Abstract
Copper(I)-based thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters have been conceived to be promising candidates for display and lighting applications because of their multifarious structures and strong photoluminescence. Herein a string of binuclear Cu(I) complexes bearing pronounced cuprophilic interactions have been designed and synthesized. [Cu2(dppb)2(μ2-η1-C≡C-Ph)2] (1 a) and [Cu2(dppb)2(μ2-η1-C≡C-PPXZ)2] (1 b) display photoluminescence quantum yields of up to 67 % in doped films and solid states via TADF and exhibit reversible bicolor luminescence switching upon mechanical stimuli. Computational studies manifest that the metal-to-ligand charge transfer predominant transitions ensure a small energy splitting (ΔEST) between the lowest singlet (S1) and triplet (T1) excited states and cuprophilic interactions promote the spin-orbit coupling (SOC), favoring the reverse intersystem crossing (RISC) process. This study provides a new strategy for the construction of stimuli-responsive metal-based TADF materials.

Abstract
A heterobimetallic coordination polymer [Au4(dppmt)4(AgCl)2]n (1) incorporating an in situ generated P-S ligand (dppmtH) was synthesized from the solvothermal reaction of Au(tht)Cl, AgCl, and dpppyatc in CH3CN/CH2Cl2 (dppmtH = (diphenylphosphino)methanethiol, tht = tetrahydrothiophene, dpppyatc = N,N-bis((diphenylphosphaneyl)methyl)-N-(pyridin-2-yl)-amino-thiocarbamide). The structure of 1 contains a one-dimensional helical Au-Au chain in which the unique [Au4Ag2S2] cluster units are connected by [Au2(dppmt)2] dimers. Upon excitation at 343 nm, 1 exhibited cyan (495 nm) phosphorescent emission at quantum yield (QY) = 22.3% and τ = 0.78 μs (λex = 375 nm). Coordination polymer 1 exhibited a rapid, selective, reversible, and visible vapor-chromic response on exposure to methanol (MeOH) vapor with its emission shifting to a more intense green (530 nm, λex = 388 nm) with QY = 46.8% and τ = 1.24 μs (λex = 375 nm). A polymethylmethacrylate film containing 1 served as a reversible chemical sensor for the sensitive detection of MeOH in air.

Abstract
Reaction of [Au(tht)2](ClO4) (tht = tetrahydrothiophene), [Cu(CH3CN)4](ClO4), 3,6-di-tert-butyl-1,8-diethynyl-9H-carbazole (H3decz), and bis(2-diphenylphosphinophenyl)ether (POP) in the presence of triethylamine (NEt3) gave the cluster complex Au4Cu2(decz)2(POP)2 as yellow crystals. As revealed by X-ray crystallography, the Au4Cu2 cluster exhibits scissor-like structure sustained by two decz and two POP ligands and stabilized by Au-Cu and Au-Au interactions. The Au4Cu2 cluster shows bright yellow to orange photoluminescence upon irradiation at >300 nm, arising from 3[π (decz)→5d (Au)] 3LMCT (ligand-to-metal charge transfer) and 3[π→π* (decz)] 3IL (intraligand) triplet states as revealed by theoretical and computational studies. When it is mechanically ground, reversible phosphorescence conversion from yellow to red is observed owing to more compact molecular packing and thus stronger intermetallic interaction. Variable-temperature luminescence studies reveal that it displays distinct red-shifts of the emission whether the temperature is elevated or lowered from ambient temperature, suggestive of exceptional thermochromic phosphorescence characteristics.

Abstract
Metallophilic interactions, which are ubiquitous among d10 metal complexes with linear coordination geometries, can direct one-dimensional assembly. However, the ability of these interactions to manipulate chirality at the hierarchical level largely remains unknown. In this work, we unveiled the role of Au···Cu metallophilic interactions in directing the chirality of multicomponent assemblies. N-heterocyclic carbene-Au(I) complexes bearing amino acid residues formed chiral co-assemblies with [CuI2]- anions via Au···Cu interactions. These metallophilic interactions changed the molecular packing modes of the co-assembled nanoarchitectures from lamellar to columnar chiral packing. This transformation initiated the emergence, inversion, and evolution of supramolecular chirality, thereby affording helical superstructures, depending on the geometry of building units. In addition, the Au···Cu interactions altered the luminescence properties and induced the emergence and amplification of circularly polarized luminescence. This work, for the first time, revealed the role of Au···Cu metallophilic interactions in modulating supramolecular chirality, paving the way for the construction of functional chiroptical materials based on d10 metal complexes.

