Abstract
Adducts of 1-alkyl-2-imidazolines and two molecules of alkyl propiolate, possessing an N-propargyl-β-enaminoester fragment, easily undergo a domino reaction to form pyridinium salts with β-(alkylammonio)ethyl group at the nitrogen atom in the presence of 2 equiv of a protic acid. Treatment of the above reaction mixture with a base gives 1,2,3,8a-tetrahydroimidazo[1,2-a]pyridines. Reaction of the latter compounds with acid chlorides affords pyridinium salts with β-(alkylamido)ethyl moiety at the nitrogen atom.

Abstract
The transformation of 2-imidazolines into 1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazines has been realized. A pseudo-three-component reaction of 2-imidazolines with terminal electron-deficient alkynes (2 equiv) first generates imidazolidines, containing an N-vinylpropargylamine fragment. The latter can then undergo a base-catalyzed domino aza-Claisen rearrangement/cyclization reaction sequence, simultaneously constructing pyrrole and pyrazine rings. The process works in a broad substrate scope, delivering pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazines in good to excellent yields (45-90%). This two-step approach can be carried out in a one-pot fashion without a noticeable decrease in yield. Remarkably, a three-component protocol for the introduction of two different alkynes has been also developed.

Abstract
The formation of enamine from primary arylamines was detected and confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The presence of a radical quencher, e.g., (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-1-yl)oxidanyl, was found to be essential for the detection of enamine formation. A direct synthesis of α-enaminones from primary arylamines and ketones was also developed. Mechanistic investigation of α-enaminone formation suggests that an amine radical cation generated through O2 singlet energy transfer was involved in initiating α-enaminone formation. The reactivity and utility of α-enaminones were explored with a [3+3] cycloaddition reaction of enones affording dihydropyridines in good yields (58-85%). α-Enaminones displayed a set of reactivities that is different from that of enamines. The knowledge gained in this work advances our basic understanding of organic chemistry, providing insights and new opportunities in enamine catalysis.

Abstract
A wide range of N-(ethoxycarbonylmethyl)enaminones, prepared by the Eschenmoser sulfide contraction between N-(ethoxycarbonylmethyl)pyrrolidine-2-thione and various bromomethyl aryl and heteroaryl ketones, underwent cyclization in the presence of silica gel to give ethyl 6-(hetero)aryl-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrrolizine-5-carboxylates within minutes upon microwave heating in xylene at 150 °C. Instead of functioning as a nucleophile, the enaminone acted as an electrophile at its carbonyl group during the cyclization. Yields of the bicyclic products were generally above 75%. The analogous microwave-assisted reaction to produce ethyl 2-aryl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroindolizine-3-carboxylates from (E)-ethyl 2-[2-(2-oxo-2-arylethylidene)piperidin-1-yl]acetates failed in nonpolar solvents, but occurred in ethanol at lower temperature and microwave power, although requiring much longer time. A possible mechanism for the cyclization is presented, and further functionalization of the newly created pyrrole ring in the dihydropyrrolizine core is described.

Abstract
A one-pot two-step protocol for the synthesis of 2-acetyl-1H-pyrroles from N-propargylic β-enaminones was described. When treated with zinc chloride in refluxing chloroform, N-propargylic β-enaminones produced in situ 2-methylene-2,3-dihydro-1,4-oxazepines, which, upon further refluxing in methanol with zinc chloride, afforded 2-acetyl-1H-pyrroles. The process was found to be general for a wide variety of N-propargylic β-enaminones and yielded a diverse range of 2-acetyl-1H-pyrroles in good to high yields with large substrate scope and good functional group tolerance. This operationally easy method may provide a rapid access to functionalized 2-acetyl-1H-pyrroles of pharmacological interest.

