Abstract
The main limitation for practical implementation of quantum dots-based sensors and biosensors is the possible contamination of sensing media with quantum dots (QDs) moved out from the sensor structure, being critical for living systems measurements. Numerous efforts have addressed the challenge of pre-synthesized QDs incorporation into porous matrix provide, on the one hand, proper fixation of quantum dots in its volume and preserving a free analyte transfer from the sensing media to them - on the other hand. Here, we propose an alternative insight into this problem. Instead of using preliminary synthesized particles for doping a matrix, we have in situ synthesized cadmium sulfide QDs in porous biopolymeric matrices, both in an aqueous solution and on a mica substrate. The proposed technique allows obtaining QDs in a matrix acting simultaneously as a ligand passivating surface defects and preventing QDs aggregation. The conjugates were used as a photoluminescence sensor for the metal ions and glutathione detection in an aqueous media. Different kinds of sensor responses have been found depending on the analyte nature. Zinc ions' presence initiates the intraband QDs emission increases due to the reduction of non-radiative processes. The presence of copper ions, in contrast, leads to a gradual photoluminescence decrease due to the formation of the non-luminescent copper-based alloy in the QDs structure. Finally, the presence of glutathione initiates a ligand exchange process followed by some QDs surface treatment enhancing defect-related photoluminescence. As a result, three different kinds of sensor responses for three analytes allow claiming development of a new selective QD-based sensor suitable for biomedical applications.

Abstract
Herein, we present a facile colloidal method to synthesize the high-quality AgGaS2 nanocrystals (NCs) within 2 min via exploiting the high-reactivity S precursor and then extend this synthetic strategy to the preparation of AgGaS2/ZnS core-shell NCs by a one-pot method without prior purification of AgGaS2 core. The as-synthesized samples were structurally characterized to confrim the formation of AgGaS2/ZnS core-shell NCs. The energy band gap of the AgGaS2/ZnS NCs can be effectively tunable from 2.98 to 2.83 eV by the control of their nonstoichiometry and further continuously decreases to 1.90 eV by the preparation of alloyed AgGaxIn1-xS2/ZnS NCs (1 ≤ x ≤ 0). Benefitting from the efficient band gap modulations, the photoluminescence (PL) colors of the AgGaS2-based NCs can cover almost the whole visible region from blue (460 nm) to red (671 nm). Our work demonstrates the one-pot synthesis of AgGaS2/ZnS core-shell NCs and their band gap engineering, which is of crucial in scalability toward industrial application and in tailoring optical characteristics of I-III-VI2 materials.

Compositional and morphological engineering of in-situ-grown Ag nanoparticles on Cu substrate for enhancing oxygen reduction reaction activity: A novel electrochemical redox tuning approach. Abstract
Silver nanoparticles (NPs) developed on a copper substrate, Ag NPs/Cu, are synthesized by a novel and facile galvanic replacement method performed in Ethaline deep eutectic solvent (DES). It reveals that the Ag NPs could be well dispersed on the Cu support via an in-situ electrochemical oxidation-reduction (ECO-ECR) activation process, which deliver significantly enhanced activity and stability for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in alkaline media. The in-situ redox tuning triggers a reversible phase transformation of the formed initially Ag NPs, Ag ↔ Ag2O, with surface reconstruction and gives rise to a strong metal-support interaction with tailored atomic/electronic structures, resulting in enhanced ORR activity. Impressively, the introduction of NiII ions can regulate the galvanic replacement kinetics by mediating the diffusion of AgI ions and subsequent growth of Ag on the Cu surface in Ethaline, leading to the formation of uniformly distributed Ag NPs. Coupled with redox activation, the optimal Ag-Ni1 NPs/Cu_ECO-ECR exhibits ORR activity similar to that of the commercial state-of-the-art Pt/C catalyst, and better long-term durability (95% activity retention after 30,000 s), cyclic stability performance, and anti-poisoning capacity for methanol (96% after 3300 s), suggesting it a promising ORR electrocatalyst for practical application.

Abstract
Water-soluble AgInZnS quantum dots (AIZS QDs) were synthesized with glutathione (GSH) as a stabilizer by a facile one-step method based on a hydrothermal reaction between the nitrate salts of the corresponding metals and sodium sulfide as a sulfide precursor at 110 °C. The optimal reaction conditions (temperature, time, pH, and the molar ratios of the precursors) were studied. According to the data from TEM, XPS, and XRD, AIZS QDs were characterized with excellent optical properties. The results showed that the aqueous-dispersible AIZS QDs were quasi-spherical and their average diameter was 3.51 nm. Furthermore, the cytotoxicity of AIZS QDs was investigated by microcalorimetry and microscopy techniques (confocal microscopy and TEM). The data revealed that AIZS QDs exhibited low toxicity, biocompatibility, and good water stability, due to which they could be used as a fluorescent probe for bioimaging and labeling. In addition, AIZS QDs could be used as a sensor to detect Cu2+ because the fluorescence of AIZS QDs was quenched by Cu2+. Water-soluble AgInZnS quantum dots were synthesized with glutathione as a stabilizer by a facile one-step method based on a hydrothermal reaction at 110 °C. It exhibited excellent optical properties, which can be used as sensor to detect Cu2+.![]()

Abstract
This review summaries the optical properties, recent progress in synthesis, and a range of applications of luminescent Cu-based ternary or quaternary quantum dots (QDs). We first present the unique optical properties of the Cu-based multicomponent QDs, regarding their emission mechanism, high photoluminescent quantum yields (PLQYs), size-dependent bandgap, composition-dependent bandgap, broad emission range, large Stokes’ shift, and long photoluminescent (PL) lifetimes. Huge progress has taken place in this area over the past years, via detailed experimenting and modelling, giving a much more complete understanding of these nanomaterials and enabling the means to control and therefore take full advantage of their important properties. We then fully explore the techniques to prepare the various types of Cu-based ternary or quaternary QDs (including anisotropic nanocrystals (NCs), polytypic NCs, and spherical, nanorod and tetrapod core/shell heterostructures) are introduced in subsequent sections. To date, various strategies have been employed to understand and control the QDs distinct and new morphologies, with the recent development of Cu-based nanorod and tetrapod structure synthesis highlighted. Next, we summarize a series of applications of these luminescent Cu-based anisotropic and core/shell heterostructures, covering luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs), bioimaging and light emitting diodes (LEDs). Finally, we provide perspectives on the overall current status, challenges, and future directions in this field. The confluence of advances in the synthesis, properties, and applications of these Cu-based QDs presents an important opportunity to a wide-range of fields and this piece gives the reader the knowledge to grasp these exciting developments.