Abstract
Fluorescent organic dyes play an essential role in the creation of new "smart" materials. Fragments and functional groups capable of free rotation around single bonds can significantly change the fluorescent organic dye's electronic structure under analyte effects, phase state transitions, or changes in temperature, pressure, and media polarity. Dependencies between steric and electronic structures become highly important in transition from a solution to a solid-state. Such transitions are accompanied by a significant increase in the dye molecular structure's rigidity due to supramolecular associates' formation such as H-bonding, π···π and dipole-dipole interactions. Among those supramolecular effects, H-bonding interactions, first of all, lead to significant molecular packing changes between loose or rigid structures, thus affecting the fluorescent dye's electronic states' energy and configuration, its fluorescent signal's position and intensity. All the functional groups and heteroatoms that are met in the organic dyes seem to be involved in the control of fluorescence via H-bonding: C-H···N, C-H···π, S = O···H-C, P = O···H, C-H···O, NH···N, C - H···C, C - H···Se, N-H···O, C - H···F, C-F···H. Effects of molecular packing of fluorescent organic dyes are successfully used in developing mechano-, piezo-, thermo- fluorochromes materials for their applications in the optical recording of information, sensors, security items, memory elements, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) technologies.

Abstract
Herein we report the synthesis of three light emitting rod-shaped gold(I) complexes by combining ethynyl-functionalized 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (BTD), with different N-heterocyclic (imidazole, benzimidazole and phenantroimidazole) carbene gold(I) complexes. As could be determined by single crystal structure determination, the size of the N-heterocyclic carbene affects the relative disposition of the two ligands in the linear gold complexes (nearly perpendicular in the benzimidazole vs. planar in the phenantroimidazole derivative) which translates to different types of interactions between neighbouring units. In fact, the planar conformation in the more π-extended phenantroimidazole carbene allows Au(I) atoms to get sufficiently closer favouring aurophilic interactions. This compound is obtained as two different colour emitting solids which is ascribed to changes in packing modes probably leading to differences in the strength of aurophilic interactions. Interestingly, while the emission in the solid state is almost quenched, the incorporation of the compounds in polymer matrixes enhances the emissive properties of the compounds reaching near unity quantum yields.

Abstract
Two heteroctanuclear Au4Ag4 cluster complexes of 4,5-diethynylacridin-9-one (H2L) were prepared through the self-assembly reactions of [Au(tht)2](CF3SO3), Ag(tht)(CF3SO3), H2L and PPh3 or PPh2Py (2-(diphenylphosphino)pyridine). The Au4Ag4 cluster consists of a [Au4L4]4- and four [Ag(PPh3)]+ or [Ag(PPh2Py)]+ units with Au4L4 framework exhibiting a twisted paper clip structure. In CH2Cl2 solutions at ambient temperature, both compounds show ligand fluorescence at ca. 463 nm as well as phosphorescence at 650 nm for 1 and 630 nm for 2 resulting from admixture of 3IL (intraligand) of L ligand, 3LMCT (from L ligand to Au4Ag4) and 3MC (metal-cluster) triplet states. Crystals or crystalline powders manifest bright yellow-green phosphorescence with vibronic-structured emission bands at 530 (568sh) nm for complex 1 and 536 (576sh) nm for complex 2. Upon mechanical grinding, yellow-green emission in the crystalline state is dramatically converted to red luminescence centered at ca. 610 nm with a drastic redshift of the emission after crystal packing is destroyed.

