Abstract
Reactions of o-carborane-fused diborane(4) with 3H-diazirines led to the complete cleavage of the N[double bond, length as m-dash]N bond, with one nitrogen atom being incorporated into the B-B bond. The molecular and electronic structures of the resultant borylnitrogen compounds were confirmed through single-crystal X-ray analyses and computational studies. The related reaction mechanism was investigated using DFT calculations.

Abstract
Nine different coinage metal (Cu, Ag) π complexes of diborenes with various anionic diborene (aryl, heteroaryl) and metal substituents (Cl, Br, C6F5, C2SiMe3), stabilizing neutral donors (N-heterocyclic carbene = NHC, phosphine), configurations (cis/trans, acyclic/cyclic diborene), and charges (neutral, cationic) were synthesized and characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallographic analyses. Their optical properties were investigated by UV-vis absorption and steady-state as well as time-resolved luminescence spectroscopy in solution and the solid state to gain insights into the excited-state behavior of this unusual class of photoactive compounds and to provide structure-property relationships. The structural and electronic modification of the (B═B)···M motif greatly influences not only the visible light absorption but also the photostability and quantum yields, which can reach high values of up to f = 0.42. The lifetimes are found in the nanosecond regime, providing estimated radiative rate constants over a wide range of kr = 1.3-14 × 107 s-1, indicative of fluorescence. Intersystem crossing (ISC) is sufficiently slow for prompt emission from the S1 state to be observed, while the spin-orbit coupling in the T1 state is too weak for phosphorescence to occur at room temperature. ISC can be accelerated, however, by modifying diborene ligand substitution and the coinage metal center, hinting at the potential for exploiting the properties of long-lived triplet excited states of metal diborene complexes in the future.

Abstract
In contrast to classical B–B bond-centred diborene hydrogenation, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon-substituted diborenes first undergo thermal intramolecular hydroarylation, followed by hydrogenation of the remaining B–B and endocyclic B–C bonds.

Abstract
Incorporation of cationic boron atoms into molecular frameworks is an established strategy for creating chemical species with unusual bonding and reactivity but is rarely thought of as a way of enhancing molecular optoelectronic properties. Using boron formazanate dyes as examples, we demonstrate that the wavelengths, intensities, and type of the first electronic transitions in BN heterocycles can be modulated by varying the charge, coordination number, and supporting ligands at the cationic boron atom. UV-vis absorption spectroscopy measurements and density-functional (DFT) calculations show that these modulations are caused by changes in the geometry and extent of π-conjugation of the boron formazanate ring. These findings suggest a new strategy for designing optoelectronic materials based on π-conjugated heterocycles containing boron and other main-group elements.

Abstract
The reductive coupling of an N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) stabilized (dibromo)vinylborane yields a 1,2-divinyldiborene, which, although isoelectronic to a 1,3,5-triene, displays no extended π conjugation because of twisting of the C2 B2 C2 chain. While this divinyldiborene coordinates to copper(I) and platinum(0) in an η2 -B2 and η4 -C2 B2 fashion, respectively, it undergoes a complex rearrangement to an η4 -1,3-diborete upon complexation with nickel(0).

Abstract
Singly NHC-coordinated (aminoboryl)aminoborenium salts react with Na2 [Fe(CO)4 ] to yield stable coordination complexes of aminoborylene-stabilized aminoborylenes, which exhibit exceptional σ-donor properties. Upon photolytic CO extrusion from the metal center, the diboron ligand adopts a novel η3 -BBN coordination mode, where bond-strengthening backdonation from the metal center into the vacant B-B π-orbital is observed. This bonding situation can be alternatively described as a Fe-diaminodiborene complex. In a related reduction of CAAC-stabilized (aminoboryl)aminoborenium with KC8 , the reduced species can be captured with nucleophiles to form three-coordinate (diaminoboryl)borylenes, where both amino groups have migrated to the distal boron atom. Collectively, these reactions illustrate the isomeric flexibility imparted by amino groups on this reduced diboron system, thus opening multiple avenues of novel reactivity.

A set of diboryldiborenes are prepared by the mild, catalyst-free, room-temperature diboration of the B–B triple bonds of doubly base-stabilized diborynes. Two of the product diboryldiborenes are found to be air- and water-stable in the solid state, an effect that is attributed to their high crystallinity and extreme insolubility in a wide range of solvents.

Abstract
The reactivity of two nucleophilic neutral sp2-sp3 diboranes towards chalcogens is presented herein. Both diboranes(5) serve as two-electron reductants, incorporating oxygen, sulfur and selenium atoms. Treatment with chalcogen sources results in the oxidative insertion of one chalcogen atom into the B-B single bond, while depending on the negative inductive effect of the chalcogen and the boron bound aryl substituent further N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ring expansion and hydride migration can occur. These reactions provide access to unprecedented six- or seven-membered heterocycles and help to illuminate the pseudo-multiple bonding character of hydrogen-bridged B-B single bonds.

Abstract
The lability of B=B, B-P, and B-halide bonds is combined in the syntheses of the first diiododiborenes. In a series of reactivity tests, these diiododiborenes undergo cleavage of all six of their central bonds in different ways, leading to products of B=B hydrogenation and dihalogenation as well as halide exchange.

Abstract
The desymmetrization of the cyclic (alkyl)(amino)carbene-supported diboracumulene B2(cAACMe)2 (cAACMe = 1-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-3,3,5,5-tetramethylpyrrolidin-2-ylidene) by monoadduct formation with IMeMe (1,3-dimethylimidazol-2-ylidene) yields the zerovalent sp-sp2 diboron compound B2(cAACMe)2(IMeMe), which provides a versatile platform for the synthesis of novel symmetrical and unsymmetrical zerovalent sp2-sp2 diboron compounds by adduct formation with IMeMe and CO, respectively. Furthermore, B2(cAACMe)2(IMeMe) displays enhanced reactivity compared to its symmetrical precursor, undergoing spontaneous intramolecular C-H activation and facile twofold hydrogenation, the latter resulting in B-B bond cleavage and the formation of the mixed-base parent borylene (cAACMe)(IMeMe)BH.

Abstract
Direct structural evidence for group 11 metal-mediated B-B bond activation was obtained from reactions of tri(tert-butyl)azadiboriridine (1) with AuCl(L) complexes. The AuCl(SMe2) reaction afforded [η2-B,B-B(tBu)N(tBu)B(tBu)]AuCl (2) by ligand displacement. More donating phosphines as co-ligands led to B-B bond cleavage accompanied by either halide or L migration to form boron-gold complexes 3 (L = PPh3) and 4 (L = PMe3). A similar product 5, which is isostructural to 4, was obtained by the addition of dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) to 2-4. Complexes 2-5 constitute rare examples of metal complexes bearing two Lewis acidic centres. The effect of the boryl ligand was demonstrated in the formation of a gold(i) complex 6 bearing a 5-membered heterocycle from 3 and tert-butylisonitrile. Plausible reaction mechanisms that led to these complexes and their bonding situation were explored computationally at the DFT level.
