Abstract
In this work, a novel and sensitive fluorescence sensing system for alkaline phosphatase (ALP) was constructed using a bifunctional copper metal-organic framework (Cu@MOF) nanozyme, which had excellent oxidase-mimetic activity and fluorescence properties. Owing to the presence of 2-amino-1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid (1,4-BDC-NH2) ligand, Cu@MOF displays excellent fluorescence performance at 444 nm. Additionally, Cu2+ endows the oxidase-like activity of Cu@MOF, which could trigger p-phenylenediamine (PPD) to be oxidized to a brown product (PPDox) and quench the photoluminescence of Cu@MOF through the inner filtration effect (IFE). As the preferential affinity of ATP for Cu2+, the catalytic activity of Cu@MOF was significantly reduced once ATP was added, thus PPD could not be oxidized and fluorescence was recovered. In the presence of ALP, ATP was hydrolyzed to adenosine and Pi, which allowed Cu@MOF to regain its catalytic activity and continued to catalyze the generation of PPDox. The fluorescence of Cu@MOF was therefore weakened once again. The ALP activity was directly proportional to the degree of decrease in fluorescence intensity. Thus, this novel fluorescence sensing strategy had a linear range of 0.5-60 U/L and the limit of detection was 0.14 U/L. The established sensing method could also be used to for ALP inhibitors screening, and achieved satisfactory results in determining the level of ALP activity in human serum.

Abstract
Metal nanoclusters (MNCs) have outstanding fluorescence property and biocompatibility, which show widespread applications in biological analysis. Particularly, evaluation of enzyme activity with the fluorescent MNCs has been developed rapidly within the past several years. In this review, we first introduced the fluorescent mechanism of mono- and bi-metallic nanoclusters, respectively, whose interesting luminescence properties are mainly resulted from electron transfer between the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) and highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy levels. Meanwhile, the charge migration within the structure occurs through ligand-metal charge transfer (LMCT) or ligand-metal-metal charge transfer (LMMCT). On such foundation, diverse enzyme activities were rigorously evaluated, including three transferases and nine hydrolases, in turn harvesting rapid research progresses within past 5 years. Finally, we summarized the design strategies for evaluating enzyme activity with the MNCs, presented the major issues and challenges remained in the relevant research, coupled by showing some improvement measures. This review will attract researchers dedicated to the studies of the MNCs and provide some constructive insights for their further applications in enzyme analysis.

Abstract
Nanoceria have demonstrated a wide array of catalytic activity similar to natural enzymes, holding considerable significance in the colorimetric detection of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), which is a biomarker of various biological disorders. However, the issues of physiological stability and formation of protein corona, which are strongly related to their surface chemistry, limit their practical application. In this work, CeO2 nanoparticles characterized by enhanced dimensional uniformity and specific surface area were synthesized, followed by encapsulation with various polymers to further increase catalytic activity and physiological stability. Notably, the CeO2 nanoparticles encapsulated within each polymer exhibited improved catalytic characteristics, with PAA-capped CeO2 exhibiting the highest performance. We further demonstrated that the PAA-CeO2 obtained with enhanced catalytic activity was attributed to an increase in surface negative charge. PAA-CeO2 enabled the quantitative assessment of AA activity within a wide concentration range of 10 to 60 μM, with a detection limit of 0.111 μM. Similarly, it allowed for the evaluation of alkaline phosphatase activity throughout a broad range of 10 to 80 U/L, with a detection limit of 0.12 U/L. These detection limits provided adequate sensitivity for the practical detection of ALP in human serum.

