Abstract
As one of the essential trace elements in life activities, copper ion (Cu2+) plays a very important role in human health. However, copper-containing pesticides are usually used for sterilization and disinfestation in agriculture. Thus, the residues of copper-containing pesticides in agricultural samples increase the risk of excessive intake of Cu2+ for human. The development of an effective method for detecting Cu2+ is still an important task. Herein, a detecting system based on AuNCs@ZIF-8 modified paper and smartphone platform was developed for visual detection of Cu2+ in agricultural samples. Herein, a detecting system based on AuNCs@ZIF-8 modified paper and smartphone platform was developed for visual detection of Cu2+ in agricultural samples. In the detecting system, gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) were packaged by ZIF-8 to limit their molecular motion and enhance the fluorescence effectively. In the meanwhile, by ultrasound-assisted biomimetic mineralizing, AuNCs@ZIF-8 composites were uniformly synthesized in situ on the surface of the paper fibers to indicate Cu2+ by fluorescence quenching. A portable visual monitoring system consisted of the prepared Cu2+ paper sensor and a smartphone platform was then successfully built and applied to on site detecting Cu2+ in agricultural samples. The limit of detection (LOD) was 4.57 μM and recovery rate varied from 96.50 % to 121.58 %. The developed detecting system for Cu2+ has the advantages of easy preparation and operation, and is very suitable for the use in agricultural products and farmland.

Abstract
A novel ratiometric fluorescence strategy for sulfide ions (S2-) analysis has been developed using metal-organic framework (MOF)-based nanozyme. NH2-Cu-MOF displays blue fluorescence (λem = 435 nm) originating from 2-amino-1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid ligand. Besides, it possesses oxidase-like activity due to Cu2+ node, which can trigger chromogenic reaction. o-Phenylenediamine (OPD), as a common enzyme substrate, can be oxidized by NH2-Cu-MOF to form luminescent products (oxOPD) (λem = 570 nm). Inner filter effect occurs between oxOPD and MOF. Upon exposure to S2-, oxidase-like activity of MOF is depressed significantly because of the generation of CuS. On one hand, the amount of free Cu2+ decreases, affecting the yielding of oxOPD. On the other hand, CuNPs with larger size are obtained during the oxidation-reduction reaction between Cu2+ and OPD, which show weaker autocatalytic ability for OPD oxidation. These result in the decrease and increase of intensities at 570 and 435 nm, respectively. This method exhibits sensitive and selective responses towards S2- with LOD of 0.1 μM. Furthermore, such ratiometric strategy has been applied to detect S2- in food samples.

Abstract
In this work, we have found for the first time that the fluorescence of rhodamine B (RhB) would be dramatically reduced after it bound to hemin/G-quadruplex and reacted with •OH. Based on this finding, we have designed a colorimetric and fluorescent dual-mode sensing platform for visual detection of hydrogen sulfide (H2S). The constructed sensor is based on the formation of dsDNA and the G-quadruplex structure by the cytosine-Ag+-cytosine mismatch, causing H2O2-mediated catalysis to oxidize ABTS or RhB to induce a colorimetric or fluorescent change. In the presence of H2S, the solution color for colorimetric and fluorescent assays would change from dark green to pink and from green (fluorescence off) to bright yellow (fluorescence on), respectively. This dual-mode assay showed high selectivity toward H2S over other interference materials with a low measurable detection limit value (below than 2.5 μM), and it has been successfully applied to H2S visual detection in real samples. Moreover, the dual-mode sensing strategy presented an excellent reutilization character both in colorimetric and fluorescent assays. This method was employed as a label-free, simple, fast, and equipment-free platform for H2S detection with high selectivity and reusability. This work realized naked-eye detection both in colorimetric and fluorescent analysis at a lower concentration of H2S, demonstrating a promising strategy for on-site visual detection of H2S.

Abstract
Baijiu occupies a vital position in Chinese food and China's market. Strict evaluation of Baijiu is highly demanded. In this study, we constructed a novel fluorescent sensor array based on the single glutathione-protected gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) probe for the detection of organic acids and Baijiu. The fluorescence of AuNCs was simply modulated by three metal ions (Cu2+, Mn2+, and Ag+), and formed new complexes as sensing elements. These four sensing elements responded variously to nine organic acids, and further chemometric analysis results allowed for the classification and quantification of acids. Moreover, the sensor array successfully identified 21 Baijiu samples of different brands among 11 aroma types. It could also distinguish Baijiu of different qualities as well as pure Baijiu from its adulterations and showed high selectivity among multiple interfering drinks. The results demonstrated that the AuNCs-based sensor array has considerable potential for quality monitoring of Baijiu.

Abstract
Gold nanoclusters (Au NCs) with luminescence property are emerging as promising candidates in fluorescent methods for monitoring contaminants, but low luminescence efficiency hampers their extensive applications. Herein, GSH-Au NCs@ZIF-8 was designed by encapsulating GSH-Au NCs with AIE effect into metal-organic frameworks, achieving high luminescence efficiency and good stability through the confinement effect of ZIF-8. Accordingly, a fluorescent sensing platform was constructed for the sensitive detection of copper ions (Cu2+) and organophosphorus pesticides (OPs). Firstly, the as-prepared GSH-Au NCs@ZIF-8 could strongly accumulate Cu2+ due to the adsorption property of MOFs, accompanied by a significant fluorescence quenching effect with a low detection limit of 0.016 μM for Cu2+. Besides, thiocholine (Tch), the hydrolysis product of acetylthiocholine (ATch) by acetylcholinesterase (AchE), could coordinate with Cu2+ by sulfhydryl groups (-SH), leading to a significant fluorescence recovery, which was further used for the quantification of OPs owing to its inhibition to AChE activity. Furthermore, a hydrogel sensor was explored to accomplish equipment-free, visual, and quantitative monitoring of Cu2+ and OPs by a smartphone sensing platform. Overall, this work provides an effective and universal strategy for enhancing the luminescence efficiency and stability of Au NCs, which would greatly promote their applications in contaminants monitoring.

