Abstract
A series of emissive Cu(I) cationic complexes with 3-(2-pyridyl)-5-phenyl-pyrazole and various phosphines: dppbz (1), Xantphos (2), DPEPhos (3), PPh3 (4), and BINAP (5) were designed and characterized. Complexes obtained exhibit bright yellow-green emission (ca. 520–650 nm) in the solid state with a wide range of QYs (1–78%) and lifetimes (19–119 µs) at 298 K. The photoluminescence efficiency dramatically depends on the phosphine ligand type. The theoretical calculations of buried volumes and excited states explained the emission behavior for 1–5 as well as their lifetimes. The bulky and rigid phosphines promote emission efficiency through the stabilization of singlet and triplet excited states.

Abstract
The manipulation of the triplet excited state manifold leads to large differences in the photophysical properties within a given class of metal-organic chromophores. By the appropriate choice of ancillary ligand, large changes can be made both to the order and nature of the lowest excited states and therefore to the resulting photophysical properties. Herein, a series of four bis-2-phenylpyridine (ppy) cyclometalated Ir(iii) compounds bearing two arylisocyanide ligands were synthesized and photophysically characterized to understand the effects of using ancillary ligands featuring systematic changes in π-conjugation. By varying the arylisocyanide ligands, the photoluminescence quantum yield ranged from 5% to 49% and the excited state lifetime ranged between 24 μs and 2 ms. These variations in photophysical response are consistent with lowering the triplet ligand-centered (3LC) state of the arylisocyanide ligand as the π system was extended, confirmed by 77 K photoluminescence emission spectra and ultrafast transient absorption experiments. The latter analysis gleaned detailed insight into the importance of the interplay of the 3LC state of the phenylpyridine and arylisocyanide ligands in these polychromophic Ir(iii) molecules.

Rapid room temperature synthesis of red iridium(iii) complexes containing a four-membered Ir-S-C-S chelating ring for highly efficient OLEDs with EQE over 30. Chem Sci 2019; 10:3535-3542. Abstract
Three red cyclometalated iridium(iii) complexes (4tfmpq)2Ir(dipdtc), (4tfmpq)2Ir(dpdtc) and (4tfmpq)2Ir(Czdtc) (4tfmpq = 4-(4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)quinazoline, dipdtc = N,N-diisopropyl dithiocarbamate, dpdtc = N,N-diphenyl dithiocarbamate, and Czdtc = N-carbazolyl dithiocarbamate) containing the unique four-membered Ir-S-C-S backbone ring were synthesized in five minutes at room temperature with good yields, and the Gibbs free energy calculation results indicate that all reactions are exothermic and thermodynamically favorable processes. The emission colors (λ peak = 641-611 nm), photoluminescence quantum efficiencies (Φ P = 58.3-93.0%) and bipolar properties can be effectively regulated by introducing different electron-donating substituents into the dithiocarbamate ancillary ligands. Employing these emitters, organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) with double emissive layers exhibit excellent performances with a maximum brightness over 60 000 cd m-2, a maximum current efficiency of 40.68 cd A-1, a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQEmax) of 30.54%, and an EQE of 26.79% at the practical luminance of 1000 cd m-2. These results demonstrate that Ir(iii) complexes with sulfur-containing ligands can be rapidly synthesized at room temperature, which is key to the production of metal luminescent materials for large-scale application in highly efficient OLEDs.