Abstract
Benefit from the strong coordination property, lanthanide metal ions have been used as competitive reagents to modulate the fluorescence changes of the system. However, lanthanide metal ions as inducers for aggregation-induced emission enhancement in nanosystems is rare. Herein, we report a "turn on-off-on" fluorescent switch for cascade detection of acid phosphatase (ACP) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) based on the competitive coordination of samarium ions (Sm3+). Novel copper nanoclusters (CuNCs) with long wavelength emission (614 nm) stabilized by glutathione (GSH) and glycylglycine (Gly-Gly) have been confirmed to have AIE property. With the continuous aggregation of GSH/Gly-Gly CuNCs under the induction of Sm3+, the fluorescence of the system increased to achieve the "turn-on" process. The coordinated behaviour between Sm3+ and GSH/Gly-Gly CuNCs is discussed. Due to the strong metal coordination ability of ATP, the Sm3+ coordinated with the GSH/Gly-Gly CuNCs is competed out, resulting in the fluorescence "turn-off" process of the system. As the substrate of enzymatic hydrolysis of ACP, with the continuous hydrolysis of ATP by ACP, Sm3+ coordinates with GSH/Gly-Gly CuNCs again, which leads to the AIE effect and realize the fluorescence "turn-on" process of the system. This strategy results in ATP linear range of 0.508 ~ 120.0 μM with a detection limit of 0.508 μM (S/N = 3) and ACP linear range of 0.011 ~ 30.0 U·L-1 with a detection limit of 0.011 U·L-1 (S/N = 3). Application to biologic samples was successful.

Abstract
Prebiotic membranes are one of the essential elements of the origin of life because they build compartments to keep genetic materials and metabolic machinery safe. Since modern cell membranes are made up of ethanolamine-based phospholipids, prebiotic membrane formation with ethanolamine-based amphiphiles and phosphates might act as a bridge between the prebiotic and contemporary eras. Here, we report the prebiotic synthesis of O-lauroyl ethanolamine (OLEA), O-lauroyl methyl ethanolamine (OLMEA), and O-lauroyl dimethylethanolamine (OLDMEA) under wet-dry cycles. Turbidimetric, NMR, DLS, fluorescence, microscopy, and glucose encapsulation studies highlighted that OLEA-ATP and OLMEA-ATP form protocellular membranes in a 3:1 ratio, where ATP acts as a template. OLDMEA with a dimethyl group did not form any membrane in the presence of ATP. ADP can also template OLEA to form vesicles in a 2:1 ratio, but the ADP-templated vesicles were smaller. This suggests the critical role of the phosphate backbone in controlling the curvature of supramolecular assembly. The mechanisms of hierarchical assembly and transient dissipative assembly are discussed based on templated-complex formation via electrostatic, hydrophobic, and H-bonding interactions. Our results suggest that N-methylethanolamine-based amphiphiles could be used to form prebiotic vesicles, but the superior H-bonding ability of the ethanolamine moiety likely provides an evolutionary advantage for stable protocell formation during the fluctuating environments of early earth.

Abstract
A fluorescence and colorimetric tandem dual-mode sensor was established by modulating fluorescence and oxidase-like activity via valence switching of cerium-based coordination polymer nanoparticles (Ce-CPNs) for the detection of sarcosine (Sar) which is considered as a potential biomarker for the diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa). In the present research, sarcosine oxidase (SOX) specifically catalyzes the oxidation of Sar to yield H2O2 which can rapidly oxidize Ce(III)-CPNs to generate Ce(IV)-CPNs in appropriate alkaline solution. The generated Ce(IV)-CPNs create a markedly weakened fluorescent signal at 350 nm, while they can induce oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to generate blue TMBox through emerging good oxidase-like activity. The sensing platform can realize accurate, stable, and high-throughput detection of Sar because of the tandem dual signal output mechanism. More attractively, the chromogenic hydrogel sensing device using smartphone photographing has achieved perfect results for the on-site sensing of Sar in urine specimens without large experimental equipments, demonstrating its considerable clinical application potential in the early diagnosis of PCa.

Abstract
The glutathione (GSH) functionalized Mn-doped ZnS quantum dots (GSH_Mn_ZnS QDs) was conjugated with pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP). The -CHO group of vitamin B6 cofactor PLP interacted with the -NH2 group of GSH functionalized Mn_ZnS QDs. The conjugation of PLP quenched the fluorescence emission of GSH_Mn_ZnS QDs at 601 nm. Addition of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) catalytically dephosphorylated the PLP into pyridoxal that restored the fluorescence emission of GSH_Mn_ZnS QDs. With a sensitivity of 0.035 U/L, the PLP conjugated GSH_Mn_ZnS QDs was applied to quantify ALP activity in human serum and plasma. Further, the developed nanoprobe PLP conjugated GSH_Mn_ZnS QDs was also applied to detect Al3+. The complexation-induced fluorescence enhancement was observed at 492 nm upon the interaction of Al3+ with the PLP conjugated GSH_Mn_ZnS QDs. Without any interference from other tested metal ions, this nanoprobe can be employed to detect Al3+ down to 2.30 µM.