Abstract
Captopril (CP) is a widely used antihypertensive drug. In this study, a smartphone-assisted sensing platform on the basis of ratiometric fluorescent test strips was developed, which can accomplish visualization for the quantitative detection of captopril. Ratiometric fluorescent probe was constructed from carbon dots (CDs) and gold nanoclusters (Au NCs). After adding Cu2+ to fluorescent probe, Cu2+ can complex the amino and carboxyl groups on the surface of Au NCs and aggregate Au NCs, which will quench the fluorescence of Au NCs. Compared with amino and carboxyl groups, -SH in CP has a higher affinity for Cu2+ and can capture Cu2+ to restore Au NCs fluorescence. In this process, CDs remained essentially unchanged as background fluorescence. As CP concentration increased, the fluorescence color showed a distinct change from blue to purple to orange. Based on this principle, a sensing platform combining smartphone and fluorescent test strips was constructed to visualize the quantitative detection of CP by RGB values. Under optimal conditions, the wide linear range of CP detection for both fluorescence spectrometer and smartphone paper-based sensing platform was 0.25-50 μM. The limits of detection were as low as 76 nM and 101.3 nM, respectively. Furthermore, it was implemented successfully for the detection of CP in urine. The satisfactory recoveries were 96.0-103.3% and 92.0-108.0% for fluorescence spectrometer and smartphone platform, respectively. This smartphone-assisted platform provided a new approach for visual detection of CP, which showed its great potential in bioanalytical assays.

Abstract
Gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) have attracted much attention for tumor theranostics in recent years because of their ability of renal clearance and to escape the reticuloendothelial system (RES) sequestration. In this study, we presented a novel method to synthesize 68Ga-doped (labeled) AuNCs by simultaneous reduction of 68GaCl3 and HAuCl4 by glutathione. As synthesized 68Ga-doped, glutathione-coated AuNCs (68Ga-GSH@AuNCs) were ultrasmall in size (<2 nm), highly stable under physiological conditions and renally clearable, and had high efficiency for tumor targeting. To demonstrate the universality of this 68Ga labeling method and further enhance tumor targeting efficiency, arginine-glycine-aspartate (RGD)-containing peptide was introduced as co-reductant to synthesize RGD peptide and glutathione co-coated, 68Ga-labeled AuNCs (68Ga-RGD-GSH@AuNCs). Introduction of RGD peptide did not interfere the synthesis process but significantly enhanced the tumor targeting efficiency of the AuNCs. Our study demonstrated that it was feasible to label AuNCs with gallium-68 by direct reduction of the radioisotope and HAuCl4 with reductant peptides, holding a great potential for clinical translation for PET/CT detection of tumors.

Abstract
Instrument-free, portable and direct read-out mini-devices have wider application prospects in various fields, especially for real-time/on-site detection in environmental science. Herein, a colorimetric fluorescent sensor for detecting cadmium ions (Cd2+) based on aggregation-induced emission (AIE) was established, fluorescent paper strips integrated with smartphone platform was further designed for the visualization, on-site and quantitative detection of Cd2+. The colorimetric fluorescent sensor was prepared by mixing orange emission glutathione-stabilized gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) with blue emission ethylenediamine functionalized graphene oxide (EDA-GO), and introducing copper ions (Cu2+) to quench the orange emission of AuNCs while the blue emission served as a background reference without color change. The Cd2+ can induce Cu2+-GSH-AuNCs to aggregation and emit orange fluorescence, causing the fluorescent color of the sensor changed from blue to red with the limit of detection (LOD) as low as 33.3 nM in solution. Moreover, fluorescent paper strips integrated with smartphone platform has a sensitive detection of Cd2+ with the LOD of 0.1 μM in rice samples. The method reported here might have great application prospects in real-time monitoring of foods safety and environmental protection.

Abstract
Antibiotic-based gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) are a good sensing platform for specific recognition; however, the related studies are few. Herein, a simple and facile strategy was proposed for the fabrication of bright blue fluorescent AuNCs through the degradation product (DCTX) of cefotaxime sodium that induced the reduction of HAuCl4. Various analytical techniques were applied to characterize the prepared AuNCs@DCTX. AuNCs@DCTX exhibited a strong emission peak centered at 420 nm and a quantum yield of 11.8%. Furthermore, an aggregation-induced fluorescence quenching mode endowed the AuNCs@DCTX probe with good specificity and sensitivity for Cu2+ detection. The proposed probe had a linear range of 0.01–40 μM, a precision with a relative standard deviation of 1.2% (n = 8), and a detection limit of 8 nM (signal/noise = 3). Interestingly, the probe could be reused through switching the “off” and “on” states by the addition of Cu2+ and EDTA. The practicality of the sensing platform was investigated for the determination of Cu2+ in four Chinese herbal medicines (CHMs), and the results were in accordance with those obtained by the FAAS method. This study has provided an alternate way for the fabrication of thiolate-protected AuNCs for sensing applications. Antibiotic-based gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) are a good sensing platform for specific recognition; however, the related studies are few.![]()
