Abstract
Understanding the mechanism of disulfide bond cleavage is important in various scientific disciplines including organic synthesis, catalysis, and biochemistry. In this study, an in silico investigation has been carried out for the dissociation of disulfide bonds using newly designed frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs). The study revealed that the cleavage of the disulfide bond by the FLP P(tBu)3/B(C2NBSHF2)3 can also be used like the conventional FLP (tBu)3P/B(C6F5)3. It has been observed that the reaction is almost thermoneutral in the gas phase but exothermic in nonpolar solvents, such as toluene, heptane, and hexane. Furthermore, the natural bond orbital (NBO) describes insights into the role of FLPs in facilitating this reaction. Additionally, reaction force and force constant studies shed light on the energy requirements for completing the reaction and the synchronous nature of the dissociation process, respectively. Reaction electronic flux (REF) and its separations give the pattern of electronic activity during the chemical reaction. Extended transition state-natural orbitals for chemical valence (ETS-NOCV) and principal interacting orbital (PIO) analysis provide valuable information about the orbital interactions during the chemical reaction.

Abstract
Since the seminal discovery of phenyl azide by Grieß in 1864, a variety of organic azides (R-N3) have been developed and extensively studied. The amenability of azides to a number of reactions has expanded their utility as building blocks not only in organic synthesis but also in bioorthogonal chemistry and materials science. Over the decades, it has been demonstrated that the reactions of main group compounds with azides lead to diverse N-containing main group molecules. In view of the pronounced progress in this area, this review summarizes the reactions of main group compounds with azides, emphatically introducing their reaction patterns and mechanisms. The reactions of forming inorganic nitrogen species are not included in this review.

Abstract
We describe a novel gold chloride complex supported by an ambiphilic phosphine/xanthylium ligand in which the AuCl moiety interacts with the π+ surface of the xanthylium unit as indicated by structural studies. Energy decomposition analyses carried out on a model system indicates the prevalence of non-covalent interactions in which the electrostatic and dispersion terms cumulatively dominate. The presence of these AuCl-π+ interactions correlates with the high catalytic activity of this complex in the cyclisation of 2-(phenylethynyl)phenylboronic acid, N-propargyl-t-butylamide, and 2-allyl-2-(2-propynyl)malonate. Comparison with the significantly less active acridinium and the 9-oxa-10-boraanthracene analogues reinforces this conclusion.

Abstract
A unified strategy for the deoxygenative or desulfurative pyridylation of various alcohols and thiols has been developed through a single-electron transfer (SET) process of frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs) derived from pyridinium salts and PtBu3 . Mechanistic studies revealed that N-amidopyridinium salts serve as effective Lewis acids for the formation of FLPs with PtBu3 , and the generated phosphine radical cation ionically couples with the in situ generated xanthate, eventually affording the alkyl radical through facile β-scission under photocatalyst-free conditions. The reaction efficiency was further accelerated by visible-light irradiation. This method is conceptually appealing by using encounter complexes in FLP chemistry to promote SET, which provides a previously unrecognized opportunity for the selective heteroarylation of a diverse range of alcohols and thiols with various functional groups, even in complex settings under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract
This study investigates the mechanism of metal-free pyridine phosphination with P(OEt)3, PPh3, and PAr2CF3 using density functional theory calculations. The results show that the reaction mechanism and rate-determining step vary depending on the phosphine and additive used. For example, phosphination of pyridine with P(OEt)3 occurs in five stages, and ethyl abstraction is the rate-determining step. Meanwhile, 2-Ph-pyridine phosphination with PPh3 is a four-step reaction with proton abstraction as the rate-limiting step. Energy decomposition analysis of the transition states reveals that steric hindrance in the phosphine molecule plays a key role in the site-selective formation of the phosphonium salt. The mechanism of 2-Ph-pyridine phosphination with PAr2CF3 is similar to that with PPh3, and analyses of the effects of substituents show that electron-withdrawing groups decreased the nucleophilicity of the phosphine, whereas aryl electron-donating groups increased it. Finally, TfO− plays an important role in the C–H fluoroalkylation of pyridine, as it brings weak interactions.

Abstract
The germylene species (CH{(CMe)(2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 N)}2 )GePCO 1 is shown to react with the Lewis acids (E(C6 F5 )3 E=B, Al). Nonetheless, 1 participates in FLP chemistry with electron deficient alkynes or olefins, acting as an intramolecular FLP. In contrast, in the presence of B(C6 F5 )3 and an electron rich alkyne, 1 behaves as Ge-based nucleophile to effect intermolecular FLP addition to the alkyne. This reactivity demonstrates that the reaction pathway is controlled by the nature of the electrophile and nucleophile generated in solution, as revealed by extensive DFT calculations.