Abstract
Herein, a simple and sensitive ratiometric fluorescence sensing platform to detect alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity is developed on the basis of yellow fluorescent nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (YNCDs). The hydrolysis of ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (AAP) into ascorbic acid (AA) is catalyzed by ALP. Then, AA will react with o-phenylenediamine (OPD) to form 3-(1,2-dihydroxyethyl)furo[3,4b]-quinoxaline (QXD) which is a blue fluorescent quinoxaline derivative with emission at 435 nm in the presence of Cu2+. YNCDs have yellow fluorescence emission at 555 nm, and can maintain stable in QXD reaction system. Therefore, by utilizing the fluorescence of YNCDs at 555 nm as reference signal and the fluorescence of QXD at 435 nm as report signal, we can detect the ALP activity by monitoring the fluorescence ratio (F435/F555). The linear range is 0.5-5 U/L, and the limit of detection is 0.14 U/L. An application of this method for the analysis of ALP in human serum has given satisfactory results. A ratiometric fluorescent nanoprobe for ascorbic acid and alkaline phosphatase detection with excellent biocompatible and high sensitivity was successfully constructed based on YNCDs and QXD.

Abstract
A fluorometric glucose biosensor based on fine-tuned chemoenzymatic nanohybrids is herein proposed. The successful integration of an engineered glucose oxidase enzyme and an optically responsive polymeric nanogel in a single entity has led to the fabrication of a highly efficient glucose chemobiosensor. The optical responsiveness has been achieved by the loading of preactivated polymeric hydrogel with fluorescent lanthanide, i.e., cerium (III), cations. A comprehensive investigation of the responsiveness of the biomaterial revealed the interplay between the oxidation state of the cerium lanthanide and the fluorescence emission of the polymer. Finally, a full structural, chemical, and biochemical characterization of the reported system supports the chemobiosensors as robust, specific, and sensitive materials that could be utilized to faithfully quantify the amount of glucose in tear fluids.

Abstract
The assay of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) plays a key role in the diagnosis of various diseases. Herein, folic acid functionalized molybdenum oxide quantum dots (FA-MoOx QDs) are explored as fluorescence "turn- off and on" probes for assaying of Cu2+ ion and ALP, respectively. This fluorescence sensing strategy was based on the quenching of emission peak of FA-MoOx QDs at 445 nm by Cu2+ ion, followed by restoring of emission peak selectively with ALP. Based on the quenching and restoring of FA-MoOx QDs emission intensity, quantitative assay was developed for the detection of Cu2+ ion (0.20 - 500 µM) and ALP (0.06 - 150 U/L) with detection limits of 29 nM and 0.026 U/L, respectively. The developed FA-MoOx QDs-based fluorescence "turn- off and on" strategy exhibited satisfactory results for assaying of ALP in biofluids.

Abstract
The great threat of pesticide residues to the environment and human health has drawn widespread interest to explore approaches for pesticide monitoring. Compared to commonly developed single-signal pesticide assays, multi-mode detection with inherent self-validation and self-correction is expected to offer more reliable and anti-interference results. However, how to realize multi-mode analysis of pesticides still remains challenging. Herein, we propose a dual-mode fluorescence and colorimetric method for pesticide determination by integrating stimulus-responsive luminescence with oxidase-mimetic activity into cerium-based coordination polymer nanoparticles (CPNs(Ⅳ)). The CPNs(Ⅳ) exhibit good oxidase-like activity of catalyzing the colorless 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) oxidation to its blue oxide, offering a visible color signal; by employing acid phosphatase (ACP) to hydrolyze ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (AAP), the generated ascorbic acid (AA) can chemically reduce the CPNs(Ⅳ) to CPNs(Ⅲ), which exhibit a remarkable fluorescence signal but lose the oxidase-mimicking ability to trigger the TMB chromogenic reaction; when pesticides exist, the enzymatic activity of ACP is restrained and the hydrolysis of AAP to AA is blocked, leading to the recovery of the catalytic TMB chromogenic reaction but the suppression of the fluorescence signal of CPNs(Ⅲ). According to this principle, by taking malathion as a pesticide model, dual-mode 'off-on-off' fluorescence and 'on-off-on' colorimetric detection of the pesticide with good sensitivity was realized. Excellent interference-tolerance and reliability were verified by applying it to analyze the target in real sample matrices. With good performance and practicability, the proposed dual-mode approach shows great potential in the facile and reliable monitoring of pesticide residues.

