Abstract
Isocyanate, a pivotal chemical intermediate to synthesize polyurethane with widespread applications in household appliances, automobiles, and construction, is predominantly produced via the phosgene process, which currently holds a paramount status in industrial isocyanate production. Nonetheless, concerns arise from the toxicity of phosgene and the corrosiveness of hydrogen chloride, posing safety hazards. The synthesis of isocyanate using nonphosgene methods represents a promising avenue for future development. This article primarily focuses on the nonphosgene approach, which involves the formation of carbamate through the reaction of nitro-amino compounds with carbon monoxide, dimethyl carbonate, and urea, among other reagents, subsequently leading to the thermal decomposition of carbamate to get isocyanate. This paper emphasizes the progress in catalyst development during the carbamate decomposition process. Single-component metal catalysts, particularly zinc, exhibit advantages such as high activity, cost-effectiveness, and compatibility with a wide range of substrates. Composite catalysts enhance isocyanate yield by introducing a second component to adjust the active metal composition. The central research direction aims to optimize catalyst adaptation to reaction conditions, including temperature, pressure, time, and solvent, to achieve high raw material conversion and product yield.

Abstract
Thin-film composite mixed-matrix membranes (TFC-MMMs) have potential applications in practical gas separation processes because of their high permeance (gas flux) and gas selectivity. In this study, we fabricated a high-performance TFC-MMM based on a rubbery comb copolymer, i.e., poly(2-[3-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4-hydroxyphenyl] ethyl methacrylate)-co-poly(oxyethylene methacrylate) (PBE), and metal-organic framework MOF-808 nanoparticles. The rubbery copolymer penetrates through the pores of MOF-808, thereby tuning the pore size. In addition, the rubbery copolymer forms a defect-free interfacial morphology with polymer-infiltrated MOF-808 nanoparticles. Consequently, TFC-MMMs (thickness = 350 nm) can be successfully prepared even with a high loading of MOF-808. As polymer-infiltrated MOF is incorporated into the polymer matrix, the PBE/MOF-808 membrane exhibits a significantly higher CO2 permeance (1069 GPU) and CO2/N2 selectivity (52.7) than that of the pristine PBE membrane (CO2 permeance = 431 GPU and CO2/N2 selectivity = 36.2). Therefore, the approach considered in this study is suitable for fabricating high-performance thin-film composite membranes via polymer infiltration into MOF pores.

Abstract
In this work, activated carbon treated in N2 atmosphere, as a non-metallic catalyst, exhibits excellent catalytic performance in reduction of Cr (VI) to Cr (III) using HCOOH as the reducing agent at room temperature. A series of characterizations and control experiments were carried out to deduce the possible reaction mechanism. The results showed that the improved catalytic performance can be attributed to the enhanced graphitization degree and basic sites such as pyrone-like, which favor electron transferring and activation of reactant. The reaction rate constant observed herein for the C-800 was 22 and 6 times more than that for C-0 and Pd/C catalyst, respectively. In addition, C-800 showed good recycle performance, and no loss of activity was observed after 5 cycles. This study broadens the application of nonmetallic catalyst and provides an easy-available and cost-effective catalytic material for removing toxic Cr (VI).

Abstract
The modulated hydrothermal (MHT) synthesis of an active and selective Hf-MOF-808 material for the N-alkylation reaction of aniline with benzyl alcohol under base-free mild reaction conditions is reported. Through kinetic experiments and isotopically labeled NMR spectroscopy studies, we have demonstrated that the reaction mechanism occurs via borrowing hydrogen (BH) pathway, in which the alcohol dehydrogenation is the limiting step. The high concentration of defective -OH groups generated on the metallic nodes through MHT synthesis enhances the alcohol activation, while the unsaturated Hf4+, which acts as a Lewis acid site, is able to borrow the hydrogen from the methylene position of benzyl alcohol. This fact makes this material at least 14 times more active for the N-alkylation reaction than the material obtained via solvothermal synthesis. The methodology described in this work could be applied to a wide range of aniline and benzyl alcohol derivates, showing in all cases high selectivity toward the corresponding N-benzylaniline product. Finally, Hf-MOF-808, which acts as a true heterogeneous catalyst, can be reused in at least four consecutive runs without any activity loss.

