Abstract
Two different organometallic gold(I) compounds containing naphthalene and phenanthrene as fluorophores and 2-pyridyldiphenylphosphane as the ancillary ligand were synthesized (compounds 1 with naphthalene and 2 with phenanthrene). They were reacted with three different copper(I) salts with different counterions (PF6-, OTf-, and BF4-; OTf = triflate) to obtain six Au(I)/Cu(I) heterometallic clusters (compounds 1a-c for naphthalene derivatives and 2a-c for phenanthrene derivatives). The heterometallic compounds present red pure room-temperature phosphorescence in both solution, the solid state, and air-equilibrated samples, as a difference with the dual emission recorded for the gold(I) precursors 1 and 2. The presence of Au(I)-Cu(I) metallophilic contacts has been identified using single-crystal X-ray diffraction structure resolution of two of the compounds, which play a direct role in the resulting red-shifted emission with respect to the gold(I) homometallic precursors. Polystyrene (PS) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) polymeric matrices were doped with our luminescent compounds, and the resulting changes in their emissive properties were analyzed and compared with those previously recorded in the solution and the solid state. All complexes were tested to analyze their ability to produce 1O2 and present very good values of ΦΔ up to 50%.

Abstract
The coordination behavior of tris(2-pyridyl)arsine (Py3As) has been studied for the first time on the example of the reactions with CuI, CuBr and AgClO4. When treated with CuI in CH2Cl2 medium, Py3As unexpectedly affords the scorpionate complex [Cu(Py3As)I]∙CH2Cl2 only, while this reaction in MeCN selectively leads to the dimer [Cu2(Py3As)2I2]. At the same time, the interaction of CuBr with Py3As exclusively gives the dimer [Cu2(Py3As)2Br2]. It is interesting to note that the scorpionate [Cu(Py3As)I]∙CH2Cl2, upon fuming with a MeCN vapor (r.t., 1 h), undergoes quantitative dimerization into the dimer [Cu2(Py3As)2I2]. The reaction of Py3As with AgClO4 produces complex [Ag@Ag4(Py3As)4](CIO4)5 featuring a Ag-centered Ag4 tetrahedral kernel. At ambient temperature, the obtained Cu(I) complexes exhibit an unusually short-lived photoluminescence, which can be tentatively assigned to the thermally activated delayed fluorescence of (M + X) LCT type (M = Cu, L = Py3As; X = halogen). For the title Ag(I) complexes, QTAIM calculations reveal the pronounced argentophilic interactions for all short Ag∙∙∙Ag contacts (3.209–3.313 Å).

Abstract
We report herein a family of polynuclear complexes, [Au@Ag4(Py3P)4]X5 and [Au@Cu4(Py3P)4]X5 [X = NO3, ClO4, OTf, BF4, SbF6], containing unprecedented Au-centered Ag4 and Cu4 tetrahedral cores supported by tris(2-pyridyl)phosphine (Py3P) ligands. The [Au@Ag4]5+ clusters are synthesized via controlled substitution of the central Ag(I) ion in all-silver [Ag@Ag4]5+ precursors by the reaction with Au(tht)Cl, while the [Au@Cu4]5+ cluster is assembled through the treatment of a pre-organized [Au(Py3P)4]+ metallo-ligand with 4 equiv of a Cu(I) source. The structure of the Au@M4 clusters has been experimentally and theoretically investigated to reveal very weak intermolecular Au-M metallophilic interactions. At ambient temperature, the designed compounds emit a modest turquoise-to-yellow luminescence with microsecond lifetimes. Based on the temperature-dependent photophysical experiments and DFT/TD-DFT computations, the emission observed has been assigned to an MLCT or LLCT type depending on composition of the cluster core.