Abstract
The combination of supramolecular chemistry and aggregation-induced emission-based luminogens (AIEgens) has recently attracted tremendous attention because of its ability to offer large emission enhancement even in substantially dilute solutions. In this work, a new aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-based supramolecular assembly has been reported, which consists of a polyanionic cyclodextrin derivative and a tetracationic tetraphenylethylene (TPE) derivative. Ionic cyclodextrins have attracted significant attention in host-guest supramolecular chemistry and pharmaceutical industry. However, ionic derivatives of β-cyclodextrins have not been explored to establish noncovalent interactions-based aggregation assembly of the most popular class of AIEgens, i.e., tetraphenylethylene derivatives. The current report demonstrates AIE of a tetracationic methyl pyridinium derivative of tetraphenylethylene (TPy-TPE) induced by a polyanionic sulfated β-cyclodextrin (S-βCD). The AIE-based supramolecular assembly has been thoroughly investigated using steady-state fluorescence, ground-state absorbance, and time-resolved fluorescence measurements. Further, the response of the supramolecular assembly towards external stimuli, such as, ionic strength, pH, and temperature, has been investigated. In addition, the complexation behavior of the TPE derivative has also been compared with the native neutral β-cyclodextrin derivative, which delineates the important role of the negatively charged portal of S-βCD in inducing aggregation of the TPy-TPE. The stoichiometry of the complex has been found to be 3:1 for TPy-TPE:S-βCD, using Job's plot analysis. Finally, to get insights into the underlying interactions between the supramolecular assembly components, molecular docking calculations have been performed.

Abstract
Enzymes can be used as biomarkers for a variety of diseases. However, profiling enzyme activity in clinical samples is challenging due to the heterogeneity in enzyme activity, and the low abundance of the target enzyme in biofluids. Single-molecule methods can overcome these challenges by providing information on the distribution of enzyme activities in a sample. Here, we describe the concept of using the single-molecule enzymology (SME) method to analyze enzymatic activity in clinical samples. We present recent work focused on measuring alkaline phosphatase isotypes in serum samples using SME. Future work will involve improving and simplifying this technology, and applying it to other enzymes for diagnostics.

Abstract
In this study, the phosphatase mimetic activity of zirconium oxide nanoparticles (ZrO2 NPs) has been demonstrated. They can effectively catalyze the dephosphorylation of a series of commercial fluorogenic and chromogenic substrates of natural phosphatases. Compared with natural phosphatases, ZrO2 NPs possess several advantages such as low cost, facile preparation procedures, and high stability in a broader pH range or at high temperatures. In addition, the activity of ZrO2 NPs toward some important biomolecules was investigated. The ZrO2 NPs can catalyze the dephosphorylation of ATP and o-phospho-l-tyrosine, but they cannot react with DNA strands. These data are important for the further bio-related applications of ZrO2 NPs. Finally, the potential application of ZrO2 NPs in intracellular imaging is also demonstrated by using a near-infrared fluorescent substrate of alkaline phosphatase.

Ratiometric fluorescence determination of alkaline phosphatase activity based on dual emission of bovine serum albumin-stabilized gold nanoclusters and the inner filter effect. Abstract
A novel and convenient method for the ratiometric fluorescence detection of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity was proposed based on dual emission of bovine serum albumin-templated gold nanoclusters (BSA-AuNCs) and the mechanism of the inner filter effect between BSA-AuNCs and p-nitrophenol (PNP). First, ALP catalyzed the hydrolysis of the substrate p-nitrophenyl phosphate (PNPP) to produce PNP. PNP effectively quenched the emission peak of BSA-AuNCs at 410 nm because of the overlap in absorbance feature of PNP and the fluorescence spectrum of BSA-AuNCs, and the peak at 650 nm was almost unaffected. Thus, a sensitive ratiometric method for detection of ALP activity was developed using the fluorescence intensity of BSA-AuNCs at 650 nm as a reference signal. ALP activity versus the ratio of fluorescence intensities at 410 and 650 nm showed good linearity between 0.2 and 5 mU mL-1 (R2 = 0.9931) and high sensitivity with a detection limit of 0.03 mU mL-1 (S/N = 3). The developed sensing method was successfully applied to investigate ALP inhibitors and detect ALP in serum samples.