Abstract
Reaction of [(3-bdppmapy)(AuCl)2] with NaHmba (3-bdppmapy = N,N'-bis-(diphenylphosphanylmethyl-3-aminopytidine, H2mba = 2-mercaptobenzoic acid) resulted in a new tetranuclear Au/P/S complex [(3-bdppmapy)2(AuHmba)3(AuCl)] (1). Upon excitation at 370 nm, 1 exhibited solid state, room temperature, green fluorescent emission (QY = 4.7%, τ = 2.58 ns) which was significantly enanced at lower temperatures due to strengthening of the Au-Au interaction. Different ratios of 1 with phosphor N630 in PMMA were used to make thermochromic photoluminescent films and fibres that could be fabricated into an optical thermometer sensitive over temperature ranges 80-300 K and 300-370 K.

Abstract
Luminophores with persistent room-temperature phosphorescence (p-RTP) or effective phosphorescent mechanochromism features have significant potential applications in the field of optoelectronic materials. Until now, p-RTP and remarkable phosphorescent mechanochromism phenomena have been observed in some luminescent molecules with different molecular structures. However, separately realizing p-RTP and high-contrast phosphorescent mechanochromism in different polymorphs from a single luminophore is still a valuable and challenging topic. In this work, two polymorphs 1B and 1YG of a new gold(i) complex with blue and yellow-green luminescence, respectively, are reported. Interestingly, 1B exhibits high-contrast phosphorescent mechanochromic behavior, while 1YG exhibits a persistent room-temperature phosphorescence effect. This is the first example of simultaneously obtaining double-purpose crystalline materials with a high-contrast phosphorescent mechanochromism or persistent room-temperature phosphorescence feature from a single luminophore.

Abstract
The development of supramolecular systems showing aurophilic interactions in solution is gaining much attention in the last years. This is due to the intriguing photophysical properties of gold(I) complexes, which usually confer to these supramolecular assemblies interesting luminescent properties, as well as the possibility of morphological modulation, through fine tuning of inter- and intramolecular aurophilic interactions, in synergy with the formation of other supramolecular contacts. In this work, an overview of the advances made in this area since 2015 is presented. A large variety of systems showing different spectroscopical and structural topologies has been reported. Moreover, these supramolecular assemblies have proven to be useful in a wide range of applications.

Abstract
The reaction of AuCl(SMe2) with equimolar NaO5NCS2 [O5NCS2 = (aza-18-crown-6)dithiocarbamate] in CH3CN gave [Au2(O5NCS2)2]·2CH3CN (2·2CH3CN), where six other 2·solvates (solvates = 2DMF, 2DMSO, 2THF, 2acetone, 1.5toluene, and 1.5anisole) can be successfully isolated from different crystal-growing processes (i.e., ether diffusion, layer method, or evaporation in air) by dissolving the dry powder samples of 2·2CH3CN in the respective solvents, and their crystal structures are all determined by X-ray diffraction as well. It is noted that there are different intermolecular Au(I)···Au(I) contacts in combination with various luminescences for 2·solvates and indeed there is a close relationship between intermolecular Au(I)···Au(I) contacts [i.e., 2.8254(7)-2.9420(5) Å] and luminescence energies (i.e., 554-604 nm), including three examples of 2·2CH3CN, 2·0.5m-xylene, and 2·tert-butylbenzene·H2O reported in our previous work. In 2·solvates, the toluene and tert-butylbenzene solvates have the shortest [2.8254(7)-2.8289(7) Å] and longest [2.9420(5) Å] intermolecular Au(I)···Au(I) contacts, respectively, and consequently they show the respective lowest (604 nm) and highest (554 nm) luminescence energies. Indeed, 2·solvates exhibit different types of time-dependent luminescence upon solvate loss in air. Furthermore, B3LYP/LanL2DZ calculation results can help to clarify the relationship between intermolecular Au(I)···Au(I) contacts and luminescence energies for 2·solvates.

Abstract
We report several novel thermometers resulting from the temperature-induced aggregation of difluoroboron β-diketonate chromophores. These thermometers exhibit a much wider temperature-dependent fluorescence emission from 445 to 592 nm along with the color change from blue to red in a dilute chloroform solution. Spectroscopy measurements and theoretical calculations confirm that the thermochromic luminescence originates from the reversible change in the noncovalent intermolecular interactions and the abrupt volume shrinkage of the solvent at its melting point. The present work provides a new strategy for rationally designing high-performance thermometers having a wide emission property.