Abstract
Supramolecular main group chemistry is a developing field which parallels the conventional domain of metallo-organic chemistry. Little explored building blocks in this area are main group metal-based ligands which have the appropriate donor symmetry to build desired molecular or extended arrangements. Tris(pyridyl) main group ligands (E(py)3 , E=main group metal) are potentially highly versatile building blocks since shifting the N-donor arms from the 2- to the 3-positions and 4-positions provides a very simple way of changing the ligand character from mononuclear/chelating to multidentate/metal-bridging. Here, the coordination behaviour of the first main group metal tris(4-pyridyl) ligands, E(4-py)3 (E=Sb, Bi, Ph-Sn) is explored, as well as their ability to build metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The complicated topology of these MOFs shows a marked influence on the counter anion and on the ability of the E(4-py)3 ligands to switch coordination mode, depending on the steric and donor character of the bridgehead. This structure-directing influence of the bridgehead provides a potential building strategy for future molecular and MOF design in this area.

Abstract
Tripodal ligands with main group bridghead units are well established in coordination chemistry and single-site organometallic catalysis. Although a large number of tris(2-pyridyl) main group ligands [E(2-py)3] (E = main group element, 2-py = 2-pyridyl) spanning across the whole p-block are now synthetically acessible, only limited work has been done on the coordination chemistry on the tris(2-pyridyl) group 15 ligands for the heavier elements (As, Sb). In the current study we investigate the coordination chemistry of the ligand family E(6-Me-2-py)3 (E = As, Sb) and of the As(v) ligand O[double bond, length as m-dash]As(6-Me-2-py)3. The air- and mositure-stability of all of these main group ligands makes them especially attractive in future catalytic applications.

Abstract
Copper subgroup metal ions in the +1 oxidation state are classical candidates for aggregation via non-covalent metal-metal interactions, which are supported by a number of bridging ligands. The bridging phosphines, soft donors with a relatively labile coordination to coinage metals, serve as convenient and essential components of the ligand environment that allow for efficient self-assembly of discrete polynuclear aggregates. Simultaneously, accessible and rich modification of the organic spacer of such P-donors has been used to generate many fascinating structures with attractive photoluminescent behavior. In this work we consider the development of di- and polynuclear complexes of M(i) (M = Cu, Ag, Au) and their photophysical properties, focusing on the effect of phosphine bridging ligands, their flexibility and denticity.

Abstract
A set of alkynyl-tris(2-pyridyl)phosphine Au(i) complexes was synthesized and characterized. Free coordination functions on the ligand environment periphery, namely 'scorpionate' PPy3 and the C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C bond, allowed these ditopic metalloligands to be selectively linked to 1D coordination polymers by reaction with Cu(i), which used both Cu-(N-PPy3) and Cu-(η2-C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C) coordination modes. Single-crystal and powder XRD, NMR, and XPS techniques were used to characterize the coordination polymers obtained. Heterobimetallic Au(i)-Cu(i) coordination polymers demonstrate triplet photoluminescence which was studied by spectroscopic and computational methods to understand the pathway of energy transfer inside the chain of linked chromophore centres. The intriguing feature of the electronic structure of heterobimetallic supramolecular assemblies is the 'long-distance' electronic transition involving PhC2 and PPy3 ligands located at a distance of more than 1 nm from each other. Thus, the assembly of a heterobimetallic coordination polymer from relatively simple 'building blocks' retains the block-wise nature of the electronic structure, but the photophysical properties of the polymer are fundamentally different from the properties of discrete organometallic components.

Abstract
![]()
Here
we describe the formation of a trigonal prismatic cage, utilizing
2-formyl-1,8-naphthyridine subcomponents to bind pairs of silver(I)
ions in close proximity. This cage is the first example of a new class
of subcomponent self-assembled polyhedral structures having bimetallic
vertices, as opposed to the single metal centers that typically serve
as structural elements within such cages. Our new cage self-assembles
around a pair of anionic templates, which are shown by crystallographic
and solution-phase data to bind within the central cavity of the structure.
Many different anions serve as competent templates and guests. Elongated
dianions, such as the strong oxidizing agent peroxysulfate, also serve
to template and bind within the cavity of the prism. The principle
of using subcomponents that have more than one spatially close, but
nonchelating, binding site may thus allow access to other higher-order
structures with multimetallic vertices.
