Abstract
To address key concerns on solid-state pyrene-based luminescent materials, we propose a novel and efficient mechanical bond strategy. This strategy results in a transformation from ACQ to AIE effect and a remarkable enhancement of pyrene emission in the solid state. Moreover, an unusual purification of emission is also achieved. Through computational calculation and experimental characterisation, finally determined by X-ray diffraction analysis, we prove that the excellent emissions result from mechanical bond induced refinement of molecular arrangements, including reduced π-π stacking, well-ordered packing and enhanced structural stability. This work demonstrates the potential of mechanical bond in the field of organic luminescent molecules, providing a new avenue for developing high-performance organic luminescent materials.

Abstract
Nature owns the ability to construct structurally different polymers from the same monomers. While polymers can be classified as covalent polymers (CPs) and supramolecular polymers (SPs), it is still difficult to synthesize CPs and SPs using same monomers like nature do. Herein, M1 with two diazo salts on both the ends was designed. Additionally, hydroquinone was chosen to be M2 for the existence of two hydroxyl groups. When mixing at room temperature, M1 and M2 self-assembled to SPs via N…H hydrogen bonds. In another way, upon the exposure to ultraviolet irradiation when blending M1 with M2, CPs were fabricated in the presence of covalent bonds. The excellent thermal stability of CPs was determined by TGA and DSC, while the great corrosion resistance of covalent polymers was detected by acid or alkali immersion. In this way, constructing two kinds of polymers using the same monomers was successfully achieved. This shows tremendous potential in fields of polymer science, supramolecular chemistry, which would boom the development of polymers.

Abstract
To better understand the correlation between molecular structure and optical properties such as aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and mechanochromic luminescence (MCL) emission, two new pyrene-based derivatives with substitutions at the 4- and 5-positions (1HH) and at the 4-, 5-, 9-, and 10-positions (2HH) were designed and synthesized. Cyano groups were introduced at the periphery of the synthesized compounds (1HCN, 1OCN, 1BCN, 2HCN, 2OCN, and 2BCN) to investigate the influence of these groups on the emission properties of the pyrene derivatives both in solution and in the solid state. The fluorescence emission performance of these compounds in water/acetone mixtures was simultaneously studied, revealing outstanding aggregation-induced emission properties. The typical shift in emission maxima to higher values was attributed to J-aggregate formation in the aggregate state. Careful investigation of the crystal structures demonstrated abundant and intense intermolecular interactions, such as C-H…π and C-H…N hydrogen bonds, contributing to the remarkable mechanochromic luminescence performance of these compounds. The MCL properties of all the compounds were investigated using powder X-ray diffraction, and the remarkable mechanochromic properties were attributed to J-aggregate phenomena in the solid state. These results provide valuable insights into the structure-property relationship of organic MCL materials, guiding the design of efficient organic MCL materials.

Abstract
Although remarkable progresses are achieved in the design and development of the mono-shift in photoluminescence for mechanofluorochromic materials, it is still a severe challenge to explore the opposite mechanofluorochromic materials with both blue- and red-shifted photoluminescence. Herein, two unprecedented 4,5-bis(TPE)-1H-imidazole fused pyridine or quinoline-based fluorophores X-1 and X-2 were designed and synthesized, and X-1 and X-2, exhibit completely opposite mechanofluorochromic behavior. Under UV lamp, the color of pristine X-1 changed from blue to green with reversible redshifted 27 nm in fluorescence emission spectra after ground, while the color of pristine X-2 changed from red to yellow with reversible blue-shifted 74 nm after ground. The detailed characterizations (including PXRD, SEM and DSC) confirmed that this opposite mechanofluorochromism was attributed to the transformation of order-crystalline and amorphous states. The crystal structure analysis and theoretical calculation further explain that opposite mechanofluorochromic behavior take into account different π-π stacking mode by induced π-extended systems. In addition, these TPE-based fluorophores (X-1 and X-2) exhibited excellent bio-compatibility and fluorescence properties for bio-imaging, writable data storage and anti-counterfeiting materials.

Abstract
Extensive reports on the use of supramolecular polymer networks (SPNs) in self-healing materials, controlled release system and degradable products have led more researchers to tap their potential owing to the unique properties. Yet, the attendant efforts in the visualization through conventional luminescence methods during the formation of SPNs have been met with limited success. Herein, we designed a special type of SPNs prepared by PPMU polymer chains containing pyrene benzohydrazonate (PBHZ) molecules as AIEgens for the multicolor visualization with naked eyes. The complete detection of the formation process of the networks relied on the PBHZ molecules with aggregation-induced ratiometric emission (AIRE) effect, which enabled the fluorescence of the polymer networks transits from blue to cyan, and then to green with the increasing crosslinking degree derived from the hydrogen bonds between 2-ureido-4-pyrimidone (UPy) units of the polymer chains. Additionally, we certificated the stimuli-responsiveness of the obtained SPNs, and the fluorescence change, as well as observing the morphology transition. The AIEgen-enabled multicolor visualization of the formation of SPNs may provide better understanding of the details of the crosslinking interactions in the microstructural evolution, giving more inspiration for the multifunctional products based on SPNs.