Abstract
Ecofriendly routes for the synthesis of carbamates and carbonylative coupling products such as benzyl formate derivatives are very demanding for both academia and industries. Foreseeing a sustainable green future, we systematically analyzed the synthesis history of both these chemicals, mentioning their pros and cons. As a step towards green chemistry, here we have optimized the reaction conditions for the synthesis of various benzyl formates from corresponding benzyl halides and carbamates from substituted anilines and alkyl halides catalyzed by Ni(0) nanoparticles (NPs) immobilized over amine-functionalized ordered mesoporous SBA-15 material in the presence of CO2 as C1 source. This spotlight on applications is aimed to provide a clear outlook to date regarding the gradual progress in the synthesis of both these aforementioned chemicals and finally addresses further efforts for overcoming the current challenges.

Abstract
The Lewis/Brønsted catalytic properties of the Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) nodes can be tuned by simply controlling the solvent employed in the synthetic procedure. In this work, we demonstrate that Hf-MOF-808 can be prepared from a material with a higher amount of Brønsted acid sites, via modulated hydrothermal synthesis, to a material with a higher proportion of unsaturated Hf Lewis acid sites, via modulated solvothermal synthesis. The Lewis/Brønsted acid properties of the resultant metallic clusters have been studied by different characterization techniques, including XAS, FTIR and NMR spectroscopies, combined with a DFT study. The different nature of the Hf-MOF-808 materials allows their application as selective catalysts in different target reactions requiring Lewis, Brønsted or Lewis-Brønsted acid pairs.

Abstract
The methoxycarbonylation of anilines stands as an attractive method for the phosgene-free production of carbamates. Despite the high yields obtained for ceria catalysts, the reduction of the amount of side products and the prevention of catalyst deactivation still represent major hurdles in this chemistry. One advantage of ceria is the possibility of tuning its reactivity by doping its lattice with other metals. In the present work, a series of doped ceria-based materials, prepared by substitution with metals, are evaluated in the methoxycarbonylation of 2,4-diaminotoluene with dimethyl carbonate. Among all catalysts, containing Eu, Hf, La, Pr, Sm, Tb, Y or Zr, ceria promoted with 2 mol % Zr exhibited 96 % selectivity towards the desired carbamates, improving the pure CeO2 catalyst. Density functional theory demonstrates that two descriptors are needed: 1) a geometric factor that governs the reduction of energy barriers for carbamate formation through ureas; 2) catalyst basicity as N-H bonds need to be activated. Assessment in subsequent reaction cycles revealed that the CeO2 -ZrO2 catalyst is more stable than bulk CeO2 , along with the reduction of fouling processes.

Abstract
The reaction of FeCl3, SeO2, and Pyridine (Py) in the presence of methanol (MeOH) under CO pressure generates a black precipitate, which has been confirmed as ferric di-selenide, FeSe2 through different structure characterization methods. Furthermore, impregnation of 5 wt% of FeSe2 onto γ-Al2O3 exhibits better catalytic performance than FeSe2 due to the highly dispersed and smaller particle sizes ca. 200–300 nm. The reductive carbonylation of nitrobenzene (NB) was investigated over FeSe2/γ-Al2O3 as a heterogeneous catalyst, delivering an excellent yield and high selectivity of methyl-N-phenyl carbamate (MPC). Moreover, a set of reactions was performed with variation in the reaction time, temperature, and pressure to investigate the effects of these factors. In particular, FeSe2/γ-Al2O3 is highly stable and can be recycled for up to five cycles without significant loss in catalytic performance. A mechanistic study was also conducted on this low-cost catalyst system, especially proposing a crucial role of FeSe2 (μ-CO) active species.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as solid acid catalysts provide active sites with definite structures. Here, Zr6 -based MOF-808 and its derivatives were studied as catalysts for glycerol dehydration, the products of which (acrolein vs. acetol) are very sensitive to the nature of the catalytic acid sites. Evolving MOF-808 into MOF-808-S with a 120 % increase in the number of Brønsted OH- /H2 O coordinated to ZrIV and a vanished Lewis acidity by steam treatment, the post-synthetically modified catalyst presented 100 % conversion of glycerol, 91 % selectivity to acrolein, and 0 % selectivity to acetol within the active window. Real-time analysis of the product composition indicated the in situ MOF structural evolution. Overall, the specific MOF-substrate interaction characterized by the probe reaction provides more understandings on the structural evolution of the MOFs and their impact on the performance as solid acid catalysts.