Abstract
The development of lanthanide based coordination polymer and metal-organic framework (CPs and MOFs) nanomaterials as novel functional (e.g. luminescent and magnetic) materials has attracted significant attention in recent times. This is in part due to the wide, but yet unique coordination requirements that the f-metal ions possess, as well as their attractive physical properties, which are often transferred to the bulk material. Hence, there is no surprise, that the design, synthesis and characterisation of lanthanide based CP/MOF materials (featuring either 'pure' lanthanides, or a mixture of both f- and d-metal ions) for applications in gas and small molecule absorption, storage, conversion/catalysis, chemical sensing, bio-imaging, drug delivery, etc. has been a prominent feature in the scientific literature. In this review, we give a selected overview of some of the recent developments in the area of Ln CP/MOF based nanomaterials for sensing, optical materials and bio-medicine research, as well as making reference to some more established examples, with the view of introducing, particularly to new researchers to the field, the powerful and attractive features of lanthanide based materials.

Abstract
Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is extensively used as a clinical biomarker because of its close relevance with a variety of diseases. Thus, exploring reliable and practical methods for ALP analysis is of great significance. In the present work, we explored MIL-53(Fe) as a bifunctional platform with pyrophosphate (PPi)-mediated peroxidase-like activity and oxidation-stimulated fluorescence switching for ALP sensing. The proposed MIL-53(Fe) could exhibit favorable peroxidase-mimicking activity to catalytically decompose H2O2 to hydroxyl radicals, which had strong oxidizing ability to oxidize the terephthalic acid bridging ligand, resulting in the oxidation-stimulated turn-on fluorescence of MIL-53(Fe) itself. Due to the strong coordination interaction between PPi and Fe3+, the former with a relatively large molecular structure was able to inhibit the catalytic activity of MIL-53(Fe) via capping active Fe3+ sites, leading to the suppression of its self-fluorescence response. When ALP was present, it could hydrolyze the PPi inhibitor and restore the dual functions of MIL-53(Fe) to provide fluorescence again. With the above principle, highly sensitive and selective determination of ALP with a linear scope of 2-80 U L-1 and a detection limit down to 0.7 U L-1 was achieved. The MIL-53(Fe) was also demonstrated to be very reliable in measuring the target in human serum, indicating its great promise as an integrated tool for ALP detection in clinical practice.

Abstract
Quantification of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is of great importance in liquid biopsy but difficult due to its low amount in bodily fluids. To meet this high demand, a novel method for ctDNA detection is established by quantifying cyclic DNA polymerization using lanthanide coordination polymers (Ln-CPs). Relying on the coordination between the pyrophosphate ion (PPi) and trivalent cerium ion (Ce3+), organic ligand-free PPi-Ce coordination polymer networks (PPi-Ce CPNs) with enhanced fluorescence are prepared for the first time. By surveying the optical properties of PPi-Ce CPNs, it is found that PPi regulates electric-dipole transition of Ce3+ to the lowest excited state, thus facilitating the emission of fluorescence. Therefore, fluorescence enhancement of PPi-Ce CPNs originates from the ligand field effect rather than the normal antenna effect. Moreover, a new strategy to quantify DNA polymerization is developed based on PPi-Ce CPNs. By introducing multifold cyclic DNA polymerization, a small amount of ctDNA triggers the exponential generation of PPi to form plenty of PPi-Ce CPNs. Accordingly, a biosensor is constructed for sensitive ctDNA detection by measuring the intense fluorescence of PPi-Ce CPNs. The biosensor is capable of sensing ctDNA at the sub-femtomolar level, which is far better than the analytical performances of commercial dyes. Besides, the analytical method is able to detect single nucleotide polymorphism and determine ctDNA in real samples. Considering that DNA polymerization is widely used in bio-recognition, bio-assembly and biomineralization, the work provides a versatile quantitative strategy of making relevant processes precise and controllable.

