Abstract
AbstractThe Diels–Alder reaction has long been established as an extremely useful procedure in the toolbox of natural product chemists. It tolerates a wide spectrum of building blocks of different complexity and degrees of derivatization, and enables the formation of six-membered rings with well-defined stereochemistry. In recent years, many total syntheses of natural products have been reported that rely, at some point, on the use of a [4+2]-cycloaddition step. Among classic approaches, several modifications of the Diels–Alder reaction, such as hetero-Diels–Alder reactions, dehydro-Diels–Alder reactions and domino-Diels–Alder reactions, have been employed to extend the scope of this process in the synthesis of natural products. Our short review covers applications of the Diels–Alder reaction in natural product syntheses between 2017 and 2020, as well as selected methodologies which are inspired by, or that can be used to access natural products.1 Introduction2 Syntheses from 20173 Syntheses from 20184 Syntheses from 20195 Syntheses from 20206 Conclusion

Abstract
Pyrone moieties are present in natural products and can be synthesized by a diverse range of synthetic methods, resulting in the formation of various derivatives through chemical modifications. Many pyrone-based derivatives are commercially available and are biocompatible. They are building blocks of various intermediates in organic synthesis. They possess remarkable biological properties including antimicrobial, antiviral, cytotoxic, and antitumor activity. These characteristics have made them valuable for the development of drugs. We have summarized recent developments in the synthesis of 2-pyrone and its derivatives and their potential applications. With regard to synthetic approaches, the focus has been on metal-free and transition metal-catalyzed reactions.

Abstract
A photo-induced imidation process of carboxylic acids is described. Numerous carboxylic acids could convert to β-sulfonyl imides in the presence of N-sulfonyl ynamides under visible light irradiation. Control experiments and mechanistic studies demonstrate that this imidation process involves a hydroacyloxylation/radical rearrangement cascade. This protocol represents a direct imidation method from carboxylic acids under mild conditions, with broad scope and high atom-economy.

Abstract
The 2-pyrone motif occurs frequently in bioactive natural products and is appreciated as synthetic intermediates. However, only few methods allow for diversifying functional group modifications on this relevant heterocycle. The distinct properties of 1-alkynyl triazenes promote a smooth addition of propiolic acids across the triple bond. Addition of catalytic amounts of silver salt induces cyclization to 2-pyrones. Depending on the reaction temperature, either 6-triazenyl or 5-triazenyl 2-pyrones are selectively formed. The triazenyl unit is subsequently replaced by a variety of valuable groups in a one-pot process yielding for instance 2-fluoro pyrones. The substitution occurs with an intriguing 1,5-carbonyl transposition. Moreover, the triazenyl group serves as traceless activating group for subsequent Diels-Alder cycloadditions and as a constituting unit for rare fused aminopyrazole pyrone heterocycles.

Abstract
A Diels-Alder reaction-based strategy for the synthesis of indoles and related heterocycles is reported. An intramolecular cycloaddition of alkyne-tethered 3-aminopyrones gives 4-substituted indolines in good yield and with complete regioselectivity. Additional substitution is readily tolerated in the transformation, allowing synthesis of complex and non-canonical substitution patterns. Oxidative conditions give the corresponding indoles. The strategy also allows the synthesis of carbazoles. The method was showcased in a formal synthesis of lysergic acid.

Abstract
A novel multicomponent Ugi-type reaction for the synthesis of indole carboxamide amino amides from aldehydes, amines, isocyanides, and indole- N-carboxylic acids, which were simply prepared from indoles and CO2, is described. This method provides an expeditious and practical access to indole tethered peptide units, along with the achievement of remarkable structural diversity and brevity. Gram-scale reaction was conducted to demonstrate the scalability, and the products could be transformed to new indole derivatives.
