Abstract
A palladium(II)-catalyzed norbornene-mediated remote selective meta-C-H silylation of primary benzamides was developed for the synthesis of arylsilanes. Such a conversion provides access to a range of arylsilanes with exclusive selectivity using norbornene (NBE) as the meta-C-H activator. The amide directing group can be detached simultaneously through C-C bond cleavage or undergo a dehydration reaction pathway to form nitriles.

Abstract
The direct functionalization of methylene C(sp3)-H bonds is one of the greatest challenges in transition metal-catalyzed C-H activation. Although Pd(0)-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization reactions of methylene C(sp3)-H bonds have been reported, intermolecular functionalization remains to be discovered. Herein, we report the first example of a Pd(0)-catalyzed intermolecular methylene C(sp3)-H functionalization reaction. By use of a N-heterocyclic carbene ligand, the methylene C(sp3)-H bonds of 1-(benzyloxy)-2-iodobenzenes are activated and disilylated with hexamethyldisilane, affording disilylated products.

Abstract
ConspectusThis Account summarizes recent developments in metal-mediated coupling reactions between hydrosilanes and aryl iodides in the presence of Pd(P(t-Bu)3)2 and base. Alkylated organosilanes are obtained when Pt(P(t-Bu)3)2 and a base are employed in reactions between hydrosilanes and aliphatic iodides. These transformations show unusual reactivity compared to the typical behavior of hydrosilanes toward organoiodides in the presence of PdCl2 or PtCl2, and they proceed in high yields under mild conditions. In addition, the reaction demonstrates (1) high functional group tolerances, (2) stepwise introduction of substituents onto silicon atoms from secondary silanes, and (3) transformation without cleavage of weak Si-Si σ bonds in the molecules. This transformation can serve as a powerful tool for the synthesis of functional organosilicon compounds. The advantage is the flexibility in the molecular structure due to the large size compared to carbon. These compounds have relatively sparse packing in the crystalline state, unlike π-conjugated molecules, which induce dense π-π interactions. Consequently, they have significantly different physical properties in solution and in the solid state. Among them, aromatic disilanes and oligosilanes are important substance groups, because the conjugated chain within these molecules expands due to σ-π interaction between Si-Si σ bond and π orbital of aromatic ring. σ-π Conjugation is most efficient when the dihedral angle between the aromatic ring and the Si-Si bond is 90°, resulting in the overlap of σ orbital and π orbital. The conformational structure, packing, and physical properties of these compounds can change in tandem in response to external stimuli through a crystal phase transition. The interlocking changes in structure and physical properties are reversible, easily returning to their original state with different external stimulus. This account covers several important aspects, including solid-state emission with high fluorescence intensity, aggregation-induced emission (AIE) in water-THF system, mechanochromic fluorescence, organic light emitting diode (OLED), second harmonic generation (SHG) and thermosalient phenomena. This reaction can synthesize optically active tertiary and quaternary silanes by the enantioselective arylation of secondary silanes with aryl iodides using a palladium catalyst modified with a TADDOL-derived amide phosphoric acid ester as a chiral ligand. These optically active compounds can be used as useful circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) materials due to their strong luminescence intensity (Φ) and luminescence dissymmetry factor (glum) attributed to the chiral silicon atom. The efficient synthesis of sila-pharmaceuticals using this method as a key step is also described. The technique enables the design and synthesis of various silicon-containing bioactive substances and medical chemicals. Through the synthesis of organosilane compounds using this method, it is anticipated that the development of functional organic silanes will accelerate their practical applications in a wide range of fields.

Abstract
An efficient palladium-catalyzed intermolecular selective C-H silylation of boronic acids is described. The combination of palladium catalyst with copper oxidant enables ortho-selective C-H silylation by employing hexamethyldisilane as the trimethylsilyl source, which relies on the control of NBE derivatives as a switch, thus providing straightforward access to divergent organosilicon compounds.