Abstract
Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a kind of mycotoxin that seriously harms the health of humans and animals. In this study, a nanobody-alkaline phosphatase fusion-mediated phosphate-triggered fluorescence immunoassay (Nb-AP-mediated PT-FIA) was developed for detecting OTA. Based on the constructed phosphate-triggered fluorescence sensing system for Nb-AP and the optimal working conditions, the Nb-AP-mediated PT-FIA has a half maximal inhibition concentration (IC50) of 0.46 ng/mL, a limit of detection (IC10) of 0.12 ng/mL, and a linear range (IC20-80) of 0.2-1.26 ng/mL, respectively. The recovery experiment indicated acceptable accuracy and precision of the Nb-AP-mediated PT-FIA, and the results were validated by high performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detector. Thus this proposed method is applicable to sensitive, rapid, and low-cost detection of OTA and other toxic analytes with low molecular weight in food and environment.

Abstract
Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is an important enzyme related to many clinical diseases and also widely used as a labeling enzyme for immunoassay. Herein, a new electrochemical sensing strategy for ALP activity was proposed, which was based on the ALP-triggered methylene blue (MB) release from a lanthanide coordination polymer and successive penetration through a self-assembled dodecanethiol monolayer for electrochemical response. The supramolecular lanthanide coordination polymer was constructed by using guanine monophosphate (GMP) and Tb3+ as the ligand and the metal ion, respectively, and the encapsulated MB as the signal molecule. ALP catalyzed the cleavage of the phosphate group from the GMP ligand and disrupted the coordination polymer network to release abundant MB molecules for electrochemical responses related to ALP activity. The obtained lanthanide coordination polymers were well characterized by various techniques. The fabricated electrochemical sensor for ALP activity assay shows distinct advantages such as being one-step, label-free, immobilization-free and highly sensitive. The detection limit toward ALP activity was down to 0.5 U L-1. With the aid of a MB enrichment process on the modified electrode before measurement, the detection limit could be further improved to 0.1 U L-1. Moreover, the assay method could be applied for ALP detection in complex matrixes such as human serum and also for efficient inhibitor evaluation. Thus, the current study provides a new pathway to the fabrication of a coordination polymer-based electrochemical sensing platform for applications in disease diagnosis and drug discovery.

Abstract
Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is widely recognized as a significant biomarker for lots of diseases. For this reason, developing effective and simple methods to monitor ALP activity is strongly necessary. Herein, we propose a novel strategy based on the target-induced valence state regulation of oxidase-mimicking Ce-based nanorods for ALP activity sensing. The mixed-valent Ce-based material (MVCM) with a relatively high Ce(iv)/Ce(iii) ratio can exhibit good oxidase-like activity to trigger the catalytic oxidation of colorless 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to blue TMBox in the presence of O2, resulting in a notable chromogenic reaction. When ALP hydrolyzes ascorbic acid phosphate into ascorbic acid (AA), the formed AA induces the partial reduction of the MVCM to one with a low Ce(iv)/Ce(iii) ratio, which shows much less activity to trigger the chromogenic reaction. According to the above principle, a facile colorimetric assay was developed for ALP activity detection, providing a linear range of 0.5-25 U L-1 and a limit of detection of 0.1 U L-1. Besides, the proposed strategy could offer favorable selectivity for ALP activity determination. Accurate sensing of the target in serum was demonstrated by our assay as well, revealing its promise as a reliable tool for clinical diagnosis.

Abstract
Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is a natural enzyme that is able to catalyze the dephosphorylation of phosphate esters. It participates in a great number of biological processes ranging from various metabolisms to signal transduction and cellular regulation. Since the abnormality of ALP activity in body is closely associated with many diseases, it has become an important biomarker for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Besides, it is often utilized in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Given these demands, in the last few years considerable interest has been focused on exploring new materials and methods for ALP activity detection. In this review, we first made a clear classification on the principles that could be used for ALP activity determination. After that, emerging colorimetric and fluorescent strategies designed on the basis of these principles were systematically summarized. Finally, some perspectives on ALP activity analysis were discussed, hoping to inspire future efforts in the field.