Abstract
A novel catalyst consisting of metallic Ni and porous carbon (PC) confined in SBA-15 was fabricated by the confined pyrolysis of nano-sized Ni-MOF-74 that was in situ grown in the mesopores of SBA-15. Due to the intimate contact between Ni and PC in a fine Ni-PC composite resulting from the confinement effect of mesoporous SBA-15, the catalyst displayed prominent catalytic activity and selectivity in the gas phase catalytic hydrodechlorination of 1,2-dichloroethane.

Abstract
A cationic metal-organic framework (MOF) ZJU-48 with one-dimensional pores of about 9.1 × 9.1 Å2 has been prepared from zinc ions, adenine, and carboxyl ligands. ZJU-48 displays excellent water stability for about one week, exhibiting its potential application for adsorption and separation of dyes. Cationic and anionic dyes with similar sizes are adopted to study the adsorbing and separating properties of ZJU-48. Cationic dyes are adsorbed better than anionic dyes because of the negatively charged zeta potential of the material surface, implying its selective adsorption to cationic dyes, and it is charge-based adsorption. Meanwhile, the adsorption ability of the MOF to cationic dyes with different sizes is also investigated. We find that the adsorbed amount decreases with increase in the size of organics ,indicating that it is size-based adsorption. Furthermore, the cationic dye methylene blue (MB) is employed and focused on for its suitable charge and fitting size to evaluate the maximum adsorption capacity and desorption progress of ZJU-48. The results show that the maximum loaded amount of MOF toward MB reaches 582.44 mg/g, and about 90% of loaded dyes can be released from frameworks in N,N-dimethylformamide with NaCl over 6 h, exhibiting satisfactory adsorptive property and possibility as a reusable adsorbent.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was the investigation of the potential of MIL-101(Fe) for load and sustained release of curcumin (CCM), as an anticancer drug, with pH stimulus. The reasons for choosing this type of metal-organic framework (MOF) are its high surface area, acceptable stability in a water medium, and its biocompatible components (iron and terephthalic acid) with low toxicity to normal cells. The obtained results from UV-vis analysis confirmed that this MOF is a smart carrier with a higher release rate in acidic pH (pH 5), which is a condition similar to that in cancer cells, than that at pH 7.4 (in normal cells). Therefore, this MOF is a pH-stimulus-controlled release carrier with 56.3% drug loading content and sustained drug release over 22 days. In order to evaluate the cell viability after treatment with free CCM, MIL-101(Fe), and MIL-101(Fe)@CCM, the cytotoxicity investigation using MTT assays was performed against HeLa and HEK 293 cell lines up to 48 h. Obtained results showed that MIL-101(Fe)@CCM exhibited more cell growth inhibition effect on HeLa cells in comparison with HEK 293. One of the reasons for the high loading and sustained release of CCM was surface adsorption of this drug and its interactions with open metal sites in MIL-101(Fe). In the end, the kinetic models of drug release were evaluated, and the obtained results showed that in this case diffusion is the main driving force for the drug release process.

Abstract
A new nano-ordered 1,3,5-tris(2-hydroxyethyl) isocyanurate-1,3-propylene covalently functionalized MCM-41 (MCM-41-Pr-THEIC) was designed and prepared at room temperature through a simple procedure. According to various microscopic, spectroscopic, or thermal methods and techniques, the correlation of the catalytic performance of the hybrid mesoporous MCM-41-Pr-THEIC to its structural characteristics was fully confirmed. The new MCM-41-Pr-THEIC organosilica nanomaterials were successfully investigated as a solid mild nanocatalyst through hydrogen-bonding activation provided by its organic moiety, for the pseudo-four-component condensation of dimedone, aldehydes, and ammonium acetate or p-toluidine to afford the corresponding acridinedione derivatives under green conditions. Furthermore, the introduced nanocatalyst could be reused at least four times with negligible loss of its activity, indicating the good stability and high activity of the new hybrid organosilica.