Abstract
C,C-Palladacycles are an important class of organometallic compounds in which palladium is σ-bonded to two carbon atoms. They have three notable features that make them attractive in organic synthesis and organometallic chemistry: (1) C,C-Palladacycles are reactive intermediates that can be accessed via Pd(0)-catalyzed C-H activation of organic halides. Compared to Pd(II)-catalyzed heteroatom-directed C-H activation, C-H activation catalyzed by Pd(0) has some distinct advantages. In this type of catalytic reaction, the halo groups of readily available organic halides act as traceless directing groups. Furthermore, this strategy avoids the use of stoichiometric external oxidants. (2) C,C-Palladacycles have differentiated reactivities from common open-chain Pd(II) species. In particular, C,C-palladacycles have high reactivity toward electrophiles including alkyl halides. This unique reactivity can be utilized to develop novel reactions. (3) C,C-Palladacycles have two C-Pd bonds, providing a unique platform for developing novel reactions.Although a number of reactions of C,C-palladacycles had been developed prior to our work, the scope was largely limited to intramolecular cyclization reactions. Although Catellani reactions are intermolecular reactions of C,C-palladacycles, only one of the C-Pd bonds is functionalized. Our laboratory has sought to develop intermolecular difunctionalization reactions of C,C-palladacycles that exploit their unique reactivity and open new possibilities in organic synthesis. Aiming to develop synthetically useful reactions, we primarily focus on ring-forming reactions. In this Account, we summarize our laboratory's efforts to exploit intermolecular difunctionalization reactions of C,C-palladacycles that are obtained through Pd(0)-catalyzed C-H activation. We have developed a wide array of new reactions that represent facile and efficient methods for the synthesis of cyclic organic compounds, including functional materials and drug molecules. A range of C,C-palladacycles have been studied, including C(aryl),C(aryl)-palladacycles from 2-halobiaryls, C(aryl),C(alkyl)-palladacycles from ortho-iodo-tert-butylbenzenes or ortho-iodoanisole derivatives, and those obtained by cascade reactions. C,C-Palladacycles have been found to react with a variety of oxidants to furnish Pd(IV) intermediates, such as alkyl halides, aryl halides, diazo compounds, and N,N-di-tert-butyldiaziridinone, ultimately affording various cyclic structures, including 5-10-membered rings, carbo- and azacycles, spirocycles, and fused rings. Furthermore, novel reactivity of C,C-palladacycles has been discovered. For example, we found that C,C-palladacycles have unusually high reactivity toward disilanes, which can be leveraged to disilylate a variety of C,C-palladacycles with very high efficiency. These results should provide inspiration to develop other C-Si bond-forming reactions in the future. We hope that this Account will stimulate further research into the rich chemistry of C,C-palladacycles, in particular reactions that find practical applications in the synthesis of bioactive and functional molecules and those that advance the state of the art in C-H functionalization.

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed remote C-H silylation reaction has been developed through vinylic to aryl 1,4-palladium migration. By using alkyne-tethered aryl iodides as the starting materials and hexamethyldisilane as the silylating reagent, the reaction involves cascade intramolecular carbopalladation, 1,4-palladium migration, and silylation with hexamethyldisilane, and leads to the formation of exocyclic alkene-containing 5-silylisoquinolines as the final products.

Abstract
Herein, a readily available disilane Me3SiSiMe2(OnBu) has been developed for the synthesis of diverse silacycles via Brook- and retro-Brook-type rearrangement. This protocol enables the incorporation of a silylene into different starting materials, including acrylamides, alkene-tethered 2-(2-iodophenyl)-1H-indoles, and 2-iodobiaryls, via the cleavage of Si–Si, Si–C, and Si–O bonds, leading to the formation of spirobenzosiloles, fused benzosiloles, and π-conjugated dibenzosiloles in moderate to good yields. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicate that this transformation is realized by successive palladium-catalyzed bis-silylation and Brook- and retro-Brook-type rearrangement of silane-tethered silanols. A readily available disilane Me3SiSiMe2(OnBu) as a silylene source has been developed for the synthesis of diverse silacycles via Brook- and retro-Brook-type rearrangement.![]()

Abstract
Density functional theory (DFT) calculation has been used to reveal the mechanism of the Pd-catalyzed disilylation reaction of aryl halides. The DFT calculations indicate that the reaction starts with the oxidative addition of the C-I bond to the Pd(0) catalyst. Concerted metalation-deprotonation (CMD) can then generate a five-membered palladacycle. Insertion of Pd(ii) into the Si-Si bond in disilane followed by two sequential steps of reductive eliminations yields the disilylation product and regenerates the Pd(0) catalyst. According to the NPA charge analysis along the reaction coordinates, the formal oxidative addition of the Si-Si bond to palladium could be considered as the insertion of palladium into the Si-Si bond. However, the conventional oxidative addition of the C-I bond to palladium is exactly an oxidation process with the electron transfer from the palladium atom to the C-I bond. Therefore, electron rich Pd(0) is beneficial for the oxidation process, and Pd(ii) prone to acquire electrons is beneficial for the insertion process.

Abstract
In this work, an efficient palladium catalyzed annulation of 2-iodobiphenyl with a non-terminal alkene was developed. The key factor in this transformation was the formation of a highly reactive oxo-palladacycle intermediate, which was enabled by a neighboring hydroxyl group, and remarkably restrained the β-H elimination process. Mechanistically, control experiments demonstrated that the hydroxyl group may act as an anionic ligand, which was irreplaceable in this reaction. This transformation presented good reactivity and selectivity, and no simple Heck coupling products were detected for all of the explored substrates.

Abstract
A novel palladium-catalyzed interannular selective C-H silylation of 1,1'-biaryl-2-acetamides is described. The combination of palladium catalyst with copper oxidant enables meta- or ortho-selective C-H silylation by employing hexamethyldisilane as a trimethylsilyl source, which relies on the control of NBE derivatives as a switch, thus providing straightforward access to divergent silicon-containing 1,1'-biaryl-2-acetamides.