Abstract
Direct difunctionalization of carbon-carbon double bonds is one of the most powerful tools available for concomitant introduction of two functional groups into olefinic substrates. In this context, vicinal hydroxysulfenylation of unactivated alkenes has emerged as a novel and straightforward strategy for the fabrication of β-hydroxy sulfides, which are extremely valuable starting materials in constructing various natural products, pharmaceuticals, and fine chemicals. The aim of this review is to summarize the most representative and important reports on the preparation of β-hydroxy sulfides through intermolecular hydroxysulfenylation of the corresponding alkenes with special emphasis on the mechanistic features of the reactions.

Abstract
This review article features selected examples on the synthesis of functionalized pyrroles that were reported between 2014 and 2019. Pyrrole is an important nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocycle that can be found in numerous compounds of biological and material significance. Given its vast importance, pyrrole continues to be an attractive target for the development of new synthetic reactions. The contents of this article are organized by the starting materials, which can be broadly classified into four different types: substrates bearing π-systems, substrates bearing carbonyl and other polar groups, and substrates bearing heterocyclic motifs. Brief discussions on plausible reaction mechanisms for most transformations are also presented.

Abstract
A double divergent process has been developed for the reaction of α-enaminones with quinones through facile manipulation of catalyst and additive, leading to structurally completely different products. The two divergent processes, which involve formal aza- and oxo-[3 + 2] cycloaddition reactions, are mediated by chiral phosphoric acid and molecular sieves, respectively. While inclusion of phosphoric acid in the reaction switched the reaction pathway to favor the efficient formation of a wide range of N-substituted indoles, addition of 4 Å molecular sieves to the reaction switched the reaction pathway again, leading to enantioselective synthesis of 2,3-dihydrobenzofurans in excellent yields and enantioselectivities under mild conditions. Studies in this work suggest that the chiral phosphoric acid acts to lower the transition state energy and promote the formation of amide intermediate for the formal aza-[3 + 2] cycloaddition and the molecular sieves serve to facilitate proton transfer for oxo-[3 + 2] cycloaddition. The reactivity of α-enaminones is also disclosed in this work.

Abstract
A facile and efficient method for the synthesis of 3-[(4-nitrophenyl)thio]-substituted 4-methylene-1-pyrrolines is described. When treated with 4-nitrobenzenesulfenyl chloride in refluxing acetonitrile, N-propargylic β-enaminones produced α-sulfenylated N-propargylic β-enaminones, which, in the presence of sodium hydride or cesium carbonate, underwent nucleophilic cyclization to afford 4-methylene-3-[(4-nitrophenyl)thio]-1-pyrrolines in good to high yields. It was shown for the first time that on N-propargylic β-enaminone systems, α-sulfenylation dominates over the formation of thiirenium ion. This one-pot two-step process was found to be general for a variety of N-propargylic β-enaminones and demonstrated good tolerance to a diversity of aromatic and heteroaromatic groups with electron-withdrawing and electron-donating substituents. This process is also applicable to the cyclization of internal alkyne-tethered N-propargylic β-enaminones. The enrichment of 1-pyrroline core with an aryl sulfide moiety might exhibit potential for the synthesis of molecules of pharmacological interest.

Abstract
This study describes a simple multigram-scale procedure for the preparation of (E)-N-(1,7,7- trimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-ylidene)nitramide, nitro-imine 2, by using both classical methods and ultrasound irradiation from 1 utilizing Camphor, a natural product, as starting material. This key intermediate 2, a good building block, is useful to prepare various substances such as terpenoids, reagents for large-scale hydroxylation and amination of organic substrates, and derivatives with anticonvulsant, hypoglycemic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antiviral activities. It can be transformed into a wide range of other derivatives which can then also be employed in inorganic chemistry. In this work, another useful derivative (E)-2-((1,7,7-trimethylbicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-ylidene)amino)ethanol 3 has been prepared from nitro-imine 2 on multigram-scale which also allows access to a variety of products of biological interest after suitable chemical transformations.