Abstract
This review covers the compound class of one-dimensional gold strings. These compounds feature a formally infinite repetition of gold complexes as monomers/repeating units that are held together by aurophilic interactions, i.e. direct gold-gold contacts. Their molecular structures are primarily determined in the solid state using single crystal X-ray diffraction. The chemical composition of the employed gold complexes is diverse and furthermore plays a key role in terms of structure characteristics and the resulting properties. One of the most common features of gold strings is their photoluminescence upon UV excitation. The emission energy is often dependent on the distance of adjacent gold ions and the electronic structure of the whole string. In terms of gold strings, these parameters can be fine-tuned by external stimuli such as solvent, pH value, pressure or mechanical stress. This leads to direct structure-property correlations, not only with regard to the photophysical properties, but also electric conductivity for potential application in nanoelectronics. Concerning these correlations, gold strings, consisting of self-assembled individual complexes as building blocks, are the ideal compound class to look at, as perturbations by an inhomogeneity in the ligand sphere (such as the end of a molecule) can be neglected. Therefore, the aim of this review is to shed light on the past achievements and current developments in this area.

Abstract
A gold(I) complex is reported. Interestingly, crystals of the gold(I) complex exhibit an excellent excitation wavelength-dependent emission effect at room temperature. Notably, a nearly pure white emission with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage (CIE) 1931 chromaticity coordinates of (0.32, 0.33) is obtained upon excitation with 406 nm light.

PART A, MOLECULAR AND BIOMOLECULAR SPECTROSCOPY 2019; 220:117125. Abstract
In this study, we report a new compound, (E)-4-(((2-hydroxynaphthalen-1-yl)methylene)amino)-3-methylbenzoic acid (HNMB), which shows aggregation-induced emission property as well as intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) nature. In addition, it exhibits unique mechanochromic luminescence (MCL). The HNMB solid powder emits strong emission but shows quenching effect together with bathochromic-shift after grinding, suggesting a high contrast ratio up to 1420%. Through crystallographic analysis, the relationship between MCL nature and molecular packing mode is verified: Molecules in crystalline phase adopt the J-type coupling based on less overlapped π⋯π stacking, in which multiple intermolecular interactions mainly including C-H⋯π, C-H⋯O and hydrogen bonding, help to stabilize such packing mode. When these interactions are destructed by mechanical force, the packing would be disassembled, activating the MCL behavior. Such working mechanism only needs weak external force capable of destructing intermolecular interactions, rendering the MCL material highly sensitive to pressure. As a practical application, a film sensor for pressure detection is designed based on HNMB, which gives a linear relation between the emission intensity and the external pressure in a lower range. The detection limit of the film sensor is 27.24 Mpa, suggesting high sensitivity. In addition, pressure mapping with high contrast ratio is obtained by surface plot, making this pressure sensor a reliable candidate to be instrumented for various applications.

Abstract
The influence of the chemical substitution, crystal packing, and aurophilic interactions of the gold(I) acetylide complexes of the type (ArCOC≡C)n AuPEt3 (n=1,2) on their luminescent properties were examined. All described complexes undergo ligand scrambling in solution, which results in the formation of stable, easily isolated crystals that contain [ArCO(C≡C)n ]2 Au- (Et3 P)2 Au+ homoleptic species. In particular, we observed that the (benzoylacetylide)gold(I) complex yields three crystal forms with strikingly different luminescence properties. We monitored the conversion pathway for these forms: an orange luminescent form of homoleptic complex upon drying undergoes spontaneous transformation to bright green fluorescent form and finally to the weakly blue emissive one. In addition, we report a rare example of a helical arrangement of Au⋅Au⋅Au chains that are observed for the first time in acetylide gold(I) complexes in the case of heteroleptic (benzoylacetylide)gold(I) complex. This is a very rare case in which crystal structures and ensuing electronic properties of the heteroleptic and AuI complexes could be directly compared.

Abstract
Two gold N-heterocyclic carbene complexes show contrasting luminescent mechanochromism behavior with hypso- and bathochromic spectral shifts. The distinct emission shifts upon mechanical stimulation can be explained by the aggregate-to-monomer transformation and intensified intermolecular interactions, respectively.
