Abstract
The use of montmorillonite clay as solid catalyst has grabbed much attention in the liquid phase reactions for organic synthesis. In recent years, there has been a lot of interest in organic synthesis using montmorillonite-based composites, especially in the synthesis of heterogeneous nanoparticles. Due to the robust and green nature of montmorillonite-based nanocatalysts, it has been widely used in N-heterocyclic reactions. In this review, we have concentrated on the reports pertaining the use of montmorillonite-based nanocatalyst in the synthesis of N-heterocycles, a category of organic compounds with excellent biological properties. This manuscript is arranged by the types of N-containing heterocycles synthesized using montmorillonite-based composite as catalysts including polycyclic spirooxindoles, heterocyclic propargylamine, indole-based heterocycles, quinoline and its derivatives, six-membered N-heterocyclic-based compounds and five-membered N-heterocyclic-based compounds. Special attention was given to the structural stability under experimental parameters of the montmorillonite-based composite with the incidence of metal leaching and reusability. Finally, along with recent developments, new findings in heterogeneous montmorillonite (Mt)-based catalysis have also been addressed.

Abstract
In this work, reduced graphene oxide/double-walled carbon nanotubes/octahedral-Fe3O4/chitosan composite material modified screen-printed gold electrodes (rGO/DWCNTs/Oct-Fe3O4/Cs/SPAuE) under inhibition of urease enzyme was developed for the determination of glyphosate (GLY). The electrochemical behaviors of GLY on these electrodes were evaluated by square wave voltammetry (SWV). With the electroactive surface area is 1.7 times higher than that of bare SPAuE, the rGO/DWCNTs/Oct-Fe3O4/Cs/SPAuE for detection of GLY shows a low detection limit (LOD) of ~ 0.08 ppb in a large concentration range of 0.1-1000 ppb. Moreover, it is also successfully applied to the determination of GLY in river water samples with recoveries and relative standard deviations (RSDs) from 98.7% to 106.9% and from 0.79% to 0.87%, respectively. The developed composite will probably provide an universal electrochemical sensing platform that is very promising for environmental monitoring.

Abstract
A cycloaurated phosphinothioic amide gold(III) complex was supported on amorphous silica with the aid of an imidazolium ionic liquid (IL) physisorbed in the SiO₂ pores (SiO₂⁻IL) and covalently bonded to the SiO₂ (SiO₂@IL). Gold(0) nanoparticles (AuNPs) were formed in situ and subsequently immobilized on the SiO₂⁻IL/SiO₂@IL phase. The resulting catalytic systems Au⁻SiO₂⁻IL and Au⁻SiO₂@IL promoted the solvent-free A³ coupling reaction of alkynes, aldehydes, and amines in high yields under solvent-free conditions with very low catalyst loading and without the use of additives. The Au⁻SiO₂@IL catalyst showed good recyclability and could be reused at least five times with yields of propargylamines of ≥80%. This synthetic method provides a green and low cost way to effectively prepare propargylamines. Additionally, 31P high resolution magic angle spinning (HRMAS) NMR spectroscopy is introduced as a simple technique to establish the Au loading of the catalyst.

A facile synthesis methodology for preparation of Ag-Ni-reduced graphene oxide: a magnetically separable versatile nanocatalyst for multiple organic reactions and density functional study of its electronic structures. Abstract
Here, we report a simple 'in situ' co-precipitation reduction synthesis method for the preparation of nanocatalysts composed of Ag, Ni nanoparticles, and reduced graphene oxide (RGO). First-principles calculations based on Density Functional Theory (DFT) were performed to obtain the electronic structures and properties of Ag-Ni-graphene superlattice and to understand the interfacial interactions which exist at the interface between Ag, Ni, and graphene. The catalytic performance of the synthesized catalysts (Ag x Ni(1-x)) y RGO(100-y) were evaluated for four reactions (i) reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) in the presence of excess NaBH4 in aqueous medium, (ii) A3 coupling reaction for the synthesis of propargylamines, (iii) epoxidation of styrene, and (iv) 'Click reaction' for the synthesis of 1,2,3-triazole derivatives. For all of these reactions the catalyst composed of Ag, Ni, and RGO, exhibited significantly higher catalytic activity than that of pure Ag, Ni, and RGO. Moreover, an easy magnetic recovery of this catalyst from the reaction mixture after completion of the catalytic reactions and the good reusability of the recovered catalyst is also reported here. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time the demonstration of the versatile catalytic activity of (Ag x Ni(1-x)) y RGO(100-y) towards multiple reactions, and the DFT study of its electronic structure have been reported.