Abstract
:
Synthesis of symmetrical 1,3-diynes from terminal alkynes through an oxidative
process is generally called Glaser coupling. The classic Glaser coupling is catalyzed
by copper salts under an atmosphere of molecular oxygen as an oxidant. Over the past
years, different metal catalysts and oxidants were successfully used in this atom economical
C-C coupling reaction. Moreover, several procedures for the preparation of unsymmetrical
1,3-diynes by coupling two different alkyne substrates have been developed. In this
review, we will highlight the usefulness of transition metal nanoparticles as efficient catalysts
in homo- and hetero-coupling of alkynes by hoping that it will be beneficial to the
development of novel and extremely efficient catalytic systems for this fast-growing and
important reaction.

Abstract
A new cycloisomerisation of Z-1-iodo-4-N-methylbenzenesulfonyl-1,6-enynes to functionalized pyrroles was realized in the presence of an organomolecule (4,4'-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-2,2'-bipyridine) and KOtBu. The transformations were performed efficiently to produce different kinds of functionalized pyrroles within 10 min. This is the first example of an organomolecule promoted methodology with vinyl iodides from a non-aromatic system to an aromatic system, which offers an excellent option toward establishing a new horizon for cross-coupling reactions of vinyl halides. Preliminary mechanistic studies were performed and a crude radical pathway was proposed.

Abstract
The conversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) into value-added organic compounds has received more and more attention over recent years, not only because this gas is one of the major anthropogenic greenhouse gases, but also because it has been regarded as an abundant, inexpensive, nontoxic, nonflammable, and renewable one-carbon (C1) resource. Along these lines, the synthesis of five-membered cyclic carbonates employing CO2 as a safe alternative to toxic reagents such as phosgene or its derivatives is of great interest because of their wide range of applications in organic synthesis. However, most of CO2 incorporation reactions into carbonates are carried out in toxic and non-recyclable organic solvents. Furthermore, these transformations usually proceed at elevated pressures or supercritical CO2 conditions. Recently, several catalytic systems have been developed that allow the synthesis of functionalized carbonates from the reaction of atmospheric CO2 with corresponding epoxides under solvent-free conditions. This review is an attempt to summarize the most important advances and discoveries in this interesting research arena. The review is divided into three major sections. The first section will discuss ionic liquid catalyzed coupling reactions. The second will cover organocatalyzed reactions. The third focuses exclusively on metal-catalyzed fixations. Notably, the third section has been classified based on the metal element that carries out the catalysis (i.e. copper, palladium, zinc).

Abstract
Carboxylic acids and their derivatives are ubiquitous compounds in organic chemistry, and are widely commercially available in a large structural variety. Recently, carboxylic acids have been frequently used as non-toxic and environmentally benign alternatives to traditional organohalide coupling partners in various carbon–carbon and carbon–heteroatom cross-coupling reactions. Along this line, several methods have been reported for the synthesis of nitrogen-containing organic compounds through decarboxylative cross-coupling reactions between carboxylic acids and N–H compounds. This review focuses on recent advances and discoveries on these reactions with special attention on the mechanistic aspects of the reactions. Carboxylic acids and their derivatives are ubiquitous compounds in organic chemistry, and are widely commercially available in a large structural variety.![]()

Abstract
This review is an attempt to give an overview on the recent advances and developments in the synthesis of 2-oxazolidinone frameworks through carbon dioxide (CO2) fixation reactions under solvent-free conditions. The cycloaddition of CO2 to aziridine derivatives is discussed first. This is followed by carboxylative cyclization of N-propargylamines with CO2 and three-component coupling of epoxides, amines, and CO2. Finally, cycloaddition of CO2 to propargylic alcohols and amines will be covered at the end of the review. The literature has been surveyed up until the end of 2018. N-Substituted formamides as nucleophiles react with in situ-generated 1,4-oxazepines from N-propargylic β-enaminones followed by spontaneous N-deformylation to deliver densely substituted 2-aminopyridines in good yields (31-88%). The formyl group is found to be a superior traceless activating group of free amines and would ultimately be removed in situ. This reaction proceeds smoothly at room temperature, in the presence of NaOH as sole additive, without protection from the atmosphere and generates H2O and sodium formate as byproducts.
