Abstract
Alternating sequencing of styrene-maleimide/maleic anhydride (S-MI/MA) in the copolymer chain is known for a long time. But since early 2000, this class of copolymers has been extensively studied using various living/controlled polymerization techniques to design S-MI/MA alternating copolymers with tunable molecular weight, narrow dispersity (Ð), and precise chain-end functionality. The widespread diverse applications of this polymeric backbone are due to its ease of synthesis, cheap starting materials, high precision in alternating sequencing, and facile post-polymerization functionalization with simple organic reactions. Recently, S-MI/MA alternating copolymers have been rediscovered as novel polymers with unprecedented emissive behavior. It outperforms the traditional fluorophores with no aggregation caused quenching (ACQ), aqueous solubility, and greater cell viability. Herein, the origin of alternating sequence, synthesis, and recent (2010-Present) developments in applications of these polymers in different fields are elaborately discussed, including the advantages of the unconventional luminogenic property. This review article also highlights the future research directions of the versatile S-MI/MA copolymers.

Abstract
Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm)-based thermally responsive micelles are of great importance as smart materials for a number of applications such as drug delivery and biosensing, owing to their tunable lower critical solution temperature (LCST). Their design and synthesis in the nanoscale size range have been widely studied, and research interest in their structural and physic-chemical properties is continually growing. In this Viewpoint, representative research on the construction of PNIPAAm-based thermally responsive micelles as well as their applications are highlighted and discussed, which would serve as a good start for newcomers in this field and a positive guide for future research.

Abstract
Block copolymers with unique architectures and those that can self-assemble into supramolecular structures are used in medicine as biomaterial scaffolds and delivery vehicles for cells, therapeutics, and imaging agents. To date, much of the work relies on controlling polymer behavior by varying the monomer side chains to add functionality and tune hydrophobicity. Although varying the side chains is an efficient strategy to control polymer behavior, changing the polymer backbone can also be a powerful approach to modulate polymer self-assembly, rigidity, reactivity, and biodegradability for biomedical applications. There are many developments in the syntheses of polymers with segmented backbones, but these developments are not widely adopted as strategies to address the unique constraints and requirements of polymers for biomedical applications. This review highlights dual polymerization strategies for the synthesis of backbone-segmented block copolymers to facilitate their adoption for biomedical applications.

Abstract
The construction of multicomponent hybrid nanomaterials with well-controlled architecture, especially bearing an ordered homogeneity and distribution of the subunits with tunable functions, is a key challenge in chemistry and material science. Herein, we reported a versatile and novel strategy to fabricate core-satellite multicomponent nanostructures with tunable interparticle distances and catalysis properties by the combination of surface-initiated reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (SI-RAFT) polymerization and self-assembly. The arrangement and interparticle distance of gold satellites could be precisely tuned by the SI-RAFT polymerization process and the feeding ratio of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and the core nanoparticle. It is worth to note that multilayered core-satellite nanostructures have been fabricated by a high-feeding ratio of AuNPs and magnetite NP (MNP)@SiO2-PNIPAm. Notably, the core-satellite MNP@SiO2-PNIPAm-Au nanoparticles exhibited excellent thermoresponsive behaviors with the change of temperature. Furthermore, the catalytic efficiency of MNP@SiO2-PNIPAm-Au nanoparticles via the reduction of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol can be well modulated by the nanoparticle size, temperature, and polymer feed ratio. This strategy for precise construction of core-satellite nanostructures would open a new pathway to construct multicomponent functional nanostructures.

Abstract
A heterografted block copolymer with doubly thermoresponsive grafts is designed to address the challenge in hierarchical self-assembly. Upon heating, solvent isotope dependent morphology transitions from spheres to nanobowls, vesicles, disks, nanosheets, nanoribbons and hyperbranched micelles can be achieved. The strategy provides a general platform to prepare diverse thermoreversible nano-objects.
