(H)OB(C6 F5 )3 }, and the correspondingly slow rate of the turnover-limiting hydrosilylation step. In turn, this strength of binding can be related to the relatively high Lewis acidity measured for the [(Dipp L)Ga(Ad)]+ cation (AN=69.8).

Abstract
The global demand for energy and the concerns over climate issues renders the development of alternative renewable energy sources such as hydrogen (H2 ) important. A high-spin (hs) FeII complex with o-phenylenediamine (opda) ligands, [FeII (opda)3 ]2+ (hs-[6R]2+ ), was reported showing photochemical H2 evolution. In addition, a low-spin (ls) [FeII (bqdi)3 ]2+ (bqdi: o-benzoquinodiimine) (ls-[0R]2+ ) formation by O2 oxidation of hs-[6R]2+ , accompanied by ligand-based six-proton and six-electron transfer, revealed the potential of the complex with redox-active ligands as a novel multiple-proton and -electron storage material, albeit that the mechanism has not yet been understood. This paper reports that the oxidized ls-[0R][PF6 ]2 can be reduced by hydrazine giving ls-[FeII (opda)(bqdi)2 ][PF6 ]2 (ls-[2R][PF6 ]2 ) and ls-[FeII (opda)2 (bqdi)][PF6 ]2 (ls-[4R][PF6 ]2 ) with localized ligand-based proton-coupled mixed-valence (LPMV) states. The first isolation and characterization of the key intermediates with LPMV states offer unprecedented molecular insights into the design of photoresponsive molecule-based hydrogen-storage materials.

Abstract
Our planet urgently needs sustainable solutions to alleviate the anthropogenic global warming and climate change. Homogeneous catalysis has the potential to play a fundamental role in this process, providing novel, efficient, and at the same time eco-friendly routes for both chemicals and energy production. In particular, pincer-type ligation shows promising properties in terms of long-term stability and selectivity, as well as allowing for mild reaction conditions and low catalyst loading. Indeed, pincer complexes have been applied to a plethora of sustainable chemical processes, such as hydrogen release, CO2 capture and conversion, N2 fixation, and biomass valorization for the synthesis of high-value chemicals and fuels. In this work, we show the main advances of the last five years in the use of pincer transition metal complexes in key catalytic processes aiming for a more sustainable chemical and energy production.

Abstract
The utilization of carbon dioxide as a comonomer to produce polycarbonates has attracted a great deal of attention from both industrial and academic communities because it promises to replace petroleum-derived plastics and supports a sustainable environment. Significant progress in the copolymerization of cyclic ethers (e.g., epoxide, oxetane) and carbon dioxide has been made in recent decades, owing to the rapid development of catalysts. In this Review, the focus is to summarize and discuss recent advances in the development of homogeneous catalysts, including metal- and organo-based complexes, as well as the preparation of carbon dioxide-based block copolymer and functional polycarbonates.

Abstract
We herein demonstrate that the combination of LiO-tBu, CsF, and [18]crown-6 efficiently promotes the direct C-H carboxylation of electron-rich heteroarenes (benzothiophene, thiophene, benzofuran, and furan derivatives). A variety of functional groups, including methyl, methoxy, halo, cyano, amide, and keto moieties, are compatible with this system. The reaction proceeds via the formation of a tert-butyl carbonate species.

BMC Chem 2019; 13:8. Abstract
There are many molecules used as a drug carrier. TUD-1 is a newly synthesized mesoporous silica (SM) molecule possess two important features; consists of mesoporous so it is very suitable to be drug carrier in addition to that it has the ability to induce apoptosis in cancer cells. However, the effect of TUD-1 appears to act as cell death inducer, regardless of whether it is necrosis or apoptosis. Unfortunately, recent studies indicate that a proportion of cells undergo necrosis rather than apoptosis, which limits the use of TUD-1 as a secure treatment. On the other hand, lithium considered as necrosis inhibitor element. Hence, the current study based on the idea of producing a new Li-TUD-1 by incorporated mesoporous silica (TUD-1 type) with lithium in order to produce a new compound that has the ability to activate apoptosis by mesoporous silica (TUD-1 type) and at the same time can inhibit the activity of necrosis by lithium. Herein, lithium incorporated in TUD-1 mesoporous silica by using sol-gel technique in one-step synthesis procedure. Moreover, lithium incorporated in TUD-1 with different loading in order to form different active sites such as isolated lithium ions, nanoparticles of Li2O, and bulky crystals of Li2O. The ability of the new compounds to induce apoptosis and prevent necrosis was evaluated on three different types of cancer cell lines, which are; liver HepG-2, breast MCF-7, and colon HCT116. The obtained results show that Li-TUD-1 has the ability to control necrosis and thus reduce the side effects of treatments containing silica in the case of lithium added to them, especially in chronic cases. This opinion has demonstrated by the significant increase in the IC50 value and cell viability compared to control groups. Consequently, the idea is new, so it needs more develop and test with materials that have a more apoptotic impact than silica to induce apoptosis without induction of necrosis.

Abstract
We report the photochemical carboxylation of o-phenylenedimamine in the absence of a base and an electron donor under an atmosphere of CO2, which afforded 2,3-diaminobenzoic acid (DBA) in 28% synthetic yield and 0.22% quantum yield (Φ(%)). The synthetic yield of DBA in this reaction increased to 58% (Φ(%) = 0.47) in the presence of Fe(II). The photochemical reaction described in this work provides an effective strategy to use light as the driving force for the direct carboxylation of organic molecules by CO2.

Abstract
The synthesis of a new iridium(I) complex containing an enamido phosphine anion (dbuP- ) and its unique reactivity with CO2 is reported. The complex binds two equivalents of CO2 and initiates a highly selective reaction cascade. The reaction leads to the reversible cleavage of CO2 and the enamido ligand as well. Computational analysis points to the existence of a relatively stable Ir-CO2 complex as a reaction intermediate prior to CO2 cleavage, which was confirmed experimentally. The observed transformation resembles several aspects of enzymatic CO2 fixation by RuBisCO.