Abstract
Frustrated Lewis pairs (FLP) which rely on the cooperative action of Lewis acids and Lewis bases, played a prominent role in the advancement of main-group catalysis. While the early days of FLP chemistry witnessed the dominance of boranes, there is a growing body of reports on alternative Lewis acids derived from groups 14 and 15. This short review focuses on the discovery of such non-boron candidates reported since 2015.

Abstract
We report the reactivity between the water stable Lewis acidic trioxatriangulenium ion (TOTA+) and a series of Lewis bases such as phosphines and N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC). The nature of the Lewis acid-base interaction was analyzed via variable temperature (VT) NMR spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, UV-visible spectroscopy, and DFT calculations. While small and strongly nucleophilic phosphines, such as PMe3, led to the formation of a Lewis acid-base adduct, frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs) were observed for sterically hindered bases such as P( t Bu)3. The TOTA+-P( t Bu)3 FLP was characterized as an encounter complex, and found to promote the heterolytic cleavage of disulfide bonds, formaldehyde fixation, dehydrogenation of 1,4-cyclohexadiene, heterolytic cleavage of the C-Br bonds, and interception of Staudinger reaction intermediates. Moreover, TOTA+ and NHC were found to first undergo single-electron transfer (SET) to form [TOTA]·[NHC]˙+, which was confirmed via electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, and subsequently form a [TOTA-NHC]+ adduct or a mixture of products depending the reaction conditions used.

Abstract
The reaction between a 1-azido-(2-halogenomethyl)benzene and a phosphine gives different products depending on the nature of the halogen, the phosphine itself, and the solvent employed. While PPh3 (2 equiv) reacts with the chloro reagent in toluene to give the expected iminophosphorane-phosphonium adduct, trialkylphosphines (PCy3 and PEt3) surprisingly furnish an aminophosphonium substituted by a zwitterionic indazole. The bicyclic product can also form from PPh3 using the bromo reagent in acetonitrile. A mechanism is proposed for this cyclization based on DFT calculations.

Abstract
The active Lewis pairs (ALPs) 2,6-Me2H8C5N–C(H) = C(SiMe3)–AlR2 (1a: R =
t
Bu, 1b, R =

Bu) have strained AlC2N heterocycles and relatively weak Al–N bonds. They react readily with a series of organic azides R′N3 [R′ = Ph, CH2C6H4(4-
t
Bu),
t
Bu, SiMe3, CH2Ph] by cleavage of the heterocycles and addition of the azides with their α-N atoms to the Al atom. The Al–N interactions result in an activation of the azide groups which insert into the C–Si bonds of the vinyl groups with their terminal γ-N atoms. Compounds with approximately planar five-membered AlCN3 heterocycles and intact N3 groups are formed in highly selective reactions.

Abstract
The geminal frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) tBu2 PCH2 BPh2 (1) reacts with phenyl-, mesityl-, and tert-butyl azide affording, respectively, six, five, and four-membered rings as isolable products. DFT calculations revealed that the formation of all products proceeds via the six-membered ring structure, which is thermally stable with an N-phenyl group, but rearranges when sterically more encumbered Mes-N3 and tBu-N3 are used. The reaction of 1 with Me3 Si-N3 is believed to follow the same course, yet subsequent N2 elimination occurs to afford a four-membered heterocycle (5), which can be considered as a formal FLP-trimethylsilylnitrene adduct. Compound 5 reacts with hydrochloric acid or tetramethylammonium fluoride and showed frustrated Lewis pair reactivity towards phenylisocyanate.

Abstract
Frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) chemistry enables a rare example of alkyne 1,2-hydrocarbation with N-methylacridinium salts as the carbon Lewis acid. This 1,2-hydrocarbation process does not proceed through a concerted mechanism as in alkyne syn-hydroboration, or through an intramolecular 1,3-hydride migration as operates in the only other reported alkyne 1,2-hydrocarbation reaction. Instead, in this study, alkyne 1,2-hydrocarbation proceeds by a novel mechanism involving alkyne dehydrocarbation with a carbon Lewis acid based FLP to form the new C-C bond. Subsequently, intermolecular hydride transfer occurs, with the Lewis acid component of the FLP acting as a hydride shuttle that enables alkyne 1,2-hydrocarbation.