Abstract
Molecular weight has an important bearing on the properties of supramolecular polymers. However, the intuitive differentiation of the molecular weight of supramolecular polymers remains challenging. Given this situation, establishing a reliable relationship between fluorescence properties and molecular weight may be a promising strategy. Herein, we prepared a supramolecular monomer M1 with aggregation-induced ratiometric emission characteristics. With the increasing M1 concentration (0.100-100 mM), the average degree of polymerization (DPDOSY ) rose from 1.00 to 293. Meanwhile, the color changed from dark blue to cyan, finally to yellow-green in the same concentration range. Hence, the intuitive relationship between DPDOSY and fluorescence colors was constructed, allowing the visual differentiation of molecular weight. Moreover, the fluorescence color could be regulated by introducing a competitive molecule to induce the depolymerization of supramolecular polymers.

Abstract
Counterfeiting and inverse engineering of security and confidential documents, such as banknotes, passports, national cards, certificates, and valuable products, has significantly been increased, which is a major challenge for governments, companies, and customers. From recent global reports published in 2017, the counterfeiting market was evaluated to be $107.26 billion in 2016 and forecasted to reach $206.57 billion by 2021 at a compound annual growth rate of 14.0%. Development of anticounterfeiting and authentication technologies with multilevel securities is a powerful solution to overcome this challenge. Stimuli-chromic (photochromic, hydrochromic, and thermochromic) and photoluminescent (fluorescent and phosphorescent) compounds are the most significant and applicable materials for development of complex anticounterfeiting inks with a high-security level and fast authentication. Highly efficient anticounterfeiting and authentication technologies have been developed to reach high security and efficiency. Applicable materials for anticounterfeiting applications are generally based on photochromic and photoluminescent compounds, for which hydrochromic and thermochromic materials have extensively been used in recent decades. A wide range of materials, such as organic and inorganic metal complexes, polymer nanoparticles, quantum dots, polymer dots, carbon dots, upconverting nanoparticles, and supramolecular structures, could display all of these phenomena depending on their physical and chemical characteristics. The polymeric anticounterfeiting inks have recently received significant attention because of their high stability for printing on confidential documents. In addition, the printing technologies including hand-writing, stamping, inkjet printing, screen printing, and anticounterfeiting labels are discussed for introduction of the most efficient methods for application of different anticounterfeiting inks. This review would help scientists to design and develop the most applicable encryption, authentication, and anticounterfeiting technologies with high security, fast detection, and potential applications in security marking and information encryption on various substrates.

Abstract
Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) materials have drawn great attention for applications as organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) and probes. The applications are, however, restricted by the complex syntheses and hydrophobic properties. Herein, a one-step synthesis of an AIE material based on imidazole hydrazone is assessed. Protonation of the imidazole-H leads to emission color change from yellow to green in the solid state. The emission color is recovered upon imidazole-H+ deprotonation. Moreover, the emission wavelength shifts from 532 to 572 nm by anion exchange. In addition, an enhanced emission (ΦF up to 22.6 %) was obtained with the Br- anion compared with NTf2 - , SbCl5 - , PF6 - , and OTf- anions. X-ray crystallography studies together with theoretical calculations show that the enhanced emission of hydrazone salts arises from strong hydrogen bonding between the hydrazone proton and the halide ion (Cl- or Br- ).

Abstract
A novel fluorescence probe pyrene based derivatives (1) with aggregation induced emission (AIE) properties was synthesized by an easy procedure. The probe 1 was characterized by UV-vis, Fluorescent, NMR, MS, SEM etc. It displayed high sensitivity and selectivity to Hg2+ compared with other metal ions in H2O/DMF solvent and the detection limit was 4.2 × 10-7 M. Upon addition of Hg2+, the 1 - Hg2+ compound was formed with the formation of 2:1. More importantly, the probe exhibited very low cytotoxicity and strong fluorescence emission in live cells. Abstract
In this contribution, we report a unique co-assembly composed of pyrene and spiropyran that were linked separately at the focal point of the same peptide-based dendron (Phe-Glu), in which the dendrons offer driving forces for the coaggregation. A series of co-assemblies with different weight ratios (Py-Phe-Glu/SP-Phe-Glu) were prepared and the morphology could be tuned. It is found that the resulting stable co-assembled organogel is double switchable triggered by light and heat. TEM revealed that, in the xerogel, Py-Phe-Glu formed rigid rod nanofibers with large diameters and acted as a rigid sketelon where the gracile interwoven fibrous structure of SP-Phe-Glu grew. More interestingly, the original powder of the co-assembled xerogel (1.0 mg/0.1 mg) not only displayed a sequential high-contrast tricolored switch from dark blue to bright cyan and to red under external force but also presented multistate accessible photochromic properties. Such mechanochromic and photochromic behaviors of the xerogel are mainly due to the transition of different excimers of pyrene and the force/photoinduced ring-opening reaction of spiropyran. It is rarely reported that self-assembled soft materials achieve mechanochromic and photochromic dual-responsive behaviors with a high-contrast multicolored switch. We believe the co-assembly strategy based on polypeptide dendrons can be extended to other systems for establishing novel intelligent fluorescent materials.
